I come here often and am very happy with the food, coffee, prices, and service! The pastries are delicious and I love that they have outside seating as well plus it's spacious and there is plenty of seating inside too. It's in a quieter area of Jesmond which is a plus so usually easy to find a seat. Definitely recommend! 😊

Called in on a crisp Autumn day for a warming mug of Hot Chocolate. Possibly the most expensive 'glass' of Hot Chocolate per millilitre that I have ever bought. £3.80 for a small glass, gone in only a few mouthfuls. Will never be back at these prices.

This used to be one of the best places around, unfortunately the service just got worse and worse and the food is basically nonexistent now. Coffee seems to have taken a nose dive in here lately from the best tasting nutty smooth coffee around to honestly a pretty awful can make myself better in the house kind of coffee. Nothing new for this shop or many places these days but very cold inside, not unusual for people to sit with hat and gloves and coats on inside absolutely not somewhere you want to spend more than 20 minutes thus the 1 star rating.

I’ll start by saying that some of the reviews here are complete BS. They serve the best coffee in the North East. Hands down. I’ve been going to Harvest for my coffee for a few years and I actively go out of my way to visit. They’ve turned me (in a good way) into a bit of a coffee snob. I just can’t find the depth or complexity of flavour anywhere else. If you’re looking for sugar laden coffee milkshakes, this isn’t Costa so you won’t find them. It’s not the cheapest but you’re paying for quality so that’s a good thing. I’d rather have one cup from OCC than 3 from Greggs. It’s clear the owners strive for quality and run their business ethically. I enjoy the coffee, the service is good and, if you ask, they’re extremely knowledgeable about all things coffee. They’re a super local business and I’ll continue to give them my custom for as long as they keep serving brilliant coffee.

Absolutely amazing tasting coffee BUT at £3.20 a cup and I use the word cup lightly its more like a quarter of a cup that you find yourself shaking to check that there's anything actually in it makes it very expensive. If you get a cappuccino here your cup is basically empty. At 50p a sip its amazing tasting but I wish it was an actual cup of coffee. The shop is freezing cold for the entire winter thus making me sit in the car instead too, if you want somewhere for friends / work to sit and chat bring a hat and scarf.. seriously

The most unwelcoming place i've ever been! Its seems confusing to me to have a coffee shop at the heart of the student hub of Jesmond and not want students to come and spend their money. The atmosphere was so unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. Staff asked us to move tables even though the whole place was empty and we were the only ones there. No wifi. It seems a shame that with so many beautiful coffee shops to chose from in Jesmond this one would rather be empty. I will not be returning nor would I recommend it to any of my friends. Alienating the majority of the population of Jesmond who are students and would otherwise a lucrative market of loyal customers is baffling.

I absolutely love the coffee here! I'm a bit of a coffee snob and I'd say it's probably the best coffee in Newcastle. However it loses one star for price, £3 for a flat white is a little steep, the cup is tiny! I get that flat whites are generally smaller but this was like literally 4 gulps and it was gone. Sadly I will never again give this place my business. I arrived at 2.45 today and got in a short queue having arranged to meet a friend there - at 2.50 we were told there would be no more coffee served - it days on the door they are open from 9 to 3pm. This place is a daily stop for me if I am in the area. Today like most days the coffee is always great. Normally I just go with a take out coffee but today I stayed in for a while. The reason is that the music was great, much better than the normal drab hipster music that normal drones on in the backround. At least today it encouraged me to take a seat for a few moments while I drank my coffee.

. . . . NO.

Having recently moved to Jesmond we are trying out all of the local eateries and we called into OCC to try a little Sunday brunch. There were at least four members of staff working and not one of them acknowledged our existence from walking in, finding our own seat, looking around for menus and sitting waiting for some assistance. We got up and left after a very long 10 minutes of wondering if we were invisible! There were a few customers in, all served so there was a 1 to 1 ratio of staff to customers. Pretentious, overpriced establishment and we will never go back. It is basic manners to acknowledge a customer coming through the door, especially when the place is virtually empty. Rubbish!

This cafe is cool, well located and is a good independent business. I like to support independents, but sadly I can't support this one. The food looks great, but the service is painfully slow, with two staff quite literally barking at customers in a stressful 'too busy to be polite' kind of way. I was one of eight customers in the cafe and one of two people standing at the counter. I ordered a one shot cappuccino and an americano. I politely mentioned that the last time I came the coffee was cold, so please could I have it hot. The barista said, 'we serve our coffee at sixty five degrees, so we step away from serving that sort of thing'. I wasn't sure what he meant, so he went on to explain that he wasn't prepared to burn the milk and he wouldn't be serving me a hot drink. I've no idea if my previous coffee was sixty five degrees, but it was too cool for me. It's a shame that the young man was so rude about all this. It's a shame that the young man thinks he knows best about what customers want. He could have offered me one of their other beverages, maybe one that he was prepared to serve at more than sixty five degrees, but he didn't. When I asked if I could pay, he told me he was too busy and that I could pay when I was finished. I thought he was joking, but politely took my seat and waited fifteen minutes for the americano to arrive for my friend. It looked like it was over the regulation sixty five degrees because it was steaming, but that must be because it was served black. Oh, that's the other thing, my friend has a dairy allergy, but Harvest Canteen won't serve non dairy alternatives such as almond milk because that will spoil the flavour of their coffee. When did it become acceptable for people to start telling customers how they should be drinking their coffee?

Ordering is done at the counter, as is paying, so it can get a little crowded, but all the food and coffee is made right there in front of you, with various selections of goodies in a glass cabinet at the front. Coffee - Really good. I do love the OCC Coffee, so shout out to these guys for using them. Local roastery in the Ouseburn. Well recommended. They also sell the beans / ground coffee in here, and my friend picked up a bag on our way out. I had a latte, which was lovely and creamy, but maybe not as hot as it could be. Like, perfect drinking temperature straight off the bat. Which just made me drink it super fast! Also tried a pot of Chai tea - which was actually a never ending pot of Chai tea! Food - Exactly what you would expect, good quality, hipster-like nibbles such as Avocado Smash and the like. Very brave of them to leave me the entire jar of nutella with my pancakes. Very brave. Price - Very reasonable for the quality of food!

We visited Harvest Canteen on a Saturday lunchtime just to have a coffee but decided to have our lunch there. It was very busy and we managed to get the last table. My husband ordered the bruschetta with proscuitto ham, fresh basil pesto, tomato and rocket and I ordered the avadado smash which was avacado, feta, lemon and watercress on a slice of toast. The taste of both of them was incredible, the flavours of both were amazing and I was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered a latte and my other half had a black coffee. My only complaint would be that the coffees weren't very big. On the way out we bought two bags of their freshly roasted coffee beans and I must say they were very nice.I would say that they need more tables - as we were about to leave a few people were hovering about waiting for us to go so they could grab our seats.I am looking forward to visiting again.

The coffee here is probably the best in town roasted by the Ouseburn Coffee Company who also had the bright idea of opening Harvest Canteen. The menu is small but they know what they're doing so if its some sort of poached egg/spinach/avocado combo you want for brunch then you're in the right place. There is also a daily soup and a range of salads plus some delicious home made cakes made on the premises. This is a relaxed place which is attracting folk who want to work on laptops and has the air of somewhere hipster and cool in Shoreditch which may not be to everyone's liking.

Hi as I like coffee decided to try this coffee shop got to admit I was disappointed the good point the coffee is very nice but the bad points let it down found the choice of sizes limited only 2 sizes offered the latte cup has no handle so ores for the larger size a bit expensive but didn't mind if I enjoyed it but I didn't as the large cups sent that big and when they came they were only warm not hot at all you could have drank them straight down but by the time you have a chat they were cold only talking minutes so would not use again can get better for the same if not less but as I said the coffee is nice

I went in for a coffee at 5:10 Monday 20th July. I ordered the drink and the first member of staff started to prepare it when a second one called over that they were closed. I pointed out that the board on the wall gave the times as "8-6", that the door was open, that several tables were occupied, and that indeed one member of staff had taken my order. The rude staff member made no effort! Bizarre really. I'm 61 and was well dressed so it was all rather nuts. So I can't review the coffee since the staff attitude was the worst I have ever experienced.

We only wanted a light brunch and coffee after arriving on an early flight - there were no eggs left at 10.30am so we ended up with a dry cold croissant with a slice of holey plastic cheese- supposedly emmental...yuk...To be fair the coffee was okay - and there was a dog's water bowl inside the door - anywhere with a dog friendly policy automatically gives a second star! It seemed like the staff did not really not want to be there. Pretentious, unappetising (and really uncomfortable seats) - ok for a quick coffee but nothing more.

The Harvest Canteen really knows about coffee and every time I go it has been good. This time I had some food, the Avocado Smash and it was delicious and well presented . The place itself is unpretentious and I felt I could sit there alone without having to hurry. I will be back !!

We've been drinking OCC coffee for a while and I had no idea they'd opened this canteen. I had my first visit last weekend and absolutely loved it. It was a sunny day, the decor of the canteen is gorgeous, cyclists were picking up their morning coffee and breakfast... It was coffee with a difference and was so nice to have something like this on our doorstep. The coffee is lovely. I always go for Latte and it was strong and full of flavour. I've read comments about the service and I think BlueMooo hits the nail on the head. The guys know all there is to know about the coffee and are always more than happy to fill you in. It is quieter service than your standard commercial chain, but it's not Starbucks, and I'm happy as long as I get a coffee and a good seat. I'd let the coffee, food and decor do the talking.

The only reason we keep coming back to this place time and time again is because of the amazing coffee. I can't get enough of the espresso. It's a real shame the staff can't muster up a smile or plesantry from time to time. It's as if they're almost too cool for school. I wish they'd keep in mind we are customers, and a bit of friendly customer service, even a smile would be appreciated. On this particular visit we decided to eat with friends, unfortunately the food isn't as great as the coffee. Eggs benedict was yum, granola-yum, but the portions? Tiny! The granola is served in a small tumbler and the eggs benedict super small too. We left hungry! If the items were cheap I could understand but the menu is so overpriced. I really hope HARVEST manages to turn things around ASAP. Staff and food need a reality check. Wake up and smell the coffee, your service and serving sizes suck!

I have visited this cafe quite often already and love the place. The coffee is the best I have ever had and the simple but elegantly offered food is perfect for an out and out coffee shop. The interior is clean and sophisticated. It is a very unique place for Newcastle. The comments about the staff on here I feel are misplaced. Ok, when they are busy (which seems to be more and more) they are less able to engage but this is just as a result of their popularity and evidence of more and more people understanding what this cafe is about.I've asked them a few times about the coffees and their origins and flavors and the answers I've received were very detailed and interesting.Do not visit if you expect this to be the same as every other cafe you have visited. These guys are trying something new and will obviously rub up some people the wrong way.

Manners don't cost a thing. It's been said before, service truly lets this cafe down. The coffee was good, not great; this is partly due to waiting up to 15 minutes for our drinks and partly because not one member of staff smiled. The visit was altogether unwelcoming and felt awkward as the guy in charge was rude, stormed around and carelessly delivered our food without so much as a word. The customer should not have to thank the server for slamming a plate down at the end of the table, after waiting 20 minutes and reminding twice for it to be delivered. If the staff can't cope with putting crumpets in a toaster and poaching eggs - employ competent kitchen staff. There is a lot I would like to say but I don't want to come across overly negative. We like the company, but unfortunately don't feel comfortable visiting again. Croissants delivered without butter, parts of orders being forgotten and late. No customer service. You are paying a premium to sit there and feel like a burden to a flustered set of staff who can not crack a smile for the life of them. I don't understand when it became cool and hip to ignore the customer and abandon not only good customer service, but manners in general. A simple apology or explanation, smile or any form of communication in general would have pacified us however we are left feeling the need to create an account just to leave a review, which I think speaks for itself. We'd like to note, that we have visited on multiple occasions and some have been better than others, but the poor customer interaction and service is a common theme. Maybe a hip, solemn vibe is the end goal and if so maybe this cafe just isn't for us.

After hearing about the great quality coffee at this place I was determined to seek it out and try some. I've been in quite a few coffee shops in Newcastle and the surrounding areas now but Harvest proved difficult to find, it's tucked away right at the back end of Jesmomd. The things I do for good coffee! After eventually finding the place myself and my friend placed our orders - an Americano each - no food - although what they had on offer did look very nice. We sat at the back of the cafe and I can't say I liked the layout and seating, it was mostly wooden benches, the place felt quite uncomfortable and it didn't have a great atmosphere either. After waiting a while we finally got our coffees, which were simply placed on our table by a rude member of staff, who didn't even speak as he put them down. That's right, he just put them on our table and walked off! My friend and I were gobsmacked. I know some places have a policy not to interrupt customers but this didn't seem like one of those instances. I think the guy was just rude, if the other reviews for this place are anything to go by. Anyway, on the positive side the coffee was good, very good, so full credit to them for that. It's definitely a step above what you get from Costa or Caffe Nero. Unfortunately though, the bad atmosphere and rude staff mean I won't be returning again, good coffee or not. I do hope they have a rethink and employ some friendlier staff in future.

I'm quite mixed about this place. I love the coffee. The food is pretty good but not as fantastic as I'd like. The room during winter is actually a little cold. I do like it but it's not yet a 5 star review.

An old style pub, gets crammed during special events at the Racecourse but quiet at other times. Could maybe do with a bit updating.

Unfortunately it's too small. Invariably, you can't get a seat/ table, especially in term time. Great location in the summer break. Food Nero standard (it is a Nero after all). Staff great. They do the best they can.

Normalmente no hago reseñas, pero sentí que esto es una necesidad. Ordenó la pila de desayuno, burrito de desayuno y un jugo de naranja fresco. Era irreal y valía cada centavo. Volveré enseguida.
