Toby Carvery Thanet in Thanet

Awful, rude staff, overworked and queues to get in even when booked and queues for the carvery, not given much meat and nothing to write home about. As it was so busy you can't enjoy the meal in peace as the tables are so close to other people you can't have a decent conversation either. Car park a mess with people trying to get in and cars parked out of bay. Will not return.

So, Back to Toby, been to this place over the years and its been hit and miss, This time and the last few times its been amazing, the food was amazing, great portions, all meats available, all self service items available, and clean and fresh. The food was spot on and lovely, tasted hot and fresh, something, that a lot of places struggle to do, our waiter was great couldn't do enough for us. So, GM keep doing what your doing its working so very well, can't wait to come back , although the waste line may not like it...... NB. MAKE SURE IF YOUR DRIVING TO ADD YOUR CAR TO THE COMPUTER TO GET FREE PARKING, ITS IN RECEPTION AS YOU WALK IN, IF YOU DONT £60 FINE 2 WEEKS LATER

Visited this restaurant for a birthday meal and had a good experience which sadly was spoilt by an unfair parking ticket issued by the new parking firm that runs the car park there. The fine was annoying enough but what really peed me off was that no staff member saw fit to inform us of the new rules. Surely common sense would tell you to tell people when you check in at the desk to enter your registration number into the iPad that is apparently on the bar? Not impressed that I have now had to faff around appealing the charge that incidentally means that you lose the right to pay the lower rate of £60 and pushes it up to £100. Not impressed

Terrible food . Only 3 types of veg available . Rock hard reheated it seemed roast spuds . Skimping on the meats aswell . Came over for my daughters 33rd birthday dinner as id been away all week driving in europe as im a lorry driver. 8 of us including a 7 month baby . Spent close on 150 quid for it . Now today my daughters other half gets a £100 fine through the post for parking . Will not be using toby again and will be posting the disgust on the many Veteran pages i belong to . As someone else has said nothing said when you enter and senior staff standing infront of signs and booking in tablets . Think ill be using green king ( hooden horse ) 500 yards away from them now . I also notice that the general manager isnt replying to anyone whos saying about the parking fines . Head office here i come

Feeling fed up, Toby Carvery Thanet have just introduced a parking scheme! It would be nice if they informed you at the till, as we now have a £60 fine! We've been going years, since it opened, so were not really looking out for signs. Food was okay, gravy sub standard on this visit.

A very sticky place. I had to ask for the table to be wiped as it was so sticky. The pleasant waitress said it was due to coffee time just ending; it was 12:30. The neighbouring table said they had just moved because their previous table was so dirty. All non- carpeted flooring was sticky included the area near the bar, car wet and toilets. Food was disappointing - standard was a poor school lunch. The carrots and cauliflower was very over cooked and left on the plate after a mouthful. Peas were OK and the braised onions were lovely. The roast potatoes needed to be sawed through. Unfortunately, I covered by food with the gravy which was tepid and had not been cooked through so had little taste except for uncooked flour. Luckily I had mint sauce which helped. The roast meat was tasty though the portions small. The men in front got twice the amount of beef and lamb which I would of liked as half of my portion was fat; women consistently got small portions. The gammon was very salty. The best part of the meal were the Yorkshire puds. There was no Mac and cheese just cauliflower cheese The unlimited soda was limited as most of the varieties had run out and just water was dispensed. It was the august bank holidays but as we were charged £3 extra per portion there is no excuse. Very poor value and one of the worse meals in years

Food was ok but service was appalling. Especially taking into consideration that hardly any food is bought out. We waited 25 mins for 3 child’s ice creams and then cancelled as they hadn’t arrived and we needed to be elsewhere: we had to then wait whilst they were apparently cancelled off the order, only to find out that we had been charged for them anyway. Server was Emma J - clearly more training is necessary as well as more urgency. Maybe if they were able to turn things round on a reasonable timeframe there wouldn’t be as many queues.

We've been here a lot of times and ok sometimes are not quite as good as others but today was awful. The plus side they had lamb which is often not available but that's where the plus side ends. The potatoes were awful. They were mainly tiny and were as hard as marbles, and even the larger cut one that I had was too tough to cut through never mind eat. The peas were also hard and on the opposite side of the scale the Yorkshire pudding was soggy & undercooked. I have no idea what had happened today but it was an absolute disaster. Inedible food is not good at any time and I really hope they buck their ideas up because we were surprised at how quiet it was as it's usually absolutely packed for Sunday lunch, now we understand why!

Went for breakfast and the buffet was over loaded with food, the potatoes were hard and the chefs kept coming out to top up the food. There were 5 tables in at 9am. The food looked over cooked and not appealing at all, no ketchup and the waitress was stood talking to her family member it appeared. Not a great experience, less is more and topping up as things run out ensures freshness, please review your process on buffet food to ensure quality is maintained.

We have been to this Toby carvery many times. Today 24/7/24 was the first time this year and it was good to return. The welcome was very good. The atmosphere was great. The carvery was as always a splendid feast. Deserts were fantastic . There were three of us family members,we all loved our experience. A big thank you to Amy our waitress, she is lovely,and very efficient. Thank you Amy. Good value for money. Well done all staff.

Hadn’t been for many years . Very impressed by the excellent service and food was tasty . Very good value. Will certainly be back and wish there was one nearer to us in Folkestone

We were first in line for an early carvery due to later commitments. We spent around £8 on unlimited soft drink packages, but sadly a number of my usual choices were not available. We had the first cuts off the meat joints and the beef was a bit tough at the end we got and contained too much grizzle. That said most of it was edible and we did eat the majority. The roast potatoes were hit and miss with some not being so nice, but again we managed to grab extra ones to replace the ones we did not like so in the end no harm was done.

Such a shame usually like the breakfast but today 10th April the food was cold, wasn’t one item but virtually all of it , was in there at 0915 and was very quiet and all the food was out so maybe that was why but still very poor for the few that were in there dining . Maybe you should carry out regular temperature checks on the food

I only ever have scrambled egg,it has been perfect on a few occasions but lately it is awful.Didn't even try it today, it looked like someone had thrown up.Not the first time I have complained about it.Just means I don't get a breakfast,just coffee.

Visited Toby in Thanet a fair few times over the year's and it's very hit and miss if you get a good one. Went yesterday with my daughter and granddaughter, the lady in front asked if there was more stuffing as the one on show was dry, so he took the lid off the one behind which was just as bad, 3 trays of very dry looking roast potatoes and veg not looking better! The beef was so fatty and inedible, my granddaughter had 3 sausages instead of meat, 1 roast potatoes, some green beans £6 odd! I told the waitress the food was cold, I mean cold, she said she would let them know,, but over the time we was there she went no where near the kitchen. There is never a temperature check in all the times I've been, worse thing I noticed some of the roast potatoes had gravy on them, do they reuse them off of customers plates? They spent alot of money on a refurb, shame they don't invest in kitchen training. We all ate it, and I paid the £42 bill but that's it, enough chances, not going back

A return visit and we were not disappointed. Arrived around 12.30 and were seated quickly, then a quick visit to the soft drink machine followed by a visit to the carvery servery. Lots of meat this time and i added roast potatoes and stuffing, then on to the gravy station to smother the whole thing in tasty gravy. The carvery is now £10 for weekday lunch which is still one of the best value meals in the area.

Went in the other day for my partners birthday, things were going okay until desert. Me and my mother-in-law both had Sticky Toffee pudding with custard. I have never seen such a pathetic pudding in all my life, the Sticky Toffee Sponge, was a cake the size of a small muffin, when we tried cutting into it, it was rock hard like it had been over microwaved, so when the waitress Lorraine came over to collect plates and ask if everything was alright, we told her the problem with the puddings and got into an argument with my mother-in-law (who is nearly 80), about the puddings, she said they are oven baked and then heated in the microwave. She then snatched the plates away and walked off and didn't even try to resolve the issue, what a waste of money.

Visited on a Thursday evening, place was busy with most of the clientele appearing to be workmen looking for meals whilst working away from home. Food was very generous but nothing special as per the Carvery brand. V reasonable priced and service was ok

Booked a table to make sure we wouldn't have to wait and when we arrived were told there was a minimum wait of 45 minutes, even though I had booked a table. Not the first time this has happened to me here either. What was the point of booking a table if we still had to wait?

Just returned from a Sunday dinner here , food was cold and the gravy was thick , powdery and very unpleasant , the stuffing wasn't mixed through and the so called roast potatoes were soggy, been to many Tobys in the past , will never go back to this one again

Always a great breakfast. Very good service and helpful staff with a smile. Clean and immaculate inside would definitely use this Toby again when in the area, especially for a roast dinner.

I went with my sister for a nice hot breakfast before a day of sightseeing. We got there just as the staff were opening the doors and were the only ones inside. The staff seemed nice enough, we paid for breakfast and drinks and were seated. We went over to the food (still the only people in the restaurant) and all the food was soggy, cold, stuck together, skin on the gravy, skin on the beans. For lack of a better word, claggy. We tried to pick out some of the best bits and sat down but between us we managed to eat two sausages, toast, tomatoes and one egg before we left in disgust! Clearly yesterday's food that had been re-heated and plopped back out. By the time we left there were only two other tables of people both whom were also grumbling about the standard. We got back to our room and lay down as we both felt awful and my sister vomited three times! We won't mention what was happening in my belly... It is not even close to being worth what we paid for it, the food isn't nearly fresh, nor hot, nor even prepared on the day. Will never be going back!

Lunch at an old favourite in Thanet with a girlfriend. Four meats to choose from, my girlfriend had Pork, I had a mix of Pork and Beef. Both of us were happy with our meals. Nice mix of sauces and vegetables to choose from, I had Dripping roast potatoes which were tasty and well cooked through, add in gravy and Cranberry sauce it was a bargain at less than £10 each.

Christmas day meal Very disappointing. We had a 4.15pm booked slot. Seated at table 45 minutes late. Lots of complaints from customers around this period. Some asking for refunds and leaving. Table wasn't laid on arrival and the restaurant looked untidy and dirty. Carvery food was warm and no gravy or cranberry sauces were available on arrival at the Carvery queue. By the time we got back to our table everyone was complaining that the food was nearly cold. I had to ask the waitress to return my meal to the kitchen to reheat my dinner in the microwave. Paid £65 quid each for this disaster. Basically Toby couldn't cope. Poor management on booking arrangements. Couldn't blame the staff though. Won't be going back next year. Merry Christmas Toby 😤

Very disappointed with the food today. Have been there a while back & really enjoyed it but today the food was cold, even though we arrived at 12 at the start of the serving up. Vegetables used were frozen rather than fresh and had no taste, The cauliflower cheese was soggy. The meat was sparse - the beef fatty & chewy - the lamb sparse & chewy too. The only coke available was the refillable one but we only wanted one drink. We mentioned all this to the waitress but although she listened to us, nothing else was said. It's not cheap now so we expected better. We won't be going back.

Went for a Toby meal today at Westwood cross in Thanet. with my daughter. We are both gluten intolerant so we have the vegetarian gravy with our meal as it’s gluten free. Once we tasted the gravy which was now all over our meals the gravy tasted burnt. I spoke to the waitress who told us they have a new gravy and lots of people have complained about it over the last few weeks. Why are they still serving it out daily if people are saying it’s not good ? We did manage to get our meals replaced but with no gravy. Very disappointed. They need to listen to their customers.

Stopped here for breakfast on a Monday morning, food was delicious and plentiful. Not sure about having a Yorkshire pudding on my plate at breakfast though!!! but that’s only a minor gripe. Would definitely return for breakfast.

The food was good. The waitress service was good. But the fact that the queue was 20 minutes long for food was really pretty awful. Spoilt the experience. We were there Sunday 4 pm.

Have visited several times, on each occasion the food has been excellent, but a little disorganised when trying to order vegetarian. On this occasion (breakfast), a much improved service. But, why is the coffee etc located so far away, why is it not near the food?

The only part of the meal that I felt was reasonable was the meat all the vegetables had been left under heat lamps to dry out!

We turned up for my husband's 40th birthday, just the two of us as his birthday wish was a carvery. We drove quite a way to get here only to be turned away from a half empty restaurant. We were told there they were not accepting walk ins, nor were we allowed to book a table for a bit later on. As I said, the place was half empty when we got there! Very dissatisfied!

Disappointing and am wondering if their cook has changed, because I don't remember it being like this in the past. There were some elements which were very good, don't get me wrong, but they weren't good enough to elevate the experience overall. The meat (beef) was nicely done, and there was plenty of it.. the gravy was reasonable and the Yorkshires were perfection. But that's where the positives ended when it came to the food. The Roasted Potatoes were dried up large bullets, and we were all genuinely fearful that teeth would be broken... thankfully this didn't happen. And the veg were cooked to within an inch og their existence and didn't really taste of very much... The other positive element of the experience was the service. Our waitress clearly knew what she was doing, and service was pleasant and quick. Will I be here again? I'm not sure.. I'm hoping that perhaps it was just a midweek thing, and this isn't the usual standard.

This is a great lunch venue, clean, good food, great value. I go every week. Learn from the elderly community - they only go where it's clean, great food and great value. They talk amongst themselves about where to go and where to avoid. Use their learnings for yourself - only go where the elderlies go.
