Go to different Toby's in Edinburgh, plates usually cold and dirty, very poor hygiene standards, never seen any staff do a temperature check The chefs have no concerns about cross contamination, bring food out and put on top Of food that is already on the hot plate.

We had dinner at Toby Carvery last night with a Groupon voucher, and I absolutely do not recommend this establishment. For a restaurant specializing in roast meats, the quality was frankly disappointing: the gammon was much too salty, the beef elastic (either because of poor quality meat or due to lack of cooking). The roasted potatoes seemed just reheated, and the green beans were completely bland, without any seasoning. At the counter, a sign says that if the chef offers an upgrade to a large plate, it's free – but if we ask, it's £1.99. The chef offered us the upgrade... and yet we were charged £3.98 without justification. Another incomprehensible point: there is no menu for drinks. We were asked several times what we wanted to drink, but without a map we had to guess what was available by looking at the other tables. Very disappointing overall experience, we will not be returning, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

We stopped here for a bite to eat before we headed home to Dundee. Service (Amie) was amazing - my daughter is type 1 diabetic, I was asking her about portion size etc and she went away and got a tablet and it had all the information required. My dad is in a wheelchair and she made sure that all the areas he needed to be in accessible. Food was amazing, just what was needed and reasonably priced. Highly recommend and we will be back

Visited the carvery Monday afternoon. Food was lovely, service was excellent. Donna was an absolute joy of a server. Would absolutely recommend it if your looking for a nice place for dinner.

Lovely hot food, all cooked to perfection. We all had carveries. Ice cream was amazing too. Service was quick and efficient

Ideal location halfway between the airport and the center of Edinburgh. Parking on site and a bus stop right in front of the establishment, super convenient. Comfortable room but not very clean. On the other hand, on the street side, it is horribly noisy all night long because of the traffic. Reception quite cold when we arrived. Decent meal without more, very pleasant service and top waiters.

We were not in the hotel only the restaurant and it was lovely .The meal which was the carvery was absolutely delicious and piping hot.The staff were very polite and friendly.The restaurant was very clean and comfortable with plenty of seating to choose from .

It's a Toby, value for money and good food.

Good value for money in generally expensive Edinburgh. Easy access to airport and the town with bus connections. A bit loud in the mornings.

This is my first visit in a while, Didn't book a table but would recommend it. Nice staff and food is good. There is an offer on just now for over 60 Monday to Thursday between 12-4 until 27th March

Rooms were ok. Nothing special. But fine for one night. But the restaurant buffet food was terrible. The man behind the buffet was unfriendly and extremely dirty dressed. The food tasted disgusting. Never again.

We were just visiting the carvery it was sadly a disappointing meal the food was lukewarm the Yorkshire puddings were inedible as were the roast potatoes I struggled to get my knife through them. I don't think I will make a return visit and perhaps the quality of the food was reflected in how quiet it was for a Friday night !

Kids absolutely loved it, big deserts, unlimited refills you get yourself, its a kids dream, I have been asked several times to go back again. Staff were good enough but seemed rushed off their feet.

Only visit for a quick carvery dinner every so often. It's what you expect from a carvery establishment. Quick easy service, food as good as you'd expect it to be, and plenty to choose from. Busy place, so recommend larger groups booking ahead if you want a table together. Small carpark on site at the back. Make sure your vehicle is registered before eating. Reasonable choice of beers and spirits at the bar too. Easy transport links just outside the door.

Served by the amazing and helpful Dom, we have enjoyed our carvery and especially the wraps. Excellent value for money - especially with the rewards app. Never a bad meal from here. No hotel stay, just food.

Good place for a Sunday roast with family or friends. They have very kind and attentive staff. The food is delicious and the ambience is relaxed while cosy. Normally one plate alone knocks me out already, so I would recommend you for for the normal plate size. The way it works is that you pick a roast option, then go to the carvery for your meat once but can refill sides and sauces as often as you wish. And they habe Yorkshire pudding!!!

I'm going to classify the place as a hotel (if you don't know, this is a local restaurant chain but this branch has a hotel). As a hotel it is quite good, the rooms have good space and are clean. The TV has many channels and the mattresses were comfortable. The only disadvantage it has is that it is “far from the center”, since it is about 6 kilometers away but it is compensated because it is 5 meters from the bus stop, those buses go to the center and pass every 5-8 minutes. Buses can be paid with cash, the app or with a credit card on top of the bus (2 euros). Another great advantage it has is that it is between the center and the airport so the Uber is cheaper than the special truck that goes to the airport for 2 people and in less than 20 minutes you are at the airport.

Staff are absolutely delightful always smiling and helpful rooms are lovely beds are comfy and bus stop outside 10 mins to city centre loved it on our two night stay in Feb 2025

Haven't stayed at Toby Carvery Edinburgh but the food was great! Not a great location for getting parked with a large amount of traffic queuing infront of the entrance to the car park. Prefer Lauriston Farm down the road but if your needing a good scran and this is nearby give it a try 👍

Great food, service and prices

Called in one lunchtime to meet up with a group of former colleagues. Just had a roast beef roll and roast tatties. Seemed tasty and most other folks had the carvery and seemed to enjoy.

We had another very enjoyable meal at Toby Carvery Edinburgh West. Amie was very obliging and attentive even having the time to take our photos. Amie and Toby Carvery Edinburgh West are the best - 5 Stars!

Currently staying here just the one night as we were going to a theatre nearby, the room is really big, nice and warm, had tea here before going out the carvery tasted delicious and was hot, staff are friendly.

We come here every month for our girls lunch date we wouldn’t consider going anywhere else.

We visit here fairly frequently as I live nearby and it's an easy midweek dinner. Nice food, nice service usually. However, after our visit last week we will not go back. Waited around 5 minutes to be seated, I wouldn't mind but some staff members were visibly angry, stomping around, snapping at each other and clearly ignoring us. It wasnt overly busy, the quiz was on but only a few seated for food. We were seated eventually, menus thrown down on the table. The staff member who served us after was excellent, which was good as I was just about to cut my losses and leave. Ordered a carvery but the food was dried up, not as much choice as usual and was not replenished so I didn't feel like I got the usual value. I'd usually say something but honestly couldn't be bothered with the argument given the mood of some of the staff. I know hospitality is hard at the moment so maybe the staff need more wellbeing support? Nail in the coffin was the obligatory 'how much do you want to tip?' screen on the card reader. No option for '£0' unless you actually type it in on the 'other value' screen.

We had booked to sleep on vacation, but we canceled because it was far from the city center. When we arrived there, in fact, we realized that it was actually really far from the center, reachable only by public transportation. More convenient if you want to be close to the airport.

Food was great and service is good as well.

Only use the restaurant. It seems to be the neighborhood's representative restaurant. Our famous cavery menu is like a buffet, where you go to the live cooking corner and receive a meat plate that is cut and you scoop up baked potatoes, boiled beans, carrots, etc. It can only be used once. The beef was softer and tastier than the pork. It is highly recommended, but it is a dish that must be ordered per person, so it is a lot for a small group. Try ordering a la carte for others in your group. When paying by card, a tip selection box appears, and I gave 5% because I was grateful for the help.

Me and my sister ordered 2 carvery with cake on just eat, I was delivered in good time and still rather hot, only disappointment was half of our meat was fat, full fat no meat. Wouldn't rush to use just eat again

This review is for The Restaurant We were there on Wednesday 15th January, and were VERY disappointed on this occasion. The food wasn't hot enough, roast potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings were inedible.overall the meal was awful. I've been many times, and hv highly recommend The Toby, but, sadly this visit left us VERY unimpressed!. Upon entry to the restaurant on St johns road in Edinburgh we were warmly welcomed by staff whom took us both to our seats where we were asked if we would like refreshments while we order so we had a drink each then ordered the carvery and took plates to the server where the young man was lovely as we asked him how he was and he's said yeah I'm great as he carved delicious cuts of meat he asked how we were now that's lovely get to know who your serving he recommended anytime we are in or around morning try the breakfast as uts delicious he told us he does breakfasts mostly what a great asset to Toby Carvery We got our roasts, veg, pasta, gravy and dined and must say the neats were cooked to perfection and truly succulent so tasty especially topped with gravy all the roasts, veg , pasta and yorkies were just spot on washed down with more drinks we finished and upon paying we thanked the girl for her great table service and new to the app we.opened it and noticed we had 25% off the food bill so made an even greater experience and we said we certainly will be back and will be recommending this specific Toby

This is a review on the restaurant as apposed to the hotel; We got the carvery and it was delicious. Very good quality meals for a very affordable pricing. (Also highly recommend the poppin’ chicken) Excellent service from Dom, who explained how the system worked and was very helpful. Highly recommend stopping in!

We've gone as a family for years and we've always had a reasonably good time. The carvery is nice and since the refurb it's looking a lot better. The staff are really nice especially an older blonde lady who has worked there for years and is always lovely. The only issue we have found is quote often the bar mess up drink orders and we have to send them back but otherwise it's a decent carvery.

Fraser the bar man served a great pint, very knowledgeable too!

Easy to get to with public transport, great food and service.

The location is good, and the rooms were neat and clean, but the size of the room was small with no lifts to carry luggage.

Easy to reach from the airport, with a short walk. Very good connections to the city. The staff is super friendly. The rooms are very noisy, there was no closet, and it is a bit louder towards the front. Breakfast is typically British, porridge is only available for an additional charge. Orange and apple juice are distributed by the glass.

Do not go at Hogmany in the evening. Poor selection of vegetables and roast potatoes were cooked ages ago. No atmosphere but to be fair the Street party was cancelled so maybe thats the reason

Visited today from down south and was greeted with a most welcoming smile and cheerful manner from Simona . It made a cold morning so much better after long journey. She also took time to make sure we knew where everything was and if we needed further help. The customer service standards are outstanding and I hope management take time to acknowledge this. I will return and can't recommend this Toby carvery enough Many thanks to this lady again for a great morning ..

Went with a large group of friends for food for christmas celebrations, we were incredibly accomodated, food was great and it made for a fun night

The hotel is great. The rooms are small, but very cosy and clean. The breakfast is one of the best I've had in a hotel, very plentiful. The service is incredibly friendly, but authentic and not artificial. The location is a bit far from the tram, but there are several buses. The price is high, but unfortunately this is no different throughout Scotland. All in all, top.

We booked for breakfast with friends. On arrival it was clear that they were short staffed and had to wait over 5 minutes to be seated. For the price we paid, the food was over cooked and dry. The service was non existent and there was no ambiance whatsoever. We will not be returning and I’d think twice before booking. So disappointing.

I have just had a carvery lunch with my sister. and we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we stepped in the front door! We were shown to our table which wasn’t quite as comfortable for our needs as we would have liked and I had forgotten to mention on my booking about having a booth close to carvery so we could manage to carry our plates to the table, I asked if it was possible to move and Pamela very quickly managed to move us to help make things easier for us then she continued to be super helpful and attentive to our and every other customers needs that she was serving! She is a real asset to your company and you can tell she enjoys her job as she goes the extra mile for her customers. The meal itself (we both had the carvery) was hot, fresh and delicious and served by a very jolly, friendly helpful chef, we both also had really yummy desserts that again were freshly made to order, All in all I can definitely say we will back in the new year to enjoy more of your friendly hospitality! I would give everyone we dealt with five stars! We thank you for your help and assistance when required!

Fantastic venue for high quality food (breakfast and carvery) at a fantastic price. The staff are excellent and very friendly, especially Pamela and Simona, who are happy to get to know their customers with a smile on their faces.

Breakfast was appalling, dry , over cooked and un edible. Dinner was ok. The meats were superb.

Service was great. Very friendly especially Amie. Food was dire. Meat dry and rough. Overcooked. Asked for fresh and was told no. Veg was dry and overcooked. Good value though.

The room service is terrible. They don't make more beds, they don't clean and one of the two rooms we took had a dirty bathroom from the first day. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Stale bacon, stale eggs, burnt sausages, very lousy pudding. And expensive as if everything were luxury... Only part of the bar staff, like Simona, is worth highlighting for her kindness and good treatment. The staff is the only notable thing that is saved.

The prawn cocktail starter was embarrassing. Very few prawns and they were tiny. Half a cherry tomato. Cheap bread. The roasties were disappointingly soft. The service was poor.

Heart stopping moment didn't realise I'd left my wallet at home when I sat down for food was doing a minibus job so stopped for food while I waited on my passengers asked for the bill and couldn't find me wallet well I went into a panic thankfully my wife managed to call and pay by card as by this time I was searching the vehicle looking for my wallet, thnx to the staff for not ringing the police as it may have looked like I'd gone without paying 🙈 food was good but not a lot of meat but staff i couldn't fault them they do a good job in there never stopping looking after tables and customers thnx again

Stayed here overnight, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless, warm, and cosy. Great for public transport both for the airport and the city centre.

First time and never again !!! Thought the stuffing was toasted bread crumbs, cauliflower looked like mush and other veg' overcooked. Cheesecake taisted of nothing and weighed a ton. Dreadful value for money.

The quality of the food was amazing. The price was definitely fair. However, there wasn’t many options outside the english breakfast style. There should be the same amount of vegan protein as non-vegan protein. The coffee was too watered down, needs to be stronger. Lovely staff all around that made the experience perfect.

Food was absolutely delicious, as an Aussie visiting I had to try the famous Toby carvery and it didn’t disappoint. All staff were lovely, especially Ashleigh who took care of us was an absolute ray of sunshine! Would highly recommend

This review is on the restaurant and not the hotel, since we stayed locally elsewhere. The restaurant gave us a home-like atmosphere and food quality, with good hospitality from the staff. The food is not going to be “fancy” but that’s what makes it special - it gives you this home like sense. We actually loved it so much, we ate twice here and each time we were highly satisfied and full. We got the carvery roast. The beef and pork were excellent. In addition, the potatoes, Mac and cheese, veggies and cauliflower were done well and always warm. Although you could go up to refill on veggies and other items, we never did. We also got dessert both times and they were good. Highly recommend the sundae as it is for 2 people! Definitely worth visiting and they always had space, regardless of how busy it got. Thank you!
