Although this is the first review I have left for the Dick Turpin, it is being given due to my continuing pleasure with all aspects of eating here many times. A dog friendly pub/restaurant, staff are friendly and believe in customer service, the food is always good, and the prices are reasonable. I eat here at least every week and am very happy to continue. As part of the Sizzling Pubs group, it is definitely one of the best.

Went for a family birthday meal, we had reserved a table. They had given it to regulars to enable them to watch the darts on the television! Our table had obviously been swapped, it was full of dirty dishes. The staff member was rude and hostile, and winked at the couple they had given our table to! We have been waiting for food for so long, Bono is about to do a concert for us.

2 hours to eat 3 courses with big gaps between. Vets noy thoroughly cooked. People who came in 30 mins after us served first even though their time was later.

This pub has been turned around by Donna and her staff, very friendly helpful staff and the quality of the food and service has improved tremendously. Many happy visits. Thank you.

Nice ale, decor and staff. Rather quiet. My Mum and Dad opened the Dick Turpin when it was built in 1970.

This is a great family pub with a good menu and good service, never had a problem or poor meal, I keep going back so says it all.

Food good, service good, but noise level so high when quiz started that we couldn't hear each other talk at all.

Nice place to come when you are in Newcastle. Food was great and staff are friendly.

The food was great, the service was very good nothing was too much trouble for us. The only thing was the service behind the bar was a little slow. It was very popular and maybe needed another person behind the bar to help out when there was a queue? Nevertheless we will be coming back to sample more of your menu. Thanks Jill.

Went for lunch, reasonably priced , and food and service very good

First time being here since I was a teenager . I went with my uncle and husband. I was pleasantly surprised. Although at 12 o clock all pensioners go at the same time . The service was really friendly. However when the food came which we waited about 20 minutes if not longer but like i say all went in at the same time . Food didn't come out at the same time . I ordered steak medium . Reasonably priced I had it with peppercorn sauce. The steak came more rare but was very tough I ate it , but would not order it that way . My husband ordered the ultimate burger he says it was very nice . My uncle order gammon . Mine and my husbands food came out and my uncle had to wait at least 4/5 minutes for his which we waited until he had his . We all had desert again mine came and the others had to wait at least 5 minutes for these. I would go here again as the food was reasonably priced and quite nice . But just need to make sure food is being delivered at the same time .

Really enjoyed the food cooked well service good,had to queue to order but not a problem used the table order service which is convenient,maybe put some peas on the mixed grill🙂

Met up with some friends for some drinks. All casks were on and tasted great. A few in watching the sports on the TV. Also had a impromptu burger which was not shy on all the trimmings.

Called in here today to treat our son (uni student up the road) to a meal out. Warm greeting at the bar from the young lady serving and no wait for our drinks. Picked table and then went back up to the bar to order our food. The starter came out quickly which was a boneless chicken plate, well presented, hot and tasty. Our mains came shortly after and we were really impressed given the price of the food here, it surpassed our expectations by far. I ordered the surf and turf which arrived on a sizzling skillet, my son had a chicken burger with bacon and cheese which he quickly demolished and my husband had the curry feast which I was honestly a little envious of ! Each member of staff we came across was friendly and even though it was busy the service was spot on. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and wouldn’t hesitate to return here :-)

I went here with my daughter. I had booked a table. Chose what we were eating, went to the bar, and paid. Waited a short time for our meals. The food was good, tasty, hot. Good pub grub

We called in yesterday wanting to eat but decided it was too busy and everyone seemed to be sitting on top of each other. Any table that was empty still had the dishes on uncollected. We had a lovely pint of San Miguel but took it outside in the fresh air. Large outdoor seating area. Bar area not seperate to the lounge area so that was a bit rowdy at the bar with a few of the older regulars a little bit under the influence. Would return for food at a quiter time maybe on a lunch. Friends eat here regularly and say its value for money. The Lady that served us was friendly whilst also trying to banter with the said locals.

Friendly staff, great food and atmosphere

Just visited the Dick Turpin for tea and to use a 40% voucher. Front of house staff are always pleasant. However the place needs a good deep clean. Now for the food... we both decided to play it safe and have a burger, my husband had a double beef burger and I had a beef burger with buttermilk chicken. Chips were nice and hot so finished them first with the bbq dip. Then I started to eat my burger, due to its size I cut it in half. When I picked up the second half and looked at what I was about to eat I felt instantly sick. A big clump of hairs with bits of fluff holding them all together. My Husband instantly emptied his mouth back onto his plate and I called a member of staff. This was not just a single hair, in my opinion it looked like my burger had been dropped on the floor and picked up a few unwanted passengers. The waitress took the food away then sent a much younger colleague to offer us a free drink or dessert. I asked for a refund and one was given. This pub used to be nice,clean and served tasty (hairless) food. What's happened?

Chain pub atmosphere / chain pub food / chain pub setting in everyday regard... pretty reasonable for price if that's what you want. None of the 'free salad' here that you get at other places, which then inflate their price accordingly so that it's far from 'free' . We go here when there are several of us wanting to go out, as likely to have something for everyone on the menu

Staff here are amazing! Nothing is ever too much for them. Keep up the good work 👏

We had a really lovely fish and chips 2 for 11.75.Cooked beautifully.

First off, this is my favourite No.1 pub in the ST5 area, both for food and drink. That said we booked a table, early evening, for a family birthday party. We arrived to see a sign on the door saying, kitchen problems, no food. We enquired at the bar and they said, as we had booked that they would honour our booking. The “sizzling “ platters arrived, unfortunately no sizzle. We didn’t send them back as I don’t think they had a chef? Any way, nearly all the food was Luke warm at best, the gravy and the chips were cold. Very disappointing evening in an empty room! Fortunately it won’t stop me from going back for the fish and chips! Also, last 3 visits, been plagued by dive bombing house flies, some serious swatting needed!

As a chain pub we know what to expect. It was good value whilst the food was average quality. The outside of the building was unclean and untidy, there were glasses and bottles from previous guests when we arrived. Those and more were still there when we left after our meal. The staff were friendly.

The food was nice and the service quick even though they had a large party in at the same time.

Can't remember the exact amount of the lunch time meal deal but can remember what fantastic value it was and tasty. Where else can you sit down with Gammon, egg and chips, lasagne, garlic bread and chips, one large pepsi, and a pint of Guinness for £21.. absolute bargain, well done.

Kinda disappointed. Ordered a Giant Gyros. Received half plate of vegetables. Under the few piece of fries and meat. 😐 This is not a gyros. The Hunters Chicken is tasteless, the other chicken plate has a few chicken whats raw/not cooked properly. Anyway, if you need a good headchef, call me. 😉 (I saved 2 restaurant from closing down and doubled the daily sales.)

First time trying here today. I ordered fish & chips my partner ordered surf & turf. When the food came out fish looked nice but when eating it was sloppy inside it was like eating mush. Also found hair on my plate along with long stringy things from the fish. My partners steak, which we upgraded to 8oz was just pure fat no meat on at all. Couldn’t speak to staff as no one came to us to ask if meal was ok, we also waited 15/20 mins after finishing for plates to clear so we could talk to them, but they didn’t clear our table either. Will not be returning.

Lovely food for pub food. Not home cooked

Me and my partner have been here numerous occasions now, and it's been good to very poor, but today they hit an all time low, unedable rubbish, when my girlfriend complained they said they would have a word but never returned. Don't let my review stop you from having drinks their as it has a really nice atmosphere, sadly I can't say the same about the food.

Sizzler pub, the snapping came quickly and was very nice. The staff were very friendly, and there's loads of car parking space. The name of the pub appeals to my childish humour also.

Really good food and the atmosphere is great! Great value for money and the puddings are lovely! The outdoor space is wonderful in the summer and the fact they are dog friendly is a bonus! Would recommend booking if wanting to bring the dog as always busy!

I bet the Greeks do not have that much boiled veggies tucked away from view and covered in a bit of meat and some fries. And I bet they don't empty a whole bottle of mayo per portion. The food, well, half of it anyway, went back. Service was OK-ish. Late, no cutlery, no napkins, had to go back for everything, she apologised and was very friendly, but still very late. Not going back there anytime soon, not recommending this to my friends. I care too much about them.

Its a lovely pub, staff friendly and food lovely nice prices and family friendly too.

Service service service. N line to be served , 2 barmen on duty , the one who served the person in front of me said to other patrons were before me on the other side of the bar and he went to serve them fair enough. Four other people joined line that side of the bar and were being served by second bar staff. So much for next in line each one of these customers ordered food in front of me then when eventually the first bar person came to take my order there was then a thirty minute wait.

A good pub of the Sizzling brand. Food and drinks of a good value although I would wish the staff knew how to make a cocktail properly and present it like the menu photos instead of throwing whatever spirits into the easiest available glass. Parking is ample and food is great though with lots to choose from.

Had two fish and chips that were cooked beautifully and not at all greasy. Staff were very friendly and attentive. It was busy but we didn't have to wait long for our meals. Lovely warm and comfortable pub. We enjoyed our visit we re-booked straight away.

Used this pub many times with no problems . Yesterday went with my husband had a mixed grill the chips looked and tasted like they had been fried refried and refried again hard over cooked not nice

Food was lovely, went for a wake. Unfortunately it was very busy, the area wasn't cornered off and people kept coming in and asking about the table. Not pubs totally pubs fault. But if it was solely in the conservatory as discussed maybe a barrier like a queueing one would stop this. As happening numerous times Food wise... amazing!

Regular customer here and on the whole very satisfied. Food / drinks/ staff/ atmosphere all very good. My big gripe is the LOUD MUSIC ! Go in for a nice meal and a chat, and you have to shout to hear a conversation above the awful, non descript row. Please management GET RID OF IT !.

Not been for a while and they have a new menu but it was absolutely lovely. Tried the chicken and mushroom pie and the salted caramel profiteroles, both were delicious. Definitely won't leave it as long to come back next time

My belated mother’s day meal completely ruined by an extremely rude and arrogant manager who does not deserve a job. Lady behind bar who took food order made a mistake, pressed wrong button on till so one of the meals was wrong. The manager came over and caused a scene demanding extra money for THEI R mistake. She was not at all apologetic, my son went over to the bar to try to sort it out with her, she had absolutely no skill whatsoever in trying to resolve the problem, spoke to him like dirt and just kept demanding extra money. My son paid the extra money in the end to shut her up, so we did not stop for sweets or extra drinks, couldn’t get out quickly enough. Look out everybody so it does not happen to you. Defo won’t be going back there. My belated mother’s day meal completely ruined.

Lovely lunch this afternoon. Tried some of the new chicken dishes-Spicy Chicken Nachos for starter and Crispy Chicken Feast for main-bf had breaded mushrooms and a Mega Mixed Grill. Fabulous 👌🤩

Told us we had to wait 45 mins for food we waiting 1 hour and 10 mins . The food was lovely we finished went up to the bar to order puddings to be told they have. Stopped serving food now 🤬 so we r not happy there was 5 of us

Thoroughly good lunch, good food and service. Minor disappointment was that the table was in the corner and too dark. Note for next time...a different table.

Had lunch here with my friend and my daughter. We got there at 12 pm, and the majority of the tables were reserved. We eventually managed to find one in the conservatory. The first thing we both commented on was the sticky floor. We ordered meals from the 2 meals for £11.75 menu, I had the fish and chips with garden peas, and my friend had the lasagne with garlic bread. My daughter had the under 5s kids meal for £4.49 which she chose 2 fish fingers, garlic bread, and beans, and make your own sundae and a lemonade. Food arrived promptly and was piping hot. The fish was beautifully cooked, and the batter wasn't greasy. We all commented on how nice the meals were. A service check back was carried out. The pub also had pictures and colouring in crayons for children. We had no faults about the food. What let it down was all the tables being reserved and the sticky floor.

Beautiful meal, presentation was excellent, food was hot, it was very busy but the staff found us a table, staff were excellent, advised on vegetarian options for my friend, loved the relaxed atmosphere couldn’t fault it, staff always appear to be happy even though they are certainly kept busy, would defo recommend and shall be returning

Have been several times but just want to say this place never fails. Staff are always lovely staff, very accommodating our needs and its always a great atmosphere. Although they were busy (testament to how good the place is) the food was spot on. Been a while since i was last here but i will definitely be back again

Lovely food and friendly staff. Dog friendly is a plus too! Pub is always nicely decorated and the food is always really good for the price! Definitely recommend but also recommend booking as it does get busy!
