Out first ever visit and we were impressed by what we had for lunch. We only chose a wrap and jacket potato, respectively, but both were beautifully presented, nicely done and very tasty. The restaurant was spotless and the service was excellent - staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Thorley Tavern Captain Digby Broadstairs Very expensive evening family dinner. Fish & chips not up to standard. Over priced , under delivered! Large Zinfandel £7.70 Large Pinot Grigio £8.40 Pint Cruz Campo £6.20 Absolutely ridiculous we are in Thanet not London/ New York, maybe that is why it was so empty on an Friday afternoon/ evening. Will not be returning again as you get much better value for your money in local pubs with restaurants (Lesters) ! It may have a childrens soft play but boy are you paying for it !!!!!

A brilliant location. Sadly service and food quality didn’t match the surroundings. For a start, staff were borderline rude. The wraps we ordered were all tortilla ( supermarket versions) and minimal filling with zero seasoning. It all felt a bit like the venue that’s aware it’s the only choice in the village and cynically exploits its advantage.

As a local couple who walk to the digby probably 2 weekends a month all year round i was outraged that today we were driving back from broadstairs and thought we would pop in for a drink to be told that there was a £10 charge to park as having drinks didnt qualify for free parking. So that will now be £500 to £1000 they will not be getting from us. Locals keep them ticking over during the winter months but now the tourist season is here we seemingly dont count. Is this the kind of place you wish to give your money to?

Visited the caption digby as a big family for a birthday on a Sunday. Excellent service throughout with all staff being very friendly, patient, and accommodating. One of our younger ones has allergies, and they were excellent with making sure things were safe and what options were available. Bar staff were great and the food was really really good too. We often come here for family events as the soft play is great for the kids to keep them busy whilst we wait. Overall a great experience and have always had a good experience here to be honest. Tracey and her team provided great customer service and were friendly, helpful and always smiling. The food was also well worth it. I highly recommend this place for family events, especially if you have young children. And special thanks to Tracey for giving the kids some chocolate if they clean up the soft play. The kids loved that.

In the past we have had a nice experience at the pub. But sadly since a change of staff, our visit was extremely disappointing. The managers Sam and Rob in particular were very rude and kept demanding that we pay for the car park despite ordering over £40 of food at the bar. We also ordered teas during the day but the same manager couldn’t be bothered to give me a cup to carry three hot drinks. The customer service was appalling. Then when we returned in the evening, we had reserved a table inside. One of us was willing to sit outside and eat with the dog but they kept demanding that we had to eat inside or would have to pay the car park fees. ‘Why say you are a dog friendly pub when you are not?’ I was willing to eat outside with my dog but was made to feel uncomfortable. The staff really need training in customer service. I would not recommend to others, you would be much better visiting a nice pub further afield.

The portions were huge we had the whitebait and prawn cocktail for staters, the prawn cocktail was basiclly half a pint of prawns with very little lettuce, very filling. Mains were the chicken and avocado salad which was huge over half a chicken, and the chilli, found the chilli a bit dry and tasteless, but everything else couldnt be faulted. The staff were helpful.

Arrived here unintentionally as we were let down with a planned arrangment, so was expecting nothing more than ordinary. The pub is obviously popular as there were plenty of customers, and lots eating, either in their dining room, pub, or big terrace at the front overlooking (at the cliff edge) the sea. We both had a warm goats cheese and walnut salad which was most generous in all the ingredients, the salad was the choicest leaves and with a lovely dressing. My wife was defeated before the end... it wasn't wasted. Had a pint of Sharps doombar, which is not my favourite, but hey ho. We were both impressed and glad the previous arrangment had fallen through.

Having secured a mid-afternoon table booking due to it being full booked at all other times, I was surprised to turn up and find the place pretty much empty. The whole outside was empty and apparently they were not serving food out there. This seemed like a complete oversight as it was a glorious day and instead, we had to sit in a dark rather hot part of the restaurant instead.Staff seemed pleasant enough and our order was taken relatively promptly. Everything came as ordered and the food was OK - my BBQ ribs were quite dry and my son's pizza was a microwave one which never goes down well...! Overall, it was a little overwhelming. Our food wasn't cleared for some time and was only cleared after prompting. We then had to prompt to see the desert menu and prompt again to get our bill. It was as if the staff had just disappeared. Our table was booked for 3.15 and we left around 5.30 and still the restaurant wasn't full, nor was the outside taken in any way. We left quite underwhelmed. The meal came to a fair price too for 4 adults and 3 children and we had just expected so much more.

Food was amazing as usual, the only downside to the whole meal was it was blisteringly hot in the upstairs corner where we were sat. All 3 of us were dripping with sweat (apologies for the detail but just to explain how bad it was).At one point halfway through the meal I was tempted to go outside and cool down but was probably just as hot outside. Would say, if there is a chance of getting some ceiling fans installed like the frigate or something similar, take that option. It's not many days its hot hot and we eat inside but when we do, it would make all the difference. Thanks again for a wonderful meal - steak cooked to perfection, wonderful chefs homemade chicken, ham hock and leek pie and a very spicy chilli later and we were stuffed!See you soon :)

This was not stated anywhere on the menu that was supplied, nor did it say on the menu that is was a 'light lunch'. What is so hard about making a sandwich? Don't you make enough money from this order? Looking at the rest of the menu, I could order lots of greasy options... burgers burgers burgers, fish and chips, chips chips, greasy meat grills, at inflated prices. Thank goodness there was one nice salad option. Just another pub restaurant, seeking to maximise profits and your waistline.

Unfortunately we were one meal short and it stayed like this for a while. The blonde man in charge, looked completely lost and was faffing about whilst the waitresses done everything inside and out. It was about 10minutes before one of the waitresses asked if the man had spoke to us about the missing burger. This is the blonde man in charge and he hadn’t. She was lovely and apologetic and my partners burger arrived looking delicious and she said it was. Great food, lovely view, lovely waitresses. Just a shame the man didn’t have control and small blips happened, which the waitresses had to sort for him. Would be 5 stars if the man contributed and didn’t look like a spare part.

We visited Cliftonville Monday 14th September. We decided to have a few beers sitting outside at the Digby because the weather was so nice. There were quite a few spare tables both outside and inside . We then realised having asked a memberof staff that if you were seated outside you had to order food and drink from the serving hatch . I then noticed a queue of about 20 people at this hatch. I said to another staff member we only want a couple of pints and was told we had to queue at the hatch where people were mainly ordering food. There was one girl serving at the hatch and she had to go and get any drinks that were ordered from the bar. As a consequence I waited in the queue about 20 minutes before finally ordering 3 beers. I have visited quite a few bars since Covid procedures were introduced but this was a complete farce what they were doing here. Inside was empty and there was nobody at the bar. The Digby is maybe a restaurant but it cannot be called a bar. In the time we had to queue we could have had another 2 rounds and there is no way after drinking your first pint would anyone queue another 20 minutes to get a second round. So inour group that 3 beers were consumed that could have been 9. The Digby has plenty of space and in our opinion whoever decided on the procedure could have done a lot better toimprove their takings. We were not the only ones saying it was a joke and one member of staff even sid it was ridiculous that theonly place selling drinks was the hatch. we have been recommended to visit this place many times but each time we have visited there has been an issue over shortages of staff or the way things are being run. Or does everyone only go to the Digby to eat.On the day in question as there was only one person taking orders for both food and drink and having to bring the drink to the hatch herself everyone must have been waiting ages forboth food and drink.

Staying in nearby hotel, we decided to try the Captain Digby for dinner. Great food, fantastic service, very COVID aware and respectful and catered for my fussy GF husband. We had the butterflied king prawns and garlic chilli cheese button mushrooms to start - yum, followed with garlic & herb chicken breast and steak for mains - with a lovely big baked potato for the GF hubby. And his meal was made with a most wonderful banana split with multiple coffees! The service was excellent and informed - definitely a recommendation.

We were there on the hottest day of the year. The garden was very busy. Every single server was pleasant and accommodating despite the heavy workload and the hot weather. Particular thank you to the dedicated server, Jessie, who was kind enough to literally chase us up the road when we forgot our picnic blanket. Will definitely return!

None of the staff were wearing masks or visors - very few of the customers also. They make a point of one-way system and sanitising hands but without masks all it takes is one asymptomatic staff member. No mention of collecting contact details in case of problems.

We ate here twice on our family holiday to Broadstairs, We knew before arrival that it was a reduced menu against their usual extensive menu, but the 2 vegetarians and 2 children with healthy appetites eating off the adult menu all found choices they really enjoyed. Perhaps another choice of veggie starter could be added as it was not really soup weather. We ate a variety from the menu from salads, steaks and chicken dishes and nothing could be faulted. The tables are 2 metres apart, the restaurant is well ventilated and the sanitising was very good, we felt safe and comfortable eating here. Yes they have the space to spread the tables apart but many other eateries could take a lesson from here. The staff were very friendly and efficient, my granddaughter had a very enjoyable birthday meal on our second visit.Thank you for the 2 enjoyable evenings.

Wow! I watched this pub serve and serve again. And how! A busy sea- side pub on the hottest day of the year this was a master- class for how pubs can turnover a highNumber of customers in a speedy, safe, clean and efficient manner and all with excellent customer service. They served outdoors and indoors and that young team of staff did not flag. I watched them ingeniously serve outdoors from a hatch/window and also serve indoors maintaining social distancing. At the end of the evening their (only)three female toilets were still clean with hand wash and sanitising gel and paper towels. Wow and wow again. Fantastic on steroids.

Went for a meal yesterday evening & sat outside. Food took a whole hour to arrive. During the time we were waiting the weather turned a bit chilly and windy, so we moved from a table to one of the booths. This was still dirty as it hadn't been cleaned from the previous customers. When we arrived the staff were cleaning the tables, but appeared to stop as the evening went on.The plastic glasses they are serving all the drinks in also turned out to be a problem, as they blow over in the wind & you end up losing the last 1/3 of your drink!

I last came here three years ago, so obviously pre covid but thought I would come back with two friends. Very good reception from a young man in the main door. Well organised. Spaced out tables in the beer garden and probably one of the most beautiful views in the country looking across to a former convent. Very good service from a hatch and one of my friends ate lunch which looked great. All in all, a lovely two hours sitting in the sun with beer.

We love eating here. Just returned from a trip to the area during which we ate here twice. as ever the staff could not have been friendlier ; the service was brilliant and the menu whilst a little more limited than usual was nevetheless wide ranging enough to make decisions as to what to have difficult. The skill for us is that they cater equally well for young families and for the older generation and unlike other places in Broadstairs seem to have adapted to current conditions without losing their focus on delivering a good customer experience

Fine pub but bad customer service and management. Had an issue with my order, ended up out of pocket and with in friendly staff saying they can’t rectify it without me paying again because it would hurt their profit.Left unhappy after just trying to stop for a pint. A shame.

Enjoyed a lovely family dinner soon after The Digby reopened after lockdown. They have implemented a one way system, there are less tables and the restaurant still has it's warm, clean, friendly feel, serving a slightly reduced menu however maintaining good food quality and experience just as before.

There was two of us for dinner, and it must be noted that in the current situation there is plenty of measures in place, such as multiple sanitiser stations which were pointed out to us as we were taken to our table by Hollie, which was very good. The food was very nice, lots of it too. The mushroom starter is nice, not too cheesy and a nice touch of chilli, the bread was also nice and soft too. Similarly the nachos also looked incredible. Our mains were just as good, we had the Cajun Chicken and the Garlic & Herb Chicken, firstly it is definitely worth the money! The chicken is nicely flavoured in both dishes and as are the mushrooms. The chips are also perfectly cooked and fluffy!Overall it was a very nice meal, and accompanied with excellent service, which was friendly and welcoming. Special mentions to Sam and Jasmin for this. Thank you!

Have had a number meals at the Captain Digby over the years because it is generally a decent family restaurant but my latest visit was definitely mediocre. The service was OK but the meal, particularly mine, was below par. I had chosen the beer battered fish which the restaurant advertises as 'Our famous hand battered cod'. Well my wasn't. It looked and tasted as if it came straight out of a packet.Didn't help that a nearby table was loud, coarse and rowdy.Would think about going there again.
