Toby Carvery Maidstone in Maidstone

Wanted to book a table for 5 people but could only do 1,2,3 & 4 but they wouldn’t guarantee if we booked 2 tables that we would all be together and they wouldn’t put 2 tables together. I have never been to any restaurant that wouldn’t try to help but I find the management here very unhelpful and dismissive. We walked out and won’t go there again and won’t recommend them.

We have been to a few Tobys , but this must be the worst in attitude , don’t get me wrong the food the chefs , so lovely … we booked a table and informed them in the comments section on booking , we would like a space we have a new born with a pram so we would be allocated the correct room for safety ! On entering the establishment my niece experienced hostility the pram would not be welcome for the space ! I was incensed to say the least ,at the awful treatment , we were not allowed the small pram which we had informed them about ! , my poor niece had to balance her new born baby on the car seat this was not a safe option the whole attitude really upset her , she’s only just started coming out I was fuming !, I did lose it a bit and asked for a manager to see if we could have the pram back this was a safer solution it wasn’t in the way They kept apologising to the other table next to us about , the pram we were no were near ,this made us feel like it was a problem so very upset so our lovey family meal was destroyed by insensitive uncalled for comments , making my niece feeling more stressed and embarrassed as previous comment from the checking in fella .. we had about “they can’t be to late “ it was literally ten minutes because the weather is bad This isn’t what I expected from what I thought was a pleasant family orientated dining experience .!

Firstly, I booked a table 'specifying' that a table at the side was required as one of my daughter's has anxiety problems. We were given a table BANG IN THE MIDDLE. I asked one of the women in charge if we could have a table at the side. She REFUSED! We should have got up and left there & then. I wish we had. There was SO MUCH PEOPLE TRAFFIC GOING PAST US NON-STOP. My daughter DID NOT TOUCH HER FOOD & WENT BACK TO THE CAR. The whole evening was RUINED. Our waitress said that they don't even read/take notice of diners REQUESTS. WE WILL NEVER, EVER VISIT HERE AGAIN. A WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND EFFORT!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

So we went out for some roast with family and friends. At the end when we wanted to pay, our friends had a 50£ note. Your manager Danny, well that's what he said that he's the manager, but I doubt that, he came over very aggressively to us and said that he won't accept 50£ notes. We didn't know anything about this and we haven't been told anything about this. When we asked why, he became very rude and seemed he lacked loads of manners.The lack of customer service skills was astonishing, this Danny boy didn't give a toss about customers and treat us with such indifference that I never seen before. Literally it was impossible to talk with him because everything we had to say he responded very aggressively like he was ready for a fight or something. Even the waitress came to us and apologised for him. Honestly Toby carvery, you have to do better. Maybe a customer service retraining for Danny will be beneficial. Of course you lost six customers forever and I'll make sure I'll let everyone know what kind of service you provide through Danny your manager. Do better

Worst Toby we had a bad experience in service and the food the first time but we thought we give it benift of the doubt and try again , what can I say waste of money a total slop and been sitting there for ages dried up food bad staff please don’t ware your money here crap food

We entered and waited at the desk and a voice from the bar shouted "you here for Breakfast", I said that yes we were, and was sharply advised "need to pay first". So we approached the bar and Lauren rang up the amount we had to pay, I advised that we had booked and I thought children ate for £1. "Ave you got the App" she said more loudly than necessary, I was taken aback at the aggressive voice and became flustered trying to find the App on my phone, whilst all the time Lauren is saying "its on the App", "you need the QR code" ave you got the App". I was getting more and more stressed and said we will sit and I will find it, I got a rather stern "you need to pay first". In the end I found the QR code and Lauren took my phone from me, rang up the amount and my husband paid. I went to pick up the childrens drinks from the bar and Lauren said "you look angry, are you angry". I advised her to adjust her tone and use her customer service training", to which she replied "I can refund you and you can go somewhere else", I said in loud voice "How dare you speak to me like that" at which time the Manager came to stand at Lauren's side and told me to lower my voice. I tried to explain to him what had happened, that I was unhappy with Lauren's attitude, he said that all he heard was Lauren trying to help me !!!!!! I was not able to explain any further. Lauren then said "we can refuse to seat you" and the manager just stood by. I asked Lauren for her name and said I was going to make sure the CEO was advised of the way she had treated us, she laughed and said "yeah CEO ok", and laughed at me. She said sarcastically "have a nice day" We left. I have never experienced such bad behaviour in a restaurant, particularly an empty one and most certainly never been subject to such rudeness. This was the most disappointing start to our day with our grandchildren who witnessed the whole debacle. They are 10 and 7 years old. My husband and I are both retired and find the carvery good value for money, and this means we can afford to treat our grandchildren, but we certainly didn't expect such confrontation.

Came into the pub at 6.10pm went to the bar where I was left waiting for 15 minutes before being served. Two members of staff came to the bar a number of times but just ignored me every time not even sorry I will be with you soon. Then a man came to the bar and ignored me again then once he came again I asked if I could be served only to be told that its only the manager that could serve me. By now I had realised it was the manager with such bad manners that she didn't even acknowledge me as she was more interested serving people that was coming in from outside which I was inside a long time before anyone. They have zero manners and zero people skills its unreal, What an awful place this is.....

I went there on Monday morning with my partner for an all you can eat breakfast, it was our first time at the Maidstone toby.I have never ever been so disillusioned in my life.firstly we had to go through many plates to find ones without dried food on them,and then the food was a total disaster, cold uncooked eggs,burnt bacon 🥓 black pudding so dried out,a rubber yorkshire pudding, baked beans had been crucified. No way would i recommend at all and certainly will never ever visit a Toby again, proper disgusting

Well, I was waiting for it all to go pear shaped after reading a lot of the less than complimentary reviews. My wife suggested we go....totally against my better judgement to try and avoid this place, but to be honest I really cannot complain with both food and service. For the price (£28 for the 3 of us- 1 under 12 and 1 over 60) it really was good....and nearly £10 of that £28 was for the 3 drinks we had. So £18 for 3 carvery roast I cannot complain about the price, but I also take price into account when it comes to the quality of the food, and I had really low expectations..after all, for £6 for an over 60 carvery meal I really was just expecting something warmish and reasonably edible....and M&S sandwich can be £6, so let's be realistic. However I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. So much so, I went up and got more veg etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt when this place is heaving on a busy Sunday, things will run out and quality will suffer, but visiting on a midweek lunchtime was good, and surprisingly I would go again. Our waiter was excellent, as were the greeting staff on arrival. I am notoriously difficult to please and impress, but on this occasion our visit exceeded our expectations and I am happy to award it 4 stars. Well done.

We had a lovely meal at the Maidstone Toby Carvery last week with a great variation of food; Megan our server was polite and really attentive so would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Toby were offering a £6 carvery meal so we tried to book our normal Toby at Badgers Mount but it was fully booked so I booked Toby at Maidstone for 11:50am. We arrived in good time and were told we would have to wait for the carvery to open which was fine. The serving staff seemed friendly and courteous and we waited with a drink until 12:00 when the carvery should have opened. We noticed everything was ready at least 10 minutes earlier except for the carver who we could see behind the scenes. Along with many others we queued at 12:00 but the carver wasn't in situ until 10 minutes later and we could hear adverse comments amoungst those waiting. As always the issue is to trying to get fresh hot food and after a while everything does get colder. The choice was good but the roast potatoes weren't as crisp as we were used to. Having some hot gravy was a way to warm things up a bit but if there was a microwave available I would have used it to make things piping hot. I can't fault value for money but I think in the future we will return to Badgers Mount because of todays experience.

My wife and I popped into the Toby Carvery on our way back from seeing family. My wife had seen the place précis and said she would like to visit if possibly. The place was reasonably busy for a Monday evening, the car park was being abused with all the disabled bays full of Non-disabled users. The place is clean and tidy and presentable from outside as you would expect. The staff were friendly enough and we were seated promptly. Having been given our drinks, we then queued for food. Bearing in mind it was nearly 17:00 you would imagine the hot plate to be stocked and ready to go. A queue of around 10 people were waiting for Meat, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings to be re supplied. This took a further 10 minutes before anything arrived which is pretty poor for the time at which we visited (tea time). We were served by a polite young chef, only one person managing the entire hot plate which seemed insufficient at the time as there was a backlog for f people now waiting for food. When we eventually got back to our table and started eating, the potatoes were solid, uncooked, macaroni cheese was backed to death and the pasta also solid and cheese a crunchy melted brown mess, the veg was edible and the meat surprisingly well cooked considering the rest of the helpings. Overall it was a disappointing visit and I had commented to my wife that i wouldn’t want to visit over a weekend if the device was the same as you would probably be waiting hours for your food.

Sunday roast very poor, 2 very thin slices of meat, poor selection of veg, no brussels, no parsnips & roast potato's which arent really roasted, they're browned hard boiled & soft, not good value on a Sunday...overall opinion food yuk, staff lovely

Visited this establishment today, was greeted in a friendly manner by a gentleman called Darren, who showed us to a table. We then was waited on by a lovely happy friendly lady called Emma, who can I say was absolutely amazing. She was making sure not just us, but all guests were well replenished with drinks, offering other items if we wanted to order, was just all round professional and attentive. Shame a couple of the other females working their wasn't on top of their game , Emma really stood out and as someone who has run /managed pub/ restaurants for 18 years I can honestly say I would definately love staff like Emma to work for me as that is exactly what guests want in service. Definately return again .

Slow service, cold food, under cooked food, menus and walls covered in food stains, seems to be a staff shortage and waitresses rushing around looking stressed. You could forgive some of it if the food was better,or at least cooked and hot and the place was cleaner!

This was a joke, if you don’t have enough items for TGTG, just cancel it!!!!!! 1 egg, 1 mushroom, 1 and half hash brown and 10 beans‼️⁉️ I can’t believe it and disappointed..

We arrived for dinner last night as it was my daughters 18th birthday and she loves your roast dinners and i have to say, considering how busy it was and how little staff was on, we received an exceptional service by Keelie. What a lovely lady and couldn't be more helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Well done Keelie, you are a credit to the restaurant.

Front of house staff need to attend a customer service course.. as mentioned in previous reviews, staff seem to think it's acceptable to tell their CUSTOMERS to wait outside in the cold rather than allow them to sit in the bar area?!! Appaling, I took my business elsewhere and shan't be returning

2nd time to Toby Carvery and I have to say was pleasantly surprised. Arrived with no booking but they were happy to accommodate and staff helpful. Our daughter who is 2 had a baby bowl only 99p great value. We had the carvery which was great and excellent quality. Will be back.

I was here for lunch earlier, with the standard expectations of a Toby Calvery. It’s no bells and whistles, but some people love it and fair play to them. My comments are not about the food, because unfortunately, it is what it is. The place was packed, which is great to see! My comments were regarding the staff. When I arrived holding my son, there was a disgruntled lady in front of me holding her child arguing with the host (lady in a red tshirt, didn’t catch her name) the customer was arguing over her child not being allowed to sit on her lap during lunch. The host said she’d booked a table for two, and not three. The customer carried on arguing, and taking photos of the host whilst being rude and moaning about their policies etc. I’d been a restaurant manager for 15years, and totally agree with the staff. If you’ve got a child that can sit, book them a seat. It’s not rocket science. Book a table of three, so you’re allocated a bigger table, that doesn’t block any walkways/fire escapes. The customer was just rude, and the staff member handled it really well. All the staff I encountered were pleasant and courteous. The young lady who served our drinks, and took our order was friendly.

Dear Manager, Fabulous food and great staff and service. However at peak times between 12-1 I feel you need an extra server on the meat and maybe on the floor too. Today I was disgusted by a customer who leant over the counter and grabbed some meat for herself when the server turned away and had to replenish and was working so hard to cut and serve etc. This young woman was rude and entitled. She was booked at 1230 party of 4 - 3 women and a child in a buggy. Rather than pay for a child’s meal I think she stole the meat. She was sitting in the far left corner by the door to the additional room to the left of the kitchen. She was dressed all in cream - top, puffer and trousers. Dark hair. Full face of makeup. I’d like her to be banned. The old people in the queue were flabbergasted at her behaviour but probably scared coz she looked like Vicki Pollard and someone said she’d be likely to punch someone if anyone outed her. The 3 women also left the child unattended to grab their food - priorities ???? Such a pity that this person was not shamed and thrown out infront of everyone. Who the fk does she think she is? She must be a regular. She was on her phone the whole time prancing up and down or dragging a toddler to the toilet. I’m sure you know who she is. Anyway, rant over. She is the low of the low and will get her comeuppance!

I'm currently here and it is awful, we hadn't even taken our coats off and sat down and they were asking what we'd like to order. We requested a booth as our son is disabled and was denied.
