It's biggest strength is probably it's biggest weakness. We visited during a VERY busy time during an ale trail and it was rammed. It prides itself on being a microbrewery, which counted against it during my visit as they were having to turn people away, and when we were able to get a seat the mardle bit (general chat) was lost as there were so many raised voices and we could hardly hear one another. The 2 servers on duty were polite and efficient and there was a good variety of drinks for such a small location. I imagine that in less busy times it would be a great little pub to visit and I certainly wouldn't rule out popping in again.

Another terrific evening at the Malt and Mardle. This time it was a brewery evening presented by Ampersand brewery. There was a great atmosphere and great beers on offer. We tried 5 different brews, each one accompanied by a great description from the head brewer at Ampersand. Really enjoyed the evening and the beer. The experience is helped by the intimate nature of the setting and will definitely look out for other presentations!

Cosy and welcoming little bar with lovely decor 💖 The owners & staff have always been super friendly. I was pleased to see they also have some low-alcohol beers and vegan sausage rolls (which I'll have to try next time) on offer. Bonus points for having a small handful of boardgames available for visitors.

Great little micro pub serving a mixture of cask and keg ales. A lot has been cleverly shoe hormed into a small area. We visited on a cold winter's day but the warm atmosphere and comfortable decor made it easy to settle for more than one drink. The intimacy made it difficult not to talk to others.

This is an outstanding pub. I have now visited over sixty pubs on the Norwich City of Ale trails and there are none obviously better. On my return visit last week, the Enigma Hoppy Pale was superb and my companion and I were delighted to find a space in a nook in which to sit. The pub is tiny inside, but the space is well planned.

I'm a regular visitor to Norwich, I love micro pubs because most sell bag in box cider as it lasts much longer than cask ale. M&M is comfy and cute but I was disappointed that all three ciders were Lilley's. Usually diluted and sweetened to within an inch of its life, it might go down a treat at a teenagers party, but it's not for most seasoned cider drinkers. Norfolk has some great cideries; Downham, East Norfolk, Norfolk Cider Co, Norfolk Raider, Village Green, Whin Hill. No need to sell Somerset sugar water.

We went along to the Duration Brewery presentation evening last July so apologies for the late inclusion of this review. The pub was serving an excellent range of beers along with the samples brought along by the brewery owner. The pub is a special place that generates a great atmosphere mainly because of the intimate size of the bar. It was full of real enthusiasts so the evening was a real treat. It seems obvious that the owners of the pub care about what they are doing and have gone all out to provide a terrific experience for beer drinkers. The Duration beers themselves were amazing..so much better than I expected being a more traditionalist as far as beer is concerned. I hope the owners have as much success with their new venture in Aylsham!

Cracking little micro on the NR3 Beer Mile in Norwich. Fills up quickly, so get there early otherwise you might not get a seat. The beers are an amazing selection of both craft and cask and some unknown breweries as well as local breweries are showcased here. There is also a very good selection of cans available. The staff really make the place. Very friendly, happy to chat to their customers and know their stuff when it comes to beer. I would highly recommend paying The Malt and Mardle when visiting Norwich.

Had a lovely beer here, straight from the cask, into a glass I need to add, with my son. Reminded me of a couple of places from the past. One a French bar I used to visit in Abberville. A fantastic first experience with some of finest ales and keg beer on offer, with a great attentive service. Full of knowledge without pretension. I go here regularly. It has never failed me: excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent people. We have lived near the city almost 4 years now and I don’t think I have ever gone longer than two months without visiting. I wanted to write this review to thank this small cafe. Thank you for providing me with all the food I can eat, will all the advice on how to cook the nut roast at Christmas and for looking and smelling nostalgia to me- I don’t know what it is, but walking into the place, especially autumn/Christmas time just makes me feel at home. Thank you Tofurei, I will deeply miss you. Oh and thank you for introducing me to spiced chai syrup in my oat iced latte- I will NEVER go back to regular lattes again. Like Christmas in a summer drink! (Ps- picture was from a while ago, only one I could find but perfectly encapsulates the beauty of this place)
