Toby Carvery in Tewkesbury

How the heck can they say that it's the "Home of the roast". I think Britons were enjoying roast lunches long before Toby existed. Been here many times and would describe the food as passable but not great. Visited late in the afternoon. Was difficult to get served - no-one at the food counter and required 3 requests by waiting staff for someone to come and carve the meat. The food was barely warm and a strange taste pervaded all the items which left me feeling nauseous. Potatoes were leathery and extremely difficult to cut. Maybe this was something to do with going later in the day?

Over half the restaurant was empty from the time we arrived to the time we left yet we were told there wasn’t availability. Tried to raise an issue with whom I assume to be a member of management but she walked off mid conversation. Think the goats from the farm next door could give better customer service.

Ordered carvery 20.10.24, for selected time with Uber,order was half an hour late and cold . Roast potatoes were burnt, inedible, had mashed potato despite me requesting not to . Driver did not ask me for confirmation number . Total disappointment. Don’t normally use Uber and will never again . No updates to why late . No apology . Would not recommend. Normally am very happy with Highnam, but not on this occasion. I tried to ring to complain , phone went unanswered.

I put in notes No Peas and ever time peas are on my food , sometimes extra peas. They really need to read the notes as people with Allergies are suo

Booked online using the app. On arrival table wasn’t ready which I did except as it was Sunday evening. Was then asked to wait in the bar and they would call us. 30 mins later we still hadn’t been called So we went back the the booking desk and they had completely forget about us then have the nerve to say we should have come back after waiting ten minutes. Extremely poor service. Will never go there again.

Dean host was great food as good as always very nice experience. We are regulars at this toby because service so good when Dean looks after us .

Delivery wasn’t on time, food was freezing cold, potatoes are baked, not roasted. Tastes disgusting, went in the bin, requested a refund.

Missed order notes AGAIN and decided not to bother sending roast potatoes. Rubbish - ended up in the bin.

Meat cut to thin!!!! Even though I paid for extra. Price of 330ml coke £3.50 Toby being a bit greedy in my opinion.

No problem with food and service both as you would expect from a Toby Carvery. However the seating ie the chairs we were sitting on looked like they had been collected from a skip. All I could observe were tatty and ripped. You don't smarten yourself to go out to eat to sit on chairs that need to go to The Repair Shop or back to the skip. I like a Toby Carvery so will continue to use other venues but not Highnam. Sorry.

The food was what you think a carvery would be, yes it was a Sunday but surely you would think the staff would focus on getting the line down rather than chatting to their mates we was waiting over 20 in a line then…asking for a bowl to separate my sons food as he has autism and hates food touching seemed to be a chore for the guy but after asking 2 times I got it… as said I would separate at table .. seemed like a discussion in front of strangers I really didn’t have to have as he didn’t each much anyway as he had already seen the food mix so that was a stressful time and a waste of time On the plus side Dean our server was lovely and amazing with kids

Way too hot, no ventilation on a hot day. Other than heat was enjoyable meal.

I don't enjoy queuing, but it really is worth it for the quality of the carvery. A bonus is the chatter that goes on while queuing. The seating could be better, but with your meal in front of you that's the focus. Truly enjoyed the experience, certainly will return.

The staff have lied to me on 2 separate occasions, one this occasion even they lied to my wife, and a very rude customer thinking he could try and bully me by trying to tell me to leave when I'd already decided that. I don't know who he was, but he needs to think again thinking he would beat me just because I'm 30 years older than him. Maybe that was why he poked his nose in - he was a bully, and thought he could be a man in front of his wife daughters, staff, and customers.

It’s a better than average Toby Carvery, visited on a Thursday just after the lunch rush! Yorkshire Puddings gets bigger and looks great but perhaps not as good as they used to be…. Tasted very bland. Meat excellent however veg choices lacking and potentially the worst roast potato’s I’ve ever had. Over cooked on the outside but cold in the middle - I suspicion is they were cooked and reheated or had been cooked off and left to hot hold for a long time. End of the day a meal for just over a tenner….

We have been here several times over the last two years and at first it was great, but the last few visits we have left feeling really disappointed. Today it was very busy. We queued for about 25 minutes at the Carvery and the food was luke warm and tastless. The meat was very fatty and the roast potatoes hard. The gravy and sauces area was disgusting, I know spillages are frequent, but it wouldn't hurt a passing staff member to give it a quick wipe over every now and then. Gutted to have wasted £37 on two roast dinners and two soft drinks. We won't be returning again.

We didn't have the roast dinner .we ordered from the menu, and the food was cold . Meat very chewy and fatty the potatoes very over cooked with rock hard skin so we couldn't even eat them. Looks like they just chucked it on the plate. Had to ask for a refund .not happy

Great service and food. Marie served us and she was so kind and helpful. The restaurant was very busy but Marie managed it so well and always had a smile on her face and nothing was too much bother. I'd definitely recommend this place to everyone and would love for Marie to know how great she was. Thank you.

Poor quality carvery. Selection of veg was poor and only just warm. The staff just blamed it on being busy. I ordered the brie parcel and was told to wait 5mins before going up to get my veg. I gave it about that time in which the chef said it wasn't quite ready so to help myself to the veg and someone would bring the brie parcel over. I had just finished eating the veg when it was brought out so about 10mins later. We won't be going again has that has to be one of our worst experiences

Carvery was really nice, plenty of meat and veggies. The only downside was £3.55 for a bottle of Coke! Having said that, overall it was good value.

Kids ate for £1 so very pleased when I saw the bill today for 2 adults & 2 children.

we come from Hereford to Gloucester every year for shopping and a Toby Carvery before we go home. This time we left very disappointed. The meat portions were tiny. 2 slithers off the joint and a few scraps from the tray. The roast potatoes were so dry we couldn't cut them, All veg were tasteless apart from the carrots. Even the stuffing was sloppy. Good news was our 7 year old .loved the macaroni cheese! We didn't order puds this time as didn't want to stay. Shame as used to be a lovely place to visit. Desperately needs renovation. We will not be visiting again.

Stood queuing for nearly 45 minutes to get our food was just ridiculous. Not least because it's cramped and stuffy, but my friend has autism / anxiety issues and was really very upset by the whole experience. By the time we actually got our food we were tired, uncomfortable, and frankly pretty fed up. It completely ruined our meal.

Tabel was ready how ever, queuing for food was 30mins there was only one chef carving the meat, by the time you was served the veg had either all gone or looked dried and shriveled up like it had been sat there for hours. The graveyard’s had all been mixed up and have peoples veg in such as peas etc which is not good cross contamination with someone who is coeliac disease/gluten free. The toilets were disgusting with empty bottles and tissue on the floor. When we raised the issue of service and food for Calvert with manager we was told we are under staffed and over run like this was an excuse….. they knew the bookings they had and kept accepting walk ins so it’s down to their management to make sure they have enough staff or don’t accommodate more customers. The staff then proceeded to talk behind our backs which they were caught red handed.

Unfortunately most of the gravy had spilt, some of the order was missing and the beef was mostly just fat. The rest of the food was fine.

As a vegan I would like to highlight the fact that vegan carvery is very doable, and at a great price. You have a few options, main course and veg or just a giant vegetable carvery only. Either way you will be full to the brim. I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you to Toby Carvery

Arrived without a booking and was told there would ld be a wait but couldn't say for how long and they were unwilling to take our name to let us know when a table would be free. Sat in the bar and managed to book a table online for 10 minutes time. Came up to get our booked table and the desk initially would not believe we had booked a table. They wanted to see our confirmation email before they seemingly reluctantly shown us to a table. We were made to feel totally unwelcome initially but had no problems with service once we were at our table.

Great service today at the Toby Carvery by Kaya, was a lovely carvery and would recommend to others. Raffle number is 69.

Seriiusly dont waste your money.if you think this is a toby carvery think again It was stone cold a spoonful of peas,carrotts and cauli cheese. Yorkshire pudding and mash potatoe that was vile.roasters came in seperate bag and the were stone cold.

Service was poor, we had to keep asking for our drinks, it took ages to get two children's ice creams. Our waitress made no effort to engage with us and seemed very disinterested.

Clean the place would help. Tables filthy upon arrival, floor under table covered in food. Plates given at carvery were not clean. Cutlery had dried food on them and needed to be replaced. Back to the Toby carvery we had not eaten here for quite while so we were all really looking forward to it and must say thoroughly enjoyed our meal which tasted great ,those beef dripping roast potatoes 😋,all very good and the service was spot on all staff were very attentive and polite couldn't fault it ,our children managed to fit a desert in which they loved too , really enjoyed our visit and see you again .many thanks.😁

Really disappointed, eggs were overcooked, lots of uncollected toast, one rude member of staff spoils it for the others who were lovely. Music was blasting out at breakfast which wasn't great.

Lunch on Friday, very disappointed,cold plates, food only warm , soon went cold , and the dining room and specially window sills could definitely do with a good clean , very grubby, although Dean was helpful and polite, he was the only positive.

More staff needed we ordered drinks and the glass arrived just before we finished meals which wasnt up to you usual standard i know its been a busy week with half term but there was no crackling no offered the king size option roasters were to hard to cut mash was luke warm and veg was not at its best and needed to be replenished the young waitress was friendly and she kept saying sorry for waiting time and that we left are food when i said it wasnt the best weve had she apologised and walked away

Our waiter Dean was extremely helpful with drinks and food, helping us with Vegan choices. The food was OK although the roast potatoes that were suitable for Vegans were very hard to cut and eat and there were only 3 vegetables available for the 4 of us. But we enjoyed our meal and evening and the apple pie 🥧 was yummy 😋

Great service, was greeted by a lovely young man as we walked through the door who showed us to the table, we were then served by a fantastic waitress named Kirsty who tended to our every need and even helped my grandmother out with carrying food back to the table and the food was great

The welcome wasn't great, everything seemed too much for those behind the bar where you paid for your breakfasts. Staff behind the servery were sour faced and when we asked a question the reply was short and given in a gruff manner. The food was very greasy except the black pudding which was very dry. We were amused and slightly baffled by the presentation of "breakfast Yorkshire puddings with gravy".

Hi we have used this carvery many times so we thought we would book a table yesterday it was not that busy food was very bland and the staff where rude I know it's hot but my god there's rude and rude there was five of us I will not be returning here

Tasty breakfast all you can eat, loaded up and fuelled for the day ready for my golf day which I won thanking the breakfast for that

No gravy for the roasts ordered 2, but the custard had gravy in it for the desert

It's a Toby Carvery like any other but booking is a good shout as they get busy.

Popped down on Sunday evening to grab something quick to eat and was left standing at the front desk while the staff had a chat at the bar for than a staff member to walk past 5 min later to say someone will be with us, a woman than come over and I asked if you were still doing food and the response was I have to go and check..while you should know if you are still serving food or not, so far not great service. She than come back to say something which we could not understand as she had her head down and playing with her keys, which I replied are you still serving food and got a response of ‘yes, but will have to sit in the bar’, go to where she said to sit for another member of staff to tell me ‘i’m not to sit there and to sit on a table up the steps’, all the while leaning on a cupboard on her phone and talking to me with attitude while still on the phone. We ending up walking out as this was disgusting behaviour and disgraceful customer service. Was up there for a weekend trip from London and I’m also a AM for M&B company and am appalled at what happened in this Toby carvery. Your staff need to go back and do their customer service training again.

What’s the point in having a phone line if you NEVER answer. Ordered a takeaway and specifically gave instructions over the phone and it notes only to be sent the wrong order. Went on to ring over 15 times after only to be ignored, terrible service

Kaya was our server and was amazing, friendly and attentive. The food was spot on and really good price for the portions, will be coming again soon.

It's been a couple of years since I last had a carvery here. Quality and selection has definitely gone downhill.

Everything was perfect as always.

I don’t expect a lot from a Toby Carvery but I normally go to the one in Brockworth which is so much better. The buffet was cold food and the mac and cheese was just plain pasta until we asked for a new one which came and was just pasta and cheese water. the food station itself was disgusting. it was covered in old dirty food and obviously hadn’t been cleaned or tidied in a while. the guy behind the bar (i think his name was ben) was lovely and super helpful but the food was super disappointing !!

I'm a fan of Toby Carvery anyway, but this one was excellent. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the sides were very good too, although the yorkies were a little crispier than I usually like. My son is a fussy eater but loved everything that was put on his plate. Our server, Charlotte, was very fast and friendly. Overall, it is a great place to get a good carvery.

The range of food, especially as we are vegetarians, was excellent. the service was second to none. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, great ambassadors for The Toby. I would have liked the plates to be a bit hotter, but that is my only improvement.

Family used for Hen do celebrations at 7pm on the 20/07/24 however all left very disappointed. Service was rushed, impolite and over all unsatisfactory. Food was also cold. The main complaint is based on the customer service, having 20+ people paying a large bill of which could have been spent somewhere else. The family were willing to pay a decent tip however the service cause the Toby staff to loose out on that opportunity. Please do better next time! :)

Average for a Toby, expensive on a Sunday.

Excellent quality carvery. Often four meats to choose from and a great selection of vegetables, gravies and sauces. They've recently reorganised the serving area so that it's less crowded at busy times. Gets EXTREMELY busy at the weekend so plan to have to wait a while if you're looking for Sunday lunch.

This lady as shown in the pictures shouldn’t have the job she has the most disgusting behaviour I’ve ever witnessed in a carvery restaurant! Came from Bristol to be treated like garbage from this lady that’s so clearly self centred 😡 she proceeded to shout at me and my girlfriend because we where at the colouring station just behind the please wait here sign and she storms past to help other people before us and then starts talking to us like we are stupid! I I’ll never return to this dump

The manager on duty, she was lovely and has to deal with the abuse hurled at her by members of the general public, who then proceed to take photos of her and team without consent, it’s disgusting the lengths people go to and treat hospitality staff. I can never fault this place the team are wonderful and always do everything they can for you.

Food order is wrong, stuffing missing, the most pathetic portion sizes and hardly ANY vegetables on any of the meals! Barely any gravy at all in the pots. £40 completely wasted! Never ordering again!

My partner and I went there for the first time. However, we're welcomed with an absolutely unpleasant first impression. The manager decided to serve the customers who came after us. After serving them, she came back to us and started off the conversation in a very disgusting manner just because we stood just beyond "please wait to be seated" desk.

This is the best Toby carvery I have been to. Food is nice and hot and well cooked and tender meats. Staff are very pleasant and friendly. Will be returning again.

Booked for Breakfast 10.45...told by a young lady Breakfast finishing 5mins....asked for a cup of tea ..she said hurry up because we are turning it off....moral of this ...Don't take bookings & then told too hurry....

Cauliflower cheese must be boiled, so soft and watery, almost mushy. Couldn’t taste any cheese in the sauce either. Ruined the rest of the plate
