Went here for Breakfast and the chef Jonny was very accomdating. Always coming and checking on the food levels on the counter. Making sure there was something there for everyone. His customer service is next level. Thank you for making our day a great one

Extremely busy , no one could work out why but it’s a good thing. Food was great Meat on offer in carvery , Turkey,Pork, Beef & Gammon. Great selection of vegetables to go with my choice . Andy the chef carved my selection of meats great jovial chap with a great sense of humour. Young lady who looked after was a real treat made our visit worth it. Will definitely be going back

Had a lovely carvery today and the staff behind the bar that served us, Caitlin and Chanelle were very helpful and friendly. The staff at the carvery, Andy and Liam did a phenomenal job especially as it was so hot for them. Beautiful food and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a carvery.

Greeted by the manager who escorted us to our table The restaurant was clean, and during our visit, the tables were cleared and cleaned quickly after use. The staff were pleasant and efficient. The food deck was clean, and the food was nicely cooked and presented. Our carvery meal was delicious. The restaurant is situated near Cardiff Airport, which is ideal for a pre-flight meal at a very reasonable price.

Had a later booking on the last evening of £6 offer and pay day so was a very busy evening. Couldn’t fault anything. We were seated quickly and were greeted by our waiter very shortly after. There was a little queue at the servers counter however this went quick. There was plenty of veg to choose from even for my picky children. And ample gravy and condiments. The food was of good quality and fresh. We didn’t stay for dessert due to the time however will definitely do so next time as there are lots of options I would like to try.

Gone extremely downhill since my last visit. The whole place needs a complete makeover , sticky tables , dirty upholstery , worn carpet , dirty windows , food is ok just big queues to get it , plenty of staff there wondering what to do , could do so much better I won’t be going back until things change.

Went here on a quick stop from Cardiff airport. It provided everything we needed, quick service, full belly’s and happy kids (they loved the make their own ice cream) we all had the carvery, the beef was stunning. Our server Caitlin Sharon was so good with our kids too she’s a credit to the pub.

Amazing value for money. Good food and excellent service. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I intend to make this a regular occurrence.

I’ve been going to this restaurant for many years now but I’ve never felt the need to write a review before! The past 3 visits have been made even more special because of a new member to your team, Jen. Although all the staff have always been incredible Jen is a special member of staff. Jen is really approachable and accommodating. She creates an amazing atmosphere within the restaurant by her dancing or even sometimes singing. She is incredible with our kids and other kids in the restaurant also. She is real a compliment to your business. Thank you Jen!

Absolute joke. Mothers day so thought I'd have a carvery takeaway rather than cooking. I've had takeaway a few times so know how it works. Or so I thought! As of today they've changed, you can no longer choose any of your food you have what your given I was told. Why? Didn't want cauli cheese I can't eat cheese. Didn't want mash, I just don't like it. If I'm paying exactly the same as dine in why?? I thought it would be busy as it was Mothers day but there was no one queuing so why couldn't I just go up? My son wanted mac & cheese but no you can't have that on takeaway. But if I'd like to pay for mac & cheese as a starter then he could have it. When my food eventually got to me, I could've done all 3 in half the time it took them. You will never get me in here again. My money will be spent elsewhere & I will be telling everyone I know of your stupid new policy

First time in the Cwm Kiddy for years after it was recommended by a family member. Visited on a Sunday lunchtime having booked. It was busy and staff were plentiful. After a short wait we were shown to the table. The server was very attentive. We were there for the carvery and we dived in. It was like carvery's of old - plenty of meat and helped ourselves to the veg etc. It was just great, the whole meal was tasty and satisfying. The guys at the meat counter were friendly and made sure we were happy with our lot. The table server was exceptional and rewarded with a large tip. Onto the cost; 6 of us (one of those a take out) had main courses, one of those being a 'large' serving. 2 x deserts all for under £100. It's represented superb value for money and we all agreed we'd be back there again soon.

From start to finish, everything was perfect. Food was boiling, tasty and more than enough for the price. The staff were very friendly and socialable. Hats off to the chefs as well, the food was lovely an brilliantly presented. Would highly recommend

We eat here on a regular basis and have always found the staff and food to be excellent. Today however 21 /02/24 was sadly not the best experience. We were here around 3 maybe 330 and were going to eat in the bar, but a lot of the tables had food and gravy on them and needed a clean. We ate un the restaurant and finished our drinks in the bar where still the tables were dirty. This really is unacceptable when there were 4 young ladies stood behind the bar just talking. I am quite shocked that this happened today because as I said I usually find this place excellent, maybe the management have either changed or day off. Having said this the food as always was lovely.

Best carvery i’ve had. Everything was excellent - table, service, food, excellent. Good quality meat, buttery mash, crunchy roast potatoes, karge Yorkshire puds and good selection of fresh veg. Gravy was fresh and tasty too. Tried the carvery in Whitchurch, Cardiff last month which wasn’t good at all. But clearly they make more effort in Rhoose.

We haven't been to the Toby Carvery since before Covid, as my 84 year old wife has had problems following two hip replacements. Previously, we would visit twice monthly. I booked a table for two on the website. When we arrived we walked through the bar area to where we always in the past waited to be shown to our table. Suddenley, a member of staff, who I presumed was the manager, came up to me in a stroppy manner, claiming that we hadn't registered at some table near the entrance which we weren't aware of. Obviously, this was all new to us. We weren't given the opportunity to explain that we were unaware of this change in procedure. He asked if we had booked. I answered "yes on the website". He could not see any evidence on their computer. I made a special effort to do this, as on the website it asked for any special requirements. I stated that my wife was vegetarian and because of her mobility problem, if we could have a table near the carvery. He said that all tables in the restaurant were booked, therefore we would have to eat in the bar, order and pay at the bar. I was very annoyed at his lack of empathy. We had a main course and a drink, didn't bother with desert and unusual for me, I left no tip! We will never return to this restaurant. The guy is an arshole!

The car very was not nice at all. All veg was hard. The roast potatoes were borderline raw. The beef had more fat in it than actual meat and there famous Yorkshire pudding were burnt to a crisp.

My partner and I visited today for a Sunday lunch. Ordered 2 pints of carling with our meals. Tastes absolutely awful like I was drinking a bottle of cleaning fluid. I told the waitress who was lovely and apologetic and said she’d check the barrel. I was annoyed we still had to pay full price for both drinks when they weren’t even finished matter of fact one was still full. We weren’t offered a fresh drink either

We were very happy with the Covid safety measures in place so decided to have the sharing platter. All cooked fresh, reasonably priced, & all throughly enjoyed. Went out had Sunday lunch as it was my wife’s birthday. The portions were very generous, both my daughters struggled to finish. Must admit you felt very safe in this new Covid world and the service was very good. What a difference from the last Carvery review I did, so would definitely recommend if you like a huge Sunday lunch.

Comedy of errors. Let’s get one thing straight from the start. I love a good Carvery - I love our local (this one)...so when I managed to book a place at 6pm on a Wednesday night hubby and I were really excited - I even sent him a screen shot to him this morning in anticipation of our first one since Lockdown- lovely. We were welcomed by the manager on a quite busy Wednesday night, and I enthusiastically said my name and she said no - you are not booked in for 6pm. Surely she made a mistake? She was right. - I had booked for next Wednesday. Doh! Therefore we were grateful when she said she could accommodate us. Lovely safety precautions, organised bar etc. observed and we were led through to our table, again, nicely spaced out. Our lovely server Rhiannon took drinks orders and clearly and kindly explained how the new system works. Unusually, hubby fancied something different to a Carvery, but as they were working on a restricted menu, he opted for a Royal British Turkey Club roll with salad. I of course headed to the Carvery pass where generous portions of meat and vegetables were plated up for me. And then hubby’s turned up. Now to be fair, I hadn’t taken much notice of what he ordered and we were famished but compared to mine...see pics. Hubby ate it and said it was a lovely moist hot turkey in his soft, fresh roll, fresh salad but not very filling. My Carvery was really tasty - turkey, beef, fresh veg and lashings of gravy. It is so good to have this so close - I loved it! Rhiannon checked on us and was really sweet with other customers around us and I said to hubby to order a pudding as he was a tad disappointed. And then we spotted it as we looked back through the menu if you look at the description of what he should have had it was all too clear there was quite a lot missing off the dish he ordered. The only thing on it was the turkey in the roll. As the manager was diligently cleaning a table near by I explained to her what happened, that I would be food blogging and that it wasn’t so much a complaint but wanted to let her know there may be an error of understanding to what was advertised on the menu. She couldn’t have apologised enough, explained it was an oversight by someone in the kitchen. I am happy to, on this occasion, accept they must be so all over the place with changes/ limited menu. She said did we speak to a server at the time and I accept that- no, hubby didn’t. Will it stop me going there? Absolutely not. Did I try and follow up with getting money back - no... we had a 50% off on the TOBY app. so we got such a cheap evening out. Just make sure you check what you ordered - onwards and upwards. I honestly expected a bit more in the way of safety . You can no longer help yourself to your choice from the buffet. But you can stand hovering over it pointing out what you want to the chef . who then has to serve you . Most of the time the chef isn’t there waiting for customers, he’s in the kitchen . so people are stood hovering over the food waiting for him to return . Really doesn’t make much sense. If you’re not going to put a plastic screen up there to protect the food and you are allowing people to stand next to it looking over it . Well you may as well let them serve them self and quickly move on As there is no protection there.Other than that the food was tasty and hot .

went for carvery lunch today, all the food looked like it had been re-heated and the potatoes and yorkshire pudding were too hard to eat. The meat is tasteless but you don't get much anyway, service was slow, I had to go get someone to pay the bill. Despite voicing my concerns about the food, it was refuted and ignored, obviously they don't care at all what the customers think about the food.

We ate here two nights in a row staying in the Travelodge next door. The service blew us away. We had never eaten at Toby before and couldn’t believe the quality of the service, we were immediately greeted and seated asked if we were familiar with the menu talked through it and then ordered our food, the table was attended to all evening checking in on us. Both nights we asked for milk and ice to take back to our room and were told to just pop the glasses back next day. They couldn’t do enough and could easily have refused to allow us to take their glasses to a hotel next door. Excellent service all around will definitely recommend

Food awful and very rude and unwelcoming staff ! First we asked to sit at a table and was refused by a very rude member of staff, who in fact give my mother a very rude look and rolled her eyes when we asked to sit there. Once the table was clean we sat at the table we wanted to sit at, and once again was looked at in a very rude way and a roll of the eyes. This experience made my family and I feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome at our local restaurant. Once sat down with our breakfast buffet, my first mouthful was full of egg shell, I stated this to the member of staff and she did not care and blamed it being on busy at the restaurant, when in fact it wasn’t very busy at all. In addition when my father went to get some bread and butter to go with his breakfast, he lifted the bread provide which was frozen !! He advised the same member of staff that greeted us and she once again rolled her eyes and told him “put it through the toast it will be fine!”. My dad advised he didn’t not want toast he wanted bread- she did not even offer to get him fresh non frozen bread. This is not a friendly or helpful restaurant. They are not willing to serve or help you, and do not care about the meal your having. We use to come to this restaurant regularly- very upsetting to think we had this experience! We will not be returning.

Generally a nice experience with very good food. Pleasant and polite staff too which helped the overall experience. However I had to ask for a fork to be replaced with a clean one as 3 of the 4 forks set out in the place settings had hard remnants of food on them. How can staff setting up a table miss something so obvious as dirty cutlery? It wasn’t all that busy and many tables/areas were empty & it’s not like staff were rushed off their feet. I’ve noticed in several other reviews on here comments about dirty/gritty plates etc. It has made me think about the hygiene in this place....... it was a shame as otherwise I’d have given a 5 star review because the food was very good & hot and tasty. (Note to any staff replies; please don’t use copy & paste as you have in a large number of your other replies to critical reviews. They’re obviously insincere and might just as well not be typed.)

Had a carvery on thursday evening. THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. Then a unlimited Breakfast on fri and sat morning again excellent. Fri evening just went and had a pudding,again lovely. The staff at every meal where exceptional, Professional, polite and cheerful. A shame that its so far from North Wales

Visited here today and had a problem with my voucher. The staff were extremely helpful and sorted it out for me. I then spilt my drink on the bar(sorry) and they replaced it without me asking and without charging me. The staff were All very polite friendly and helpful and the food was tasty and hot. Excellent customer service....thank you and well done.

It was very busy, but luckily i booked a table in advance. Santa was there so there was a lot of children there. The breakfast was excellent value for money. For just under £5 you can have all you can eat breakfast not including drink. It was very tasty you can have full English,with toast. Hash Brown's were lovely and crispy lovely bacon. Carvery good, lots of choice, freshly cooked. Our boys loved the extra Yorkshire puddings. Staff very friendly and keen to go the extra mile. Lovely. Only tip, avoid the lime flavoured pepsi, tastes like kitchen cleaner!

Called in for what I thought would be a lovely cooked meal. Where do I start beef you could use as new soles for your shoes, to be fair pork was lovely beef roast potatoes were rock hard not crispy veg was dried up. A new dish of stuffing was brought out and it was stone cold as if brought out of a fridge not an oven in all fairness to the meat server had oven gloves on so would not have felt it freezing cold.My husband and myself could not eat hardly any of it. I asked for a pot of tea it was so week I couldn't drink it and didn't have an hour to spare to let it brew.Have been to several Toby's for food never had such a terrible meal.No I didn't complain to the duty manager just wanted to get home after a long day. Will stick with my regular Carmarthen carvery.

Went there for any early evening meal. Staff were friendly, although the decor was scruffy and dated. Ordered our drinks and turned up very quickly. Whilst we were waiting for our drinks we all noticed the large number of flies in the room. Once the drinks arrived we were told too go to the carvery for our meals. Whilst waiting in the queue we all saw the large number of flies on the meat. There was no way after what we saw waiting to be served we would ever eat there. It's was disgusting. We all agreed to leave without eating. Avoid at all cost. Contacting local council to report matter. We explain to the lady serving us why we were leaving, and she just said" yes it's full of flies today".

Went for breakfast today, standards are slipping. Went in at opening time, 8am. Half of the breakfast menu wasn’t cooked until 8.40. One of our friends couldn’t come for breakfast so we asked for a takeaway breakfast. Apparently they only do takeaway carvery but not breakfast. Toast machine still left bread as “bread” tried putting it through a second time and it came out black. Attention to detail not present here any more

Had A Carvary OnThe Wed 21ST ! Ive Had A Lot In This Place Over the years.the meat had been cut on a bacon slicer and was so thin it was stook to the plate! Worst meal Ive ever had.

Most unaccomodating pub I’ve ever been to. We got there at 9pm on the dot after returning from holiday. We got a taxi specially there (£7each way). The manager said they had stopped serving and didn’t even offer anything left over from the carvery that we would have gladly paid for after a long journey. (We even saw one of the waitresses eating left over Yorkshire puddings). The children were really hungry and I just found the attitude really poor. Very very unfriendly and didn’t even try to help! Manager was particularly unhelpful and unfriendly. Would not recommend this place.

Arrive at this carvery at 645 on a Sunday evening. We are told by a somewhat brusque and casual manager there are no seats in the restaurant and it will be a half and hour to 40 minute wait but that we can eat in the bar. So we find a table in the bar. My wife then goes to pay for food in advance in the bar only to be told we cannot do this. Having queried this again they admit they are running out of meat and that there are no more carvery meals available. Dozens of people are still eating. They also have a fancy board outside telling customers tp download an app to get money off meals which we did! Very poor from a carvery we have used before without a problem. It may be high season but its called a carvery for a reason and very disappointed with the poor attitude and service. We wasted time when they should obviously have had a closed sign up on that facility...or perhaps have kept up with demand.

We are regular customers of this restaurant. Every week sometimes twice. Our meal last Monday was awful to say the least. Meat was as usual very good but, Poor, poor quality of vegetables, limited choice, roast potatoes were baked or roasted so much you couldn't get knife into them. Sweetcorn, peas,red cabbage, and dried mash with gravy? Strange mixture of veg to have on traditional roast dinner. Who thinks up these menus? It will be a while before we visit again. We'll wait for winter menu to start again then at least we'll get a traditional roast dinner. On a positive note the manager Kirsty and staff are excellent, they tend to customers very well.

First off I don't like a carvery so probably should not have visited this place, but I ordered a Ploughmans thinking you can't go too far wrong with bread and cheese.....wrong.

Arrived 12:45, to find a busy restaurant and overheard some people complaining, yet, what else to expect at such a time on a Sunday, besides, we took that to be a good sign. Usual choices, but with the addition of Lamb, good choice of veg, nicely cooked and as ever Toby prices. OK nothing fancy but for a decent meal and good friendly service, we'd go back

I visited this carvery today with a party of 18 which was pre-booked. We were seated together and on-time. Our waitress (Sophie) was very pleasant and helpful and ably coped with all our orders. There was plenty of choice at the carvery, and the food was hot. Those that had starters and desserts, were not disappointed. We did not feel rushed in any way, which enabled us to enjoy our food and drink. Thank you for accommodating our group.

This was my first time visit to this Carvery I found the staff helpful and courteous. The Venue felt and looked little tired and the servery was smaller than most that I have seen when calling at a TOBY Restaurant. However the service was good and the food plentiful and hot. For me the crackle was just a little dry and hard and the cauliflower overcooked the Pigs in Blankets over rated!.

Four of us were staying nearby and this Toby was very convenient on our way back from Cardiff. We did not have a booking but we were met and quickly seated. The carvery was fairly busy but the staff were managing to keep up with the demand. The vegetables were constantly being replaced and the usual range was available. The meats all seemed good but three of us had the turkey and one chose gammon and turkey. We were all satisfied with our meal and once again Toby gave us what we wanted at a reasonable price.

Great Sunday lunch here and staff are excellent. One thing though the outdoor seating area is dire. Full of over flowing ashtrays and furniture past its best. Gives a really bad impression on your way in.It's not just smokers who want to sit outside. Shouldn't you have a smoking shelter around the back for them?. Windows open and outdoor smokers are not a good combination.

I visited the Venue a week ago tonight with 6 friends. Unfortunately when I was getting my carvery a dish was dropped onto the hot plate and the whole of my front was splashed with hot gravy. Accidents happen and an apology was made by the guy who did it saying he would mention it to the manager and pay for my jumper to be cleaned.

You know what to expect at a Toby Carvery, the reason for this review, however, is to mention the waiting staff. They were all very young but were great with our group of 10 aged 6 to 52. Nothing was too much trouble.

We come here so often I’ve completed the Toby Carvery app twice we bring the kids here a lot and when I was pregnant I ate here all the time (an addiction to the roast potatoes) they have a constant rotation of the vegetables so they’re not left to go soggy and flat. Lamb, Turkey, Gammon or Beef, three types of potato, greens, carrots, onions, stuffing is all available. The staff here are LOVELY the chefs always smiling behind those giant meat joints must be so hot it’s boiling back there so I take my hat off to you! The waitress staff always smiling and helpful so if you need any special assistance they’re always there to help. The puddings are great here too!

This place always has a nice carvery and is usually busy when we go there.

I came in for breakfast and was greated by a lovely young lady behind the bar with a big smile on her face. The food was fresh and cooked perfectly to my taste. I’d never been to a Toby breakfast before but the waitress Kaitlyn I think, behind the bar was very helpful and was able to explain the system and was energetic despite the time of morning it was. Thank you for a lovely morning.

Me and my partner come here every Sunday more or less, we come from Cardiff and if we miss it I actually feel sad Haha.

Arrived at 6.00pm on a Friday evening, having booked a table - we were seated in a corridor, the food was luke warm and ‘mushy’ - the meat was cooked well, the waitress started clearing our plates whilst one of us was still eating despite my objection. Not a good experience and one I would be reluctant to repeat.

Had a couple of drinks and carvery dinners while staying at the Travelodge next door before flying out of Cardiff. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent.

Lovely Calvary love the mint gravy, friendly service, great atmosphere. Reasonably pricef. This was my first time here will definitely be going again.

I have eaten here for breakfast on a number of occasions when visiting my dad in Barry. The carvery is OK but the breakfasts have gone down hill over the past 6 months. The breakfast is self serve and is normally quite a spread but on the last occasion on January this year the breakfast hash was missing.

We went in this place for a drink before we could check in at the travellodge next door what an absolutely disgusting filthy place who ever does the cleaning needs sacking bottom of chairs and tables you could write your name in the dust and don't lift the sofa cushions up as you will see baby's nappy under there and it looks like they have been hoovered under for a very long time.we was going to eat there but after seeing how dirty the place was and plates and glasses all over the tables and left over food on chairs.and tables we decided to eat else where and I am glad we did we will not be returning there again but would return to the travellodge next door.

I was sent loads of emails giving 40% off mains up to the 13th of January BUT they said it was a miss print so refused to except the voucher this happened on most of the tables there and people were very upset.

At a car very pub you get what you expect, it’s only the service that makes a difference- this time it did for the better. Lovely waitress and a good lunch!

Family get together pre Christmas and very poor service with uncomfortable seating. Veg choice was poor and some had clearly been on the servery far too long. Deserts were supposed to be served with coffee but coffee was either drunk or cold before accompanying puddings arrived. Would have been nice if the coffees had been on free refills particularly as the puddings were so late. Awful!

cheap and cheerful and close to the hotel pretty standard but you always know what your getting with a Toby Carvery

Came for a nice roast dinner however the tables and menus were sticky and there was leftover gravy on them. The toilet floors were sticky and there were flies all over the food. However the women that served us was very friendly and helpful and the drinks were lovely.

Every once in a while we have go to a Toby mainly because it’s straight forward and can eat quickly and get out. We felt this restaurant was not great though. We went on Halloween and obviously did not have enough kitchen staff to get the food served. The gentleman working behind the counter did his best in the circumstances but was not fair to him due to the volume of customers and felt the food was not great with several vegetables missing as he could not produce quick enough. Waitress was very friendly and came across well, but it was not the best experience on this time and will probably not return to this outlet.
