Toby Carvery in Sunderland

Had an amazing carvery with the family and our server Laura A was absolutely brilliant! So friendly and helpful and willing to help with a special request! Ten out of ten service!

Had Christmas lunch at the toby and was perfect. Had the best time with my family. Our server was Laura A and our carver was Chris. Both very helpful and went above and beyond to make it perfect. Food was amazing. Deffo booking again next year thanks guys for giving us the perfect Xmas lunch

Visited the Toby carvery today and was very disappointed on arrival was told that we could only sit in the bar area Wich was a total mess tables un cleared I had to go and find someone to come and clean the table so had to go and pay for lunch before we had it wich isn’t usually the case hear but that wasn’t a problem until we had to wait 50 minutes in the queue as the whole place today was just so unorganized the wait was a long time and and when we eventually got to the front of the queue to find there wasn’t a choice off meat’s that we had been charged for at the weekend rate and honestly the place was a disgrace wasn’t clean as it usually is some of vegetables were missing and had to wait for even longer to bring some out and when we got to the gravy section there wasn’t any gravy had to ask someone to get some for us what a shambles today if I was told all this was going on today when I paid for the lunch I would have chose to go somewhere else

Always a good experience at this Toby’s but Karen made our experience even better today. She was absolutely lovely and made every effort to chat to us and have a laugh.

Just been to have breakfast here with our daughter and son-in-law. Breakfast was good. Food hot and plenty to select. Only one thing coffee was not very hot. Our dog was allowed in too. So that's good. He's a people's dog. Loves getting attention.

Had breakfast here today. Bacon, Susage, fried egg, mushrooms, tined tomatoes and black pudding. Everything thing was good. Only 1 down side the black pudding was dry. We had coffee,

Breakfast very disappointing, Some of the plates not clean, by the time got my food to the table and buttered my toast the food was cold ! Coffee on the other hand was very nice

We were staying at the premier inn Washington and wanted an evening meal so this place seemed to fit the bill so we went in. We didn’t book but we did look at trip advisor for advice. We ignored what people said and went to try it for ourselves. What we did find was a lovely waitress who goes by the name of Karen. She walked us through the order process in a wonderful cheery manner and was around seemingly at every step of the way. Judging by the numbers flocking through the doors this place must be good or it would be empty. We in our small party of four all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I for one would eat there again.

We had an amazing carvery tonight. We arrived quite late and there was plenty of food. The yorkies were fab...we didn't really have room but took a pudding each which to was delicious and all so reasonably priced. The staff were all amazing and couldn't do enough for you...you could sense they were all a great team and enjoyed working together. Thank you all for a lovely evening 😊

Right... the positives - and there were a few. The food itself was very good. I had driven five hours from Wales and so was ready for a meal. When I eventually got it, it was tasty and there was plenty of it. There was no lamb on offer, which was disappointing as it was advertised but, to be fair, I arrived at 8.30pm and so maybe it had all gone by then. Toby Carvery, whatever you are paying Jurgita, it is nowhere near enough. She seemed to be pretty much running the place and 'running' was the right word. She never stopped dashing around the place and all done with a smile on her face. Take a bow, Jurgita, you are a credit to the company. The negatives....I had to wait for a good 20 minutes to order a meal I behind a large family who all wanted to pay in for one or two meals at a time... and all of whom seemingly had vouchers. It....took....forever and I genuinely thought about walking out a couple of times. Eventually, Jurgita sensed I was getting frustrated so stopped what she was doing to serve me a drink and told me to go to the carvery. I later learned it was the duty manager's first shift - fair enough - but have the good sense to put someone on the till system with him while he learns the ropes. I sensed they were seriously understaffed. The quality of the food saved the day, as did Jurgita... but there are definitely areas in which they could improve - namely staffing levels.

Great food always looks and tastes soo fresh, Yorkshire puddings are to die for! The staff are lovely and can’t do enough for you, always really chatty and friendly. Love visiting here

Our server was Ellie, and she was an absolute joy, I’m not sure I’d have a smile on my face like she did if I had to stay inside with weather like this, didn’t catch the carvers name but also a lovely fella, food is exactly how we expect it to be when going to a toby but this might be our new regular <3

Went to Toby Carvery Washington tonight as I had a £10 birthday voucher sent me on an E.mail stating that it was to be used on a spend of £25 or over. On arrival we showed our voucher and were told it would be deducted off our final bill. The menu on the table was a set two or three course menu. At no point was it ever pointed out that this was a promotional menu. It certainly didn’t state that. On receiving our final bill the total was for 2 full price meals and deserts as opposed to the set menu price. Other guests agreed that we had not got the deal we thought we were getting and suggested the manageress could give us a goodwill gesture as we are pensioners and were extremely upset by the treatment. No goodwill gesture and not able to speak to the general manager until the middle of next week. Have been a regular customer at this establishment since it first opened. Will not be returning.

Emily and James were friendly and the food was great. We have just got off a plane and this was the perfect spot to fill up and save the dreaded food shop for another day.

Very convenient for where we were staying at the adjacent Premier Inn. Lovely food and excellent service from Melissa. Would highly recommend.

Food is just so bland, my son had the kids pasta which was awful, I had the cheese sandwich which again was awful with dry bread and very little tasteless filling and the carvery again was tasteless. Unfortunately it's my old dads favourite place so im made to go but every time it's just a disappointment and I leave feeling sad.

Friendly staff and some tasty wholesome food to be ate here, highly recommended. Server Karen made us feel welcome and had time to explain how things work. The carver James dished up a large portion for our king size plates

Came here for breakfast while staying at the Premier. As we were paying asked what we wanted to drink, asked for a cappuccino as I was given an empty mug i assumed there must be a machine, not the case a choice of mediocre filter coffee or tea. Where is the coffees listed on the menu. Also no orange juice unless you pay extra. Buffet breakfast was disgusting, rock hard bacon, look warm beans and half cooked black pudding.

Our server Mel was wonderful what a breath of fresh air, lovely food and great atmosphere. Chris the carver was very polite and friendly would definitely come back!

Bank holiday Monday lunch Arrived early ( first sitting) Greeted and shown to table Server helpful polite and accommodating Food carvery- lamb if I hadn’t watched the chef carve the lamb in front of me it could of been anything 3 slithers of meat Vegetables good selection but very cold and bland Gravy was translucent and tasteless Attempted to eat but it was so cold and bland my husband and I left the plate of food Server thought we were having a rest I advised no the good was bland tasteless and very cold . She apologised and said she would advise the chef. Bill came 2 carvery’s which were more than 3/4 left and 1 soda water £28.58 !! If the good had been edible the cost would irrelevant . We certainly will not return . Toby used to be a go to meal but not sure if it’s the kids eat for £1 deal has lead to standards dropping but definitely would not recommend

Cold & Tasteless, ate a few spoonfuls and couldn’t eat the rest shocking roast dinner worst i’ve ever had anywhere , Yorkshire was cold gravy no taste and no substance , , waitress asked myself and my wife were we having a rest as plate was full not touched we advised no we were finished for reasons given she said she would let the chef know however we were still charged full price for Bank holiday Monday £13 per head ! for a few mouthfuls of cold food

Called in for breakfast with my son and was happily greeted. Paid at the bar (good value) four a table. Made our way to the buffet average selection ran out of bacon eggs and beans. Took a good five minutes to replenish and good to go. Average fair could be hotter but good

Today was the reopening after the refurbishment. The place looks stunning and was needed. Laura A looked after us and welcomed us to the new look Toby. Could not fault the carvery. Everything cooked perfectly especially roast parsnips and the deef dripping roasties

Firstly, the lady who served us and the carvery staff were lovely. We travel alot for family weekends away and usually source a Toby on way home so we have eaten in a fair few over the years. Sadly this has been the worst food....

May I say before I start this review the waitress and waiters were great and very helpful.. no reflection on them. Booked Xmas lunch after having a decent carvery meal on a normal visit.’Also had a Xmas meal two years ago that was fine. Big mistake this year. Place crammed… we were sat next to a large family which wasn’t ideal with a 90 year old mum in tow… they were up and down with the kids which is understandable.. having to get past while my hubby was eating. I queued fir my mum and my own lunch as she can’t manage to… sat down… hubby then went fir his and had to wait 20 minutes!!!! We didn’t even manage to have lunch together if we had decided to eat it!! A long queue cheek by jowl in these COVID times …. Would have thought that they would have managed it far better. We were sat by a radiator which was good for elderly mum… but no… radiator not on…next to window …me and mum ended up with coats on part way through meal . I hardly ate any of meal.. it was cold and sloppy… my hubby left his… the beef if you can call it that… was a disgrace, he had to spit out the lumps of fat ..so he left his too. Mum ate her turkey which seemed fine.It was an awful dinner.. we had looked forward to this as we had mum to look after all day and evening and though we could have a bit relaxation with a nice lunch cooked for us.. but no.. ended up making food back home fir me and hubby as we were hungry as we left food. The only thing we enjoyed was dessert! Approx 160 pounds fir such sub standard food is not acceptable . Disgraceful.

I poppped in for coffee the other morning . Coffee quality poor . Staff ok Luckerly the place was quiet. For the present virus situation .One could hardly move between tables . Cramming as meny people in to the space as possible. I pity thd staff having to move round .

We visited Washington toby for a breakfast with santa .. As much as mine are getting a little older for this type of thing they both still enjoyed it. Staff very helpful and nothing was a problem to them. Only been for carvery in past but will definitely be back for there breakfasts.

We had a nice meal and Donna who served us was lovely. I’d had a really stressful day and left my bag in restaurant. When I realised and turned car round to go back in, she was standing at the door with it. Thanks Donna, we’ll definitely be back

I popped in as I was stopping next door in the Premier Inn. I was going to have a carvery but the queue was too long (kids off school) so I just had drinks and a starter. The staff were all professional and friendly.

We been twice for breakfast and dinner, the service is been extremely good, specially the barman for going out of his way to be helpful, I will recommend it any time. After almost two years the lockdown, we decide to have a try to have a Carvery and it was good experience, the Staff understand me and make us really welcome, thank you so much

Came here for Sunday tea. Only to discover they have no vegetarian food left. Apart from brie parcels. Staff really didn't care less. Very unhelpful. The man on the door thanked us as we left! We hadn't eaten. I did point this out! Its normal for them to run short of meat during the day too. Very, very disappointed

Arrived early evening at the Premier Inn, advised walk ins taken, so went across. Seated easily, decided on car very meal. Good choice of meats and size of meal. Lots of veg and huge Yorkshire puddings. Staff responded when asked to take orders for deserts and bill. Food ok
