The waitress Gilly was particularly brilliant! Great and efficient service as well as having us in giggles! Really made our night!

Who doesn't love a roast. Always delivers excellent food at a good price.

I was a little disappointed on this visit. The food was plentiful but lacked flavour. The cauliflower cheese was watery and both that and the macaroni cheese had little flavour. The roast potatoes looked crispy but weren't and the carrots had no flavour. We are vegetarian so I can't comment on the meat. I have eaten here before, albeit a very long time ago, and it always lived up to expectations until now. The servers seemed to spend more time chatting to each other than anything else. We were shown to a table by one girl, told she would be back in a minute and then ignored despite requesting drinks. Then the very lovely Anne stepped in and couldn't have been more helpful. It was busy so clearly popular, however, I will choose a different Toby Carvery for my next visit.

Booked a table 6.20 got there at 6.15 was sat in que till 6.35 np where near the front

Food was fantastic. Piping hot and very tasty. You will be hard pressed to improve on it.

I like this Toby better than the one closer to me. The staff are excellent.

Unfortunately, I've had to update my previous high rating. Booked for breakfast at 8am and get to the restaurant to find that they're not serving breakfast until 9am and my booking was irrelevant because they cancelled it at 7am when they weren't open, not impressed.

There was a special offer on for a £6 carvery, so we booked a table and arrived to find it very busy but no problem being welcomed and seated immediately. There was no queue for the carvery. The meats were cooked perfectly and there was a good selection of vegetables to accompany them. The toast potatoes unfortunately tasted like they were reheated but that was the only let down. The soft drinks were refillable too.

Warm welcome from the front of house followed by exceptional service from Gilly who was our server, Gilly was fantastic and a wonderful asset to Toby. Great roast dinner and again great service from the two Gents on the carvery.

We live in Hamworthy and we have a local Toby at fleets bridge but the food is so much better at northbourne Toby and we think it's worth the 30 minutes of driving for the quality you get .

Lovely meal with friends , food was lovely nice to see lamb on the menu on a Saturday evening, very excited about that. We all enjoyed our meal , the waitress asked if we wanted puddings , friend asked could she wait a bit please . In which the waitress came back , friend said no thank you. Within a few minutes the bill came back, I said are you in a hurry as we would like more drinks . Our meal was Saturday 21st September 2024, for 19.00pm, was comfortable in there and not too busy , no one was waiting . The back door was open, and some ladies went out to vape, it smelt disgusting . I was not impressed at all. If people smoke would it be nice , if further away for a non smoker . Apart from that the meal was lovely .

Very disappointed! Carvery was cold, potatoes hard to cut, some veggies a little dried up and very small portions of meat. Requested a seat by the window, request not noted, so asked to be reseated. Staff were very friendly and attentive, the pub was quiet, so they had time for us. It was not explained how getting the carvery worked. We have always had good meals at Northbourne but will not return again ....a great shame.

We visited at around 19:30. There were a few customers still eating but no staff to be seen. Took a while for someone to see us. Our order was taken, chef and carvery were excellent. But when we were nearing the end of our meal, just finishing our wine, the waitress shouted across the room and said “do you want your bill?”. We were surprised about her outshines but agreed. She brought it over on a plate, dumped it down on the table and said “they want to cash up”. I said it was still early and that it was a pub. She disagreed and said it was a restaurant! What that had to do with it, I don’t know! Then they started vacuuming around us! So damned rude! They said nothing to us when we left; we felt as if we’d been an inconvenience.

Cheap buffet breakfast if you don't want drinks. The drinks make it expensive.

Food and service are always great. Bonus that this Toby is dog friendly in the bar area! our dog is always welcomed by the staff here who treat him to a sausage or two

Brilliant meal, nicely cooked. Went at 4.00pm on Wednesday, not too crowded. Attentive and pleasant waitress service, very pleased with whole experience. Intend to go again soon.

Been coming here for years but havnt been in couple of years, the food was absolutely bland and the gravy was tasteless dish water was so thin was literally like pouring water over a roast, the potatoes was whiter then white and very hard as you can see in the photo, meat was ok but very very thin, was thiner then packet meat brought from a super market, thanks but will not be attending any toby carvery again

Good meal & puddings served from here, the downside was service was very slow from our server. He was very friendly, but was some half hour between finishing the main course to ordering desserts, and again waiting for the bill & paying. The restaurant didn't seem over busy, but I do wonder if his colleagues left him to do everything & serve everyone else. The carver was friendly & helpful and gave good portions of meat

Amazing service from Jack at the front serving the carvery. I have had many carvery’s in my time and I will have to say he made the experience one I will not forget, great communication, good person to talk to and he was just happy and smiley 5 stars to Jack well done

First visit for us, liked the decor food was great service and staff were really friendly will visit again.

We’ve been long term Toby fans and I drive 45 minutes to eat here as there are none near to where I live. I came today with my parents and children to celebrate my birthday. The food was delicious as expected and our waitress was lovely. I wanted to mention in particular the chef called Jack doing the carving. He was very polite, asked us about our day and exceeded our expectations in the care he took to ensure we were happy with our meal. We felt genuinely cared for. Thank you

I have visited this pub/restaurant for over 40 years and in all that time, and only once have I had a ‘bad meal’. Excellent food & service.

We had 1 lady serve us, she was very busy but lovely,friendly and efficient. Great with the children. The staff on the carvery was lovely chatting away. The food was fresh and hot. Veg regularly replaced. Plenty of choice. Will go again

While out on a walk we thought we'd pop and sit outside the Toby, have no problem with the staff as they are always very polite helpful and very friendly but considering the Toby has not long had a bit of refurbishment done although nothing done outside i was absolutely disgusted at the state of the place, it needs a good sweeping and washing down as its full of rubbish and cigarette nips, to sit there and look at this is just awful and such a shame, it just spoilt a lovely couple of hours there,it's not the best of views there as your basically sat on the main road but surely the staff there could come out and clear that mess up? I understand a lot of places are under staffed but it's just not good enough, 😐 come on Toby shape up.

We went early to avoid too many people. Excellent meal and service.

Got there about half 8 , got told noone had eaten for an hr so they had taken all the meats away "as there was no point keeping the food hot for nothing" ended up leaving hungry as no food was being served despite being open until 10pm

Lovely welcome from the staff, all friendly and welcoming, shout out for Susan and Charly. After ordering our drinks went up for carvery. Beef was beautiful. Plenty of veggies to choose from. Excellent service. Good value for money. Will be returning soon.

The meat was cooked really well and the service was good.

Always like to have a carvery when can’t be bothered to cook and sometimes they can be a bit hit and miss with the quality. Stopped of at this Toby as we were passing and soooo glad we did !!!! Food was tasty and well cooked and plenty there to choose from (staff kept topping items up) and the staff were amazing and friendly and really went out of their way to make us feel welcome especially our server Maggie. Overall I must say are visit here was an excellent experience and will definitely be visiting again.

Helpful friendly staff. Accommodating for my friend who's in an electric wheelchair. Good range of food. Helped with supply of radar key for accessible toilet, given we'd left home without ours.

Nice pub with a relaxed atmosphere. The food is good but the carvery gives out meagre portions of meat. Disappointing for me. There is plenty of veg to top up with but the balance of the meal is too reliant on the veg.

We visit the Toby Carvery at Northbourne regularly for breakfast. The food is extremely good value, well prepared, displayed and delicious. Matt and the team are pleasant, attentive and very efficient.

I eat here every Sunday for breakfast and sets me up for the day, the breakfast items can change from time to time and you cant beat a Yorkshire in the morning. Would recommend

Poor quality food in a very quiet atmosphere. Food was cold and uncooked.

Food service was good and friendly, meat was fine, vegetables were less than good, potatoes were inedible. Table service was the absolutely dreadful

Ordered 2 veg carverys for takeaway the roast potatoes seem to be the rejects they wouldn't serve on the carvery itself as noone would ever pick them up and about £3-4 worth of undercooked veg...all for the rip off price of £20 if the chef isn't capable of cooking a vegetable properly they should probably stay out of kitchens

We go regularly for roast dinner, especially when they have special offers on. We always book our table at 5.40pm and the food is lovely and fresh. Also I recommend the vegetarian gravy, it's got a deeper, richer flavour than the normal gravy.

Busy and short staffed but nice food and good service

Was ok, birra moretti was completely so they happily exchanged for a peroni instead. Food is what you’d expect, annoying that they didn’t have enough carvery for everyone.

Typical Toby carvery, reasonable prices, and large portions, veg can be a little dry at times. Very polite staff.

Where to start? Dismal to be honest. This is the second Toby we’ve been to of late and the last. Why would you have so many bookings and only one chef behind the counter? Only two floor staff and a zigzag queue to get your food! Which took almost 10 minutes to get. The place smelt funny, cutlery was dirty and it just felt and seemed dirty. The staff there were brilliant considering how busy the place was (overly busy) and how much they had to do. Just shy of £100 for four and to be honest the carvery wasn’t that good. No, in fact it was poor, not even average. Toby use to be good and a treat but now it’s the same as most chain restaurants, pack em in, get em out and don’t worry about the quality of the food. Most definitely our last time we’re be visiting a Toby. Awful. Typical company just out to make as much money as they can. Perhaps my expectations have changed and I’m use to paying good money for a rememberable meal but at £100 quid for a dirty restaurant and poor food , I’d expect better. Shame really but there you go. Not again for us that’s for sure.

Purely based on the positive attitude and exceptional customer service I received from one individual staff member. The server Ann’s approach to my friend’s multiple disabilities also do her a great credit and a revisit is most certain to happen, again, thanks to Ann.

Carvery was just warm some veg undercooked the waitress didn't seem interested in serving as with other staff after arriving not shown to table just took to doorway then pointed to table normally they say who is serving you but everything from service to food terrible and the worst £11.99 for a Wednesday night disgusting

You can get a semi-decent roast for a great price here! The meat is always delicious but the veg/potatoes is often a bit dry as it's left out. Staff are always friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is always nice, with a classic, cosy, pub/restaurant feel.

It was busy when we arrived but staff soon got our table ready. Excellent team on that evening. Carving chef was asking people about their day whilst serving them, a lovely touch.

Had a refit and feels airy. Good service. Carvery was good, Yorkshire are cooked perfectly.

Food was great. The girl behind the bar with no personality chomping on chewing gum was not very welcoming. Zero chit chat and said ‘you alright?’ when she came over like we were an inconvenience. Like I was standing there because it where I hanging out!

I used to eat here many years ago, and have great memories of the place. I've since moved out of the area. We planned a Sunday lunch with two friends at this local carvery as we were visiting Dorset. There were no waiting times, which was good. I don't usually grumble, but honestly, the meat was cold despite it being under the hot lamps. (I opted for turkey and pork - my friend said the beef was cool, too). Also, regarding the atmosphere, the music felt too loud and inappropriate for a Sunday lunchtime. We sat in the bar to eat, as there were no more seats left in the restaurant section. We didn't expect to have such loud music, more in keeping with evening drinking. Anyone sitting at these tables would struggle to have a conversation. It's not the worst place, so I would still give it another chance. It could just do with sharpening up the temps on the meat and making the dining experience more comfortable.

First first in a couple of years. The buffet area was untidy and uninviting. Staff appeared rushed with online orders that were being prepared in the buffet area. Surely these meals can be packaged in the kitchen so front of house staff can keep the area tidy.

We went last Sunday with my Sister and her husband. Three of them had the meat carvery. I decided to have the fish . It was supposed to be salmon and prawn en croûte. There was very little salmon and one prawn and loads of puff pastry. Very disappointing. The others who had the carvery said that the veg was very tough. It was reasonably priced but the drinks were expensive.

Nice clean Toby Carvery. Staff are helpful and polite. Food is great. Doesn't seem to get as manic as Fleetsbridge which is nice if you want something a little quieter.

What a disgusting greeting we had, oh hang on, no greeting whatsoever, got ignored for a good 5 minutes. Even though we’d been seen, then this woman walks up, chewing gum, mouth open, talking to us while still chewing gum. Utterly disgraceful, no manners whatsoever. If she worked in my restaurant, she’d be out like a shot. Just horrible.
