Toby Carvery Amesbury in Wiltshire

Frequently visit Toby for Sunday dinners but had an exceptional visit today. Every part of the dinner was perfect - tender meat, crispy potatoes, delicious gravy. Top service from Bailey who made the visit that extra special and was happy to accommodate our weird request of ordering a pudding to take home. 10/10 - would overeat again

Easy to get served and food is as expected.

Visited on Friday Evening, around 6:45/7pm. When arrived we had to wait to be seen for a table for 10 mins, even though we booked and there was 2 staff members stood behind the bar not doing anything. Waitress was really nice, albeit lack of communication as asked multiple times for drinks order after we’d ordered. Then the food, we opted for 5 carveries, which was the first mistake. Only had Gammon & Turkey and the end of a dry bit of beef. Yorkshires weren’t fluffy or crispy, just soggy and flat. The vegetables were well stocked, but not very nice. Food wasn’t warm, even after being under the hot plate, which makes one wonder how long it had been left out for? Then when we were sat eating, we had a booth near refill machine; all we could hear was the kitchen staff playing there music really loud, so much so we couldn’t hear the restaurants music and it wasn’t the most appropriate choice of music. Luckily had a discount code to use, but in my opinion that was still too much for the level of standard of food. Sadly won’t be returning, which is a let down as we’re only 5 minutes away.

Very average I'm afraid It was poor 5 years ago. We thought we'd try again Food is adequate but certainly not worth the money in comparison to other pubs etc. Service was ok... They didn't look very happy except we could hear the kitchen singing Oasis very loudly. Decore was average, toilets not maintained, peeling walls, no locks on doors Come on guys you can do better than this

Booked for 5pm on Sunday, pefect day for a roast. When we arrived there was no Pork, Lamb or Beef left the only options were Turkey or Gammon. We waited for a bit to see if they would be replaced before asking one of the servers and was told that what was out was all that was left. We looked at what was out which didn't look appetising, the yorkshire puddings were flat like pancakes so we paid the £8.50 for the 2 drinks that we poured and left. Not great considering this was only 5pm and they're supposed to be open until 9!

Stopped on way home from friends. Place was nice and clean. Staff where very friendly.

We had a private room for a family gathering, which proved very successful and would definitely do again. Staff were exceptionally helpful, thankyou Sam 😊

we've had varying experiences whilst visiting this location. Yesterday was one of the worst ever. Last time there was a shortage of food; long waiting time but at least when the food eventually came out, it was edible & the Assistant Manager was polite & apologetic. We arrived on time; the Assistant Manager told us that the food was ready.There was enough initially for 5 of our party, but there were 20 of us. No sausages, no bacon, no mushrooms, no eggs; undercooked pancakes & an empty ketchup bowl. No white bread available & the jams all mixed up & in disarray. The trainee chef came out; when we asked where the food was she told us to stop giving her a hard time. Then another chef came out from the kitchen & literally slammed down a container of undercooked bacon onto the serving area. Eventually we gave up waiting & asked for refunds. My friend asked the assistant manager if she minded having to issue refunds & she said it was no odds to her. You asked me what I thought was great : nothing whatsoever; what can be improved : well everything really, but only for the benefit of other diners because I will never book in my party of regular travellers again.

Very busy at 5pm, we took this to be a good sign, and it was. Food cooked well and hot. Service staff friendly and polite. If only the customers would take more care putting food on their plates and not all over the counters!!

Food only lukewarm meat only small portions as hardly any meat available to choose from . Service not that fast had to go and get own cutlery and drink took a long time coming . Won’t be back .

Ross was an excellent server. So glad I tried Toby Carvery again, my first visit was not as good, but this time the vegetables were really flavourful and the size of the meat portions at the carvery were so generous! Plenty of veggie, dairy free, and gluten free options, and Ross kindly pointed out the ‘baby bowl’ which you could fill with veg for just 99p. He also cleaned up remnants of the bowl when it inevitably ended up on the floor and was quick to point out the baby changing facilities as we left. Above and beyond! The servers at the carvery itself were also brilliant, keen to help and extremely efficient. It was a pleasure to dine in for lunch today and I have been turned into a loyal customer— we will be back soon!

Over 20 of us arrived for breakfast, all accommodated and catered for without a fuss. Food hot and tasty, good selection and child friendly. Would return again.

2 stars for the carvery because it’s always nice however everything else was pretty crap Was waiting outside the baby change for about 15 minutes after being told it was occupied Turns out it wasn’t For dessert we orders the chocolate pancakes they took almost 30 minutes to come out and Diddnt even come with cream as stated on the menu

Advised upon arrival that there was no beef left. That was absolutely fine. Got to the carvery section and the veg selection was dire to say the least. Peas, green beans and cauliflower which was supposed to have cheese in it. We had one vegetarian and one meat free meal. There was no veg to fill up anyone. Left very hungry. The staff were very apologetic and understanding and gave us a discount. The most disappointing Toby carvery we have ever had. Travelled 2 hours to get there back from London and still have another two hours to go, hungry. Bad show Toby Carvery and all because of your 50% discount all week, it's a shame that the Saturday clientele couldn't have the same as those through the week. Do better.

Arrived at 1710, got seated and then ordered food and drink. Went to the hot plate got told the gammon will be 10 mins. Ok fine, went for the other meat (Turkey), the potatoes were like bricks, there were 2 options for the Veg, no apple sauce. Starting eating, had 4 adults eating and not one of use said the food was good. While eating the table next to us said the gammon will be 15 mins. But 10 minutes ago they said it will be ready in 10 minutes ? It was prime time for dinner so why wasn’t there meat waiting to be replaced when gone. Not a very good experience when usual the food is good. Also the chef on the hot plate was miserable and it felt like he couldn’t be bothered to be there 🫠

Fantastic service, with all vivid safety measures in place.

Popped in for a mid week carvery with a £6 voucher. excellent value. Food was great. All in all a good visit. The new sage and onion roasties were good and were actually crispy. The normal roasties are still like mush - not crispy at all but after so many visits this is what we have come to expect. It did not detract from the overall offering but would have been nicer if they were crispy. No green cabbage which was a bit of a let down as I usually have half a plateful with gravy! Staff were attentive and pleasant.

I was served by Bailey and just wanted to say what a fantastic asset he is to your service team. He has a wonderful manner with customers and was very polite, helpful and efficient. When he wasn’t serving customers he was ensuring that tables were clean and prepared for the next guests. He was aware of everything that needed to be attended to at all times and had such a lovely demeanour that it was a pleasure to be served by him

Jan marc and his team are absolutely amazing. The service is 1st class and so welcoming. We continue to drive from Dorchester to Amesbury every time we choose the home of the carvery. Food outstanding, and atmosphere truly great

It is what you expect and nothing more. The actual servery counter staff / "chef" was less than average. Food was old and cold. Probably worth a dodge if you have the opportunity.

We visited this restaurant initially as a rest stop before traveling to Dorset. However, the place was so nice, clean and welcoming we decided to stop for lunch. I'm glad that we did. The yorkie wraps are to die for and I would thoroughly recommend. Our server Ross, was helpful, professional and made our visit an extremely pleasant experience. Will be visiting again.

There was one young man working very hard. The Manager and 5 other staff were all huddled around the till chatting on their phones ignoring all the guests in the restaurant. This went on for at least 10 minutes I eventually was able to place my order for desserts with our original waiter again him I praise he was literally carrying everyone else. I asked to speak with the Manager who came and saw me to bring to her attention my thoughts on both our waiter and the rest of the staff. On a side note I am unaware if you in fact have a dress code for Managers but if you do then you need to revisit this particular one. Jeans t-shirt and some sort of coat which frankly looked like something out of oxfam just did not cut it. Having been told by the Manager that she had some problems I offered her my sympathy for whatever she may be dealing with. In fairness to the Manager after my comments everyone started working and attending to your guests needs

Arrived at the carvery deck and all meats looked really nice moved onto the vegetables and they definitely didn’t look appealing. So, come on I’m sure it can be a lot better.

A great roast for the price. Lovely, friendly service and a plate piled high of food for only £15/each. Left stuffed full and happy! Hannah M. was chatty and incredibly apologetic when the card machine was playing up - which we didn't mind as we needed time to digest our huge meals anyway!

Very disappointed the food was very poor presentation counter not a good advert food dried out and cold.It looked to me you where more worried about who was parked in your car park when you should concentrate on the food you are serving to the public.

A great antidote to the January blues and such a convenient stopping point. Definitely a better option than the fast food places at these services. Harrison’s parsnips we’re particularly good today. Great variety of vegetables.

Yesterday - 14th, I dined with my friend in the Amesbury Toby. We were greeted by G, the Manager, he is always friendly and polite.The meal was perfect as usual. I can’t recommend it high enough. Looking forward to going again next week. Thank you, Margaret.

Value for money. Popular as packed so advise booking for Sunday lunch. Beware vouchers as turns out weren't eligible for Sunday lunch which was annoying a lot of people.

5 stars, me and my friend came to toby carvery because we were feeling quite peckish, we had a lovely server, bailey, he’s so polite and made us feel very welcomed. The food itself was good but the way we were treated will make us definitely come right back!! well done bailey

Food was very good! Hannah our waitress even saved us £14 off our food bill. Very impressive.

Unfortunately the food let us down here. As a regular eater at other Toby Carvery restaurants this food was not up to standard. I visited here after staying nearby for a weekend away and visited for the evening Carvery. The roast potatoes were awful, hard and tasted reheated. There was a very limited choice of veg. I did return for the all you can eat breakfast but this again was not brilliant. Thr Sausages were lovely but the bacon very fatty and the hashbrowns were hard and had to soften with beans. I thought I would try a Yorkshire pudding with my breakfast again this was hard and to crispy to eat. Vegetarian option - just got 2 veggie Sausages for the same price which would quite a while to cook and was told may have to eat separately in car if doesn't cook in time. Luckily we did not need more cooked should not be same price as no extra bacon or potatoes without bacon available for Vegetarians. Have rated a extra star for their good service but unfortunately the food let us down. Would not visit again would need to try other restaurants nearby.

Had a really nice dinner today, we were served by Bailey, he made sure our experience was seamless and enjoyable. Bailey's friendly attitude and willingness to accommodate every request made me feel valued as a guest. Hospitality is clearly second nature to Bailey, a real asset to the team. we will definitely return because of the exceptional service he provided

Bailey was as per usual outstanding & such a kind host, makes sure we are catered for in a very welcoming way, brings such a good atmosphere and remembers us as regular customers, we only really come back due to that loyalty factor, very uplifting, good hospitality and incredible duty to service.

You know what to expect but good, on the whole. Orange juice was very expensive, felt penalised for not drinking tea or coffee. Nice buffet all you can eat breakfast but need to cook the bacon more. I've never seen breakfast gravy and Yorkshire puddings before, that was a first!

Firstly- the food is absolutely dreadful. The meat is dry, and the veg is lacking taste. Anything that isn't on the carvery deck (eg, hot deserts and kids' food) is microwaved and disgusting. Furthermore, the children's food is absolutely pathetic, with the chicken burger being 3 tiny microwaved nuggets in a bun without anything else. The establishment itself is disgusting. Dust everywhere and bugs all around the walls. The building has also suffered many maintenance issues such as plumbing problems. The toilets are unclean at best and downright filthy at worst. While it's hard to say about the kitchen staff, waiters always seem incredibly overworked and stressed. Furthermore, the workers themselves are always gossiping to each other and sometimes treat their coworkers poorly. It appears to be a very hostile environment to work in. Furthermore, the waiters do not get to keep the tips given to them by card. Apparently, the card tips are spread out among the entire team (including the kitchen) by how many hours they have worked that month. I have also heard that waiters talk rudely about each other behind their backs like it's a children's playground with so much gossip going around about anyone and everyone who works there. Also, some Google reviews here are not genuine as I have witnessed managers make their employees give the place a 5 star rating, which is against Google's content guidelines. Cutlery is constantly dirty as well as the glasses with abundances of black specs once being found in my drink and what appeared to be some kind of stone between the prongs of my fork (which is also a choking hazard).

Awful breakfast with santa this morning. The santa was the worst I'd ever seen, zero effort, very clearly fake. No care for the children seeing he was clearly a young guy with a costume on who couldn't be botheredto be there. Very disappointing for young children excited to see santa. The breakfast was absolutely revolting, dry, bacon was cremated and swimming in fat. Lots of other people complaining. Staff appeared unscathed. Demanded a refund and left, won't be returning.

The lady we meet when we first went in who helped (we sat in the bar with our two dogs) was amazing! Tracey is one of the best people I've ever had helped or serve at a restaurant.

I eat breakfast at Toby carvery every other Saturday, always great. Forgot to register my car when I arrived a couple of weeks ago and got a parking fine letter. Went into the carvery at Amesbury today, showed the payment details on my bank account to the manager this morning. He was very helpful and deleted the the fine immediately. The service was above and beyond what I was expecting. I will be using the carvery at amesbury again. Very helpful staff.

Food never disappoints. Good value for a carvery and nice.and hot. Remembered to put car reg in this time. The ticket was cancelled though last time. Rang the Toby gave my reg, receipt details/date etc and they wiped it in 10 seconds! At least won't have to do that this time!!

So ok good fashion I'll start with a positive note. The food was pleasant, the parking was free, and the restaurant itself was clean and presentable However, we waited over 20 minutes in a very warm and noisy restaurant after being seated before I got up and asked someone (presumably in management) whether it's self-service or table service. He looked confused, acknowledged the lack of service, and someone came to the table a few minutes later. No apology, no sense of awareness nor ability to manage. I then had to explain to the server 4 or 5 times that my son has a mustard allergy, and she kept repeating statements about onion, and kept saying baby bowl as opposed to the child's bowl. Stressed my little boy out. Stressed me out to be honest. Finally, she said which meat was ok, but not the vegetables. I then asked for some of all the meats, and received the smallest and thinnest slices of meat I've ever seen in 28 years on this earth. The vegetables and macaroni pasta were tasty, but nothing to shout about, and there were refillable soft drinks but only one machine so there was a queue. The incompetency of the staff, and their general clueless nature, was outstanding and jaw dropping. Maybe it was just the staff we encountered, but I will never return here. I would suggest others follow suit. Go instead to the Harvester, McDonald's, KFC or one of the various other options available. Anywhere else would be better.

Toby Cavery's decision to partner with Euro Car Parks for car park management has left a sour taste. Their aggressive tactics of issuing fines for minor parking infringements, even when customers have dined at the restaurant, is a clear attempt to generate revenue rather than improve customer experience. This heavy-handed approach has alienated many loyal customers and tarnished the brand's reputation. It's a shame that a dining experience is overshadowed by the fear of receiving a hefty fine.

Came tonight with my partner and the service from Bailey was absolutely amazing. What a kind and lovely boy with fantastic customer service. He is a credit to the place. Also chuffed to find out there was 50% off for Black Friday! Will definitely be back :)

Went for dinner tonight and we were served by a lovely lad called Bailey. His service was 10/10 so polite and attentive and to be honest the best service we have had here. We will be back again soon.
