The Park Pub and Kitchen in Bedford

Most photos are of the park which is about at least 5 minutes down the road & not joined to the pub. I believe photos & info should be made clear, you can not enjoy a drink while your kids play in this park.

Food was good, but when it come to paying I paid cash. Bill was £61 and I had given £70 cash expecting to get £9 in return. 45 mins later after bill had been paid I’m still sat there waiting for my change. In the end I had to get up and explain what had happened to a manager where they wasn’t very keen on giving me my money back. I think what had clearly happened is the young girl who took my money had obviously pocketed it in the hopes I would forget about it and leave. Unfortunately for her I remembered. Wont return again due to this reason. If you can’t pay your staff enough they will steal like in cases like this. Understandable, but rob the company not the poor customers.

Lovely cosy pub , great reastaurant section for tasty food and pub area for a nice drink. Good selection of beers and the roast was great on Sunday, I can't comment on any other dishes from the menu as never tried it. It gets pretty busy at the weekend, book yourself a table if you want to dine there.

Came in for a drink, staff a bit chaotic but overall a nice experience, very cosy and a nice overall feel and ambience. Fires weren’t going despite it being cold, but I’m sure as it goes into winter hopefully they will be. Found the drinks quite expensive - £13.50 for a single vodka and a pint.

Golden wedding anniversary event celebrated with family and friends. Zoe was fantastic with the organisation, where we wanted tables and seating plan. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble (a couple of fussy grandchildren who wanted to eat from a different menu 😬 were happy too!) The staff on the evening were polite, friendly and, boy, did they work hard. Everyone who joined us was extremely happy with the quality, portion sizes and presentation of the food 26 of us all with phones and none of us took any photos to share!! We had such a great time - thank you, thank you, thank you

Lovely place to stop off and have a coffee whilst enjoying a fabulous walk around the excellent park. Suitable for everyone.

4 small plates for £20 are of a very high quality...delightful infact. Barmaid is super smiley and friendly. Nice relaxed atmosphere 👌

Came for drinks and lunch. We ordered the special, Salmon Risotto, disappointing. For almost £20.00 (£18.50) the salmon was half of a tail fillet, flat and small, rather than a full size piece, hence overcooked. Also ordered a Chicken Cesar salad, which arrived with no chicken in it. Had to look for someone to advise and then wait for chicken. Again disappointing. As someone previously mentioned, portion sizes smaller. We have been coming here for a few years, but had not been for a little while and were looking forward to it. Not quite the same place anymore.

Food and service was 10 out of 10 very good.

Had a relaxing afternoon sampling the delights of the 4 for £20 snacks offer ! Perfect accompaniments to the well kept beers on offer. Receptive bar staff always on hand… Food tasted delicious and really varied. Great experience.. thanks

A lovely pub been coming for years staff are friendly. We like the 4 plates but disappointed with changes to quality and size of portions. Would have been better to increase price slightly.

Been for a wake today. I was surprised that our party didn’t have a dedicated staff member to serve the food and replenish plates, take away used plates etc. A little surprised by the bar prices eg £36 for a bottle of wine. Dodd was ok but not replenished quick enough for the number of people there. Cleanliness could be better especially in the ladies, broken toilet brush and a cracked sink only a couple of examples.

My elderly mother had a cycling accident outside The Park and she went in there for help as she had a nasty leg wound. They were AMAZING!! Both Rosie and Greg sat her down, dressed her wound and were so kind. They went above and beyond their duties to help her and I am so impressed by them. A huge thank you for your kindness and humanity. My mum was overwhelmed by all you did for her. X x

Disappointed. Cocktails were supposed to have fresh mint, but arrived without any. When asked the waiter bought in his hand two very brown sprigs and said which one do you want! When ordering a second drink it took ages to arrive. After our main course was cleared we expected to be offered the dessert menu - it never arrived and we were not offered any more drinks or hot beverages. After an hour we had to ask to pay and were provided with the card machine without even seeing the bill! Meanwhile the restaurant had cleared and the staff were chatting… it was 10 on in a Friday night. The food itself was okay although the menu limited for vegetarians, but the service was poor and I won’t be rushing back 😔

Lovely meal ahead of attending concert in the Park, great service. Word of warning - starter soup was served molten lava hot, when you have a group of 4 and only 2 have starters, it's really embarrassing when the other starter is finished and the soup is still too hot to eat. Was very nice but....

Quite busy at the time of visiting. I do like the style of the place but you have to calm down with the with the prices. 9 quid for 1 and a half strips of pork belly is hilarious.

Fantatstic Lunch. Popped in to wait while my daughter was at Gymnastics. There was a new small plated menu which looked delightful. I choose the sausage roll as the Scotch Eggs was no longer on the menu. Happy to say it is a great alternative and was delicious!

Great pub to pop in for a drink or/and food. Good menu. Fab non alcoholic cocktails for those who have to drive!!

We have been twice to the Park for Sunday lunch recently and on both occasions we were very impressed by the food, service and atmosphere.

Always a lovely place to visit, sat in the gardens this time which are secluded and very well maintained. The menu is a wee bit expensive for me to eat here often and free from options constantly change as the menu is seasonal. You can get gluten free and vegan options but my Coeliac daughter has not eaten here yet. They do a lovely dairy free iced coffee too.

It was sooooooooooo posh. But they let me in!

Great Sunday Lunch. Food was good , service was very good and prompt. Plenty of people but not too busy. All in all very pleased we shall have it on our list for a return visit. Good wine, great beer, fantastic atmosphere and charming service. The Park delivers all this and more. The contemporary decor adds to the warmth of the welcome and the clean modern lines in the interior. Unpretentious gastropub fare is on offer and well prepared and the ingredients are super fresh. The flavour of the food inoffensive and the taste as expected on a pub menu. The sausage and mash was an interesting surprise with a spicy sausage instead of the usual pork banger. A great idea keeping all sauces and gravy on the side.

Stopped here after a walk in Bedford Park. Got to say the Park has a great ‘feel’ to it with a friendly ‘vibe’. Can’t fault the service, food was great and staff were really friendly. Will defo be coming here again.

One of Bedford's upmarket gastropubs, which we like to go to for lunch after a stroll in Bedford Park. Their Sunday roast is really phenomenal, their interior setting is one of the nicest in town and the staff are so friendly. They are also super accommodating of little ones and have books and games for them to play with and a kids' menu that makes them happy. Quality of the food is a cut above the rest in Bedford, highly recommend.

Had a wonderful gathering with friends a few days ago, in beautiful surroundings. We were really looked after by the staff and the food was simply delicious. Catering for a large group of over 10 people can be difficult, but we all received our correct food at the same time. Will be going again soon

We visited The Park pub for lunch and had a really enjoyable experience, the pub is beautifully decorated, clean and welcoming, the staff were really friendly and very attentive, I had the roast beef dinner as it was a Sunday and it was really tasty, the meat was tender the vegetables were cooked well the Yorkshire pudding was huge and the gravy was rich in flavour, I would definitely go again as it’s the nicest roast dinner I have had out for a very long time, i would also like to go on a week day to see what their other menu is like as we went on a Sunday it was the Sunday menu which is a little different. They also have a car park at the side of the pub so I was able to park there which is really helpful. I would recommend this pub it was delightful.

Excellent midweek lunch choosing from the set menu. Really tasty food and so happy to see another pub selling "proper" pies. I.E. pastry all round. Just need to pay attention to the toilets (my pet subject). I gave 4 stars for atmosphere because the conversatory was a bit chilly compared to the main areas of the pub.

Been twice in a month, gave us a menu, chose half chicken roast was presented with less than a quarter, when complained was told menu had change but they had'nt got round to changing them on the tables. Gave then a second chance last Saturday only to find vegetables unbeatable, broccoli mush. We eat our a great deal and this food is totally overpriced, just look at your potion sizes & price

Zoe again was terrific. Made us feel at home, made personal recommendations (all food she suggested was excellent). The service was efficient and we were made to feel valued. My only concern was the removal of the chicken pie from the menu. This was extremely tasty an alternative option for family members who did enjoy red meat. Thanks again and would highly recommend.

I attended with my family for Sunday lunch. I paid a £10 deposit per person and was asked to pre-order which is a bit of a pain but no big deal. Our table was booked for 12.30 and some of us had starters which weren’t bad but not amazing, but our mains came out at 2.10pm and there was a 10 minute gap between the first and last meal in our group to come out of the kitchen. Plus I had added a few notes to the pre-order, all of which were ignored. Mains were ok but again not amazing quality and mine was lukewarm. We had been planning to have dessert but we were fed up by then and left. I get that Sundays are busy but it was a pretty miserable experience.

Delicious Sunday lunch with very generous portions. Half portion is plenty! Staff were attentive and very pet friendly. Only downside was the long wait for desserts and coffees at the end - took over 25 mins despite 3 reminders. Half of our group gave up and left as they ran out of time. Sad end to birthday celebration

We were a party of five adults and we had a delicious Sunday lunch. The service was really good - we were waiting for desserts a bit but the waitress noticed before we had time to ask and they were brought out immediately. We will definitely come back for more.

We visited the park to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere was beautiful, all the staff worked hard to make us feel welcome and were lovely. We did not feel rushed and staff went out of their way to give us the best experience. We were even given a dessert board on the house to help us celebrate our special day. I would 100% recommend to everyone.

I feel a bit mean giving them a 2 star review as the food tasted nice and the service was good. However the bill was hard to swallow. My friend and I were looking at the wine list for a bottle of red wine to share but were recommended the “house wine”. To me house wine means cheap and cheerful. This wine however was £30 a bottle. Had I realised this, I definitely would not have had an extra glass after, at something like £11 a glass. Granted, we should have checked the price list more carefully but I can’t help feeling cheated and this has put me off going again in a hurry.

Great place to split a bottle of wine and have some tapas (4 dishes for £20). Cosy atmosphere in winter and pub garden for the summer.

Really lovely place, gorgeous decor and nice vibe. Sadly I will not be returning here anymore. Food is overpriced, not fresh food, tasted almost shop bought. I think you can pretty much see for yourself from the £14 Msc and Cheese Poorly presented, almost tasted like rubber, sauce was split, cheese felt, looked and tasted artificial, no crust or colour to it. Not seasoned at all what so ever... Sharing nachos was the only good thing, again because it was shop bought elements piled on top of one another something that could be made at home The rice was clumpy, clearly packet rice and did not have a fresh flavour. I don't often eat pub lunch but for a place that has the service and presentation of a restaurant .... the food was not anywhere near what the prices were.

The service here is good, drinks were ordered and brought over promptly, the Sunday roast is very nice, lots of it too. Definitely recommend trying here.

Food was delicious! Service top notch!

I have been here several times before and the food is usually good. This was a busy Friday lunchtime and I ordered the pear and celeriac salad with cashews (I've had this before and it was lovely) I was served with a plate of rocket leaves with a few tomatoes and bits of cucumber with a generous sprinkling of cashews - but sadly NOT ONE SINGLE PIECE of pear or celeriac. I continued eating, partly because I was with someone else and their food would have got cold, and partly because I was searching in vain for either of the key ingredients! I informed the waitress who apologized and said that she would inform the chef. There was no offer of a refund or discount on the bill. I know mistakes can be made but how they are dealt with is the measure of customer service. This just wasn't good enough. Imagine ordering fish and chips and only getting the chips. I'm not sure I'll risk going here again.

My pesto pasta salad lacked flavour and pasta was hard. Staff were lovely and helpful. Lunch was 20 minutes later than planned for a pre-booking.

Had my second visit to The Park this week. We went for the lunchtime deal which is a sandwich, chips and a soft drink for £9.99 - food was lovely with quick service, portions were generous and I look forward to returning.

Great lunchtime with friends, we all had the lunchtime deal sandwiches ,I had sausage and onion, which was delicious. Would recommend it.

Get the best possible customer service for your order

I wasn't expecting fine dining but you do expect a decent service. Sub standard would be a compliment! On one of the hottest days of the year you would expect up selling on drinks would be a key priority. But to ask for water 5+ times before we got any. That's not good enough! Then not once were we asked if we needed any more drinks beer wine etc. Not once during starters mains or dessert did anyone ask if the food was okay. Cutlery wasn't replaced and spoons for dessert were brought out after the dessert was served. Again I'm not expecting fine dining but this is food service basics... We pre booked, our party numbers were confirmed and all of us arrived to find that there wasn't enough tables set up for the party. Again basic restauranting.... And the area we did have we were crammed in, if you like bumping elbows then it was great! If it wasn't for some of the food being okay it would be 1 star review. But if you want fresh food don't bother, considering us pre booking there was no need for our food to sit on the pass for aslong as it did. With sauces developing a crust and chips being quadruple cooked. I'd suggest staff should notify the kitchen when to cook mains and not put the ticket on after starters have left the kitchen. I'd also suggest if you go as a large party then dont allow yourself to be seated in the conservatory/extension as you will be forgotten about. The doors were locked on the one of hottest days so we couldn't add any extra ventilation and the air con units sounded like they were ready to blow up, resulting in everyone being far from comfortable, considering we had children aged 2 up to adults aged 90+ you would have at least expected someone to ask if we were comfortable! From my own perspective it seemed there was a lack of management and leadership, leading to the poor experience we had. And considering our party pre ordered from the menu for us to be seated at 2pm and stillwaiting on deserts at 4pm clearing communication isn't high up the list. In all honestly go Wetherspoons at least you might enjoy your food and know what you are getting!!

Arrived here with friends for a weekend lunch. I had the halloumi burger which was lovely. The atmosphere was nice also...a few people in without it being too loud. Only a couple of minor downsides - some wine options were missing, there were no drink menus available (due to management turnover?) and staff had to check on a couple of points regarding ingredients. However all points were made clearly and efficiently and the staff were really friendly, so we had no issue at all with any of this. Happy to go back!

We came here a few days ago to celebrate a birthday, having driven by it for years and always wanting to go there. There is plenty of seating and the staff are friendly. The cost per person depends on what you have, obviously, but our group averaged between £20-£30, they also accept blue light card also so make you you take it with you! The four sharing plates for £20 were good, and the belly strips were absolutely wonderful, I would have a plate of them if offered. Will definitely go there again "It was good" - my wife

Went there for my father's birthday after most restaurants being too full. It was a very pleasant experience, everyone enjoyed themselves and the food. Good choice of beer from Brewpoint. Food was delicious and flavourful. We did feel a bit underdressed as it look like a posh place but the staff didn't make us feel out the place. Price is a little bit higher for some bits than other restaurants but the food quality was great. Definitely will go back for a romantic dinner with my husband.

Good location and value for money

Popped in for lunch on Sunday , it was our first time experience . The interior is cosy old world charm . The young girls staffing it were smiley and pleasant . We had the roasts , one chicken, one pork . Both were superb ,accompanied with perfectly cooked, fresh root vegetables, beans and home roast style potatoes . All covered with a very flavoursome homemade gravy . Little things I liked were tables that weren’t sticky like some establishments , nice quality napkins and thankfully they still take cash unlike some restaurants . I can’t wait to return with friends and enjoy the experience again

Just had a quick beer very nice. Looks like good choice of craft beers/lagers friendly service will popback when have more time. Cheers, popped back in to start the evening off with some friends, still a good pint and service so definitely try it out if your in the area

Ten of us came here early evening on bank holiday Monday, late August, for a friend's birthday meal. The decor looked good and the seating arrangement was fine. This is a large pub but wasn't very busy so we were surprised with the extremely slow service. The staff were well presented, attentive and polite. However the first problem was that the 'sea bass had run out' - surprising as 3 of the party had preorderd it already. Cod was offered as a replacement and reluctanly accepted. I had ordered fish and chips and when it arrived it looked great. It wasn't, it was awful. The fish had been destroyed by overcooking and it was sprinkled with chopped salad onion. I did not complain because it was our friend's birthday. The replacement cod dish for the sea bass looked disgusting. The pie and chips looked good. Finally watch the bill, it was correct but there is a 12.5% service charge added and to the drinks as well. Oh, I nearly forgot the dingy and smelly mens toilet. We won't go again.

Very poor service with a wait of at least 30 minutes before food arrived. I was given the wrong plate of food - bacon in sandwich instead of halloumi. Unfortunately it took one bite to realise which, as a vegetarian, I did not appreciate. Once I had the 'halloumi' version I could not find any halloumi in it , only what appeared to be warm mayonnaise and wilted salad leaves along with pieces of battered fish. It was all very greasy and pretty disgusting. Had we not been with friends who had suggested meeting here I would have made a complaint but didn't feel it was appropriate as they seemed very happy with their food choices.

I booked two weeks ago and stated my mum is in a wheelchair. When I arrived, the only place they could seat us was in the bar; not cosy and it was noisy. The roast lunch was trenched in gravy and not flavoursome. But the portions were big and the place is clean. However, I won’t be back.

The Staff here are absolutely amazing!! 🙌 I can't say enough good things about them and whether you're looking for a new local or just popping in on your way through I highly recommend it! Friendly staff, good mixture of seating both inside and out, nice atmosphere and even a selection of games and books to keep both adults and kids entertained. 🍻😊

A wonderful place to eat and drink, the staff were lovely and I had the sea bass, wow it was amazing, loved it.

What a magic place. For a restaurant to succeed, they must tick every box and boy, this place sure does that. I took my family out for our yearly meet up (21 of us). From the ease of booking and menu selection, through to arrival, it was seemless. We had the pleasure of private dining in the Garden Room. Perfect atmosphere and private with doors to the outer area too. Every single one of my family exclaimed how great the food was and they were right. It is outstanding. Then to top it all off, the service was amazing (Thank you Lizzy!). This is a must for anyone who wants the best food, in the best environment with the best service. 5 stars all round and we will now always come back for any occasion we celebrate. Thank you to the whole team at The Park.

I booked a table originally for 9 but had to change to 8 months ahead of time. My family came to stay for the weekend, I have been to the park before and knew we would have a great meal there. The team were very accommodating and when we realised we couldn’t bring the dogs into the area where our table was we had to run them home. The restaurant were able to hold our pre ordered good for us until our party was back in place which was very kind. The food was just beautiful and plentiful. We had lots of veg and meat. I would highly recommend. If wanting to bring dogs put that in the notes when booking.

Went to the quiz night. It’s popular, would go again.

This place is simply amazing! We had Sunday Roast and it was delicious. We had the roast trio. So tasty and yummy. Highly recommended! Location and venue are also very nice for every occasion. They cook other type of food aswell.
