Toby Carvery Goldington in Bedford

It was my first Toby Carvery experience and I vowed to make it my Sunday Roast place. Cleared my plate every bit of it ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Esther's waitress service transformed what was already a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday carvery, into a dining experience head and shoulders above my expectations. Her care and consideration in catering for my gluten intolerant diet was second to none. She really went the extra mile to make sure I was catered for in the best possible way. When I expressed my disappointment in not being able to have the cauliflower owing to it being prepared in a sauce with gluten ingredients, she produced a side plate from the kitchen with cooked cauliflower without the sauce. Marvellous! On arrival she immediately connected with us in a friendly affable way making us feel the focus of her attention whilst not being too full on and achieving the balance perfectly. The food itself was very enjoyable with a wide variety of vegetables all cooked to the perfect consistency, five different types of roast meat, one of our party had a tasty vegetarian option; all the sauces that go with the various meats were present and recharged so as not to go empty and the refill on carbonated drinks, of which the variety of flavours was extensive too, was a nice and welcome touch too. Ten out of ten, with Esther's attentive friendly service lifting it to twelve out of ten! Bravo Toby! Bravo Esther! 👏

A somewhat over eager waiter with ‘playful indignation’ because we ordered a drink from the bar. His playfulness didn’t really disguise his resentment and it was repeated The potatoes were definitely NOT the tasty ‘fluffed up’ potatoes that we’ve come to expect from a Toby and, in reality, the main reason we visit. I know good roast potatoes and types of potatoes and these were not good. Without spotting it I was served some very dry outside pieces of beef and lamb. We were disappointed and unlikely to visit this one again.

Pre-booked our visit to the Toby with friends - able to book online on the same day for a Sunday carvery. We called the restaurant to book it further and they kindly called back to schedule it forward more which was good service able to get through on the phone straight away. Despite how busy seated quickly and enjoyed our carvery this is our regular Toby Carvery which we love so very much. Waiter was polite and then asked for the bill and a takeaway box…… brace yourselves the Toby Head office have stopped their restaurants giving takeaway boxes to customers. Pay £15 for a carvery but can’t have a takeaway box - asked how they do JustEat orders to takeaway and apparently that’s different so ended up with it wrapped in cling film !! Ludicrous asked for head office details to complain and told to go online. I will not visit here again now such a shame - Other recommendations are Farmhouse inn’s who offer a carvery all week and massive takeaway boxes for their customers. Toby you’ve lost some loyal customers now!

Really lovely food, staff were excellent and rushed us through as there was a large coach party arriving to save us queuing, couldn’t fault their customer service

Toby Carvery in Bedford on Goldington Road is my favourite place to go for a Sunday roast. The food is always really tasty and you can go up to get extra vegetables/gravy if you need to. I go every Sunday as it is good value for money.

Lovely stay, lovely lovely meal. Chef was good vibes. Waitress was good vibes, I think her name was Shanees . Service was prompt and carvery was very good

We visited the Toby carvery in Goldington today and I never usually leave reviews but I wanted to give a special shout out to the lovely waitress Ellie who was so polite, bubbly and friendly. It’s not often you come across waitresses like Ellie and I hope she goes very far in her career as her people skills are brilliant and she is an asset to Toby Carvery. Ps - the food was particularly good today too!

We come to this restaurant fairly regularly as it provides a well cooked carvery meal at a reasonable cost. There is a choice of pork, gammon, turkey & beef and also lamb on Sundays and bank holidays. You help yourself to a large choice of vegetables, gravy and sauces. The Yorkshire puddings are a bit hit or miss! Sometimes they’re large, crispy and fresh and on occasions they are flat as pancakes and disappointing. Our waitress, Debbie is an asset to the place! She always offers 5* service. She is efficient, friendly and definitely hard working!

Cannot fault my first visit to a Toby. If I’m being honest a little hesitant but as soon as we were greeted by friendly staff my doubts were out to rest. The quality of food was absolutely brilliant and couldn’t find fault with any of it. There is a constant flow of people meaning there is nothing left too long standing waiting to be served up. Definitely surprised at the freshness and eagerness by the chefs serving to fit as much meat onto the ‘king size plate’ as they could. We were waited on by Esther who couldn’t have been more helpful and fun. Definitely a character and very professional. Nothing was too much trouble for her. A real gem!!! The food and service was great our server Esther was lovely and so friendly. Staff look happy and are always helpful even when rushed off their feet, they do a fantastic job. What let it down is the cleanliness, toilets were filthy, floor sticky and dust everywhere. They keep display bags (potato sacks) and shelves of stuff next to the food service and they look gross, dusty and dirty which isn’t a great look while plating up your food. The place can do with a deep clean. Otherwise it’s a nice place to go, can’t fault the staff.

Toby used to be good value but it is poor these days and that is even with discounts. Small wonder there nearly always seems to be a Groupon or other deal going. During our visit the food was lukewarm, gravy empty, mint sauce empty, etc. so no-one was checking things a nd it wasn’t busy. Unhelpful staff that clearly didn’t know what drinks were on offer even when the place was nearly empty. An App that really is the pits and seems to be the same across all their brands. The win a prize game that is a waste of effort. From looking at other negative reviews all the General Manager does is give excuses or say sorry. I remember the days when the Customer was always right and a negative comment would be taken seriously and the complainer would be offered a drink or discount when / if they returned. That doesn’t seem to be the case these days so one can only assume Social Media has made more people complain and managers less willing to offer a deal to get people back - even though Toby will give 25% off via email if you visit again so a voucher would hardly be a difficult thing to offer. If anyone wants our code they are welcome to it as we won’t be using it. Or perhaps the positive reviews outweigh the negative ones and they don’t have to care too much. Either way it doesn’t really matter as we have lots of other things to do with our time rather than eat in what is really now an over-priced self-service fast food joint.

These places can be hit or miss but today it was perfect. We took our 7 year old for dinner and were served by the lovely Sam. The food was great, especially the parsnips, but what really made it perfect for our family was Sam. She managed to be always on hand when we needed her whilst not being on us all the time. We had a wonderful time and would thoroughly recommend for families based on our experience today!

We had an amazing experience at Toby Carvery. The hostess Rachel was very accommodating to our request for a table in a quieter area for our disabled family member. Claire who served us was excellent and helped with our fantastic dining experience and would recommend to everyone.

We arrived at 9.30 to a luke warm breakfast on freezing cold plates needs a bit more TLC from the staff, it's a shame because the breakfast was tasty.

The restaurant is cold and some tables far to close together. The meats are OK, beef fatty but all veg is just luke warm plus stone cold plates.

We came for Xmas day lunch, the service we recieved was exceptional from start to finish, though all the tables were booked it didn't seem busy only about 5 or us queuing at a time for the carvery, we pre ordered starters and desserts, did not feel rushed , they even packed up a meal for our daughter who couldn't attend.

Awful breakfast, no eggs constantly running out 6 people waiting and they come out with 4 or 5 snotty eggs not cooked through then none again this kept happening. No breakfast yorkshires they said they had run out and were not going to make any more and it was not late. Asked for veggie sausages and they came out not cooked through. Will not return very poor effort and the cooks seemed to not care either. Instantly refunded as soon as we mentioned we were not happy giving me the impression this is a regular occurance do youself a favour and choose somewhere else.

Excellent service from Jacob, our waiter. As I am a Coeliac he made sure that my food had no cross contamination as it was all freshly cooked in the kitchen and served straight to me very quickly. Delicious generous healthy food at a reasonable price for all the family. I felt safe. Will definitely go back again!

Took my son for the Christmas breakfast and had to wait 20 mins just to get the table we had booked then there was long queue for food and no food available then the people who were at the front of the queue were just eating with their hands the food what was there and coughing all over the place and letting there friends jump the queue I just left and got my money back never again !
