We could not have asked for a better hotel right before flying out of Edinburgh. This place was a 15-min bus ride from the airport and the airport bus passes by every 10 minutes (only £5, too!). The dinner options were great even for our two toddlers. Beer tap options were also on point. They let us check our luggage since we arrived before check-in. This gave us ample, unburdened time to walk to the zoo.

Came for dinner with my family and from start to finish it everything was amazing. Service from Dom was very good. He attended to all our needs and was able to answer all our questions. We all had the carvery and all enjoyed this very much. Would recommend and will definitely be coming again 👍

I love this place but the last 3 weeks the tatties are like rock!!! I asked about them was told its the season for horrible tatties. Won't go back Sent email to customer care still awaiting Discusting service

Had a lovely lunch today with family. Food was fresh and delicious but the service was incredible. Mrs Toby is an absolute gem. Couldn't do enough for us. Thank you again!

Visit was to have a Carvery on Sunday 13/10/2024

I would love to give Toby's a 5-star review because it really is a great restaurant with good food at a great price (especially since we had a voucher code and got the Carvery for 6 pounds!) but I always find everything a bit overcooked. I realize it's a challenge to feed many people buffet style, but I'd like my beef a bit rarer and my veggies less mushy. On this occasion, the roasted potatoes were also overcooked and hard on the outside. On the positive, the Yorkshire puddings were delish and gravy fixes everything! Kudos to our waiter, Dom, who was the perfect combination of friendliness and efficiency. He made us feel like valued and welcome guests. We eat at Toby's regularly when we're in Edinburgh. It's such a good deal and, my criticisms aside, quite delicious.

Shannah was very attentive and massively helped me today by getting me new drinks and bills in a very timely manner.

Roast potatoes were hard & inedible, Yorkshire puddings were cold & wine was ridiculously priced also no wine list available! Manager couldn’t have cared less, totally disgusted

Well since Toby's in corstorphine has been updated iv been a few times and I can honestly say the food is better especially the roasted potatoes the place feels warmer and the decor is nice and calmer. still one of my wife's and I favourite places for a munch x👍

You can get quite a bit of sides with your meal and it's decently cheap for UK prices but I don't personally think it's that worth the money.

We had a nice double room. Everything was neat and clean. We were very impressed with the service. All employees made our stay a pleasant one. The food in the restaurant is also very tasty and the service is in no way inferior. We received very friendly service from Dom and will definitely come back.

This is ideal for healthy options meals if you are in a weight watch club or just looking for a healthy and hearty meal.

Horriffic experience here on Monday night due to Donna! We were a group of three, with one vegetarian who ordered a vegatarian main which also allowed them access to the vegtable section of the carvery. Donna told us that she would bring the vegatarian plate over so my friend decided to wait and the rest of us went up for food. By the time we came back Donna had not arrived with the plate for my friend so she just went and got one from the carvery section and just stated that she was not getting the meat. We all had finished our first plates and Donna came over and asked if we had finished, to which the vegetarian replied "yes" but then said "no sorry i'm not" as she forgot she could go up for the unlimited veg. Donna then replied awwh are you now? We found this comment awkward. By this point the veggie main had still not arrived and it had been 40 minutes so we no longer wanted it. We tried to look for Donna but could not see her so we just called the first member of staff that we could see who happened to be Dom, who apologised for the situation. Two of us went up for another plate of veg and could hear Donna discussing the amount of plates we were having with Dom. This was now the second time our eating habits were mentioned by Donna, making us feel judged. Donna then came over and said to my veggie friend that "she should have told her that the dish wasn't out" to which she replied "Oh i'm sorry he was just the first person we saw as we couldnt see you" and Donna replies "yeah well that was the manager and you got me in trouble." After saying this she walked away giving us no time to respond and we were unaware if she was joking or not but just left it. We then asked or the bill once we were all finshed and noticed that the veggie meal recieved a disocunt of £1.20 for not having the main part of it. We were not happy with this as we believe it was not a fair discount for not recieving the main componant of the meal so wanted to bring this up with Donna. We then saw Donna go over to the veg section and take a roast potoato with her bare hands and eat it in the middle of the restaurant floor. After she finshed her mid-shift snack we caught her attention and she came over. She was immediantely hostile when we asked if there was a chance we could get it reduced a bit further as we did not receive the main compentent of the veggie meal. Her response was "did u eat the veg?cause you arent getting free veg. you should have said to me before you went up for your second plate" My veggie friend then stated that she did not get a second plate as she was expecting her main and didn't know at that point she wouldnt recieve it as she thought it would have still been cooking. It wasnt until the 40 minute mark that she realised there was no main coming soon. Donna continued saying how we weren't getting the veg carvery for free which none of us once said. We then asked to speak to the manager. Donna shouted over the restaurant to Dom and walked towards him in earshot of us and lied to him saying that we were asking for a free meal which was not the case. Dom then said no but never spoke to us personally. Donna came back over and my friend asked again that we would like to speak to the manager and not throught you. Dom then just said he'll just take it off the bill and walked away to print out the new bill. Donna stayed at the table and then decided to point at other stuff of the bill asking what else we want for free. Donna then said i'll just let Dom cash you out. Dom then took us out of the resturant and cashed us out at the bar. As we were paying Donna then came over to the bar and looked at how much we paid. She was called out for this action by my friend as she said "not her running over to see how much we paid". Very horrible service we are a group of three young women and believe that is why we were treated like this as the other customers was older and did not recieve the tone we did when Donna spoke to them.

Enjoyed our meal, but the selection of meat and vegetables had dried under the heat lamps where the food had been sitting there for a while and didn't look very appetising but tasted okay

We dined here on a Sunday afternoon. The service was excellent. The quality of food was as expected. We loved it. This is our second time visiting this Toby Cavery, and we will definitely be back.

Lovely stay just outside of Edinburgh for RARE24 book event. Good sized well kept room and quiet enough even though situated on main road (my room was roadside too). Good security for hotel entry. Breakfast buffet style full English which for price was fine plus bread and toaster but not so good if have fussy eaters. Staff all lovely and polite, very welcoming. Bus stop just outside for easy access into Edinburgh centre and about 5 mins down Rd from Edinburgh zoo. Will def be checking out for future visit

Very much enjoyed the roasts, all were nicely prepared and tasty. However, we paid for the extra plate and were disappointed with the amount we received. If that was extra, we hate to see what the regular would be! The vegetables we found were all cold. We ordered a pint of Stewart's 80% which tasted stale. It was replaced by a pint of Belhaven Best which was good. Friendly staff but we felt the overall experience was very average.

Amy is really helpful and very pleasant she went through all the menu with us. She was very much smiling at customers. She deserves to get a higher position.

The hotel is slightly outside the center but the public services are excellent. Parking available in the back. The street is quite busy but the room was not noisy. Good sized room, clean and welcoming. The bathroom in order. Necessary for making a hot drink and a kettle. Dinner in the restaurant disappointed me a little, breakfast was good.

Staff just work in their own clothes

It is 30 minutes by bus from the center, but there are many lines that take you quite regularly. The rooms are a bit fair, but they cannot be considered bad. Clean, you don't get cold in them, rather warm at night, but not excessively (in August). It is somewhat curious that it shares its bar counter with the reception. You can have breakfast, lunch and dinner there, but be careful... Dinner closes at 8:30 p.m. Super attentive staff. Especially Simona who knows Spanish, although she doesn't practice much, but she understands you very well if your language is not very good. It has private parking.

We came specifically to enjoy the truly excellent Carvery.

Must be one of the best carveries around. The value is amazing.Mon- Fri you can have a veritable feast for only £10.29 and its only a little more expensive at weekends.Today we got the citylink bus from Glasgow Buchanan St Bus hub.The bus drops you 3 mins walk from Toby at Costorphine.After dining,any Lothian bus passing the door will take you to Edinburgh Princes St. Centre. The food and service are just excellent.The lady serving us was most helpful.The roast consisted of 3 of 5 meats on offer .Portions are generous. Unlimited choice of amazing vegetables Carrots, Cauliflower cheese, Peas, Creamed cabbage,2 kinds of roast pots, creamy mash and crumbly stuffing with at least 6 sauces to accompany your meats all topped off with beautifully crisp Yorkshire Puds. An amazing feast( see Photo) in a nice comfortable atmosphere. A genuine good deal.There aren't many around.There are options to add starters and desserts at very reasonable costs.From 7am till 11am which we just missed out on, you can have an unlimited buffet breakfast for under £7🤪 This place is so worth a visit. I will travel all that way simply to return😇

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower is tiny. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, best we have encountered in Edinburgh so far.

Very nice hotel and pub, about 30 minutes by bus from the old town. Unfortunately, the rooms facing the street are very noisy and the windows can only be opened a crack. However, upon request we were given a room at the back. Breakfast was very tasty. You can choose between buffet or put together breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Cappuccinos are also available at the bar upon request.

The service was prompt and the staff were polite, absolutely no complaints. The food was standard for a carvery but the giant homemade yorkshire puddings in particular stood out as better than expected. My only complaint about the food is that the thin slices of meat you get with the carvery are the opposite of generous.

We were so lucky to have Mrs Pamela Toby as our hostess with the mostest! The hospitality she provided was impeccable and made us 3 Australian visitors feel very much at home. The meals were wonderful and Mrs Toby even went out of her way to make sure we were able to try all the Scottish foods. A great way to finish off our trip around Scotland. Thank you Mrs Toby for making our day!

Good toby carvery but staff were not the best

What a great place and the food was great, £12-99 for a carvery and desert. Had the carvery, all meats, and the crumble, (the size of a sandy beach) perfect. A member of staff gave great service to an elderly customer with slight mobility issues. Accompanied her whilst she made her choices and helped her back to her table with her chosen meal. Well done. I'll be back

We stayed for one night. The carvery was excellent and the breakfast was just as good. The staff were polite and helpful.

We had a bit of a problem with our rental car and Angela (amongst others) really helped me to get a replacement. We had a lovely stay, good dinner. Location was good but a bit far from city center. Though with the bus for only 2 pounds per person we got there easily. I recommend to stay here for your trip to Edinburgh

All you can eat breakfast - great value, visited twice. Mushrooms and hash browns not available on first visit, by available on second. Amazing melt in your mouth your shires. Also tried Sunday carvery. Being a weekend, lamb available. Everything nicely cooked with amazing Yorkshires. Staff generally pleasant, with one exception who was keen to see "if we wanted the bill" - was this a thinly veiled hint? We did not stay in the hotel part.

First time visiting this Toby, food was amazing and lovely and hot and to make it even better our server Donne was fantastic so quick and efficient. Will definitely be back again because of her. ☺️

Positive: The staff is very friendly. The location is actually quite good for reaching the center by bus, which stops right in front of the door. The parking lot is a bit tight but sufficient. The food is very good and tasty. The breakfast has enough choice and is definitely enough all you can eat to get through the day without being hungry. The rooms are actually well equipped and tidy, but: Now for the negative part: It is incredibly warm in the rooms. You can open the windows, but the smell of fat and frying wafts straight into the room, so you have to decide whether to sweat or smell like something fried. If you then live in a room with several people, this is an absolute elimination criterion. Air conditioning would probably be the only way to change this.

Our room was large and clean. I can't fault that. The breakfast was not much. We were given no explanation of how it worked. After my daughter only had a toast with jam, we saw that another table with children was having a children's breakfast. (Box of cornflakes and croissant from a package). After insisting, we still got her the croissant. You are a bit out of the center. The bus stop is right in front of the accommodation. The bus ride takes about 20/25 minutes to Princess Street.

Very busy,great food staff very friendly

Was in the area and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Arrived just before 12 - just in time for the carvery starting. Food was piping hot and very tasty. Best part was the very friendly and attentive Mrs Toby - Pamola - our waitress. Would highly recommend this restaurant if planning on stopping near the Zoo etc as the food and staff were both excellent.

I came with my family around 10.40AM for the buffet breakfast. When we came, no Yorkshire pudding was there. Nobody informed whether that will be refilled again or not. We paid full price for All You Can but we haven't tried the Yorkshire pudding and scrambled egg. The chef at the food station is not friendly or responsive. He didn't put any efforts to explain what meats are there breakfast. Also, the waiter told to use one plate throughout the breakfast even if the plate is full or sauces. No information told about the counter is closing. As we came around 10.40AM ,nobody informed the food counter is closing. At the end, we paid pull price but haven't ate full items.

While the bar man and lady who seated us where very helpful the actual waitress was rude and tried to rush us to order everything. When we did go to the carvery the chef was nowhere to be seen for at least 15 minutes and the waitress then ignored us

I highly recommend staying here when going to and from the airport! Great service; they went out of their way to help check us in when we arrived in the middle of the night, and called us a taxi the next morning. The room was comfortable and quiet, the breakfast was large and tasty and it’s just a few miles from the airport, right on the main road. We weren’t expecting it, but this ended up being one of our favorite hotels on our Scotland trip, mostly due to convenience and hospitality.

Soooo good! Spent father's day here and loved it. Carvery was epic, went king-size on the portions then topped myself up with a seriously tasty Sunday ice-cream. Service was top notch, cheers Dom. We'll be back!

We didn’t stay in the hotel, but were lucky enough to discover this little gem. The first time we went, they ran out of food, but fortunately for us, we went back the next night, and experienced the buffet. Think Old Country Buffet meets Bob Evan’s, but higher quality. I especially enjoyed the giant puffy buns. Great value! Thanks, Dom, for your service!

Hotel reachable in a few minutes by taxi from Edinburgh airport. Located in the western part of the city, it is very welcoming, very kind staff and very clean. The bathroom in our room was renovated with a new shower, toilet and sink. We slept in 4 (2 adults + 2 children) 1 double bed + 1 double sofa bed. Very quiet and comfortable room. The strong point of the hotel is the restaurant on the ground floor where you can eat excellent local dishes. The same goes for the breakfast buffet.

Came to Edinburgh to see Taylor Swift and chose this stay for two reasons; it was close to Murrayfield stadium and it was cheaper than most other places in Edinburgh. Communication through messaging online was not a good example of this place. Whoever responded to me was rude and clearly had never stepped foot in Toby Carvery Edinburgh West. Check in is not until 3pm which clashed magnificently with the gates opening. I, as did the rest of the patrons requested earlier access to the room. Over the phone they explained that they are trying very hard to enable it that we could get in early but if that wasn’t possible they could give us access to a room to change in. However when we arrived we waited perhaps ten minutes and the wonderful housekeeping team had finished our room. The gentleman that checked us in was also wonderful. Following this, breakfast was a delight. Very tasty and as much as we would want. A special shout out to the two Angela’s 😂😜 Simona was so thoughtful and warm. You could tell how much she cared about her work. All in all Toby Carvery West was a most unexpected delight.

Last autumn....excellent stay at this hotel

The hotel is a little outside. However, the buses to the city stop directly in front of the hotel and you can quickly get to the city center. The hotel is pleasantly clean and the staff is very nice. The beds are comfortable and the food is okay too. The breakfast is very rich. Anyone who is not satisfied here has not visited many hotels yet 😉

The welcome, the cleanliness is impeccable Everything was delicious A friendly and pleasant place The little dog bar is very nice, I find it a nice touch for our friends at 4🐾 The bedding is good I recommend with my eyes closed 💓💓💓

This is a review of the restaurant. We were four Americans that had just arrived in town and were walking down the street looking for a place to eat. We dropped in by chance led by good smells. The food was high quality, and plentiful. Amie, our server, was perhaps the best that I've ever encountered. Kudos to Amie and the rest of the Carvery folks.

The double bed is placed against a wall... difficult for people over 65 to go to bed and get up! Room on the street side, noisy at 5 a.m. No Wi-Fi as provided in the room contract. The staff takes more care of the bar-restaurant than the hotel guests! Don't have a French breakfast: the cellophane-wrapped croissants made in France are not transcendent. Well what can I say. Absolutely great food and very reasonably priced. The only thing to better the food and price was out waitress who was called Amie who was quite simply the best waitress I have encountered in all my years. Polite funny professional and an absolute credit to the Toby carvery. Well done Amie top marks all the way and thanks for looking after us.

Very disappointing lunch at the carvery today (21/5/24). Ok it was a bit late, 2.40pm, but we did asked if they were still serving and they said yes. The choice of 4 miserable looking chunk of meat, dried and over cooked were not appetising at all and proved to be awful. My elderly friend could not managed to chew any of her meat and most of it ended up wasted. As for the vegetables, there again waiting under the warming lights, were all dried and tasteless. Our plates of food were cold and had to be warmed up in microwave. The cheese cauliflower was cold, hard and tasteless. The roasted potatoes cold and chewy only the mash was ok but cold. The service was neither friendly or polite. A very sad and very disappointing experience. To be avoided even when starving like we were!

First Toby carvery I’ve had in over 10 years, food was great, really generous portions for a very affordable price. My service from Pamela was exceptional. Really like, attentive and friendly old fashioned Scottish service - would definitely come back just for her!

Leanne I think the womans name is. AKA Mrs Toby. Absolute legend! Made me feel very welcome and you can just tell she loves her job. Really nice to see, makes you feel very comfortable. The food was decent bit old, but it still tasted quite good. And it was late breakfast when we went too, the place also wasn't too busy, so that's the be expected. Plenty seating choices. Drinks machine was easy to use. Breakfast was very cheap for buffet breakfast.

Have to wait on chef coming to serve nowadays. Old lady in front of me was so sore standing waiting and nearly decided to sit back down. The roast beef was beautiful but turkey dry. The macaroni was all stodgy and veggies including cauliflower cheese were cold.

Having just arrived in Scotland, we were all starving. The food didn't disapoint. All the food was superb. Our server Amie was just the best. 100% rated for Amie and the food. Back tomorrow for the breakfast. Thank you Amie

Simona always greets us very happy in the morning when we come for breakfast. She knows our drinks off by heart and prepares as we walk in (we love it). Shes always so helpful continually asking if were happy with food and if we need anything else. Makes us feel so comfortable and interacts with my 2 yr old son when he comes too. Will always choose to come here for breakfast. Both ladies on breakfast are lovely and cheery.

As always a fabulous experience. Atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Staff very chatty and made you part of the Toby Family. Chris Taylor was amazing made me smile and laugh, who could ask for more on a dull day in Scotland 😀
