Doyle the chef came out to talk to us after cooking some cracking food for the breakfast buffet, and he seemed like a great bloke, very friendly. Veronika, who was working front of house, was very warm and made sure we had everything we needed. They both clearly care a lot about what they do. Look forward to coming back again!

Very nice and sociable, great service, swapped the beef as it was dry, extremely friendly, good person.

Came with friends and was a good experience, jasmine made sure that we got what we needed and kept us happy in our visit. Definitely will come again

I reserved a table for myself and four of my friends after a hard days work for us all it was lovely to unwind and chat with our friends and the lovely staff Sean on the bar was celebrating his fourth year working for Toby Garvey and the manager weronika was very polite and welcoming. Lovely place with lots of history would highly recommend.

Good service especially Sean and V quick at serving amazing food. Would come here everyday if I could afford it.

At this Toby carvery they have great customer services, very polite and lovely staff, Sean on the bar was great with our orders and was really quick!

Went with family to eat, they were understaffed, had problems with getting adequate food out on time and the carver was ready to drop. Saying that the food was good and had plenty of what was available but THE ONE THING THAT SAVED THE DAY was the chef called VJ who was ready to drop yet still was cheering us all up and left us smiling (he also made sure I got my favourite, cranberry sauce ) VJ saved the day!!!!!!

Where to begin. The food was cold. The staff on the carvery where chatting between themselves, leaving a queue to get longer and longer. The meats where lovely, however the veg where all dried, cold and hard. The roast potatoes where stone cold and tasted awful. The Yorkshire puddings looked lovely but whilst being large they where so hard they couldn't be cut without shattering into dust. They where also cold.Because we struggled with the mains we decided to try a sweet. The amount of options that you didn't have was unbelievable!My husband had the apple pie with custard which tasted disgusting and he couldn't eat it. I had Eton mess.... mess being the correct name, it looked like someone had been sick in a soup dish. The cream tasted like it was just on the turn of being off. The fruits where not nice either, altogether I definitely would never eat here again.The actual place is in a lovely setting and the place is really nice. You need to up your game on the food side.

I visited the Toby Carvery on Crompton Way today, for the first time. I was a weary traveller, looking to get some scran as I had just completed a 300 mile journey. I was seated, by a delightful young man. He was exemplary with the service he provided. Nothing was too much, incredibly attentive and welcoming. I had a wonderful Carvery (Turkey), I had many a refill, the multiple choice machine is incredible. I would highly recommend this place to any of my friends or family when they are next in Bolton. On a final note, a big shout out to Sean the young chap who served me. You made my day, and I couldn’t be more great full. 100/10. ~ Martin

We went for breakfast at this Tony carvery, really started our holiday off to a fantastic start the staff where amazing, lovely and helpful, the staff where Olivia, Hannah and Dave we had a very nice breakfast we will be comjng here again.

I popped in for a quick coffee as somewhere to kill an hour whilst waiting for my daughter to finish her appointment down the road. I’d settled into a comfy chair in a cosy and welcoming setting, was brought a very rapid latte, all was going well…. Then my card payment declined. Twice. Hugely embarrassing. The staff totally took it in their stride as I apologised and frantically searched for cash ( I had none) then let me have the coffee on the house - whilst I phoned my bank to discover that my account had been fraudulently hacked and the reason I couldn’t afford a simple coffee is that someone had gone on a spending spree at Fortnum & Mason with a clone of my card!!Their kindness in letting me sit there and drink my latte whilst unravelling this disaster with the bank’s customer service made all the difference to my day.I will be returning soon to repay them in full, and then some more

I'm a regular customer at Toby carvery Bolton. The staff are always so friendly and they always make sure I am well taken care of. It is my favourite carvery ever ! Thank you so much, especially Veronika, Pat and Holly.

We came to visit the Watermillock on the 10th July for breakfast. The staff were absolutely lovely, Veronika and Pat went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Thankyou very much ! We will be definitely visiting again !

Visited this place today as me and hubby have eaten here quite a number of times. We travelled up from Ipswich to visit family and thought it would be good to try again. However, was disappointed as on arrival we were led to a table by a young lady who gave her spiel with her back to us and we couldn't heat what she was saying, she then has to repeat it all once we were seated. Admittedly she did so very cheerfully. Now I know we are just coming out of a pandemic and so they have rules and regulations but they really need to rethink. You have to tell the servers what you want, so one chef puts the meat on the plate the next one slops all the potatoes and veg on then a waiter takes it to your table. So that is 3 people handling the plate.The waiter today (27th June) didn't seem to know what he was doing and was told loudly by another waitress he had given the wrong plate to someone, he then swore within earshot of a lot of customers. The waiter did not sanitise his hands between each one either. I don't want 3 people handling my plate certainly not a waiter who is wandering around from table to table leaning over folk. The food I have to say was fairly tasty, but mediocre at best this time. Can't blame the pandemic for that.I understand it's difficult at the moment with social distancing. Staff in general were lovely and I just hope the manager didn't dock the waitress for the couple who walked out without paying. Need to rethink this business of all those people touching the customers plates.

Went here for lunch on Friday and had a perfect catch up, Hollie our waitress was lovely and the perfect host. Food was delicious and all COVID friendly. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend. Have been to others in the Bury and Bolton area but much prefer the food at this one it just tastes so much better.

I have visited the toby carvery over the last couple of weeks with family, I just want to say the staff were amazing but one member of staff stood out, he was Shaun who was working behind the bar, he came out with the drinks even though he was busy he still took time out for a little chat with me and my elderly parents, just wanted to say job well done.

Food was great, and the service of Hollie was really fantastic! The carvery from the Watermillock was spectacular compared to other places. We will definitely visit again.

Visited with some friends yesterday morning for a breakfast date. COVID Craig had far too many questions to ask and should have focused on being welcoming to the restaurant. We felt like we were fools for not booking a table on a Monday morning at around 11am. For the 3rd time Craig, we don't have any allergies and yes we are going to check in via the NHS app. The Chef sorting out the portion size definitely needs a pay rise, he was not playing games, we really fancied our chances for a 2nd plate but he had the final say as he enhanced our plates with a minimum of 5 bacon rashers. One of our more senior friends in the group wasn't happy with the value for money on a cup of Tea compared to the Full English breakfast. We visited for lunch on the 8th June as a birthday treat for my elderly mother. Staff were very welcoming on arrival, took all necessary details for protect and trace purposes, and we were shown to our table by very friendly and attentive waiting staff.Drinks were quickly provided and we went then went up to choose our carvery, which was brought to the table by our waitress. The portions were very generous, so bring your appetite with you. The choice of meats were beef, turkey, ham and pork. The vegetables on offer included spinach in a cheesy sauce, french beans, cauliflower cheese, carrots, mashed and roast potatoes, potatoes with carrots and bacon in a cheesy garlic sauce (I think I included everything, but maybe only what I personally would have preferred - apologies if I left any out). All absolutely delicious. Oh, and of course the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. We, of course, left a little room for desserts. Again, the portions were generous. Mother and her friend had the sponge of the day with a generous supply of pouring cream. I crunched my way through the delicious honeycomb ice-cream sundae. Unfortunately I didn't take photos of the food and portion sizes, not being of the generation that automatically remembers to do this, but they really were as described.I definitely recommend a visit. We were so happy with our experience that I bought mum a gift card so she and her friend can return and enjoy it all again

On entering we were greeted with a smile and polite receptionist. We asked for a menu to look at and sat down in the foyer.The menu was fine and we decided to give it a try. Politely shown to a table and another polite young lady came and offered to take our drinks order, we decided on soft refill drinks.Having said that it was our first time we were told how to get our meal from the carvery and updated on covid guidelines etc.I opted for the beef and my partner the ham. Meat portions were fine (regular size) not a lot of veg options but the roast potatoes looked good. I had Beef, Roast spuds in dripping, green beans and carrots. The peas were dead so I declined the offer from the chef. I said that the pees looked dead and were different colours, shrivelled dry. Yorkshire pud and beef gravy. My partner had the same but she had to have peas because that’s the only veg she likes with a meal.The beef was to die for, so tender it melted in your mouth, the veg was a little bit dry but acceptable, the gravy great. The Yorkshire puds had no body, even though looking fantastic but brittle as biscuits and so dry they stuck to the roof of your mouth it was like eating wafers without the ice cream quite funny really because on appearance they look fantastic.All the staff gave 100% polite and cheerful the serving chef was great but as he was serving all the meals single handed a bit slow (there needs to be 2 serving).All in all a nice meal, great staff, and a good price 9/10

I’ve been to a lot of carvery’s but this is the best one yet! friendly staff, impeccable, quick service, hot food that was absolutely delicious. The best carvery I’ve ever had! So chuffed! Definitely only visiting here from now on. The building is stunning with a beautiful interior and exterior, and it felt very Covid safe, nicely spaced out and plenty of hand sanitizer available, all staff wearing masks

Fast and friendly service, Natalie was always checking how our food was and if we needed anything else. She was very friendly and kind.

Lovely to eat out for the 1st time in ages! Natalie, our waitress, was lovely. Helped us out to get an extra child's plate. Food was lovely, service was great.

Never fails to impress! First day back open all staff were rushing to keep up with demand but remained calm and lovely! The food is to die for every single time Natt was our server and she is an absolute credit to Toby’s.. she was helpful fast and friendly throughout! Will continue to come again and again ☺️

I understand the circumstances for the service sector aren’t currently the best, but this kind of service is abysmal. Waited an hour for service, was told too late into the meal that certain things weren’t available. When we arrived we were offered a menu and then later told we couldn’t order off of the menu as they stopped ordering the ingredients for the products. Natalie continued to ignore us when we wanted the bill and were trying to pay, spent half an hour sat at a table with the debit card ready. Every customer was squeezed into one room with not much in the way of social distancing. Didn’t know the global pandemic ruined basic good customer service.

Our waitress Lauren was extremely helpful and welcoming. The entire restaurant dealt with the COVID 19 situation very well and we felt extremely safe. Would 100% recommend!!

I love this Toby, I am a frequent visitor and I have to say the service I received tonight (Wednesday 21st October) was next to none. The young lady on the desk was very welcoming and explained to us all the changes that have happened recently since our last visit. The waitress (polish lady) was friendly and chatty. The Carvery was spot on as per usual! Well done Toby Bolton keep on doing what your doing and you will come out the other side of this stronger than ever!

Visited as a family. Food was delicious and portions were a really good size.It was well planned out regarding Covid. Staff were lovely, very helpful chatty and friendly. The actual place is lovely very historic with lovely outside lighting. Really good value can’t wait to go again!!!

It’s different here due to Covid but it’s very well done. There is one entrance and a separate exit. Bookings are advised. Very friendly staff, all wearing masks, very clean, tables all spaced out. The food is served for you as opposed to helping yourself, but you can have as much as you want. The staff are working hard to make it a safe and enjoyable environment, we had no qualms and would definitely encourage people to support them.

We visited on a Monday evening for Carvery as a family. First of all, It's a beautiful venue! Gorgeous original interior and marble fireplaces. The carvery was delicious and the portions are very generous.The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough to help you They were very attentive throughout the meal and all waiting on staff were smiley and willing to have a chat and a laugh. I'd definitely eat here again! We are even considering Booking in for the Christmas Dinner!

I have just had the most delicious full cooked breakfast from the Carvery. I want to say a massive thank u to CRAIG & HOLLY and the staff here. There was a Warm welcome & the guys are so organised and running things to perfection thank u both of u 10 stars from us can’t wait to be back xxxxx

Went to Toby Carvery in Bolton with the girls for lunch after a morning at uni. Staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful. Could have a laugh with the guy serving the food (who gives massive potions so you’re deffo getting your money’s worth) and the waiter/waitresses coming over serving our table. Wasn’t waiting ages for anything, it was quite fast service. I think they’ve done well keeping the restaurant open with the current Covid situation as I felt safe being there. There was 4 of us and we were all paying separately with separate discounts, which Craig handled and he was so nice and friendly even though we were probably being a pain wanting to pay separately lol. I was so full when I left that I got a stitch coming home but it was worth it. The cocktail tikki thing I had too was banging!! Me and the girls will be back soon!!

Visited for a family roast, food as good as ever with Toby, the restaurant is very clean and the staff are constantly disinfecting surfaces. Felt very safe and the waitress Lauren was very friendly!

Firstly our family got separated and we had to eat in separate rooms. Our table was not clean and the waitress had to clean while we stood watching Not great!!! Queued up to a chef not very hygienic as he kept wiping the sweat of his brow and touching his hair and at no point did he sanitise, are we in a pandemic????? The food was dried up and didn’t look appetising at all everything was burnt. I did complain to the chefs and asked for fresh food to be put out but I was just an inconvenience to them. I would not recommend this place at all. The manager Craig certainly didn’t have any management skills at all.

After visiting on the eat out help out scheme we were taken to a table and asked to help ourselves to thr carvery. After 30 minutes of queuing up we eventually got our food which was tasteless, unseasoned and just awful in general. We then waited a further 30 minutes for our unlimited refill, which we only received as we decided to leave. Can I just point out the restaurant was not busy there was just 1 waiter running around for everything. Clearing tables, taking orders, taking payments and providing drinks. After over an hour of being in the restaurant we decided to call it a day with two young children bored out of their minds, we ordered desserts to go. The manager then took it upon herself to charge us full for the desserts as we were not eating them in the restaurant (up until this point I hadnt seen another member of staff only a waiter). The reasoning that we had waited around for over an hour wasnt adequate. So all in all a horrible experience and we will not be returning. The fudge cake was also bland tasted nothing like chocolate £32 wasted.We visited pine tree farm on two occasions during eat out to help out and both times the food was amazing and cakes were available to take out. Would definitely recommend pine tree over toby carvery 110%The complaint submitted was dismissed and they had an excuse for all of the above

When we arrived, the table had not been cleaned, the waitress cleaned it as we sat down, not good during a pandemic. When we went up for the carvery, everything looked dirty to be honest. Potatoes and bits of meat all over the place. The food itself was not very nice either, burnt potatoes that were rock hard, Roast beef very over cooked, although the turkey was ok. Stuffing was also dry and overdone. Green beens, looked like they had been standing all day. All in all not a very nice experience. Will give this place a miss in future.

Always have a lovely breakfast here, really the best we have had. Service is always spot on. Definitely our go to place.

A very good carvery in a beautiful building (I still call it the Watermillock, I wish Toby would ‘localise’ the branding again. Lovely, friendly and chatty service from Craig and Veronika and we look forward to the next visit. I can recommend the ice creams - pleas put roast pork back on the menu!

We recently went here on the EOTHO scheme. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left there was nothing but great service. Think his name was Sean. It was very busy but nothing was too much trouble the Carvery was good quality we will definitely be returning!

The staff who served us the carvery were very rude and disrespectful towards my sister. They took a patronising tone with her and weren’t very helpful. There was also a bad selection of food, the gamon wasn’t ready and neither was the mash, we eventually got the mash when we had finished our meal so it wasn’t very helpful. The staff seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing and I’m general it wasn’t a great atmosphere.

Visited earlier today with my nan who has been isolating, for her first outing/meal and to say the least we extremely enjoyed it!Never a bad meal anytime me and any of my family or friends visit and all staff extremely welcoming and happy offering brilliant service!Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a lovely meal at a good price

Well I use to come all the time but breakfast and service is rubbish never use to be I think they may need to change the manager as he is so rude and not helpful at all I think some of his staff gained the same attitude and it’s as bad as the food, nuked bacon under cooked sausages dried out mushrooms no scrambled egg. this place has gone down hill in the past year new make over needs new staff as well and management and before you reply saying sorry for your experience you need to start taking all these complaints on board there is more unhappy people than happy your killing a good business

Six months ago, I visited this Toby Carvery for breakfast, it was a Friday morning. There was no food out and a host of people were unhappy about the service. I requested a refund and vowed not to visit again.For some bizarre reason I did go again on the 14th February another Friday morning for breakfast thinking perhaps last time was a one off and it’s improved. I was extremely wrong.As anyone who knows you pay for breakfast in advance before you see what’s on offer, this could be because they know they offer such poor choice and service.I paid for two breakfasts and two drinks, two cups were handed to me one with a nice chip in it, very hygienic. Sat at a table, made drinks and went to make toast, no white bread out. Went to look at breakfast, no bacon, no beans, no tomatoes, no Yorkshire puddings, no potato hash and barely any eggs. The sausages looked barely cooked. Decided to sit and wait and was told it would be a couple of minutes. 10 minutes passed still nothing. You could see the same people going back and forth also waiting for fresh food to be put out.In the meantime, I make brown toast, go to collect a plate and find six plates in the stack all with encrusted food on them, as well as two discarded plates of breakfast food, maybe someone gave up on waiting!I then speak to another disgruntled customer whose been waiting 30 minutes for bacon, 30 minutes! I decided enough is enough, I shouldn’t have bothered giving it another go. I see a manager and ask for a refund. I point out this is the second time I have experienced this, and the excuse given was ‘We’ve had a rush on, and we have only one chef.’ Ummmm heard that excuse at another TC in December. Where is the rush? The car park is empty and there are plenty of tables to sit at.I point out that it is bad management, lack of break out, dirty plates, chipped cups or is that because you have one chef working.At one time I frequented this place a lot for breakfast and was never disappointed either with food or staff, but now it’s clearly gone down the pan and I won’t be returning again.

Called this morning at 10am for breakfast, was told it was all being replenished and would be 5 mins40 mins later they brought out bacon and half cooked sausages and nothing else, no coffee out eitherEnded up asking for a refund and leavingStaff were very apologetic and gave a refund without question

Went on a Sunday pre booked great staff mainly chef cutting meat was quite sharp serving the thinnest slices of meat when my mother said I’m only have turkey can I have more he huffed and puffed had a cheesecake for dessert not sure it should be served warm !! Overall food was good

we had planned to visit the other Toby Carvery in Over Hulton for a pre-panto meal of a large family group but we could not book for a large party at the time we wanted so switched to this venue.We were surprised to find such a pleasant location and quite enjoyed the meal. The only slight problem we had was in the slow service of drinks and the cooked to order meals for a couple of the children as there was a long wait - our carvery meals were almost finished before the other ate and as we had a limited timeframe for the meal this was a little stressful.

Staff were really friendly.We waited about 15 mins before going to the bar to order our food. Apparently staff were meant to come to our table but we didn't mind much.We waited 30 mins for our food. Which arrived luke warm. We had the vegan pie with the carvery. We asked staff what food was vegan, they said the mash potatoes were but we double checked to ask if milk or anything was in and they said cream was in them. Not sure that staff knew what "vegan" meant but they were friendly. It's just a good thing we asked.I don't think this Toby is particularly good for vegans but the food wasn't bad. We just had peas, carrots, cabbage, stuffing and pie.We didn't think we'd risk dessert.

Absolutely love this place the food is gorgeous, absolutely love the mac and cheese and the mash is my absolute favourite staff are always polite to never ever fault this place will always return

Very disappointed with the meal served, small portion of meat AGAIN ! Toby carvery is not worth the money £7.29 Soggy veg too. Complained then offered extra veg, another drink or a dessert, refused these as I never eat desserts already had a drink I just wanted a good portion of meat on my plate to enjoy that’s it! Staff nice enough and not their fault, manager said meat is served by weight control but that was ridiculously thin and not even a full slice? Only asked for 2 of the 4 meats on offer. Toby carvery Bolton need to improve or I’ll not be returning there.

im not really a fan of carverys but just had a meal with my friend and 11wk old daughter, to start its a lovely setting and the staff were really welcoming really nice towards my little girl, even provided boiled water for me to make her a bottle, the set up is lovely all the staff encountered today were really friendly and polite, the carvery was really tasty and i enjoyed all of it x empty plates! the guy who served us was really friendly x definately worth a pop in x thankyou

Booked a Table for Christmas Day for my Mum and Daughter Had soup for starters which was Delicious and cannot fault the Dinner the food was delicious and hot we finished with Christmas Pudding and brandy butter sauce which was delicious our waitress was lovely and nothing was to much trouble for her will be booking again for this year and New years Day Dinner as well 10/10 ❤️

Had a fantastic time service was quick and service was with a smile, food was good restaurant looked very clean and the family was very happy will definitely be coming back here I would fully recommend eating here

Brilliant food brilliant server called Shannon (short female) Lovely female on the front desk yes the outside needs maintenance to the wooden rotten hand rail thats loose but since the new manager took over here around a year ago its been so much better than it once was on some reviews it says its filthy its a very old building and I like to be clean myself and I think its ok so there just nick picking for no reason I would say visit the place nice building lovely staff and good food :)

We went yesterday for our christmas lunch having paid £50 each. The place was freezing cold and the food was terrible. This was the first time I had been out for christmas lunch in 20 years and it was completely ruined, not an enjoyable experience at all. The soup to start with was so tiny and the bread was stale. The main course everything was cold and all you got was one slice of dried up Turkey. The roast potatoes were piled up so high on top of each other that there was no way that they were going to be hot and they weren't ... they were hard and cold.

Christmas dinner, £50 per head. Starter: 3 spoons of soup. Main course: 2 wafer thin slices of dry turkey with dried out spuds and veg, all cold or lukewarm at best. Pudding: extra small portion of Christmas pudding with custard, again lukewarm.

We went to this pub to celebrate. However we were very disappointed. The food was nice but the service was terrible. The staff stood around bad mouthing other guests in front of use. There was a long wait for order items such as drinks and puddings. Then when we came to use a voucher the staff said it had been used a hundred miles away even thought we had only recieved it 3 days earlier. The manager was less than helpful and we left having to goot the whole bill.

We go most weekend but the staff are very rude and unhelpful we rang up to book in as we have a toddler with autism so he can be hard work especially if we are left waiting for long periods of time and the woman on the phone told us to just come, we were just round the corner so we was pleased when we was told they had room!

Well when it says scrambled egg is free range eggs made to order it’s not it’s still packet Blancmange type scrambled egg which there is never non in atm then when you ask for fresh fried egg you get told there has just been some put out well either they can’t cook or they have been put out like 10 minuets ago and are now like rubber under the heater then the sausages and bacon are over cooked and very dry, very poor food

When arriving we were a little unsure of where to go as there was no one to ask, when we did stumble across staff we were barked at to go to the bar to pay first. We then waited 4/5 minutes to pay as said staff had better things to do. The bar was extremely sticky like it hadn’t been cleaned. The plates for the breakfast were dirty, I had to move 4 plates before I found one that did not have dried up food smeared on them. The food was lovely, in most Toby’s, we have been to there is an option of scrambled egg but here there was only fried which I do not like. We had to wait 15 minutes for white bread for the toast but the girl was very helpful in getting that as soon as it was available. Won’t be going here again based on the initial staff friendliness or should I say, lack of.

This is consistently the most beautiful and best Toby Carvery around. Even staff at other Toby Carverys speak highly of their time training there etc..

Me and my family enjoy going there. Food is nice, best mac'n'cheese for a side. Yorkshire puddings are also good! Staff is friendly and can deal with stressfull situations :)

Visited this Toby Carvery today for the second time and we will not be visiting again. Beef and lamb were so fatty and full of gristle that we could not eat it. The potatoes and vegetables were ok but still a bit soggy. When we complained about the meat, the server was apologetic and offered us more meat but we did not accept. While we were there another couple sent there whole plates back as their meat was completely inedible. Really disappointed.

Does the staff training have a section to complete on how to be rude and uninterested in customer service.When you have finally found a staff member come back from having a smoke to seat you and then wait a eternity for drinks to come in the middle is wonderful food you then have to search for someone to pay the bill sort it out toby.

Always a treat to come to Toby Carvery Bolton, the food is always fresh and topped up, with amazing variety for veg and sides.

Food was excellent just felt some of the front staff were extremely unprofessional and rude as I heard a man who I assume was a manager swear towards a waitress Which made me feel uncomfortable

Food unattractive, extremely poor quality, luke warm in cold plates. You could have done damage to your teeth on the Yorkshire puddings. Meat down to just pork instead of a choice of 4.

Pleasant meal in pleasant surroundings !

Took two young children straight from school for a treat. The staff were excellent in the way they looked after us. We had the carvery and it was hot and tasty.

After several visits here I feel I have to report its almost permanently poor food. The meats are great but the vegetables are invariably overcooked, cold and dried out by being under heat lamps. It’s simple food and not difficult to get right but this place seems to be incapable of doing so.

We eat vegan. Dairy allergic. We go here because we were assured of lots of vegetables for us hungry folk. Sadly after many visits we were told differently. Some staff members assured us there IS butter on the vegetables, others told us no.

First time visiting the Bolton Toby carvery, was ridiculous, first of all their was only one staff who was doing everything drink order, seating you on the tables juggling with everyone, she had that's much going on our drink was wrong the the poor lass, had to go and get the man/cheif if you wanna call him that. to cut us some meat cause he was sat talking in the back who then had an argument with her infront of the customers. The food selection was poor had to wait an hour for the meat to be cooked then to top its off the manger came who the pull the employee to the side has they just was chatting to other another whilst this poor staff member was doing everything. Unless the sort their staff team our and meals I will never return to the Bolton tobys

We hired the function room at Toby Carvery, The Watermillock, Bolton for my daughters 21st birthday party.

A lovely evening meal set in a very grand building. Food was hot and appetising. Service from Holly was excellent, she took time to explain the vegetarian options and available beers with a smile and a sense of humour.

I’ve been here several times and had a good experience, however today was a bitter disappointment. Not enough staff, the queues for the food where so so long, good looking building on the outside but shame about the inside.

I think everyone knows what to expect of a Toby carvery. Well this Toby does great roast dinners in surprisingly stylish surroundings. The building is very grand. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place.

Came in for breakfast , barely cooked , had just finished eating and saw the staff cleaning food from the hotplate that wasn't out that morning , not a great sign , asked for coffee was told it was coming , then they weren't making anymore then 1/4 pot arrived , beyond poor service and quality

After a long drive from the south of England and several hours stuck on the motorways, Toby's carvery was our Godsend.

First time here with family so ill try be honest as I can

I’ve visited here a few times. I’ve found that during the week as they don’t have much customers the food can be left for quite a while and the meat goes dry as being left.

My wife and I have visited this branch many times and the food and service compared with other branches, have been mostly good. We hadn't planned to eat at the Toby on this occasion, but our preferred Italian restaurant was very busy and noisy. However, to reiterate, regarding the Toby Crompton Way, the last few occasions had been very good (hot food always important to us), but on this occasion, the turkey and roast beef was carved with so much fat and gristle attached, vegetables had limited variety and were only warm, at best. All said, this eatery was nothing like busy, on this occasion. Doesn't make sense does it ? But we find this strange phenomena produces poor attention to food and customer service, when the restaurant is sparse, and staff become "over relaxed." I must be honest I am often critical of others when they don't complain at the time, so as the experience was not up to standard, on this occasion and I didn't complain, that was my own fault, but you do get fed up of complaining about errors that are so fundamental.

I was treated to English breakfast on Fathers Day.

Usually good food and good choice of meats. Good for vegetarians. Family friendly. Yorkshire puddings are far too big, take up lots of room on the plate (maybe that's what they are after), puds also dried out from being under lamps too long

Top notch food and great service.. nice pint of John smiths to wash it down too.. can’t recommend it high enough

Been with friends today, 1st time for me. Thoroughly recommend the carvery and all the vegetables perfectly cooked. Very well looked after by staff who couldn't have been friendlier. Would definitely come again.

The hot food was freshly cooked and delicious. When it came to ordering a dessert we were very disappointed, NO ICE CREAM! So no Sundaes either, all they could offer was Arctic Roll!

Went here for lunch today with my friend. It was a shambles from start to finish. Led into the big room which was freezing cold. There was a big queue for the carvery. Watching the chappie carving the meats was awful. Little stringy bits, no beef on. Cold plates. Undercooked veg. Cold gravy. By the end of the meal all the food was cold. Inedible. Sorry to say we won't be coming again.

Had a great lunch served by the best Waitress ever. Attentive Informative Efficient Friendly Unatrusive. Her name was Carla. Food delicious, restaurant attractively decorated. Great time.

I ordered a 3 course meal 430 today my meal came at 620 it was cold, prawn salad no rose Marie sauce lettuce dried up,roast meal gravy like water,roast potatoes rock hard,didn't get my 5 veg just carrots peas and red cabbage all hard and srizzeled, up got a lot of macaroni cheese which I didn't ask for and cant stand,Yorkshire pudding soggy cold,complete waste of money could not eat it complained to toby carvery who just insisted get on to just eat,I went to the restaurant months ago I enjoyed it so after this I'm put off ever going again.

Visited for my birthday on a Friday afternoon in half term. Ended up at this carvery as the one near the M61 was shut for an electrical fault. Lovely big building and nice inside. Waited a little to be seated by a friendly guy. Bought unlimited refill drinks and 2 adult and 3 kids carveries. Food was lovely, the gravy and roast potatos were ace. Decent atmosphere. However when we came to pay, waited 5 minutes at the unmanned bar. There was also a couple waiting to be seated for a while. All this time there were 2 members of staff sat at a table chatting away, looking at us every now and then but doing nothing. The same fella who had seated us eventually turned up looking a bit flustered, and apologised. To be honest, I had seen him take out desserts, seat people, clear tables and man the bar by himself all this time. Although it wasn't that busy, it's a big Big place to cover on your own, and apart from the carvery chefs, he seemed to be the only one working in the whole time we were there. On a whole a decent carvery spoiled by service, not so the lad serving, he was flustered for a reason. More the lack of, or uninterested of other staff.

Have had mixed experiences at the Watermillock. A beautiful building and sometimes a "beautiful" meal but not always. The vegetables can be perfect or they can be under cooked and dry. On our last visit we were told they had only two roasts available. At least they told us before we sat down so we were able to leave and go elsewhere. Will probably go again but not any time soon.

Lovely breakfast and great friendly staff who went out of their way. Pub has recently undergone a refurbishment and looks fantastic too. 5 stars all the way, if there were more stars these would definitely get my vote.

I come for breakfast most Thursdays after doing the school run and every time I visit for the all u can eat breakfast there are never any yokshire puddings or gravy AV to eat !!!
