The Libertine in Bournemouth

Went for lunch with family- fish was cooked perfectly and portions were huge- compliments to the chef! Service from Becky and Abi was great, super attentive and always making sure we had drinks etc. we weren’t sure on the best wine to get but mickey behind the bar have a great recommendation. Interior is also lovely, will be back

Great experience in Libertines. First meal and I wished I had been sooner. Daily special of Gammon and chips. Perfect fried egg and the best chips I have had in a long time. Great selection of wines and a smiling member of staff named Emily. I will be back.

Lovely lunch in a group of 4 ladies. Emily looked after us very well and we all enjoyed our meals and the experience.

Popped in for lunch, not overly busy but we were very quickly dealt with by Emily. The meal was lovely, service excellent. All in all very nice.

Emily was very helpful with checking the menu eg. I asked what was in the chowder and she checked with the chef who didn’t advise it. I had the lentil cottage pie which was delicious

Love this pub. Its staff are great, especially Linda and the food is brilliant. Pricing very reasonable. Always a lovely friendly welcome. Lots of good quality food , wine and beer choices.

Came in for a Sunday roast and it was delicious!! We had 2 of the veggie roasts which were amazing, hard to find good vegetarian ones around here…. But found it now! Service was amazing from Becky, we had everything we could need and she was very attentive and friendly. Atmosphere was great and the rugby was playing which made it even better! 👌👌 Will definitely be returning soon 😁😁

We went to the Libertine on Saturday and has a lovely meal served by Linda. The pub was very accommodating with us and managed to get us a table on a short notice. Linda was very helpful with my sisters dietary needs and we had a lovely time. Lovely pub with amazing food.

Popped in for a quick drink Sunday night (March 2nd 2025). Turned out to be quiz night, so much better than any other pub quiz nights me & bruv had been to. Superb atmosphere. Lovely pub. Fantastic, enthusiastic staff. Finale for the quiz tie-break was a dance-off between a member from each winning team. Hilarious, so much fun. Before we knew it, a bell rang and it was last orders at the bar!! Congrats to RORY for a great night. Hope you get a free pint for your efforts. We think this is the best pub in Westbourne, no, Bournemouth, no, Dorset.... ssshhhh, we don't everyone to know.

Wowee the new Thors Hammer 2kg sharing beef roast is fabulous! Best roast dinner I've had locally by far - beef so tender and delicious roasts and veggies. We shared between 4 adults and 1 child and we were all very full, could def cater for more. Service by Becky was fab and atmosphere is always great. If there's a group of you, treat yourself to this delicious Sunday roast, you won't regret it!

This place is a must-visit! The Libertine has quickly become my favourite spot in Bournemouth. The atmosphere is buzzing, with a great mix of locals and tourists enjoying the lively energy. The menu is full of delicious options, and the cocktails are expertly crafted. But the real star of the show was our server, Ewelina. She was absolutely fantastic! Ewelina was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful evening. She even recommended the perfect drink for me, which was a delicious surprise. I can't recommend The Libertine enough! It's the perfect place for a night out with friends, a romantic date, or just a relaxing drink after a long day. And make sure you ask for Ewelina for the best service in town!

UNREAL food. We visited about 2 months ago and were blown away by the short ribs. We came back a week later only to find they had been removed from the menu! Soul destroying! Tonight was my husbands birthday so we booked again, guys, the short ribs are back and they are better than ever!!! Last time we had some kind of beautiful ox cheek in a Yorkshire pudding contraption..this time was brisket mac & cheese. Jesus wept. Food is 10/10 service was great too, expensive but worth it. Get the beef short ribs.

A perfect afternoon in the Forge which was a great space for our event. The food was amazing especially the short rib mac n cheese it was definitely a favourite. Beautiful refurb and we especially loved log burners around. It also had a great selection of beer on tap including a local real ale. Thank you Richard & team Libertine, we'll be back.

Brilliant pub - with exceptional food. We booked the meeting space for a working lunch - on arrival the fire was roaring, TV set up and the team on hand for everything we needed. The sharing lunch was far beyond the norm - it was proper foodie food in a pub setting. We’ll be back as soon as possible!

Stunning pub, clearly well run and well loved. We had a picky-bits style lunch, all food was delicious. Staff were all smiley and attentive. We sat in the Forge with the log fire to keep us warm - wonderful afternoon!

I have been here a few times recently for meetings, events, drinks or a coffee. The new refurb is cosy Staff are welcoming and pleasant It’s always been a good vibe when I have been. In particular Emily has always been so helpful and attentive. Always a great service and very friendly! Always look forward to going!

Really nice ambience and atmosphere since the refit.

Some friends suggested meeting at the Libertine and it was a great choice. It has recently been refurbished, and they have done a great job. One friend is particularly choosy about coffee and he was OK so it must be good! Emily, who was friendly and patient considering we kept moving tables, recommended a breakfast dish that honestly was better than the main meal at an upmarket hotel I had recently. Overall, it was a great place to meet up with friends, even the pernickety ones, and that includes me.

Went here for a few meals with family over the last few days, each time the food and service were excellent - most recently the server Emily and bartender Tara was hugely helpful and friendly.

Lovely food, a great buzz about the place as it was pretty full. I wasn’t drinking, but my party enjoyed their beer & wine… and Becky was a perfect server, cheerful and attentive.

Lovely food and drink and looked after very well by Rory - a real chilled out sexy vibe. Had the roast beef washed down with a large glass of Rioja Reserva.

What incredible service from Tara. Helped me with an amazing British Long Island and some spectacular tacos from the kitchen. The service, drinks and food were all impeccable.

Lovely roast dinner in relaxed surroundings. Top tip, make more cauliflower cheese if it runs out early every week! 😬 Crumble and custard was amazing and Ewelina, our host, was just lovely.

I decided to come to the Libertine to try the food menu and in doing so the cocktail menu caught my eye - I fancied something a bit different. I found something I liked the look of and went to the bar to ask for a "Long Island" to be told it is not served. I kindly pointed out it was on the cocktail menu (British Long Island) and it appears the female bartender, in an attempt to save face for not being aware of the items on the cocktail menu, started repeating I had asked for a Long Island Ice Tea (I hadn't) to me and a colleague of hers (who I presume was the supervisor). He mentioned the menu had some new items which confirmed in my mind the female bartender clearly has not learnt the cocktail menu. That's fine, I really wasn’t that fussed about getting a cocktail and didn’t want to make a big deal out of it (and in all honesty bartenders not being aware of what items that have on their cocktail menu is often a sign they are not going to be particularly good) so I kindly said "thanks but I think I’ll pass" at which point the female bartender blurted out "you've totally misconstrued what I said!" seemingly upset I had changed my mind about my choice of drink. It was the cherry on top of what felt like a rising passive-aggressive cake. I didn't intend to offend this bartender by pointing out something on their menu they were unaware of but that seems to be what happened. It was a really odd interactions and as someone that has worked years in hospitality, both front and back of house in various parts of the world, it took me by surprise. I exchanged an awkward glance with her colleague and a patron at the bar who both seemingly were as surprised as I was about this outburst. As it had turned quite quickly into an unwelcoming environment, I second guessed whether the pricier than normal food/drinks items were worth it in the Libertine and decided to pass on dining at the Libertine altogether that evening.

We are repeat offenders and have visited many times. All great as usual but unfortunately they had the Rugby on and it was on all the speakers even where there were no tvs and it was pretty loud.. A simple case of buying a switch to turn of individual speakers. We are Rugby fans but would rather watch it over a pint!!!

The first time I have been here since the big refurb and it looks great. Importantly the team running it are excellent. Everyone I interacted with were warm and welcoming, and it was very busy so they were stretched. I hadn’t booked but was told to find one of the higher tables and order at the bar, there were a few available and super comfortable. I ordered my Guinness at the bar and Roast Beef and settled in for a bit of a wait, did I mention they were busy. Not 5 mins later my food arrived and it was great. 2 large slices of beef, 3 roast potatoes, mashed swede, roasted carrots and fresh hispi cabbage, all covered in lashings of gravy. I could fault it, oh a good size Yorkshire on top, perfect. Knowing you can get in easily without a reservation is a real bonus.

Amazing, properly thought-out and delicious food. Well done, chef. Gorgeous refit and lovely locals. Great place for a Saturday/ Sunday afternoon. The food stole the show, though. Short ribs, sea bass, beef mac and cheese, Parmesan potatoes. All exemplary: rare these days …We are planning our next visit x

Had a fantastic time watching the England V France Six Nations match, atmosphere was perfect and our bartender Chris was fab, nothing was too much trouble and always service with a smile and friendly demeanor. Thank you Chris!! :)

We hadn't been to the Libertine for 4 or 5 years but after our visit last night, we'll definitely be back soon. My fish and chips were delicious with crispy batter and tasty fish. The portions were so huge, I couldn't eat it all, though. My husband really enjoyed his short rib with parmesan potatoes and winter slaw. The meat just fell off the bone. Another reason we'll return soon was the great service from Sue and Poppy. They were so efficient but great fun and friendly too.

All four of us enjoyed a delicious meal, our waiter Rory gave the perfect service, and we really loved the cosy atmosphere next to the fire. Recommended!

My husband and I were so lucky to host our wedding reception at the Libertine. Alice and Rich were brilliant - Alice was always so quick to respond to our questions and was fantastic at the meeting to discuss details further. They made sure we had everything we wanted and needed, they help us sort food options for family members with food allergies. The Forge was such a beautiful atmosphere and everyone commented on how beautiful the room was. We will definitely be returning for meals out and recommending all our friends to come here! Definitely the place to host an event!!!

I had a really nice lunch here with work colleagues. The food was very tasty and portions were generous. Emily was taking care of us and made some excellent suggestions for alternatives from the menu where a couple of things weren't available, and was overall really friendly and professional. Holly and Becky are delightful bar staff. Always service with a smile and a warm welcome. They always remember what I like to drink and look after me when I come in. Holly also makes great cocktails and has introduced me to new and nice bourbons and drinks. The food is really good. I am actually a bit of a food snob, so for me to say it is good, must mean it impressed me. And very good service. Nice to come in on a cold day and get a nice smile and service from such nice staff.

January special was extremely good value for money and delicious (starters: scotch egg, chick-pea caesar salad, mains: minute steak, gnocchi, dessert: sticky toffee pudding.
