Being relatively local have eaten here several times. Some of these reviews make me laugh. The new touch screen, for free car parking is at the check in desk, can’t be missed!! Unfortunately I understand that other nearby businesses were using the Toby Carvery to park their cars hence the new system making sure only Carvery customers are in the car park. Easy to use, no fuss, no problem whatsoever, dont blame them for doing it!! As for food choices, It’s a Carvery, it’s what they do and do best and why people go….. walk in, tea is ready, no waiting. Always plenty of choice. Turkey, Pork and Gammon always spot on, Lamb on Sundays. Beef, if I have to be honest can occasionally be a bit hit and miss, so never my first choice. How some of these people pile their plates up like mountains, is great entertainment but it’s part and parcel of the whole Carvery experience and why people keep going back. Good basic food, plenty of it, at a good price.

Had the carvery the food was lovely had icecream after staff friendly did not have to wait long place clean and tidy definitely go again and highly recommend

Just to let you know that we have been to the Toby Carvery at talk and I can not express my delight.What a wonderful experience the meal is one of the best carvery s we have had it is well worth a visit plenty of choice and excellent service. Went on 7th Apr for carvery, nothing said about parking/registering number plate,as a result I've received a £100 fine, sent a message to toby talke about it no reply, I'm nearly 70 yes old and can't afford it. If the staff who greeted me would have just mentioned about registering car this could have been avoided . Help would be appreciated

Used to love coming to this Toby Carvery as everything was brilliant. Visited with my Mum today (13 Dec) and to say it’s going down the pan is the only way to describe it. Yorkshire puddings were freezing cold, sprouts were like bullets, even the little ones. No one came around as we were eating to ask if everything was ok, they just removed the plates once we had finished. I don’t mind paying money for good food, but to hardly have anything to eat because of the quality and still paying £25 is ridiculous.

Took a party of 10 for the breakfast . Very friendly welcome and table ready as expected . Food was excellent , hot and fresh . The icing on the cake was the excellent service received from Ceris . Came to check all was well with our breakfast, which it was, and after we had finished eating returned to make sure we had enjoyed our visit . A friendly face goes a long way and nothing was too much trouble . We enjoy eating at this location .

We went in the morning for the buffet style breakfast. Cold plates so your food goes cold really quickly. Buffet serving spoons are all tiny, as in child sized, which is beyond stingy, tight and really rather pathetic on every level. Greasy eggs swimming in grease. Bacon caked in grease. Greasy sausages. The hash browns were disgusting; like squashed, dried up wafers and tasted as bad as they looked. Beans in that much juice it was more like "bean soup". Cheap, tiny pieces of chopped tomatoes. No cooked tomatoes or scrambled eggs, yet they bizarrely had Yorkshire Puddings and a jug full of gravy out??!! Inattentive staff and noone asked if we were enjoying our meal. I've had 100% better breakfasts elsewhere. The pub itself is dark and has a miserable atmosphere. I will never step foot in here again.

Travelling down to Stoke for a gig (number two in a long line of events during October) and having not eaten for hours the previous day, we were determined to find some reliable decent food. We saw the Toby, and despite its lurid appearance decided to go in. Hubby mumbling “we can always find somewhere else, I suppose.” Anyway, in we went. Quiet doesn’t come close. No staff in evidence at all, but the smell of the food made us decide to stay. To be fair the chef was topping up the food and shortly after someone came to take my husbands drink order. The staff were lovely and friendly, but I think a bit overworked, there were a lot of tables that needed clearing. Despite that it’s a very welcoming place, clean and comfortable. We ordered our food, I had the veg carvery and himself had the vegetarian melt. We were told they would notify us when the melt was ready and a really friendly young man came over to let us know it was ready. We both enjoyed our food. It was tasty, nicely cooked and piping hot. The restaurant is on crossroads and it was an excellent spot for people watching. Even the appearance of a man shouting abuse at someone didn’t spoil things, the waitress/barmaid handled it really well. It’s a good place to eat, not the most exciting, but as you go to eat what’s not to like.

Went here for the evening carvery for my sister's birthday dinner. Excellent food , generous serving of any of the meats on offer, I had the slow-roasted lamb, excellent. Nicely cooked vegetables to help yourself to and the lovely Toby gravy, altogether excellent dining. The only fly-in-the-ointment was a large family group of Eastern Europeans at the next table shouting at each other in normal conversation, you couldn't hear yourself think. Apart from that, happy to reccomend for a good meal out. I also have the TGTG app from here on a regular basis and excellent servings and saves throwing the food away.

Absolute joke No plates No sausages no pancakes no hash brown no pig pudding. Was told with attitude to go and sit for it to be cooked by the kitchen staff only to be told by the miserable manager and her attitude that if we didn’t get food we wouldn’t get any as there was only 1 hour left for the breakfast. Wouldn’t recommend Only 1 blonde lady was really nice and apologised to everyone who was there I told her it wasn’t her fault it was the managers When we got plates they were cold Been here loads for carvery and not had an issue but today was really bad and bad management

Not been here for years then it was suggested we go as it had improved on the food side of things , so visited at dinner time and was shown to a table from where we ordered drinks 🍷 and shown where the carvery was there was a good choice of meats and plenty variety of vegetables and also pasta , Must say very pleasantly surprised how good it was and so we visited a week later and the quality and service was still just as good so we will visit again soon . One thing that could be improved on would be help for anyone struggling to walk and hold a full dinner plate , assistance in this quarter would be nice, I know we could ask but it would be good if staff noticed anyone with disability first and asked if they would like any help getting or carrying their meal ,

Both menu and carvery style food, carvery is full of freshly cooked foods. Staff are friendly and polite.

Sunday price £13 on a Bank Holiday Monday!!!!!! They don’t put that in big letters do they?!!!! They advertise lamb on a Sunday but no lamb today! Food same as ever….great meat, average veg and variable Yorkshire puddings. Mine was quite tough. If I’d known I would have gone a different and cheaper day.

Nothing to indicate that they charge Sunday prices on a Bank Holiday. They should have the decency to offer the same Sunday food (like lamb). Drink prices are extortionate… £3.50 for a kiddies orange juice.

Stopped here on way to Manchester. We were shown a table straight away. The carvery beef and pork were beautifully cooked, and the cauliflower cheese and the onion side dishes were delicious. All the food was fresh and topped off with the Toby gravy. The staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely stop off here again.

We’ve visited twice in the past two months and on both occasions the food has been fantastic and the service from Colin has been great!, massive shoutout to him! The quality of the food is superb for the price.

Just come home after a lovely Boxing Day meal. The server, Abbie, was attentive and very polite, nothing was too much trouble for her. As my daughter was home poorly and couldn’t make it Abbie organised a takeaway meal which was well wrapped and made sure she didn’t miss out completely. Thank you!

We visited today for a birthday and the moment we walked through the door the staff were so unwelcoming, they acted like they didn’t want to be there! Arrived on a very cold, dark Nov evening around 5.30pm. It was nice and warm inside and fairly quiet, so we had a choice of tables. We both had their set carvery, on the standard size plates. I had turkey and hubby had gammon. Both tender and tasty, with a good selection of veg, plus one of their large Yorkshire puddings. I couldn’t eat any more, but hubby had warm apple pie with ice cream, which he enjoyed. The total bill was £24.75 which included 2 lattes. Good value for money. We left just before 6.30 pm and it was beginning to get busy.

Just been for a carvery lunch with a friend (we had a voucher).From the outside, the pub looks drab. We had a struggle to park as it’s clearly being abused by work vans (garage across the road) and by people picking up their children from the school down the road. This is not good for customers.On entering, the bar was empty. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated. All diners had been squeezed into one section of the pub at the rear. The configuration of the tables meant that I had my back to the side of someone else’s table, very strange.The food itself was ok. You don’t seem to get as much meat as in the past. I had turkey which was nice. And a slice of beef which was very fatty. The mash and roasties were delicious, cauliflower cheese had very little sauce. The rest was good. This time, the gravy was nice and thick! In the past Toby’s have had the tendency to chuck out watery gravy to diners.I ordered a dessert which took well over 45 mins to come to the table. I actually think it had been forgotten, until the waitress asked a nearby table for their dessert order, she caught my eye, and then suddenly appeared with mine! Shame, as it was very nice!There was no check back during the meal, and the table took a while to be cleared. Distinct Lack of staff on that particular day I imagine.

Went in the other day just for a quick bite to eat and a drink and as soon as i got in there and went to the bar i was spoken to very rudely and my drink slammed down on the table a total disgrace to the toby name and the barperson that was serving was called josh I would never go in there again Come on TOBY look after your customers and reputation and loik seriously at employing staff like this

Took my grandson in there for a treat (he loves the ice cream there)... and managed to leave some shoes I'd bought him behind. The assistant manager ran down the street after us to return them. Really considerate and helpful. Thank you!!

Ten of us had a carvery at the Talke Toby. And everyone commented on how little meat they had been given. The meal itself was very nice but you may only want to visit if you are trying to give up eating meat.

Thought would stop for a drink and no one was at the bar to serve so after 5 minutes of waiting went to the reception bit round the corner to see if I would be acknowledged as they might of thought I wanted food. Still no-one was around was getting ready to leave when two people came out from the door behind the bar. No apology which is rude. We did look at the menu and it seems if you are vegetarian or vegan and want the carvery you pay more for it than a meat eater which is discrimination would love to know why and I will certainly be contacting head office. Dined tonight at this Toby Carvery, booked a table with it being a Sunday and knowing Toby's get so busy. 8 of us dining all had carverys and 7 of us had desserts. This toby didnt seem as busy as China Garden on festival park so will probably visit this one more in the future to save the queues. Food all tasted good, and as bowls of veg were emptying they were getting refilled. Tom the Carver was really friendly and took his time to chat to each person he was serving whilst still maintaining a steady flow of the queue. Our server was Hannah and she was also polite and friendly. Did feel rushed either like at China garden which was good as going for a family meal we all wanted to catch up. Only issue was toilets could have done with a tidy as there was tissue on the floor and we also had an extra kids carvery added to our bill, but we noticed before paying so didnt cause any issues.

We usually go to the Toby Carvery in Festival Park, but thought we would give the Caldwell Tavern a try. Great friendly service, nice food and fantastic value for money.

£26 two dinners a coke and water.. the water was £3.10 a water!! Beef was fatty as mr tumble.. £7.50 in the week for a dinner but for some reason they raise the price for Sunday by a couple of quid.. joke

Having sat down and waiting for 10 min to be seen , the attitude of the main person on was dreadful , no greeting or smiles , just sit where they want you to sit , And no how was your food , like a cattle market come and go very quickly , staff were unfriendly . And being a veggie I asked for this and was greeted with 3 white small sausages and a basic Calvary which is very expensive . And is mash potatoes . Food prep is basic and the carrots are only slightly warm . The potatoes are mash with only one other option .

Having visited this Toby a couple of years ago and not experiencing the best of customer service decided to give it another try. Couldn't have been more different. Staff enthusiastic and attentive - both front of house and chef - food hot, tasty and plentiful (including portion of meat). Much improved - well done!

Stopped going for years, but have been two or three times this year. Breakfast is great, but the carvery has been nothing special but acceptable until today. We're back to miniscule portions of meat and every item of the vegetables lukewarm. Looks like we'll have to find somewhere to go for a quick meal
