This review is for The Restaurant We were there on Wednesday 15th January, and were VERY disappointed on this occasion. The food wasn't hot enough, roast potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings were inedible.overall the meal was awful. I've been many times, and hv highly recommend The Toby, but, sadly this visit left us VERY unimpressed!. The service and the staff were great tho' This was for a family event, and sadly this spoilt the event for us.hopefully u will follow this up for us,thanking u in anticipation

Upon entry to the restaurant on St johns road in Edinburgh we were warmly welcomed by staff whom took us both to our seats where we were asked if we would like refreshments while we order so we had a drink each then ordered the carvery and took plates to the server where the young man was lovely as we asked him how he was and he's said yeah I'm great as he carved delicious cuts of meat he asked how we were now that's lovely get to know who your serving he recommended anytime we are in or around morning try the breakfast as uts delicious he told us he does breakfasts mostly what a great asset to Toby Carvery We got our roasts, veg, pasta, gravy and dined and must say the neats were cooked to perfection and truly succulent so tasty especially topped with gravy all the roasts, veg , pasta and yorkies were just spot on washed down with more drinks we finished and upon paying we thanked the girl for her great table service and new to the app we.opened it and noticed we had 25% off the food bill so made an even greater experience and we said we certainly will be back and will be recommending this specific Toby

We come here every month for our girls lunch date we wouldn’t consider going anywhere else.

This is a review on the restaurant as apposed to the hotel; We got the carvery and it was delicious. Very good quality meals for a very affordable pricing. (Also highly recommend the poppin’ chicken) Excellent service from Dom, who explained how the system worked and was very helpful. Highly recommend stopping in!

We've gone as a family for years and we've always had a reasonably good time. The carvery is nice and since the refurb it's looking a lot better. The staff are really nice especially an older blonde lady who has worked there for years and is always lovely. The only issue we have found is quote often the bar mess up drink orders and we have to send them back but otherwise it's a decent carvery.

The location is good, and the rooms were neat and clean, but the size of the room was small with no lifts to carry luggage.

Easy to reach from the airport, with a short walk. Very good connections to the city. The staff is super friendly. The rooms are very noisy, there was no closet, and it is a bit louder towards the front. Breakfast is typically British, porridge is only available for an additional charge. Orange and apple juice are distributed by the glass.

Do not go at Hogmany in the evening. Poor selection of vegetables and roast potatoes were cooked ages ago. No atmosphere but to be fair the Street party was cancelled so maybe thats the reason

Visited today from down south and was greeted with a most welcoming smile and cheerful manner from Simona . It made a cold morning so much better after long journey. She also took time to make sure we knew where everything was and if we needed further help. The customer service standards are outstanding and I hope management take time to acknowledge this. I will return and can't recommend this Toby carvery enough Many thanks to this lady again for a great morning ..

Went with a large group of friends for food for christmas celebrations, we were incredibly accomodated, food was great and it made for a fun night

The hotel is great. The rooms are small, but very cosy and clean. The breakfast is one of the best I've had in a hotel, very plentiful. The service is incredibly friendly, but authentic and not artificial. The location is a bit far from the tram, but there are several buses. The price is high, but unfortunately this is no different throughout Scotland. All in all, top.

All of your staff were absolutely fabulous and went that extra mile.

We booked for breakfast with friends. On arrival it was clear that they were short staffed and had to wait over 5 minutes to be seated. For the price we paid, the food was over cooked and dry. The service was non existent and there was no ambiance whatsoever. We will not be returning and I’d think twice before booking. So disappointing.

Meals only, we didn't stay there. For lovers of traditional and hearty dishes.

I have just had a carvery lunch with my sister. and we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we stepped in the front door! We were shown to our table which wasn’t quite as comfortable for our needs as we would have liked and I had forgotten to mention on my booking about having a booth close to carvery so we could manage to carry our plates to the table, I asked if it was possible to move and Pamela very quickly managed to move us to help make things easier for us then she continued to be super helpful and attentive to our and every other customers needs that she was serving! She is a real asset to your company and you can tell she enjoys her job as she goes the extra mile for her customers. The meal itself (we both had the carvery) was hot, fresh and delicious and served by a very jolly, friendly helpful chef, we both also had really yummy desserts that again were freshly made to order, All in all I can definitely say we will back in the new year to enjoy more of your friendly hospitality! I would give everyone we dealt with five stars! We thank you for your help and assistance when required!

Fantastic venue for high quality food (breakfast and carvery) at a fantastic price. The staff are excellent and very friendly, especially Pamela and Simona, who are happy to get to know their customers with a smile on their faces.

Fantastic morning. We enjoyed breakfast with Santa and the brownies got to sing some Christmas songs. The staff were amazing as was the food. A great morning all round! Can’t thank David, Chris and all the staff enough.

Breakfast was appalling, dry , over cooked and un edible. Dinner was ok. The meats were superb.

Service was great. Very friendly especially Amie. Food was dire. Meat dry and rough. Overcooked. Asked for fresh and was told no. Veg was dry and overcooked. Good value though.

The room service is terrible. They don't make more beds, they don't clean and one of the two rooms we took had a dirty bathroom from the first day. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Stale bacon, stale eggs, burnt sausages, very lousy pudding. And expensive as if everything were luxury... Only part of the bar staff, like Simona, is worth highlighting for her kindness and good treatment. The staff is the only notable thing that is saved.

The prawn cocktail starter was embarrassing. Very few prawns and they were tiny. Half a cherry tomato. Cheap bread. The roasties were disappointingly soft. The service was poor.

This is my first visit in a while, Didn't book a table but would recommend it. Nice staff and food is good. As the Christmas menu is on. It would be a good idea to book a table if you can.

Stayed here overnight, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless, warm, and cosy. Great for public transport both for the airport and the city centre.

Heart stopping moment didn't realise I'd left my wallet at home when I sat down for food was doing a minibus job so stopped for food while I waited on my passengers asked for the bill and couldn't find me wallet well I went into a panic thankfully my wife managed to call and pay by card as by this time I was searching the vehicle looking for my wallet, thnx to the staff for not ringing the police as it may have looked like I'd gone without paying 🙈 food was good but not a lot of meat but staff i couldn't fault them they do a good job in there never stopping looking after tables and customers thnx again

Visited with a group of friends for traditional Sunday roast! Excellent quality meat, as well as the side dishes, all delicious!

First time and never again !!! Thought the stuffing was toasted bread crumbs, cauliflower looked like mush and other veg' overcooked. Cheesecake taisted of nothing and weighed a ton. Dreadful value for money.

Hearty, generous, the dishes are good too! The staff is pleasant and courteous.

The quality of the food was amazing. The price was definitely fair. However, there wasn’t many options outside the english breakfast style. There should be the same amount of vegan protein as non-vegan protein. The coffee was too watered down, needs to be stronger. Lovely staff all around that made the experience perfect.

Food was absolutely delicious, as an Aussie visiting I had to try the famous Toby carvery and it didn’t disappoint. All staff were lovely, especially Ashleigh who took care of us was an absolute ray of sunshine! Would highly recommend

This review is on the restaurant and not the hotel, since we stayed locally elsewhere. The restaurant gave us a home-like atmosphere and food quality, with good hospitality from the staff. The food is not going to be “fancy” but that’s what makes it special - it gives you this home like sense. We actually loved it so much, we ate twice here and each time we were highly satisfied and full. We got the carvery roast. The beef and pork were excellent. In addition, the potatoes, Mac and cheese, veggies and cauliflower were done well and always warm. Although you could go up to refill on veggies and other items, we never did. We also got dessert both times and they were good. Highly recommend the sundae as it is for 2 people! Definitely worth visiting and they always had space, regardless of how busy it got. Thank you!

Good choice. Only seemed to be 1 waitress on serving on a Tuesday lunchtime. Had to wait a while for chef to appear at carvery. Meat and yorkshires lovely but veg very mushy. Could be better. Laurieston farm Toby preferred.

We arrived from a road trip and wanted to visit the city centre the next morning. It was great that we could park there and information about the bus connections was provided in the room information booklet. Journey to the center was quick and easy. At the evening of our arrival, we hadn't booked dinner, and although the restaurant was rather busy, the staff was very very helpful and friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate us and enabled us to get a table. The room was decent, and although next to the road still rather quiet. Only "negative" thing was that the room height in the bathroom was rather low, so my head was touching the shower head while taking a shower, but not a big problem (and I am rather tall) :). All in all highly recommended!

Went for lunch with family very friendly, helpful. A variety of different meats and vegetables. Staff lovely and talkative.

Solid carvery, our waitress Amie did a really good job, very good service. My only complaint is not enough meat but that's always the way with carveries so I won't hold it against them!

One of the best hotels I've stayed in. Impeccable service and great atmosphere down in the lounges...convenient location as the public transport stop is right outside the hotel. Free parking. Reserve a table in time to enjoy the buffet at a low price and very tasty food!

Right next to a bus stop. Room spacious. Maybe a little noisy right on the street. But ok for a city hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok. The continental breakfast produces tons of garbage...

The meat was the only thing edible The tongs and spoons were literally burning our hands trying to get any vegetables The veg was disgusting was all watery even the cauliflower and cheese, the macaroni was not good and the Yorkshire pudding the bottom left your mouth full of oil. The gravy was just water, first and last visit

We could not have asked for a better hotel right before flying out of Edinburgh. This place was a 15-min bus ride from the airport and the airport bus passes by every 10 minutes (only £5, too!). The dinner options were great even for our two toddlers. Beer tap options were also on point. They let us check our luggage since we arrived before check-in. This gave us ample, unburdened time to walk to the zoo.

I love this place but the last 3 weeks the tatties are like rock!!! I asked about them was told its the season for horrible tatties. Won't go back Sent email to customer care still awaiting Discusting service

Came for dinner with my family and from start to finish it everything was amazing. Service from Dom was very good. He attended to all our needs and was able to answer all our questions. We all had the carvery and all enjoyed this very much. Would recommend and will definitely be coming again 👍

I would love to give Toby's a 5-star review because it really is a great restaurant with good food at a great price (especially since we had a voucher code and got the Carvery for 6 pounds!) but I always find everything a bit overcooked. I realize it's a challenge to feed many people buffet style, but I'd like my beef a bit rarer and my veggies less mushy. On this occasion, the roasted potatoes were also overcooked and hard on the outside. On the positive, the Yorkshire puddings were delish and gravy fixes everything! Kudos to our waiter, Dom, who was the perfect combination of friendliness and efficiency. He made us feel like valued and welcome guests. We eat at Toby's regularly when we're in Edinburgh. It's such a good deal and, my criticisms aside, quite delicious.

Pamela was such good service and brilliant with the kids and always making sure we were OK food was also very fresh and well presented

Well since Toby's in corstorphine has been updated iv been a few times and I can honestly say the food is better especially the roasted potatoes the place feels warmer and the decor is nice and calmer. still one of my wife's and I favourite places for a munch x👍

You can get quite a bit of sides with your meal and it's decently cheap for UK prices but I don't personally think it's that worth the money.

We had a nice double room. Everything was neat and clean. We were very impressed with the service. All employees made our stay a pleasant one. The food in the restaurant is also very tasty and the service is in no way inferior. We received very friendly service from Dom and will definitely come back.

This is ideal for healthy options meals if you are in a weight watch club or just looking for a healthy and hearty meal.

Horriffic experience here on Monday night due to Donna! We were a group of three, with one vegetarian who ordered a vegatarian main which also allowed them access to the vegtable section of the carvery. Donna told us that she would bring the vegatarian plate over so my friend decided to wait and the rest of us went up for food. By the time we came back Donna had not arrived with the plate for my friend so she just went and got one from the carvery section and just stated that she was not getting the meat. We all had finished our first plates and Donna came over and asked if we had finished, to which the vegetarian replied "yes" but then said "no sorry i'm not" as she forgot she could go up for the unlimited veg. Donna then replied awwh are you now? We found this comment awkward. By this point the veggie main had still not arrived and it had been 40 minutes so we no longer wanted it. We tried to look for Donna but could not see her so we just called the first member of staff that we could see who happened to be Dom, who apologised for the situation. Two of us went up for another plate of veg and could hear Donna discussing the amount of plates we were having with Dom. This was now the second time our eating habits were mentioned by Donna, making us feel judged. Donna then came over and said to my veggie friend that "she should have told her that the dish wasn't out" to which she replied "Oh i'm sorry he was just the first person we saw as we couldnt see you" and Donna replies "yeah well that was the manager and you got me in trouble." After saying this she walked away giving us no time to respond and we were unaware if she was joking or not but just left it. We then asked or the bill once we were all finshed and noticed that the veggie meal recieved a disocunt of £1.20 for not having the main part of it. We were not happy with this as we believe it was not a fair discount for not recieving the main componant of the meal so wanted to bring this up with Donna. We then saw Donna go over to the veg section and take a roast potoato with her bare hands and eat it in the middle of the restaurant floor. After she finshed her mid-shift snack we caught her attention and she came over. She was immediantely hostile when we asked if there was a chance we could get it reduced a bit further as we did not receive the main compentent of the veggie meal. Her response was "did u eat the veg?cause you arent getting free veg. you should have said to me before you went up for your second plate" My veggie friend then stated that she did not get a second plate as she was expecting her main and didn't know at that point she wouldnt recieve it as she thought it would have still been cooking. It wasnt until the 40 minute mark that she realised there was no main coming soon. Donna continued saying how we weren't getting the veg carvery for free which none of us once said. We then asked to speak to the manager. Donna shouted over the restaurant to Dom and walked towards him in earshot of us and lied to him saying that we were asking for a free meal which was not the case. Dom then said no but never spoke to us personally. Donna came back over and my friend asked again that we would like to speak to the manager and not throught you. Dom then just said he'll just take it off the bill and walked away to print out the new bill. Donna stayed at the table and then decided to point at other stuff of the bill asking what else we want for free. Donna then said i'll just let Dom cash you out. Dom then took us out of the resturant and cashed us out at the bar. As we were paying Donna then came over to the bar and looked at how much we paid. She was called out for this action by my friend as she said "not her running over to see how much we paid". Very horrible service we are a group of three young women and believe that is why we were treated like this as the other customers was older and did not recieve the tone we did when Donna spoke to them.

Enjoyed our meal, but the selection of meat and vegetables had dried under the heat lamps where the food had been sitting there for a while and didn't look very appetising but tasted okay

We dined here on a Sunday afternoon. The service was excellent. The quality of food was as expected. We loved it. This is our second time visiting this Toby Cavery, and we will definitely be back.

Lovely stay just outside of Edinburgh for RARE24 book event. Good sized well kept room and quiet enough even though situated on main road (my room was roadside too). Good security for hotel entry. Breakfast buffet style full English which for price was fine plus bread and toaster but not so good if have fussy eaters. Staff all lovely and polite, very welcoming. Bus stop just outside for easy access into Edinburgh centre and about 5 mins down Rd from Edinburgh zoo. Will def be checking out for future visit

Very much enjoyed the roasts, all were nicely prepared and tasty. However, we paid for the extra plate and were disappointed with the amount we received. If that was extra, we hate to see what the regular would be! The vegetables we found were all cold. We ordered a pint of Stewart's 80% which tasted stale. It was replaced by a pint of Belhaven Best which was good. Friendly staff but we felt the overall experience was very average.

Amy is really helpful and very pleasant she went through all the menu with us. She was very much smiling at customers. She deserves to get a higher position.

The hotel is slightly outside the center but the public services are excellent. Parking available in the back. The street is quite busy but the room was not noisy. Good sized room, clean and welcoming. The bathroom in order. Necessary for making a hot drink and a kettle. Dinner in the restaurant disappointed me a little, breakfast was good.
