Tofurei in Norwich

I go here regularly. It has never failed me: excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent people. We have lived near the city almost 4 years now and I don’t think I have ever gone longer than two months without visiting. I wanted to write this review to thank this small cafe. Thank you for providing me with all the food I can eat, will all the advice on how to cook the nut roast at Christmas and for looking and smelling nostalgia to me- I don’t know what it is, but walking into the place, especially autumn/Christmas time just makes me feel at home. Thank you Tofurei, I will deeply miss you. Oh and thank you for introducing me to spiced chai syrup in my oat iced latte- I will NEVER go back to regular lattes again. Like Christmas in a summer drink! (Ps- picture was from a while ago, only one I could find but perfectly encapsulates the beauty of this place)

Had this place on a list of restaurants and cafes that I want to try out, but when I heard that Tofurei is closing down, I had to make sure I paid a visit while I had the chance - and I'm very glad I did! We came here for lunch recently. The staff were very friendly and service was quick. All the food and desserts that we ordered tasted fantastic, and at a reasonable price. There's a good amount of seating upstairs as well. All in all, we had a great experience here. It's a shame that it's closing down as I'd have loved to have come again. But glad I was able to visit while it's still here!

I like the foods here. Matcha is always my fav, after coffee.

Really great place I’ve been meaning to go to for a while. Really great selection of food, I went for a takeaway sandwich and the quality was great. I was surprised at how soft the bread was. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Gorgeous place with the friendliest staff and most delicious choc-banana and vanilla mocha cakes I’ve ever had ! The tofu makes it so light and creamy and the flavours are intense and vibrant. Incredible delicious - 5 stars !

One of my favourite cafes in Norwich, the coffee is so nice, and there are lots of really unusual options like mushroom matcha and the most amount of syrups I've seen in any cafe. I've tried quite a few of their take out food options and I can tell every one is homemade with really quality ingredients. The service is amazing, the baristas are so friendly and are always happy to help.

There's a lovely choice of food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly. The price is very reasonable.

We had lunch here - smoked tofu & avocado sandwich made with focaccia , baked tofu, pesto & tomato on focaccia & a selection of cakes including a Kit Kat brownie and carrot cake. Yummy! Really filling, delicious sandwiches and an excellent selection of cakes. All vegan, which is the reason we visited. On the pricey side but very nice food.

It's delicious, but I don't understand why I ordered a bowl-shaped thing. There were strawberries and raspberries in the picture. What I got was apple and banana. It felt like the picture and text didn't match. I should have explained it in advance.

Such an awesome and quirky place. Had the McBluffin' and 100% recommend, super delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more!

I couldn't love this place more

Having seen the Hairy Bikers episode that featured this business we decided to give it a try. Now, just to be clear, we're not vegan or vegetarian and love a good steak. We started with the Cumberland "sausage" roll, delicious and the flavours were better than many meat versions. We took home a slice of chocolate cake that was decorated with raspberries and pistachios as well as a slice of chocolate cheesecake decorated with a fresh cherry. I can honestly say that they were probably the best cakes that we have tasted, really rich and delicious. We will definitely be back.

Hot food to take away cakes. Tofurei in all of it's years opened has never failed to deliver. Whenever I am in Norwich I make sure I visit tofurei, whether it's for an espresso (where their coffee rivals the plethora of local providers who do nothing but!) And a cake, or something more savoury and filling, the food is always, always good and very reasonably priced. Stews to burgers to flapjacks to Jaffa cakes- they do a limited number of items as the seasons change but they do them perfectly and with enough variety that you can try something new each visit and never be disappointed. I have the privileged position to get sent on training around Europe for my job every few months and I must say that tofurei are the best cafe and small restaurant I've been to - highly recommended to vegans and non vegans alike.

I only popped in for a coffee and was very happy with the oatmilk coffee with a squirt of caramel I ended up with.

First time going here, had the mint chocolate cake, and it was delicious! Really lovely place to go!

What an absolute gem! Beautifully decorated, had a spiritual feel to it. Food was amazing, the milkshake was heaven. If we ever visit Norwich again this is a must visit again. FABULOUS!

Fantastic cafe - we had lunch which was great, and then stocked up on cakes, pasties and tofu which were all delicious. Staff are very friendly too. A real treat!

Fantastic choice of savoury and sweet vegan produce, as featured on The Hairy Bikers program. This restaurant has moved tow minuets away to much bigger premises in St Gregory’s Alley , just down the side of the church. Also caters for gluten free. Freshest produce, using soya beans grown only 11 miles away. Definitely worth a visit!

Looking to grab some takeaway lunch as I had heard about this place a lot, though I went a bit late in the day and could only grab the tofu-masala pasty, which was pretty good when heated up the next day, but not something I would pick again. However I would recommend trying out their own house made tofu, I bought some of the maple tofu and that is absolutely delicious when grilled! I had some in a sandwich with tomatoes and vegan mayo and it was amazing! If I came back (unfortunately am not local), I would love to try out their sandwiches, but if you get there too late, do make sure to take some tofu back with you!

A true gem! We visited Norwich for a couple of days and went to Tofurei a few times because it was so good. Food is the nicest tofu I've ever eaten made into so many delicious things we tried: ramen (pictured), sushi bowl (pictured), pesto orzo bowl, a teriyaki wrap, a chicken salad style sandwich (pictured), a sausage roll, their McBluffin (pictured) and a lovely vegan cheese pasty. They make their own tofu which is blooming impressive! WONDERFUL coffee and tasty smoothies. Gorgeous building with loads of seating. Modern lights, rustic wooden features, plants and pigeons (not live - art) throughout. Lovely place to sit, and have some food. We saw all sorts of people come in, be welcome and enjoy what they had ordered. The staff are lovely, so friendly, happy to help and are clearly passionate about where they work. Service was very quick even when it was busy at weekend lunchtime. Last and not least, they sell some fantastic shirts and a tote bag. The designs are very unique and keeping with the pigeon theme, it was a struggle to decide which ones to take home. I'd strongly recommend visiting or ordering from them, I don't think you will be disappointed. I can't think of a bad thing to say, other than I'm sad I didn't buy and of their cakes/buns/etc. because they looked brilliant. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Walked past this place by accident and so glad we did! Had a lovely lunch here: sushi bowl, orzo bowl and a pasty were shared and enjoyed by all. I think this is genuinely the best tofu I have ever eaten, my non-vegan partner commented how much he had enjoyed it too so we will definitely be ordering some from the website once we get home from our holiday.

So disappointed with this vegan shop since they moved from Pottergate. When I went today they were closed - the opening hours on the door says Tuesdays - Wild card - whats that all about then? either they are open or they are not and customers need to know. The past few times they have not had the lovely sage and onion sausage rolls I used to enjoy and I still haven't been able to try the new jaffa cake pie I understand they have had. The food is excellent when you can get it but its not cheap.

Visited here for lunch with a new friend as I had heard good things about this venue. Was easily able to book a table through Facebook messenger. We were spoilt for choice with the various delicious looking vegan options available. We both had a tofu rice dish that was really good and tasty. Really loved all the animal art on the walls, especially of the pigeons. The food, atmosphere and staff were all wonderful and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to this lovely little Norwich gem.

Norwich has several eateries catering for Vegan diets and so we were spoilt for choice during our stay, however the food at Tofurei stood out for us when we stopped by for lunch. The tofu sushi was particularly good and we also really enjoyed the sweet and sour lunch on offer, unfortunately there were a couple of items on the menu that were unavailable and we did feel for the delightful young lady from Leeds, who was working her socks off as she appeared to be alone during our visit and was constantly running up and down the stairs trying to keep up. I would highly recommend this quirky, friendly and relaxed little cafe, which is situated right in the thick of the trendy lanes area of the city

We called in Tofurei a couple of days ago with our friends three dogs. We asked if it was ok. They didn’t even bat an eyelid - Sure, come in, would you like some water and some biscuits for the dogs etc?? Excellent!! And the cakes and coffee matched too! Lovely place, lovely staff, lovely attitude. We will be back

This cafe is very central and well located for the city centre and cathedral. There are two small tables outside. Upstairs is a large and airy seating area with lots of lovely house plants. The mural of birds, house plants, and wooden furniture give it a really nice atmosphere. There is no intrusive background music so its easy to chat to friends. The tables are well spaced out. The food focuses on tofu and on our visit included sandwiches and a rice salad bowl. Service was all prompt and friendly.

Fab little cafe, delicious cakes that you would never know are all Vegan. Had the tofu sushi bowl. Very scrumptious tasting. Everyone who works there is very friendly. Happy to go back again and again

I came here twice during an overnight stay to Norwich primarily because the cake is so good. It is quite rare to find a solely vegan cafe so after previously finding it on Google, we made a beeline for it when we got to Norwich. The golden Oreo cake was as near to perfection as I have found and the biscoff brownie I had today was pretty damn good too. The staff member we spoke to was helpful and charming and the actual cafe was very well looked after. This place is a gem. Can’t wait to come again.

Me and my partner regularly visit Tofueri and will continue to! The food is always delicious. My personal favourite is the chick'n, bac'n and sweetcorn sandich, and the chocolate fudge cake. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. Sometimes we sit in, and the atmosphere is warm and the surroundings are tastefully decorated with lots of plants! Otherwise, we take out and eat at home which is about a 15-20 minute walk - the food is always well packaged so isn't damaged on route. Moreover, the food is brilliant value for money. Highly recommend - vegan or not - sweet or savoury!

Tofurei has a wonderful range of vegan drinks and food - the staff are helpful and charming and the Black Forest gateau hot chocolate is a tour de force!

Just started working in Norwich and found this gem in the crown of this fine Norfolk city Flavours, taste and quality I was so impressed I had the take away chicken-less sandwich and a amazing custard / raspberry cake Both were outstanding Will return again and again and again

Ate some vegan quiche and a bulgur wheat salad while sat next to possibly the greenest windowsill in Norwich. Enjoyed the 90s/2000s alt rock mix on the stereo as well. Great place.

Have been several times over the last couple of years and the experience is always excellent. The food is always great, full of flavour and diverse options.The cakes are also fantastic. Great customer service as well. Would recommend to anyone, vegan or otherwise, I've been here with family who eat meat and they also love it! Great local business overall and I'm sure I will come again in the future

Nipped in for a coffee and a snack. Excellent tasty tofu based pastries and coffee with Oat milk and helpful friendly staff in a cool part of Norwich. Sat upstairs and looked out to the shade of a beautiful walnut tree in the churchyard opposite....

This is my first visit since they relocated and as always I am so impressed with their range and helpfulness! Great customer service and staff very welcoming. The food is delicious and their coffee is the best! I usually take away but I had to eat in and enjoy all of the beautiful plants upstairs. The place looks great. Can't wait to come back, it may even become my regular coffee shop on the way to work.

Excellent little deli / cafe. Tofu leak and mushroom pasty was best tasting pasty I’ve had in years. Rocky road was delicious and coffee was excellent. Very impressed.

This is a dedicated vegan cafe with home made tofu and lovely snacks. Seating space is currently limited, but staff are very helpful and friendly. Two of the three of us are not vegan but we enjoyed it very much. We'll worth a visit

Had the tastiest pasty on their meal deal which is really reasonably priced! They make all their own tofu from locally grown soya which is amazing.

I had the curry sausage roll and cheese cake and my husband had the pasty. ALL VEGAN of course. It was wonderful. We even took some of the tofu home for breakfast.I would recommend this place to everyone including those interested in reducing their intake...

Friendly staff and good value, delicious food. I had the vegan curry sausage roll, lentil crisps, chocolate bar and a lemonade (meal deal) for £6 (the eat-in price, it's a bit less to take away) which was just what I needed.

Nice to see a snack cafe that caters solely for vegans on this popular street in Norwich. Had a lovely lime lemonade drink and ploughman’s sandwich.

Had one of the best-ever Mr Whippy-style ice creams here - so good-looking that it prompted a total stranger to ask me where I'd got it. So was more than happy to direct her to Tofurei! NB-it's a shop, not a restaurant.

Not tried Vegan grub before, but a co worker suggested it after I took the mickey out of them, so I thought I'd give it a go. I had no idea what to order so the wonderful staff helped me out. Went with meal deal, sausage roll, drink, bag of not crisps crisps, and a doughnut. Now as a big buff manly meat eater man (see; fat and balding chap in a dirty T shirt) I didn't expect much, but its good. Its damn good. Its bloody loverly stuff. Sausage roll was good, doughnut was fantastic. It was all just spot on. And despite me being a massive berk, the staff treated me kindly and helped me out. Top stuff, will visit again next time I'm in Norwich just for a doughnut.

Such a lovely place. Friendly staff. Yesterday I had the breakfast bagel which was very tasty. They make fantastic cakes ( biscoff rocky road is divine) but the various one's I've tried are yummy. They make fabulous coffee too ( oat milk latte is a personal favourite). So glad this place is in Norwich. Thanks guys!

Very nice vegan cafe and deli in Pottergate. Nice selection of sandwiches cakes sausage rolls and pies. Deli items to take home with you. All food can be eaten in or take away. Inside and outside seating area. Very friendly staff.

One of the finest vegan experiences you could ask for. The sweetest staff and the MOST scrummy cakes/pastires/savouries. Their tofu meat-a likes are flavoursome and a pleasure to eat at any occasion. They also sell a wide range of vegan snacks. During the summer their soft serve ice cream tubs are the highlight of being in the city.

Comida realmente sabrosa y todo vegano. Tienda muy pequeña, por lo que es posible que no consigas un asiento, pero puedes llevarte todo y muchos lugares agradables para sentarte cerca.El único inconveniente es que no pueden ofrecer comida caliente, entiendo por qué debido a su tamaño, pero algunos de los artículos estarían mejor calientes.Por lo demás, aunque la comida sigue siendo muy sabrosa y la gente allí es muy agradable, así que lo recomiendo encarecidamente.
