Great atmosphere, friendly locals and great service.

Went on a weeknight evening with the Mrs and little one after work. I got the steak and onion sandwich. Looked lovely on the photo. When it came the steak was well done one side and rare on the other. Bread was partially toasted so was mainly floppy and soft. The onions were cooked somewhere between raw and ready for the bin. They were slimy and floppy. Then to top it off I actually ended up being sick at about 1am which I can only put down to the disgusting food. Updated 01.04.24 - this place has gone down hill significantly in the last year. Ordered 2 pizzas. Took nearly an hour eventhough the place was dead. Arrived extremely thin and slightly burnt. Even the little one didn't eat hers. Loads not in stock. Guinness, slimline tonic, pulled pork... wedge of lemon!!! Can't even get the basics right.

Sunday lunch late mother’s day meal! I have allergies anaphylaxis and I can’t say enough how amazing rob (chef) and mark (manager) was they are amazing and made sure they gave us the best experience anyone could have asked for especially in regards to my allergies! Highly recommended and we will definitely return! They even made sure I could have a dessert! Berry sobet it was beautiful and the chef even brought it out for me! This was our first visit to the Runhead, tempted by the £5 pizza offer. We weren't disappointed, the pizzas were lovely and amazing value. There is also an excellent selection of beers. We'll definitely be back.

Food was being handled by kitchen staff plating out food. Became aggressive when challenged. Would not recommend eating here.

Food was just ok I got a half price offer so bearing that in mind it was acceptable but would have been disappointed at full price. Toilets were really smelly and coffee machine out of order Staff were lovely and service was good

Went on Saturday with my son, ordered 2 burgers, and asked if we could have chips instead of fries the girl behind the bar told us that was OK. Had a pint of hazy Jane. It cost me £32.20. I asked the guy how much the burgers and drinks were ? On the menu they were £11. I was told we were charged £2 each extra for the chips. (which I wasn't told when ordering) The burger wasn't homemade it was frozen, there was no coleslaw, no side salad. Basic Not impressed.

Went to a band who were very mediocre but the worst thing was the terrible smell from bad drainage emanating from behind the bar it would put me off eating there. The other problem was that the band had to finish early for a boxing match so why put on the band in the first place. This pub is trying to be many things and failing at all. This pub used to be my local but due to 2 unpleasant lazy barmaids gassing and ignoring people waiting to be served I will not go back in there

Can't comment on food too much as only had drinks however ive been told the food is great it looked very good I will have to try it

Absolutely shocking service, we asked for the darts from Sinead (Duty Manager) after the Newcastle match tonight, and refused to give them to us due to 2 customers sitting next to us in the area. However, had she took the time to listen to what I had to say that the gentlemen were actually friends of ours and they also went to the bar and said to Sinead (Duty Manager) “we are about to leave it’s okay for them to play darts”. I then requested the darts, only to be told sternly by Sinead “no, you’ve been told no”. I find this very in appropriate and I was very disappointed with her manner and quite embarrassed as I was with my family and friends. I don’t think there was any need for a response like that, totally out of order.

Went for a special lunch ,my daughter is due to go into hospital and this was just getting together to talk etc ,the main disgraceful was the prawn cocktail !it was on a pudding plate one small whole lettuce leaf and some beige coloured liquid with hard small prawns poured over it !no tomatoes no brown bread instead of a nice rich mayonnaise over plump prawns I got something like cold prawn soup disgusting ,if a chef can’t make a decent prawn cocktail it’s very sad ,and it took ages for our main 40 mins not to be recommended ‼️

Had a prawn cocktail ,was disgusted ,never ever had a prawn cocktail that looked like that ,one piece of lettuce an like a soup with prawn in poured over no tomato just that dismal effort ,waited 45 mins before the next food came so by then we weren’t very happy ,we had got together before my daughter had to go into hospital but were totally let down !

Group of 20, some of the food was good but avoid the steak pie, pie crust was solid, vegetables were raw could not cut cauliflower at all , mash was watery and gravy was so thin. Apart from that it was an enjoyable evening

Great bar but at the moment it's baltic freezing in there ...get the heating fixed it's not enjoyable or nice whatsoever...paying customer's do not want to stay in freezing cold temperatures

It was very quiet when we visited, hence the 2 stars for the atmosphere. However, on the plus side the staff were attentive, pleasant and professional. The food was tasty and at a reasonable price. I would recommend it.

A bit modern for my particular taste but conveniently located, decent food and drink, very pleasant staff. Fantastic piped music when I visited, everything from 60s to the present, loved it, stayed way longer than I should 👍

Had a mix of small plates absolutely lush . The staff are friendly and helpful. A cosy atmosphere, it's great for kids loved biscoff cheesecake and apple crumble with ice cream. Highly recommend overall rating 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👌

Love this place They do amazing cauliflower cheese

Just been today and can honestly say that was a very disappointing sunday lunch the cut of beef was awful ,the server didnt ask if we enjoyed our meal thats the 2nd time ive been for a sunday lunch and been disappointed the veg was fine though hence the 2 stars

I was a little apprehensive returning here for food, some of the reviews weren't great and I also visited last year for Sunday lunch and was not impressed, but having recently moved back to the area so wanted to give it another go and I'm pleased I did. We ordered a variety of food, pizza,burgers,steaks, and fish, it was all delicious!! Good portions and the dirty fries with the burger..absolutely amazing. The kids demolished the pizzas and the steak came with the biggest chunky chips I've ever seen. I would've loved to have a pudding but literally could not move after my meal. The service was great, and the food was reasonably priced. It was exactly the pub grub I wanted. I think maybe a few more chefs would be better in the kitchen during busy weekend periods but that did not effect the quality of the food. We'll definitely return.

Tiny portion of steak pie,thin rock hard pastry and burnt steak filling.also had beef noodles which was overcooked and full of fat.will not return as service was also poor.

Booked a table but it wasn't ready. Server took my plate away when partner was still eating. Starters were fine but main Fish was overcooked and hard. Told server who ignored my comments, no apology.

Excellent Sunday lunch and great service

Good food, reasonably priced. Sunday Roast is the best! A variety on tap. And the staff a helpful and friendly.

Got to say the Sunday Lunch was the best we have ever had, 5 veg, very impressed was cooked perfectly, gravy was not thin & tasty, very nice helful staff, its nice dogs are allowed, only thing nowt drastic, but a dog entered & another barked very loudly, i nearly beep beeped my self, but really nice cosy place.

Food very good and plentiful again.....but...... Asked for 2 x extra gravy, got 1. Ordered cauli cheese, but it "fell off" order between till and kitchen. Waiting staff were not bothered. Was offered cauli cheese after food eaten. Not offered refund. I didnt pursue it. Not my style. Staff didnt seem keen to maximise the eating experience. The owner/mgr who was there last time, didnt appear to be there this time....maybe this was the reason?

Husband went to the bar for a drink. Member of staff didn’t even acknowledge him when he asked for a drink, she just started to pour. Still didn’t speak and just handed machine for him to tap his card. No please or thank you. How rude. I think this member of staff needs a bit of training on how to make customers feel welcome. We hadn’t been since before lockdown despite living a 5 minute walk away and after today’s shocking service, we’ve remembered why it’s been so long since our last visit. We won’t be returning. I’m not saying that all staff are like this but as this was the only one we encountered today then have to speak as we find.

Reasonable pub grub at a reasonable price

Clean pub with plenty of choice on the menu. However, charging 50p for a tiny thimble of gravy that probably cost 2p is atrocious. Not been back since and was a regular diner.

Lovely surprise stop! Called in unexpectedly for a meal with our family, 2 young children and a dog. Wasn’t expecting much as the reviews are so hit and miss however, there was a great choice on the menu - I was spoilt for choice for a change. Cooked fresh and served hot. Lovely waitress made a fuss of the dog too! Was absolutely delicious, we will be back as I can’t wait to try the other things on the menu as well.

Been 3 times and each time "not serving food". However all the staff seemed lovely and pub had a nice atmosphere to have a drink.

Just returned from having Sunday lunch at the Runhead and feeling fat as a frog. Disappointed that they had run out of the steak and ale pie as they had sold out the day before (obviously because they were probably delicious) but they offered a bangers and mash as an alternative that was not on the menu, Wow! What a brilliant bangers and mash Sunday dinner style, with Yorkshire pud and all the trimmings, the others had the chicken dinner and the gammon,the vegetables and extras were cooked beautifully, much appreciated. Many thanks to the staff for a fantastic day.

£3.70 for 330 ml bottle of Heineken Zero. Equivalent of £6.36 a pint. How can this be right? Not fair on designated driver.

Sunday lunch for mothers day. I have eaten a LOT of pub grub but this was great!!! Starters of potato skins were generous, not greasy and not too salty. Just slughtly crispy. PERFECT. Mums prawn tempura was equally as good with lovely sticky soy sauce. The mains were great. 2 good size pieces of tender pork loin with smooth mashed potato which had a great taste and not masked with butter and salt. It came with smooth turnip mash, parsnip and a massive, but light yorkie, and gravy. Mums roast beef portion was even larger but just as tender. The accompanying veg plate had cauliflower, broccoli, (both cooked until they were just soft enough), carrots and the BEST white cabbage ever. The pub lets the quality and taste of the ingredients shine through, instead of masking food with butter, cream and seasoning. If i lived closer, i would be here every sunday. And the toilets are immaculate too.

Staff friendly and very accomodating

Went in for a quick lunch. The place was about 1/3 full if that.First thing ordered wasnt available so changed it for grilled chicken meal and a vegetarian burger meal. Already pre warned by staff that they were a chef down and food would be a wait(only 2 member of staff running the whole bar and serving the food, clearing up etc as well). Sat on a table and heard a family behind very unhappy how long the food took (40 minutes). They then left telling is their food was poor. Ours came, vegetables burger missing the tomato salsa, just chock full of guacamole instead. Fries little and scrappy, the vegetables burger was 2 very thin cheap frozen vegetable pattys . The onion rings with the grilled chicken were so greasy and barely any onion in them. Was basically eating batter rings not onion rings. And mid meal two men who weren't in uniform opened a fire exit in the restaurant area and proceeded to very slowly bring a chair each in one at a time and walk the full length of the bar then go back and and bring another chair in and walk the full length of the bar over and over. All while leaving a fire exit open and freezing the dining area. Just a total lack of care of any customers. I've been a few times here over the years and the place just seems disorganised and like no one cares although the waitress was pleasant enough to talk to. I did hear staff say that management dont listen to anything they say. This place needs to change hands as people will not return, it's not exactly cheap , I would have got a better meal at mcdonalds for half the price.

Lovely welcoming atmosphere, child friendly. Not a huge menu to choose from on a Sunday but we wanted Sunday lunch anyway so that didn’t matter. Food was delish. Will definitely be there again!

Popped in for tea after work. Disappointed with the food as it was cold. We could see it standing under heat lamps for quite a while with other orders before it was brought to the table. The girl on the bar seemed to be standing around a lot of the time, so there didn't seem to be a justifiable reason as to why the orders stood for so long before being brought out. Very bog standard and the peas were missing from the order. We had already decided we couldn't be bothered to make a fuss, we just won't be hurrying back.

Enjoyed a family get together here and was really impressed. Great food and good value for money. Would recommend

Return visit and it did not disappoint I had a mushroom pizza and my husband had a chicken wrap. My husband said the wrap tasted very fresh, the onions and peppers were particularly delicious in it. My pizza looked amazing, red pepper, churney and basil included in the topping and it tasted just as good.

Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Runhead. Staff lovely and the meal was perfection. You won't find a better Sunday lunch anywhere. Beef and all veg cooked perfectly. 10 out 10.

I booked and paid to hire the tipi back on Easter Sunday this year to have my sons 1st birthday party Saturday just gone (17th September) that is 22 weeks in advance so ample time. They decided to let me know they can not accommodate my booking on the 13th September giving me 3 days to sort another venue.. i was told I wouldn’t beable to play music (it’s a kids party what we going to do sit in silence?!) or have my own buffet which this was all agreed when making the booking or have the entertainment I had booked (bouncy castle, ball pool, mini disco, face painter, ballon maker) the manager was aware of my plans for a bouncy castle he even showed me the grassed area I could have it on and was asked to get the insurance details of the company supplying the bouncy castle which I had all ready to show them before the party. I paid £495 in total for the kids entertainment which I lost out on £200 of it because the only venue I could find was tiny and couldn’t have everything I had originally booked (it was already all paid for which I have proof of this) I also had to find another venue at short notice which cost me an extra £150 and a great deal of stress & upset it took me hours ringing around places to eventually find elsewhere. I asked the lady I spoke to on the phone if they would reimburse me the money I have missed out on and she said absolutely not very sarcastically. The place is an absolute joke.

Had lunch today and it was beautiful! Good value for money, friendly staff, lovely and clean inside. We will definitely be back!

My husband granddaughter and I had lunch there today and the pizza I had was mushroom and red onion with marmalade, it was amazing. My husband had a pulled pork special today and he said his was delicious too. My 2 yearvold granddaughter said the ice cream was the best ever!

Love this place. Upbeat vibe, excellent food, good kids park and lovely outdoor seating area. Great selection of drinks/craft ales. Interiors are gorgeous too! Eaten here many times and the food is always top class 👌

seemed very disorganized and wait was rediculous. when food came it was like charcoal. I like scorched food but this was burned and chicken dried out. had food previously as gone for years and is up and down. need some consistency as locals will stop going. not good just now. hope it gets sorted as a good place to go!

Always great service here. One time went and wanted to watch the football outside but none of the screens were set up, a staff member took the time to wire one up for us even though there was just 2 of us out there to watch. Bar staff are always extremely friendly and food is always great. Occasionally during busier times food can take a little longer but is always to great standard, and I’d rather wait a little time and get fresh food! Only thing would be great to know when the tipee is open, I was once advised fridays and saturdays but seems to be sporadic. Is it a case of when it’s less busy it’s not open? Fine either way there’s plenty of under cover outdoor seating otherwise, might perhaps be something to advertise on your fb page when it is open, or closed for a private function :)

Always good however tables are usually sticky.Cant argue with prices. Very good outdoor seating and good management of flies.Little park in the premises to keep kids entertained. Toilets are regularly cleaned. Pool table sometimes in use which is always a bit of fun.

Stopped off for a drink when passing through the village. Clean pub and friendly staff at the bar. Car park onsite although its not huge. Pleanty of tables to choose from nice atmosphere.

Called in yesterday for tea , they have a new menu ( at last ) we always call in for drinks but this time we decided on food , We had the scotch egg with haggis , this was lovely and we ordered the chicken wings , these were pink and got sent back , we then ordered the spicy mixed sausage pizza with fresh chillies , this turned up with jalapeños on !!!!!! They are not fresh chillies , I think the malhotra group need to sort out a full extensive menu like the falcon at Prudhoe , This was my 2nd visit for food and from now on it’s only drinks .

Place looked great so had very high expectations. went for mother's day Sunday lunch waited almost an hour for lunch to come out and it was rotten all the veg was very under cooked and to only get 1 piece of each veg is shocking considering the price of it. You could buy additional veg at £2.00 per portion. Definitely would not go back for food . Nice setting for a drink in the sun
