Toby Carvery Shiremoor in Newcastle upon Tyne

We have been here many times , however tonight the service and food appalling. The usual meat portions appear to have shrunk., the chef may as well I’ve just waved it over the plate for what he put on our plates Waited so long for the gravy the food was cold . Then when asked for the bill at the end waited and waited. Ended up having to find another person to pay the bill . Not the service we are used to

I think this has to be the nicest Toby I've had from any Toby, some Tobys the veg is nice and the meats not, some the meats nice and the veg isn't, this place it was all nice.

Very disappointed today I was given all the bits of lamb that was lying around there was just the bone left all the meat was very hard I told the waitress and she said she would tell them nothing else was said to me after paying 34 99 very disappointed

Served by Katie who was extremely professional, informative, friendly and attentive. Food is fresh and plentiful. Ideal for meetings with friends or work colleagues. Value for money and generally plenty seating.

Dreadful, dreadful experience. I’ll never return and will advise everyone I know the same. One of poorest customer experiences I’ve ever had. What a waste of my time.

Missing items and incorrect drink sent.

Was surprised at how good it was, loved how the gravy, roasties and Yorkshire pudding was sent separately so as not to go soggy, very filling too. Thank you

We were sat down for over half an hour before our server came up to us to ask us if we had ordered drinks yet. Fair enough if it was busy but it wasn’t and our server with the brown curly hair was stood there chatting to the young blonde girl right in front of us, not even paying attention to their customers.No mention of food, took her another 25 minuets to ask us if we were here for the carvery, which weren’t we wanted other menu items. By this point we had been here for an hour , only just had been given our drinks and only just had our food order taken. Horrible service and not the first time this has happened. The young staff that work their look like they hated their life’s.

Honestly, just a really good value for money carvery. The members of staff are all very lovely, we were served by Katie and had a great meal.

Couldn’t get a table. Was a Sunday and we hadn’t booked. Looked nice inside though and very busy.

Food was great ,plenty of choice at the carvery,was very busy couldn't really hear conversation and manager/supervisor need to be more pleasant to customers and nicer to junior staff

Food was awful. The meat was fatty and was barely any there was no roast potatoes and the Yorkshire pudding was rock solid. I will not be ordering from here again. The best thing about this was the delivery driver she was lovely!

What a difference a day makes! The last time I was in Toby Shiremoor, it was a pleasant experience friendly staff, hot fresh food, today Saturday 15th of March 2025, the complete opposite i was only able to add 4 item's to my plate Turkey, sage and onion stuffing, carrots and green beans as everything else wasn't available wouldn't mind but it was at lunchtime aswell, really disappointing. I had to put extra carrots and green beans on my plate because there wasn't anything else. (Available)!!!

No gravy so was dry and was cold but expected that . Nice overall but sad about gravy also asked for mint sauce in comments

If you have an eating disorder or similar medical condition.. do not visit. The staff member, Beth, is extremely rude and unhelpful. After already discussing my health conditions with head office and being advised on how to approach the subject, I've had no problems at other branches. They are more interested in making an extra £4, than catering for customers needs.

The carvery was ok but the apple pie was frozen right through. I microwaved it and it was still frozen, not happy

Disgusting,avoid !! The meat was unreal ,but the “special gravy” was absolutely shocking! I had put some in my yorkie and couldn’t eat it ! The chefs looked like they didn’t want to be there ,you get the bare minimum of meat ,the potato was ok but roasties were yack ! I won’t be returning!

Food horrible, server couldn’t do her job, messed up party of 9, kids chicken nuggets came as 4 chicken nuggets in a bowl, all drinks messed up, when asked for two kids fruit shoots they brought two pints of black current squash for two kids under 2

Nice value meal, well looked after by Katie. She was pleasant, efficient and attentive. Toby could do better though by actually serving you an actual slice of meat instead of scraps, overall though very tasty

All staff were very kind and attentive, particularly Jen. The carvery was excellent- tasty roast meats, delicious Yorkshire puds and plentiful nicely cooked veg. The surroundings are clean and the general atmosphere very pleasant. Thank you!

The waitress on 26.02 was amazing, she was on her own and really excelled herself. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves 👏👏👏👏

On arrival informed only Beef and Pork were available. Neither children like these meats, so opted for the kids meal menu. To be then be informed there was no chips…I repeat, no chips…we left without ordering. Doubt we will go back…would give zero stars if possible

Normally I can't knock this place but today wow service was nonexistent once u get seated and ya drinks just not bothered with you god help ya if u wanted starters or a desert sat at table waiting to pay bill try to get a waiter attention they just flat out ignore you waited over 40 mins till someone finally came over I Normally would of went and found someone but wanted to see how long it would take them. The food was luke warm today at best the gravy was like dishwater. The chef serving was probably the best part of the day he was friendly went and got a fresh turkey when was running low. Hopefully the next time we visit things have improved

The service was commendable, but there was a delay when asking for the bill, and some of the dishes had issues, with certain items being tough including the cabbage and the carrots, the meat being dry, and lacking in flavour.

Staff esp the female staff are outstanding but why is the food so lukewarm? Spoils what is a great midweek dinner

Consistent, fresh not frozen food, you know what you are going to get and unlike many other carverys they don't cut the meat so fine it's see through. On a personal note, I'd rather they didn't throw green garnish over everything but apart from that I'm happy to recommend it. Book in advance on a Sunday unless you are going after 4pm.

The food arrived nice and hot and the portions were generous. Was always sceptical ordering in from a carvery but this was really great. can't fault it.

Badly organised, booked a table and was still expected to wait when we arrived. Mother disabled and seated waiting area was packed. Found a chair but my mother was distressed with all the people waiting. She could not have stood in the huge queues for the food. We had to leave. Won't go again.

Booked for 12:30 Didn't get a seat until just after 1pm Obviously over booked so pointless even having the option to book a table Otherwise the staff were great and food was average

Good value carvery, what more can you want?

Booked online through website, booking apparently was only a 'request' for a booking. Web development is vastly needed for this business. 0 star experience as turned away at the door after booking thought to be confirmed.

Ordered 2 dinners 1 beef and other beef,turkey and pork but didn't have any turkey they had no gammon left but that was unavailable where as other meats were but still didn't receive al meats

Breakfast has went down hill. There potatoes aren't cooked and everything else over done. Nothing like it once was

Today 03/02/2025 we decided to visit for breakfast. Nice warm welcome from the staff. Unfortunately the food wasn't very good, Bacon over cooked, mushrooms over cooked & eggs were like rubber, beans & tomatoes were edible & sausage was bearable. Sad to say it was the worst breakfast we've had in there & never had much to leave a bad review before.

Hot, quick and lush. Garlic bread with cheese was 10/10

I usually love the roasting potatoes.. I didn't get any today as they looked terrible. The cabbage was mostly stalk..

Most of it was nice didn't like mushrooms or peas carrots and roast potatoes were hard rest was ok.

Ordered through Uber eats... I ordered the veggie carvery and the fudge cake and I couldn't eat either of them 🤢 so I've wasted £15 as the food is not nice The roasties were hard and overcooked, the mash potato is tasteless and the veggie gravy isn't good ☹️

No stuffing with any of the meals despite selecting this at the order stage. No mention of this when delivered as well.

As usual with Toby, a positive carvery deck. Pleasant food but most importantly the service was really attentive. Ben handled dietary requirements with a smile and is a credit to the team there.

Food was good, had as many plates filled as I could. Member of staff Archie made the experience as he was great service, though it was busy he was there when needed. Ensured we were knowledgable on how the carvery works in order for us to have the best experience. Although the beef was not impressive this visit Archie was very good at solving the issue by supplying a replacement of a different meat to ensure our meal was to standard. Excellent server would highly recommend to a friend

The new management seems committed to do everything they can to make this place less friendly and enjoyable than it used to be. Staff seem on edge and service has suffered as a result, the staff themselves are clearly blameless. Will likely not be coming back until this person moves on.

Paid £13 for basically a cold pot of mash as that was about 70% of the tub

Food was below par scrappy of cuts of meat with only 3 roast potatoes and one of those was black in the middle also had to make more gravy as wasnt enough

I often visit a toby carvery elsewhere . I visit a friend in Blyth and had a bad experience in a local eatery and suggested we try out a Tony carvery near to him . We were not disappointed and found the food and staff excellent

I really enjoyed the food. I had a bit of each of the 4 meats. Veg and roast spuds along with the Yorkshire pudding were great. Service was first class

I think it was roughly about this time a couple of years ago that I was out with the mothership for some breakfast at this very same venue, but this time we came for some lunch, Toby Carvery style. I’d booked a table for two for 1400 at the Shiremoor Toby Carvery a couple of days prior and after a very short wait we were shown to a nice table by a very pleasant blonde lady (I presume she was the gaffer?) over by the far window, as coincidence would have it, it was the very same table as we had the last time. After ordering in a couple of coffees, I gave the menu a final look over and then headed off to the plating/serving area for a selection of lunch items, my mother was already way ahead of me fully attacking what was out before anyone else could get a look-in. I decided to upgrade my carvery and go kingside for £1.99 extra resulting in my receiving a larger Yorkshire pudding and a couple of chipolata sausages. I asked for a bit of all the meats on offer, gammon, pork, turkey and beef and the carvery chef gladly obliged. I then added some various vegetables, stuffing, mac’n’cheese and gravy and the job was a good ‘un, plate loaded. Honestly, I couldn’t fault anything that was on my plate but my mother wasn’t happy as she’d mistaken a potato dish for parsnips, although this didn’t seem to stop her from going back for a generous second helping of vegetables? I think the waiting staff could tell my nerves were being tested by her antics and maintained a safe distance. I opted for a Cookie Dough Sundae for my dessert, I throughly enjoyed this and could probably have managed a second one. My mother didn’t bother ordering a pudding as she’d overdone it on the second helping of vegetables and admitted that she was throughly stuffed, bless her. I went and squared up the bill and for under £40 the pair of us ate very well, the food was ok, the restaurant itself was fine, although very busy with diners of all ages, the service friendly enough and satisfactory, so I’m more than happy enough to recommend the Shiremoor, Toby Carvery.

Absolute disgrace. Put in capitals in the notes no cauliflower cheese as we’re both allergic to cheese, first thing in the dinners was cauliflower cheese😂 the stuffing was burnt, beef full of fat and the full order went in the bin due to cross contamination. Disgraceful wouldn’t bother

Absolute 5star Christmas Dinner. We had 2 takeouts - Filled 2x10" plates and still had 6 containers of veg & potatoes left & Jug of gravy. Pudd & custard for afters but too full - had for tea later. Loads left over for picking next day :)

It was very busy when we went in so it took ages to get a vegetarian option. The food was lovely when we got it and the service improved greatly once the place had quietened down.

Delivery was absolutely terrible, driver put the wrong code in then he had no signal, he was standing at the door with the food for 10+ minutes, not knowing what to do, this was the worst delivery experience.

I waited over a hour for my food for it to arrive with items I had asked to be removed on it food was cold mash was lumpy only got have a tub of gravy the whole meal was awful will not be using again

We really enjoyed our meal at Toby Shiremoor, all the staff that we encountered were pleasant, Marley our main server was absolutely lovely with our little boy and gave great service. The food was so nice, probably the best Toby we've had, especially the roasties! We hadn't been to this one before but we were travelling and happened to pass this branch on our journey home so we were glad it turned out to be such a pleasant visit.

My disable friend was laughed at and discriminated against in the restaurant as colleagues of the restaurant stood in the kitchen doorway and laughed at her as she got her food at the counter. The guy with the red cap and the other with a beard and man bun were the main offenders. I’ve never felt so sick and angry. I took my friend home and returned to the restaurant to complain about the experience to the GM Alan. He said he would call me just after 3pm due to meetings in the morning but I’m still waiting at 5pm. I’m feeling even more disgusted that this situation is being ignored. I wanted to give the restaurant the opportunity to address the problem but obviously they aren’t taking discrimination against a disabled lady seriously. I will add this information on other channels due to the ignorance and disrespect shown in this situation. Appalled at the situation doesn’t come close. Alan obviously gave lip service, telling me he would speak to the staff and contact me back.

It was really busy with Christmas bookings but the staff were really attentive and quick to help. We had the carvery and a desert and both were very nice. Only criticism was the Yorkshire puddings were smaller than usual and the gravy seemed thinner than last time. Beef dripping roasties were excellent and the quantity and quality of the meat was very good. We'd booked a table in advancecwhich was wise this time of year.

What a disappointment was looking forward to a decent carvery big let down the food was terrible dry over cooked just dead I don't recommend this place the staff were nice only thing the place has going for it's self wouldn't be coming back here in a hurry 😡😡

this is the first time that I have a complaint. The beef was grizzly and I had to throw it away. But the rest of the meal was fine.

Nice, quiet meal in on a Monday afternoon. Food was okay, dumplings are a great seasonal addition. Our server Nikita was brilliant and deserves a lot of credit for her friendly demeanour and how she was with children. One of the better service experiences ive had in this restaurant.

I ordered 2 roast dinners when it eventually did turn up it was cold and that was the best part..the food was squashed into round containers and looked like something out of a slop bin it was impossible to separate the items from each other however i tried to put it on the plate in some sort of order, everything had to be reheated even the roast potatoes that i swear were cooked today about 12 oclock the gravy had no meat stock in it tasted like cheap gravy powder, could not eat the roast beef as it would have taken me til next week to chew it, it was full of fat and sinew this so called carvery cost me over £28.00 i estimate that we ate 15% of the dinner and the other 85% is going in the bin...see pics the food came in the round containers and what is left in them is going in the bin..this food is pig swill and i want a refund until i get one this review will be circlulated on local social media..I feel totally ripped off..somehow someone else's photos is coming up with mine the pictures of the dinners on the plates are not mine

not completely impressed. I ordered the starter pack, the roast potatoes were missing and I got 2 tubs of macaroni cheese. the custard was missing from the apple pie. won't be ordering again.

Ordered and delivered within 1 hour. Food arrived and only needed a brief spin in the microwave to bring back to piping hot, roast beef,turkey and pork and ample vegetables and roasties and Gravy, and 2 massive Yorkshire’s. Well worth the little extra cost for the convenience.

It's probably the worst toby carvery I've had so far. I've visited quite a few around the country. When I entered this afternoon at dinner time, I did question on a Sunday how we got seated straight away, and the place had barely any customers. The meat selection was better than normal as they had lamb beef turkey and others, which normally weren't available, so my hopes were high. The meat was delicious, both the lamb and the turkey. But then the gravy was watery but lumpy, the mac and cheese was burnt. The sausages were burnt. The mash had no flavour and wasn't the right texture, and the stuffing was like mush. Wouldn't return to this toby.
