A few days ago I visited this cafe with a friend. A Japanese male staff member behaved so rudely to us (he ignored us when we entered, did not understand English at all, kept an abrupt and rude attitude overall etc). So I messaged them later about our bad experience through Instagram, in a fairly polite manner. They got back to me two days later, but it just said 'Haha, You are wrong, but I see no benefit to explain that to you.' That clearly shows I am not wrong... I do not recommend this place to anyone. There are many excellent Japanese cafes in London, such as Tsujiri and WA cafe, where the service is decent and the food is much better too.

This place is great. It’s super location is a bit out of the way but not so far from the well beaten track. It’s super kid friendly - but not in a bad way - and the food is simple, interesting, tasty and cheap. There’s no sign on the outside. They don’t need one. It’s somewhere that must trade on its excellent reputation. There are always Japanese people having lunch here which must be a good sign. Try it one time, I’m sure you’ll be back.

Peaceful and cosy Japanese cafe at the far end of one of Regent Canal's basins. Fantastic for families with kids, although I enjoy having quiet business meetings here or working with my laptop. Food is authentic Japanese and even though simple, extremely fresh and tasty!

We found this place thanks to a friend of ours who is originally from Japan. It's hidden near the basin very luckily away from hustle and bustle of Kingsland road. We've there last summer and still impressed. We had a branch there and we really pleased to find a authentic Japanese food there. Recommendable for a breakfast or branch

Cosy, relaxing, quite: when you need to smoothly wake up and you don't want to be among noises and chaos: this is the perfect spot! The atmosphere is amazing and food as well.. and yes, they have good coffee!!! The staff is friendly and keen to guide you through the discovery of the menu!

Authentic Japanese food served without fuss - simple delicious food, friendly and fast service. This is a great spot for a weekday lunch. I love breaking up my working day and coming here for a hot bowl of Udon noodles and a green tea. Favourite local hang out by the canal.

Came across Toconoco during our Sunday canal stroll. An idyllic, authentic feeling Japanese cafe with a delightful menu. Such a shame the service and eventual food let it down so badly. The lovely dreaded waitress was helpful and friendly but obviously under pressure with a lack of help from her colleagues. When our (daily special) food did arrive, the main feature, a beef & summer vegetable curry was cold. A complaint to the waiter fell completely flat and was only countered with an "ok"! When our pot of tea for 2 arrived (after the food) £2.70 was demanded (we had already paid as is the custom here)....it was served with just the one cup, complaining again at the counter I was handed a second cup with a theatrical roll of his eyes. Ho hum, how sad. For what we naively thought would be such a treat.

Food is lovely and the black sesame drink is amazing! Would recommend the lunch menu but also the pork and egg miso rice balls 👌🏼 the only downside is that is so popular the lunch menu tends to finish so you got to get there earlier than 1:30 pm. There is space for buggies and in the morning and afternoons is a great meeting place for mums, babies and toddlers.

Daughter and I had a wonderful meal with great wine and excellent service at Peg last week. Music selection was both bizarre and hilarious, totally inappropriate and far too loud for the small venue.
