Good food but expensive on a sunday

Very relaxed atmosphere all staff very helpful.

We love the brekky and roast here. Recommend you book on line, we have the app. Receive great offers, including birthday treats. Staff greet with smile, service very helpful and attentive. Food self service if carvery or brekky. Visited for 30 years plus. Free parking, toilets, great for all ages even wheelchair friendly. Just ask if you need assistance. Even great takeaway also if required. Think of loved ones stuck at home :).

Good roast excellent meat. But mac and cheese with a roast??

Enjoyed a mid week lunch here with my wife. The carvery was excellent as expected with plenty of choice if well cooked food. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good value for great food. This was mid-week and there was plenty of parking. Highly recommended! Thankyou

Nice, fresh and clean after a refurbishment. Good food as always, at a fair price. Drinks expensive, which is a shame. Delightful staff who provide great service.

We came to eat as a rather large group ( 24) For our annual slimming world Christmas lunch. The staff were amazing. The gentleman who orginal took our booking was very helpful and happily added a couple more people on. The lady who took our order and served our food was brilliant even with people changing their mind from the two course to the three course lunch!! And then smiling even when another two people wanted to order starters! We had a really fantastic meal. All food served at the same time. Not too long await at the carvery. Vegetarian food was well received, and the desserts looked pretty yummy! Great atmosphere and a lovely time was had by us all. I was volunteered to book the meal this year but with the fantastic organisation of the restaurant staff I feel happy to take on the role next year. That said, i will be in before then,as a family we love to eat at the toby Northbourne 😋

Great food and venue. Tidy and clean. Not sure about dogs in restaurants but seems more common presently.

The Staff were super friendly and the food was superb, if anything the interior could do with updating and maybe new tables and chairs

So disappointed, both my partner and I chose the same size meal, however we both chose beef :P which was delicious, BUT had served far more beef than I. The veg was so disappointing, the toasties were soft (no crisp); I was so looking forward to the beef dripping pots :( the other vegs were barely warm even when coated with gravy 😢 such a shame. My partner, whose beef was delicious was ruined by the English mustard, which was NOT Colemans and totally ruined it, unable to eat it, he wrapped it in napkins, took it home, rinsed it under hot was n gave it to the dog, ..... she loved it !

Long due refurbishment looks really good. Feels much cleaner and fresher. Food good standard and good portion new sage spuds are nice. Did prefer the beef dripping. Carver very friendly and good with the kids. Hats off to him. Service however very lacking. Was shown a table and given our drinks. That was it the waitress seemed to be just looking after the regulars and everyone else suffered. Wasn't busy. No check back. Sat with dirty plates had to ask for bill so no puds. Could of quite easily strolled out the door dont think she would have noticed. I'm not that guy though

We had a big table for breakfast with Santa just before Christmas. The service was great, lovely food and Santa made the kids day.

Josh greeted us upon arrival and was very pleasant and welcoming. He was also our waiter for the visit. Rob the chief was very nice and polite. Chatty and friendly. Food was excellent.

Went to the Carvery for a Santa Breakfast. Family had a great time, we made the most of the refillable tea and coffee. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hash browns were crispy and delicious! Great selection for breakfast.

I have to say brilliant breakfast lovely and hot the russian manger was rude me and my friend were waiting at the Pepsi machine waiting for the bartender to change the Pepsi and I get asked what are you doing so I said waiting for the Pepsi but Dermott the bartender was brilliant very well spoken and made sure we had a good visit lovely lad

Had a really nice meal from there went in early for a breakfast. Bartender was friendly and happy to help however the only reason I can't give 5 stars is the manager was rude to me and my friends while we were near the Pepsi machine as when we were waiting for the bartender to change the Pepsi which the manager was aware of and the manager said what are you waiting for and it made me and my freind uncomfortable!

Came to eat lunch here on weds 18th dec at 1.30pm...my family and i were served by the friendly manager john and his nice friendly staff .

For our 1st time breakfast experience it was not very good, and we will not visit again. We will have breakfast at home.

Been coming here for years but havnt been in couple of years, the food was absolutely bland and the gravy was tasteless dish water was so thin was literally like pouring water over a roast, the potatoes was whiter then white and very hard as you can see in the photo, meat was ok but very very thin, was thiner then packet meat brought from a super market, thanks but will not be attending any toby carvery again

A mix-up over table size( my mistake) on a very busy night, was quickly and very politely dealt with by the manager, and our server, Martin was very friendly. Queues for food were very long and food only just warm. The meats were well_cooked but vegetables were uninspiring, either very hard or claggy. It was a Christmas outing, so probably queues may not usually be that long.

I did ask the chef for some extra meat and he unfortunately totally ignored my request. I have visited on many occasions over the last 30+ years and they are very reluctant to give you extra meat

An excellent carvery but had to avoid the turkey which the server was cutting from a tiny chunk no bigger than my fist. The problem was customers were getting a couple of small pieces plus a few crumbs which should not be given to customers. Nobody wants wastage but customers do expect actual slices of turkey.

We live in Hamworthy and we have a local Toby at fleets bridge but the food is so much better at northbourne Toby and we think it's worth the 30 minutes of driving for the quality you get .

We arrived at correct time, whilst waiting in a long queue we received a message that our table would be given away in 10 minutes.When greeted the gentleman obviously was a bit stressed by the amount people in the queue by the way he spoke polite but a bit blunt and said there were no tables available in the restaurant area but their was one table left in the bar area. By that time we must have passed the 10 minute deadline, if i book a table i would want a table in the restaurant not the bar area where everybody was coming through the door into the premises. Now wether you over book just in case of "no shows" i don't know or the queue was large just from people walking in hoping for a table i don't know. All in all a very poor visit and will i visit again or recommend ..... i don't think so. needless to say we left without eating. you asked for a review and i've been honest with it.

Cannot give a genuine score as we booked a table for 4.50 in a thursday for 3 of us but there were no parking spaces at all!! 🤬 Come on Toby, extend your car park to cater for all your customers

Really lovely roast dinner 50% off deal. Could not fault it, food was hot, fresh and perfect. Staff worked very hard. Will go again!

On holiday in Bournemouth and went for a lovely carvery. Staff were lovely and very chatty and helpful.

Food was fantastic. Piping hot and very tasty. You will be hard pressed to improve on it.

We went here on Sunday night and I wanted to write a review purely because of Jack the chef on the carvery counter. He was so happy and helpful and friendly and made our experience much better so I think he deserves to know his attitude makes a real difference to the place, many thanks for giving us such a nice night 😊

Typical Toby carvery, reasonable prices, and large portions, veg can be a little dry at times. Very polite staff.

We come multiple times a week and absolutely love it here.

10/10 service. Man behind the bar greeting everyone is very kind. Always asks how we are and if we enjoyed our breakfast. Asked politely if we’d mind doing a review and this has to be the first time ever I’ve been more than happy to. Quality of food for price is very very good. Not like your quick hotel breakfast buffet with fake bacon and chipolate sausages that everyone’s disappointed with. Will return time and time again!

Great bar staff, he always has a smile for me. (Multi-colored hair and piercings) I have an unusual soft drink as I'm in recovery, and he doesn't point out the fact and just does it without making me feel conscious about it. The carver was friendly too at this one. Having a laugh and a joke with us as we are new to the area. Beautiful food too, which is why this is now pur go to Toby in Bournemouth.

The staff were very friendly - Mags was excellent (always is) and the guy carving the meat is very organised and always chats to you. By far THE best Toby Carvery locally, probably nationally.

Collected a take away. Vegetables were thrown all together and on top of each other and meat was a tiny portion. Waste of money.

We popped in on the off chance of a place being available. We were offered a bar table. The gent who advised us (wearing a Hawaiian style top) was polite, professional and an asset to the company. We had to do self-service and order at the bar. The young bar man that served us was polite, professional and funny and made us feel welcomed. The food was good as! usual. Whilst eating our food we could hear the 'front of house' man doing his thing with waiting customers. His bedside manor is excellent and made all feel valued and important.

The food was excellent, the prices however I thought were too expensive

Manager rude short tempered would not give me free dessert even though it was included main meal was wrong which I had to pay extra for it to be resolved. Rushed by manager telling me he needed table in 15 minutes felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Do not recommend going when European speaking manager is on

Nice clean Toby Carvery. Staff are helpful and polite. Food is great. Doesn't seem to get as manic as Fleetsbridge which is nice if you want something a little quieter.

The waitress Gilly was particularly brilliant! Great and efficient service as well as having us in giggles! Really made our night!

Who doesn't love a roast. Always delivers excellent food at a good price.

I was a little disappointed on this visit. The food was plentiful but lacked flavour. The cauliflower cheese was watery and both that and the macaroni cheese had little flavour. The roast potatoes looked crispy but weren't and the carrots had no flavour. We are vegetarian so I can't comment on the meat. I have eaten here before, albeit a very long time ago, and it always lived up to expectations until now. The servers seemed to spend more time chatting to each other than anything else. We were shown to a table by one girl, told she would be back in a minute and then ignored despite requesting drinks. Then the very lovely Anne stepped in and couldn't have been more helpful. It was busy so clearly popular, however, I will choose a different Toby Carvery for my next visit.

I like this Toby better than the one closer to me. The staff are excellent.

Unfortunately, I've had to update my previous high rating. Booked for breakfast at 8am and get to the restaurant to find that they're not serving breakfast until 9am and my booking was irrelevant because they cancelled it at 7am when they weren't open, not impressed.

There was a special offer on for a £6 carvery, so we booked a table and arrived to find it very busy but no problem being welcomed and seated immediately. There was no queue for the carvery. The meats were cooked perfectly and there was a good selection of vegetables to accompany them. The toast potatoes unfortunately tasted like they were reheated but that was the only let down. The soft drinks were refillable too.

Warm welcome from the front of house followed by exceptional service from Gilly who was our server, Gilly was fantastic and a wonderful asset to Toby. Great roast dinner and again great service from the two Gents on the carvery.

Comida encantadora con amigos , la comida era encantador agradable ver cordero en el menú un sábado por la noche, muy emocionado por eso. Todos disfrutamos de nuestra comida, la camarera nos preguntó si queríamos budines, amigo preguntó si podía esperar un poco por favor. En el que la camarera volvió, amigo dijo que no gracias. A los pocos minutos la factura volvió, dije que tienes prisa ya que nos gustaría más bebidas. Nuestra comida fue el sábado 21 calle Septiembre 2024 , para 19 . 00 pm, estaba cómodo allí y no demasiado ocupado, nadie estaba esperando. La puerta trasera estaba abierta, y algunas damas salieron a vapear, olía asqueroso. No me impresionó en absoluto. Si la gente fuma, sería bueno, si más lejos para un no fumador. Aparte de eso la comida era encantadora.

Very disappointed! Carvery was cold, potatoes hard to cut, some veggies a little dried up and very small portions of meat. Requested a seat by the window, request not noted, so asked to be reseated. Staff were very friendly and attentive, the pub was quiet, so they had time for us. It was not explained how getting the carvery worked. We have always had good meals at Northbourne but will not return again ....a great shame.

Visitamos alrededor del 19 : 30 . Había unos pocos clientes todavía comiendo, pero no se veía personal. Alguien tardó un poco en vernos. Nuestro pedido fue tomado, chef y carvery eran excelentes. Pero cuando estábamos llegando al final de nuestra comida, justo terminando nuestro vino, la camarera gritó al otro lado de la habitación y dijo “¿quieres tu cuenta?”. Nos sorprendimos de sus eclipses pero estuvimos de acuerdo. Lo trajo en un plato, lo tiró sobre la mesa y dijo “quieren cobrar”. Dije que aún era temprano y que era un pub. ¡No estaba de acuerdo y dijo que era un restaurante! ¡Qué tuvo que ver eso, no sé! ¡Entonces empezaron a aspirar a nuestro alrededor! ¡Qué grosero! No nos dijeron nada cuando nos fuimos; sentimos como si hubiéramos sido un inconveniente.

Brilliant meal, nicely cooked. Went at 4.00pm on Wednesday, not too crowded. Attentive and pleasant waitress service, very pleased with whole experience. Intend to go again soon.

Food and service are always great. Bonus that this Toby is dog friendly in the bar area! our dog is always welcomed by the staff here who treat him to a sausage or two

Good meal & puddings served from here, the downside was service was very slow from our server. He was very friendly, but was some half hour between finishing the main course to ordering desserts, and again waiting for the bill & paying. The restaurant didn't seem over busy, but I do wonder if his colleagues left him to do everything & serve everyone else. The carver was friendly & helpful and gave good portions of meat
