Great service and food. Marie served us and she was so kind and helpful. The restaurant was very busy but Marie managed it so well and always had a smile on her face and nothing was too much bother. I'd definitely recommend this place to everyone and would love for Marie to know how great she was. Thank you.

we come from Hereford to Gloucester every year for shopping and a Toby Carvery before we go home. This time we left very disappointed. The meat portions were tiny. 2 slithers off the joint and a few scraps from the tray. The roast potatoes were so dry we couldn't cut them, All veg were tasteless apart from the carrots. Even the stuffing was sloppy. Good news was our 7 year old .loved the macaroni cheese! We didn't order puds this time as didn't want to stay. Shame as used to be a lovely place to visit. Desperately needs renovation. We will not be visiting again.

Tabel was ready how ever, queuing for food was 30mins there was only one chef carving the meat, by the time you was served the veg had either all gone or looked dried and shriveled up like it had been sat there for hours. The graveyard’s had all been mixed up and have peoples veg in such as peas etc which is not good cross contamination with someone who is coeliac disease/gluten free. The toilets were disgusting with empty bottles and tissue on the floor. When we raised the issue of service and food for Calvert with manager we was told we are under staffed and over run like this was an excuse….. they knew the bookings they had and kept accepting walk ins so it’s down to their management to make sure they have enough staff or don’t accommodate more customers. The staff then proceeded to talk behind our backs which they were caught red handed.

Great service today at the Toby Carvery by Kaya, was a lovely carvery and would recommend to others. Raffle number is 69.

Back to the Toby carvery we had not eaten here for quite while so we were all really looking forward to it and must say thoroughly enjoyed our meal which tasted great ,those beef dripping roast potatoes 😋,all very good and the service was spot on all staff were very attentive and polite couldn't fault it ,our children managed to fit a desert in which they loved too , really enjoyed our visit and see you again .many thanks.😁

Great food, friendly staff, busy but good service..

Really disappointed, eggs were overcooked, lots of uncollected toast, one rude member of staff spoils it for the others who were lovely. Music was blasting out at breakfast which wasn't great.

Lunch on Friday, very disappointed,cold plates, food only warm , soon went cold , and the dining room and specially window sills could definitely do with a good clean , very grubby, although Dean was helpful and polite, he was the only positive.

Beautiful fresh meal out for lunch today with family and friends Nothing was too much trouble and Courtney w was the friendliest waitress we’ve come across at highnam! Refreshing to see a young woman that enjoys her work :) :)

More staff needed we ordered drinks and the glass arrived just before we finished meals which wasnt up to you usual standard i know its been a busy week with half term but there was no crackling no offered the king size option roasters were to hard to cut mash was luke warm and veg was not at its best and needed to be replenished the young waitress was friendly and she kept saying sorry for waiting time and that we left are food when i said it wasnt the best weve had she apologised and walked away

Our waiter Dean was extremely helpful with drinks and food, helping us with Vegan choices. The food was OK although the roast potatoes that were suitable for Vegans were very hard to cut and eat and there were only 3 vegetables available for the 4 of us. But we enjoyed our meal and evening and the apple pie 🥧 was yummy 😋

Great service, was greeted by a lovely young man as we walked through the door who showed us to the table, we were then served by a fantastic waitress named Kirsty who tended to our every need and even helped my grandmother out with carrying food back to the table and the food was great

The welcome wasn't great, everything seemed too much for those behind the bar where you paid for your breakfasts. Staff behind the servery were sour faced and when we asked a question the reply was short and given in a gruff manner. The food was very greasy except the black pudding which was very dry. We were amused and slightly baffled by the presentation of "breakfast Yorkshire puddings with gravy".

Kirsty and the the team were fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal nothing was too much effort we will definitely be returning again!

Hi we have used this carvery many times so we thought we would book a table yesterday it was not that busy food was very bland and the staff where rude I know it's hot but my god there's rude and rude there was five of us I will not be returning here

Tasty breakfast all you can eat, loaded up and fuelled for the day ready for my golf day which I won thanking the breakfast for that

It's a Toby Carvery like any other but booking is a good shout as they get busy.

I find the food really good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend Toby Carvery at Highnam to anyone wanting an all you can eat carvery.

Popped down on Sunday evening to grab something quick to eat and was left standing at the front desk while the staff had a chat at the bar for than a staff member to walk past 5 min later to say someone will be with us, a woman than come over and I asked if you were still doing food and the response was I have to go and check..while you should know if you are still serving food or not, so far not great service. She than come back to say something which we could not understand as she had her head down and playing with her keys, which I replied are you still serving food and got a response of ‘yes, but will have to sit in the bar’, go to where she said to sit for another member of staff to tell me ‘i’m not to sit there and to sit on a table up the steps’, all the while leaning on a cupboard on her phone and talking to me with attitude while still on the phone. We ending up walking out as this was disgusting behaviour and disgraceful customer service. Was up there for a weekend trip from London and I’m also a AM for M&B company and am appalled at what happened in this Toby carvery. Your staff need to go back and do their customer service training again.

What’s the point in having a phone line if you NEVER answer. Ordered a takeaway and specifically gave instructions over the phone and it notes only to be sent the wrong order. Went on to ring over 15 times after only to be ignored, terrible service

Kaya was our server and was amazing, friendly and attentive. The food was spot on and really good price for the portions, will be coming again soon.

It's been a couple of years since I last had a carvery here. Quality and selection has definitely gone downhill.

I don’t expect a lot from a Toby Carvery but I normally go to the one in Brockworth which is so much better. The buffet was cold food and the mac and cheese was just plain pasta until we asked for a new one which came and was just pasta and cheese water. the food station itself was disgusting. it was covered in old dirty food and obviously hadn’t been cleaned or tidied in a while. the guy behind the bar (i think his name was ben) was lovely and super helpful but the food was super disappointing !!

I'm a fan of Toby Carvery anyway, but this one was excellent. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the sides were very good too, although the yorkies were a little crispier than I usually like. My son is a fussy eater but loved everything that was put on his plate. Our server, Charlotte, was very fast and friendly. Overall, it is a great place to get a good carvery.

The range of food, especially as we are vegetarians, was excellent. the service was second to none. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, great ambassadors for The Toby. I would have liked the plates to be a bit hotter, but that is my only improvement.

Family used for Hen do celebrations at 7pm on the 20/07/24 however all left very disappointed. Service was rushed, impolite and over all unsatisfactory. Food was also cold. The main complaint is based on the customer service, having 20+ people paying a large bill of which could have been spent somewhere else. The family were willing to pay a decent tip however the service cause the Toby staff to loose out on that opportunity. Please do better next time! :)

Average for a Toby, expensive on a Sunday.

Excellent quality carvery. Often four meats to choose from and a great selection of vegetables, gravies and sauces. They've recently reorganised the serving area so that it's less crowded at busy times. Gets EXTREMELY busy at the weekend so plan to have to wait a while if you're looking for Sunday lunch.

This lady as shown in the pictures shouldn’t have the job she has the most disgusting behaviour I’ve ever witnessed in a carvery restaurant! Came from Bristol to be treated like garbage from this lady that’s so clearly self centred 😡 she proceeded to shout at me and my girlfriend because we where at the colouring station just behind the please wait here sign and she storms past to help other people before us and then starts talking to us like we are stupid! I I’ll never return to this dump

My partner and I went there for the first time. However, we're welcomed with an absolutely unpleasant first impression. The manager decided to serve the customers who came after us. After serving them, she came back to us and started off the conversation in a very disgusting manner just because we stood just beyond "please wait to be seated" desk.

Food order is wrong, stuffing missing, the most pathetic portion sizes and hardly ANY vegetables on any of the meals! Barely any gravy at all in the pots. £40 completely wasted! Never ordering again!

The manager on duty, she was lovely and has to deal with the abuse hurled at her by members of the general public, who then proceed to take photos of her and team without consent, it’s disgusting the lengths people go to and treat hospitality staff. I can never fault this place the team are wonderful and always do everything they can for you.

Booked for Breakfast 10.45...told by a young lady Breakfast finishing 5mins....asked for a cup of tea ..she said hurry up because we are turning it off....moral of this ...Don't take bookings & then told too hurry....

This is the best Toby carvery I have been to. Food is nice and hot and well cooked and tender meats. Staff are very pleasant and friendly. Will be returning again.

Cauliflower cheese must be boiled, so soft and watery, almost mushy. Couldn’t taste any cheese in the sauce either. Ruined the rest of the plate

Always good food. Had a meal on Wed 26 June unfortunatly the air condition was not working which was like this 12 months ago. I hate having to eat out and sit in sauna conditions like will wait for cooler weather before going back.

Sadly veg was very shrivelled, especially the peas. The male chef they were due a refresh, I waited only to told by female chef they had been refreshed. Clearly not as they were not changed from the time we walked in. Female chef was rather off hand.

Food was burnt. Carrots were completely dry. Potatoes burnt and inedible. . Meat was fatty. Peas under cooked. Filled box with cauliflower cheese. Portion size wasn’t appropriate Contacted restaurant and they said it had to be refunded by you.

Meal was stone cold. Servery opposite windows which were wide open. In our opinion needs a good clean.

Plenty of food, decent quality and very good price. Good kids menu, particularly puddings. Service was generally good, occasionally slow but understandable given it was busy. Drinks were expensive.

Very friendly staff and great service I had the carvery which gave a choice of three meats. Beef, pork and gammon there was a wide range of accompaniments, such as Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes mash and vegetables, with graviee and sauces.

For the price, it's a good deal, plenty of food and there is always discounts on offer. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Very disappointed that you can’t get a coffee at 8.50pm as they’ve shut the machine! Ridiculous! This is the second time this has happened. Not good enough. Won’t be going again.

Really disappointed with my order. I ordered vegetarian roast. All the vegetables were mushy and cold. Gravy served separate (great idea) but cold ! Love Tobys to dine in. Will never order take out again.

Lady at front desk didn't raise a smile the whole time we were there.Quite abrupt really! Dean the waiter was lovely.Food was luke warm and tasteless.Turkey was very dry. All in all a very disappointing experience.And just to.add £8.40 for 2 diet drinks is shameful.I know they were refillable but most people would only have one drink.with their dinner! Rip.off doesn't cover it! Won't be back anytime soon

My Wife & I called by after shopping in Gloucester, on the way home for Lunch on Wednesday 5th June at 11.50am, to find that at lunch time they only offered Sandwiches or the the Carvery at lunch time. So we selected the Carvery which started at 12.00 noon. The food was, in my opinion not fit for purpose, the peas were hard and dried up, the portion of meats cut could have been put into an egg cup, the Onion gravy was empty of gravy, the Carrots were dry at that time of day and the mashed potatoes were very watery. I spoke to the chef serving the 'slithers' of meat and told him he was the first chef I had ever met who could cut meat thinner than a piece of paper. Very poor meal and I would not recommend this venue for the Lunch Carvery. Have since tried to speak to Manager/Manageress by phone but no response as phone just rings out. Wish now that we we had driven past and eat at our local Venue, the (Bunch of Carrots in Hampton Bishop, Herefordshire, a far better venue who serve excellent food, which I would Highly recommend one should visit). The service was good when we actually managed to get a table. Granted I arrived early but still had to wait 10 mins to be seated. I was less impressed with the food. The mash was very watery and along with the beef dripping roasties were tasteless and was a complete disappointment

I know you can get posh if you want to about breakfast but in terms of value for money, a Toby breakfast is unbeatable. There are enough endless options for you to only have what you like or if you like it all, even better!

God there’s this hot ginger waitress who works here. In her section today and it was the best service I’ve ever got. Remember to tip her for it tho 😉. She’s called Harri, thank me later.

Been to lots of Toby carvery ,This was one of the best ,dropped in for breakfast, very nice atmosphere great welcome, and bar service ,the food was very good nice and hot (not Luke warm like some ). Toilets were very clean ,good parking (No having to log In reg) will definitely call in again

I visited Toby carvery as it was a recommendation to me. I was not disappointed I had fabulous service by Lucy, she went above and beyond her duties to serve me and my friend.

Of all the Toby carveries I have had, this is one I was disappointed with this one. All good was pretty tasteless, meat very thinly carved and not much of it. Sweetcorn as a vegetable choice is questionable

Got told to sit outside because there were no inside tables free, half the place was empty. Tables outside stacked high with dirty plates nobody came to clear in 2 hours. Went to order and was told they are not doing anything from the menu at all apart from kids meals and carvery because it's a Monday. Waited 45 minutes for kids meals, went and asked where they were and was given dry burnt food that had been left under a heater for over half an hour. Charged over £50 for the pleasure

Sun is out, so we popped into the Toby Carvery for a pint and some team on the very sunny, warm day. Quite busy and worth a good atmosphere. We sat outside to enjoy the weather. Bar service was efficient and staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a couple of drinks and ordered a couple of carverys. Good choice of food all looked very tasty. However, sadly, whilst it looked good, it was all pretty tasteless and lacking flavour. So it was a bit of a letdown. Can't complain about the price. It was reasonable and very fair, just a shame the quality of the food let it down.

We love Toby Carvery and visit often to Highnam. Food only gets a 4 as I'd like it to be a bit hotter (personal preference I know) otherwise fantastic value for money. Served by Dean this time, absolutely great, attentative and witty too. Made our visit!
