Toby Carvery in Newcastle upon Tyne

Very poor and disappointing food cold, burned potatoes, sickly uncheese sauce on mushrooms and didn’t get puddings, very poor value for money!

Usually love a Toby, but they fell short tonight! Veg and mash mustve been sat there for hours, roasties are black and like leather, and the pie was burnt. Not great

Service was absolutely terrible. Meat was just thrown on plate on the carvery deck. Man literally was just shouting at people standard/kingsize. Meat was full of gristle. Took about 8 attempts to even get waitress to come over to table to pay bill.

Good was freezing and we live 5 mins away. Good amount of food my partner enjoyed the pork. I had the veggie meal and asked for gravy. Both gravy tubs were the same and no markings to suggest a veggie one so I made by own. Yorkshire puddings were tough and rubbery and the cauliflower cheese was watery.

Best carvery around. Fabulous food every time. Never disappoints! And the promotions they run mean you always save money. What's not to love?!

Lovely pub, lovely atmosphere and received fantastic service from Kris. We always have great food here never disappointed plus the Yorkshires at this pub are just the best! Can't wait to return.

Bar server poured the wrong drink but soon corrected it with no issue. I later realised, when questioned suspiciously by the restaurant staff, that they had also forgotten to give me my cutlery. Restaurant staff just doing their Job, no worries. Then the food, Roast Beef Carvery. The carver was working 5x harder than anyone else in the establishment. Felt sorry for him really but he was very chirpy and seemed happy enough. The serving spoons for anything with starch in looked like they had a fortnights build up on the spoon - but nobody blinked an eyelid. I didn’t dare attempt the stuffing or mac and cheese! Another veg dish remained empty for the whole 15 minutes I queued - a potato dish possibly with gravy. The whole meal, beef, roast potatoes, green beans, carrots, cauliflower with an alleged cheese sauce, was tasteless and watery. I added mint sauce for flavour but this was lacking also. There are promotion stands on the tables for Parkdean Holidays - the competition expired over 3 weeks ago 🤷‍♀️. What a disappointing end to a hungry afternoon. I won’t be back.

Dry meat, very few veggie options (no turnips), burnt yorkies, portion sizes are also less compared to other Toby's. Not recommended.

Nice place for a roast! I LOVE coming to Toby with the family. The service is always great, and the food is spot on. Refills are a hit with the kids, especially the flavoured Pepsi Max. I've been for breakfast the last few weeks, and it's fab, with great value for money. The kids love coming on a weekend for the pancakes and syrup. All in all, it's a great place to come for all.

Absolutely disgusting no meat just fat cold food and when I complained they microwaved it

Dropped by Toby’s on a weekday evening and had a pretty good experience! Our server Sam got us seated and served our drinks quickly. It was quite late so not all the meats were available anymore, but the roast beef we had was well cooked and the Yorkie pudding is one of the best I’ve had. Seems a bit understaffed but the servers were def trying their best. Would come back again.

Would love to be able to rate the meat on the Carvery but 1 tiny slice of Beef and Pork each no thicker than a £1 coin. I wasn't really able to get a judgement. Felt that £9.99 for a plate of overcooked soggy veg, slivers of meat with 2 yorkies was a bit excessive. The bar staff was very friendly though.

Good food more than enough to fill you on the standard plate

Have had a lot of carvery meals there, but I have to say this will be my last, the meat carver was slicing the meat then putting the scraps on my plate, he should take a look at the plate picture on the menu as he clearly doesn’t want to give you any meat, Today was my last visit to this venue I should have said something when he gave me my plate but I’m saying it now and hope the manager has a word with this new individual.

Went on collecting a TGTG breakfast bag. That was ready by the time I arrived and was quich to serve. Friendly and helpful staff!

The majority of the food was inedible. Apart from being Luke warm on delivery, the mashed potato was lumpy and stodgy. The meat was stringy but the worst were the roast potatoes. They were like cutting into rubber. Worst meal delivery I've ever had. The one starbwas for the chocolate fudge cake that was actually nice. Never again.

Received the completely wrong order

Food was incredible but most importantly the staff here actually SEE people with disabilities especially people in wheelchairs. 10/10 service. Help was there when needed.

Took my parents to toby carvery kenton, atmosphere shocking no heating at 9am in, which leads me to the food absolutely freezing, not happy this place is going back, got my money back but apparently the food was warm enough apart from hash browns which were belowe the temp required, honestly high standards it does exist in this place, goto the wheatsheaf up the road towards the Newcastle airport much better, service grrat, foid always hot

OK so this was Easter Sunday and I know things would have been quite busy, so when I took my elderly Mum here for Sunday dinner I had already accepted what I have just acknowledged. However, that is where the good news stops; I'll just cut to the chase - IT WAS COLD AND I MEAN VERY COLD. Most of the things that had been on offer in the pots at the carvery servery were empty so I'm guessing they had been there for quite a long time but we persevered anyway. My Mum was really struggling with the cold food and lack of gravy (as the containers that were supposed to contain gravy were simply empty); eventually my Mum just gave up on her dinner. We did raise this with the staff when we asked to pay. Of course we heard staff asking other customers if their meals had been alright but I feel they were just being polite when they said yes fine - because they just weren't. Being honest the staff were really nice and we were offered some free puddings but declined (two bad courses won't make up for one dreadful main course). The manager Chris did adjust our bill to reflect our negative experience and being honest he seemed to listen to what we had to say - but honestly Toby Carvery - this is your business and it isn't rocket science. If your business relies on good food and hospitality, then at least make sure you have things available and at a temperature that could be described as fit for purpose. Looking back, if Environmental Health had checked those temperatures you may have had a bit of an issue. In addition to this, the website offer stated 25% off all (QUOTE ALL) mains up to 20th May 2025. This being the case, PLEASE then don't hide and exclude Sundays in the small print - at least have the decency to be up front about your offers - I felt it was deceptive at best! Looking back when I arrived home, I looked at the rest of the reviews for this carvery and I wish I had looked before I booked. I find it astonishing to find a LOT of other people stating their meals were cold. May be a great idea to sort this out and stop saying thank you to people for leaving honest reviews and actually do something about it. Disappointed Tim

Cold food, missing items and the mash tasted old and strange

Love the Toby Carvery! Great food and also a menu to choose from if you don’t fancy the carvery, my only advice is to either book ahead or stay clear if you’re planning on going on a Sunday. Too many people flood the carvery section, and the menu isn’t on on a Sunday

This was honestly the worst experience I have ever experienced. Waited over 10 minutes to be seated. Asked staff if I could seat myself on one of the numerous empty table to be told only a manager can seat people. However when we were eventually seated saw various staff seat people. Waited again for someone to serve us at the carvery and no apology for the wait. The food was below standard, it had clearly been sat out for a long time. The tables were poorly lighted and people sat around us were getting tired of waiting for the bill they had asked for 10 minutes prior. We looked at the puddings and chose what we wanted, but were then sat waiting for someone to take our order that we decided to skip in the end. Flagging someone down to give us the bill was another task, the lack of staff was shocking to the 6 tables that had people on. Then once someone was spotted it took them another 10 minutes to bring it over. This Toby has got to be the worst Toby I have ever visited and I honestly wished I stayed home and cooked a bloody roast myself.

Food was late. Main course was awful, no taste. Pudding asked for no custard, I got custard, this is the 3rd time this has happened. It will be a long time, before I order from you again. Very disappointed.

Very welcoming staff, especially Rachel who looked after us. The carvery was well presented with a great selection of meats and vegetables. The dessert menu is very good, 2 of my party had ice cream while I had the very tasty Bramley apple pie with custard. Rachel was very attentive without being overbearing. I could definitely recommend this place for small or large parties

Excellent meal. 3x carverys, all hot and fresh. 1x very fussy 9 year old who only wanted a cheese sandwich. All accomodated for with a smile. Ann served us and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks Ann.

Beautiful meal, however only have 4 star as the ladies toilets were disgusting, toilet roll on floor then another one hook on the wall, toilet moved when sat on and didn't look clean

This is one place my Mam's struck off our weekly list - she reckons the carvery was nearly cold. I had a salad so mine was cold anyway. The staff couldn't have cared if you were served or no. Would think twice about going back for certain.

We held a celebration of life for our friend Maureen, we had a private cordoned off area, staff were lovely - buffet by Tom was amazing, great quality & quantity… could not fault anything, well done Toby.

Food was cold and we’d ordered 3 portions of hash browns so we should’ve received 9 hash browns, we only received 4. Would’ve been nice to get a phone call if you didn’t have enough left to provide what I’d paid for

I ordered two large breakfasts on uber eats and they were mostly inedible the sausages were burnt and had a thick burnt layer on one side the hash browns were teeth smashing hard and we could only eat the centre the mushrooms were shrivelled and dry there was about one table spoon full of beans and tomatoes but the bacon was quite nice, I'm sorry but £17 for them disgusting meals is just not on never again
