The Libertine in Bournemouth

A great place, with excellent food and good service. We were meeting friends and celebrating a birthday and were very pleased we chose The Libertine. Next we travel down from Cheshire will certainly visit again.

Pub is lovely inside, really buzzy vibe. Food was mediocre at best. Very fatty pulled pork (which we mentioned but the waitress suggested thst it was a common comment), undercooked corn fritters, over cooked fish and the clotted cream had turned. When the bill came there was no mention of a tip, however when the waitress brought over the card machine to pay, she added on a 12% tip without showing us the screen. I didn't realise until I returned home. Very disappointed 😞

Really great experience today, the food and drinks were delicious and the staff so friendly. Molly was very warm, attentive and helpful, which made the experience even better! Will definitely visit again x

Popped in for an after work drink and some snacks, ordered a selection of starters. Absolutely deliscous. Definitely reccomened and will be back.

Serving staff spent more time chatting at the bar than attending to customers. We felt ignored. Been here many times over the years but unlikely to return.. Edit... I rated this 4* on my original review as that was 3 years ago, but now, after the changes, I was very disappointed. Very limited menu, in fact, we almost left. Not offered more drinks when our glasses remained empty, while the staff were obviously not busy.. As a pub ok, as a restaurant nowhere near what.

Always a wonderful experience, food and service are outstanding! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Linda went all out to make sure we had a great time, she was very attentive and friendly! The food is incredible, the chefs mark and Ellis are top notch! Iona and Mikey made sure we kept our drinks topped up..,…Rich is always making sure everyone has the best time while you’re in his pub!! Poppy is always so friendly and always has the best smile! Will definitely be back soon….

The food was delicious- everyone in our party agreed. We mostly chose small plates. These were REALLY SMALL, especially for the price. The tacos were about £9 and you get 2 tacos that are about 6cm long. I have never seen such small tacos! Fortunately we ordered plenty of other sides too. Rory gave us great service and it was a fun evening.

Thoroughly recommend a visit to The Libertine in Westbourne. Having under gone a complete refurbishment last year, it has become a very comfortable venue for drinks and food and meeting friends. It feels like the heart of the community. The staff are all professional, knowledgeable and friendly. A special shout out to Emily, who loves to serve, loves to recommend items from the menu, and is always smiling.

Lovely pub with excellent food and service from Rory. Definitely would come back again.

Mikey was very friendly, we only had onion rings and chips with our drinks but the onion rings were top tier, great pub 👍🏼

We hosted my mum's 60th birthday here and the service was nothing less than outstanding! From booking the Forge for the evening and the team setting it all up for us, to having an amazing meal in the pub, everything was perfect. Polite and attentive staff, really really lovely food and general great vibes. Really recommend the Forge for parties too - so much fun and a lovely space

Booked for a mother's day lunch and somewhere new to try. Only thing I would say is that the menu was not very exciting and nothing really jumped out. I ended up ordering the BLT sandwich with a portion of fries which was very tasty.

I recently visited The Libertine in Westbourne and was absolutely blown away by the outstanding service, especially from Tara behind the bar. She was incredibly polite, friendly, and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. It’s rare to come across someone so genuinely helpful and attentive, and she truly made our visit special. The pub itself has a great atmosphere, but it’s the fantastic staff like Tara that make it stand out. Highly recommend—especially if you’re lucky enough to be served by her!

Staff are welcoming and the food was great. We had the big beef roast that is supposed to be for 4 but it easily fed 5 of us plus a doggy bag for on of our friends dog!

We celebrated Mums 70th birthday here. Food was absolutely exceptional. Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Chef and staff went the extra mile to make it a very special and memorable experience. We had a really lovely time. Service was also phenomenal, served by Linda during our visit and she was very attentive.

Despite a nice busy atmosphere, as soon as we walked in, Emily welcomed us, and took us to a table. Her service was spot on, and the sea bass gorgeous. 10 out of 10! 🤩

Went for lunch with family- fish was cooked perfectly and portions were huge- compliments to the chef! Service from Becky and Abi was great, super attentive and always making sure we had drinks etc. we weren’t sure on the best wine to get but mickey behind the bar have a great recommendation. Interior is also lovely, will be back

Great experience in Libertines. First meal and I wished I had been sooner. Daily special of Gammon and chips. Perfect fried egg and the best chips I have had in a long time. Great selection of wines and a smiling member of staff named Emily. I will be back.

We went to the Libertine on Saturday and has a lovely meal served by Linda. The pub was very accommodating with us and managed to get us a table on a short notice. Linda was very helpful with my sisters dietary needs and we had a lovely time. Lovely pub with amazing food.

Came in for a Sunday roast and it was delicious!! We had 2 of the veggie roasts which were amazing, hard to find good vegetarian ones around here…. But found it now! Service was amazing from Becky, we had everything we could need and she was very attentive and friendly. Atmosphere was great and the rugby was playing which made it even better! 👌👌 Will definitely be returning soon 😁😁

Popped in for a quick drink Sunday night (March 2nd 2025). Turned out to be quiz night, so much better than any other pub quiz nights me & bruv had been to. Superb atmosphere. Lovely pub. Fantastic, enthusiastic staff. Finale for the quiz tie-break was a dance-off between a member from each winning team. Hilarious, so much fun. Before we knew it, a bell rang and it was last orders at the bar!! Congrats to RORY for a great night. Hope you get a free pint for your efforts. We think this is the best pub in Westbourne, no, Bournemouth, no, Dorset.... ssshhhh, we don't everyone to know.

Wowee the new Thors Hammer 2kg sharing beef roast is fabulous! Best roast dinner I've had locally by far - beef so tender and delicious roasts and veggies. We shared between 4 adults and 1 child and we were all very full, could def cater for more. Service by Becky was fab and atmosphere is always great. If there's a group of you, treat yourself to this delicious Sunday roast, you won't regret it!

UNREAL food. We visited about 2 months ago and were blown away by the short ribs. We came back a week later only to find they had been removed from the menu! Soul destroying! Tonight was my husbands birthday so we booked again, guys, the short ribs are back and they are better than ever!!! Last time we had some kind of beautiful ox cheek in a Yorkshire pudding contraption..this time was brisket mac & cheese. Jesus wept. Food is 10/10 service was great too, expensive but worth it. Get the beef short ribs.

This place is a must-visit! The Libertine has quickly become my favourite spot in Bournemouth. The atmosphere is buzzing, with a great mix of locals and tourists enjoying the lively energy. The menu is full of delicious options, and the cocktails are expertly crafted. But the real star of the show was our server, Ewelina. She was absolutely fantastic! Ewelina was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful evening. She even recommended the perfect drink for me, which was a delicious surprise. I can't recommend The Libertine enough! It's the perfect place for a night out with friends, a romantic date, or just a relaxing drink after a long day. And make sure you ask for Ewelina for the best service in town!

A perfect afternoon in the Forge which was a great space for our event. The food was amazing especially the short rib mac n cheese it was definitely a favourite. Beautiful refurb and we especially loved log burners around. It also had a great selection of beer on tap including a local real ale. Thank you Richard & team Libertine, we'll be back.

Brilliant pub - with exceptional food. We booked the meeting space for a working lunch - on arrival the fire was roaring, TV set up and the team on hand for everything we needed. The sharing lunch was far beyond the norm - it was proper foodie food in a pub setting. We’ll be back as soon as possible!

Brilliant working lunch, buffet was fantastic quality and a step above most pub lunch offerings. Refurb has really taken this pub to the next level.

I have been here a few times recently for meetings, events, drinks or a coffee. The new refurb is cosy Staff are welcoming and pleasant It’s always been a good vibe when I have been. In particular Emily has always been so helpful and attentive. Always a great service and very friendly! Always look forward to going!

Stunning pub, clearly well run and well loved. We had a picky-bits style lunch, all food was delicious. Staff were all smiley and attentive. We sat in the Forge with the log fire to keep us warm - wonderful afternoon!

Some friends suggested meeting at the Libertine and it was a great choice. It has recently been refurbished, and they have done a great job. One friend is particularly choosy about coffee and he was OK so it must be good! Emily, who was friendly and patient considering we kept moving tables, recommended a breakfast dish that honestly was better than the main meal at an upmarket hotel I had recently. Overall, it was a great place to meet up with friends, even the pernickety ones, and that includes me.

Lovely food, a great buzz about the place as it was pretty full. I wasn’t drinking, but my party enjoyed their beer & wine… and Becky was a perfect server, cheerful and attentive.

Attended a baby shower that was hosted in the forge and it was an amazing experience. I’d recommend booking the forge to anyone looking to celebrate within a calming and intimate atmosphere. Thank you to The Libertine and Emily for making this one to remember forever 🙏

What incredible service from Tara. Helped me with an amazing British Long Island and some spectacular tacos from the kitchen. The service, drinks and food were all impeccable.

Lovely roast dinner in relaxed surroundings. Top tip, make more cauliflower cheese if it runs out early every week! 😬 Crumble and custard was amazing and Ewelina, our host, was just lovely.

I decided to come to the Libertine to try the food menu and in doing so the cocktail menu caught my eye - I fancied something a bit different. I found something I liked the look of and went to the bar to ask for a "Long Island" to be told it is not served. I kindly pointed out it was on the cocktail menu (British Long Island) and it appears the female bartender, in an attempt to save face for not being aware of the items on the cocktail menu, started repeating I had asked for a Long Island Ice Tea (I hadn't) to me and a colleague of hers (who I presume was the supervisor). He mentioned the menu had some new items which confirmed in my mind the female bartender clearly has not learnt the cocktail menu. That's fine, I really wasn’t that fussed about getting a cocktail and didn’t want to make a big deal out of it (and in all honesty bartenders not being aware of what items that have on their cocktail menu is often a sign they are not going to be particularly good) so I kindly said "thanks but I think I’ll pass" at which point the female bartender blurted out "you've totally misconstrued what I said!" seemingly upset I had changed my mind about my choice of drink. It was the cherry on top of what felt like a rising passive-aggressive cake. I didn't intend to offend this bartender by pointing out something on their menu they were unaware of but that seems to be what happened. It was a really odd interactions and as someone that has worked years in hospitality, both front and back of house in various parts of the world, it took me by surprise. I exchanged an awkward glance with her colleague and a patron at the bar who both seemingly were as surprised as I was about this outburst. As it had turned quite quickly into an unwelcoming environment, I second guessed whether the pricier than normal food/drinks items were worth it in the Libertine and decided to pass on dining at the Libertine altogether that evening.

Ewelina was excellent - very professional and welcoming .. it was a great choice to celebrate our friend’s birthday.

We are repeat offenders and have visited many times. All great as usual but unfortunately they had the Rugby on and it was on all the speakers even where there were no tvs and it was pretty loud.. A simple case of buying a switch to turn of individual speakers. We are Rugby fans but would rather watch it over a pint!!!

Sue and Poppy were excellent hosts, very helpful and the right level of interest in us as customers. The food was very good too!
