Characteristic pub near the cemetery, famous for the statue of Bobby the dog! Very nice place. Friendly staff. Excellent quality/price ratio!! Highly recommended for a break between one visit and another and for a dinner and/or lunch while visiting the city.

Excellent Scottish pub with traditional atmosphere and good eats. Seating is limited, come early or prepare to wait but it’s worth it! Haggis and tatties were the best!

Holy! One of the best Peppersauces i have ever eaten. Very friendly staff. Really. So nice. I ve ordered the steak. Meat on point. Fries perfect. But than the peppersauce: i am in heaven. 10/10! I will come back. Donation for social bite included. Great idea.

Love the history of the Greyfriars Bobby and his dog. We ordered pigs in a blanket, and it was sausage wrapped in bacon. We both had hamburgers. They had no seasoning, and the meat is mixed with ketchup. It's not a flavorful burger, in my opinion. Service was excellent and a place we had to try after reading the story.

Had a delicious meal in a cozy pub with great service! Definitely one to check out if you’re looking for a dinner in Old Town. We enjoyed a few drinks and had the bangers & mash (WOW) and the crofters pie - both 10/10! We’re already planning to come back and we’re only here for 3 days!

Was here on a Saturday. Ordered the veggie pie. After a while a delicious pie was served. When I opened it, a big chunk of chicken fell out 🙈 Went to the bar and showed them my plate. The bartender told me I ordered chicken pie. I told him I'm a vegetarian, I'd never order a meat pie. He went to look it up and excused himself for making a mistake. He was going to fix it. After that, two different people came up to our table telling me they were sorry for what happened. Not long after I got served a truly delicious vegetarian pie with extra veggies. And when paying the bill, I got a refund for my pie! We left the bar with the knowledge that even when something goes wrong, at Greyfriar Bobby's Bar they will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Ours certainly was. Would recommend to go there, the food was delicious.

Been before and it was good. Just went in for a few drinks and got muscled from the bar for someone to take a photo of the beer pump taps. Thought it was some tourist wanting a souvenir. Wrong. It was one of the staff, Todd. Obviously his customer service skills need improving to learn to wait. Another disappointment is £1.75 for a bag of crisps.

Stopped by on a chilly day for a surprisingly tasty hot toddy. Sat outside and watched the passers by touching the Bobby statue and then took a walk through Greyfriar's Kirkyard directly behind the pub.

The charming waiters, the beautiful and very typical place and delicious typical Scottish food. We recommend the balmoral chicken and the haggis! Great!

Excellent restaurant where you can try beer and typical Scottish food. All very good. We tried the haggis, chicken belmore and meat pie. Everything very well cooked and delicious. Excellent service. If you don't know English there are several waiters who know Spanish. An ideal place to stop for a while, chat and eat something after taking a tour. It is behind the cemetery where the dog Boby is found. In front of the restaurant there is another statue of Boby. By the way, don't touch his nose, the Scots don't like that fashion.

Hi, On'8th of November we had a dinner in your pub. When we paid Mr. Christopher charged us twice for dinner (I have got the receipts); he said that you reimburse one payment immediately, but we don't received nothing. Could you provide as soon as possible? we paid twice the dinner because Mr Christopher said that bancomat doesn't work: 78,98£ paid twice!!!! We had the bills, None have refunded us although we contact them!

Spent 35 pounds per person for 4 people on 2 drinks each and a full meal with one shared appetizer. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was the best. Terribly sad story about the dog, but it's a great place for remembrance.

Found the greyfriar while wandering around the area and introduduced by the story of bobby by the road corner. 1st time pub goer in Edinburgh, protocol was to find a table then order, pay and wait for dinner and drink to be served. Finally had the opportunity to try a traditional fish pie and dark ale. Pie had some chunks of haddock, salmon and shrimp in creamy herby potato base and topped with melted cheese-wished ratio was more on the fish side but still delicious. Serving was solo and came with a side of long stemmed broccoli and carrot spears seasoned well. Guiness ale paired well. Ambiance was great for a friday evening and service was efficient.

Reasonably priced and delicious pub fare, and wasn't too crowded at lunchtime despite the iconic location. A lovely "Scottish" experience! Food was served incredibly quickly. There's a great selection of beer, and the bar staff are friendly.

was honestly really lovely, even though it was a bit busy but it was not too overwhelming and still a very lovely and cozy atmosphere to be in. food was brilliant as well, real big fan of the mac n’ cheese! personally could’ve been a bit of a bigger portion but that’s more a personal preference if anything

Management couldn't do anything about it

Pretty decent place. Personel didn't seem to really notice you. Took some time for someone to come to us as you had to be seated by an employee (and they were not busy at all.) Also had to ask to order as noone came up to us after reviewing the menu etc. Nothing to extreme just slightly disappointing. Employees were nice enough though, just not very aware. Decent food though and overall not too bad!

Really nice bar, food was tasty, pleasant atmosphere and the live music was great. The service was always very attentive, friendly and helpful, although on two different evenings we were asked to leave in a relatively unfriendly manner about 30-45 minutes before the bar closed, which seemed a little strange to us.

Visited this place with my family. I was SHOCKED at how stand off-ish and rude the manager was. I came here once during the fringe which was a positive experience but this won’t won’t have me back. Seems like different people and was not impressed. Won’t be back.

Lovely place, we feared it would be a tourist trap but it was one of the better pubs we visited in Edinburgh. Decent drinks and nice filling food, although their whiskies are incredibly pricey.

The interior is nice but I'll put it this way you wouldn't want to go in hungry. I'll be honest if could no stars I would We waited an hour for the food for the first dish and the carrots were raw me and 3 other friends came here the rest of the food was over an hour late. One of my friends waited an hour and a half and the chips as part of the burger were half cooked and didn't get her food until an hour and a half passed to say we all were disappointed is an understatement. I would not recommend it to anyone.

In the restaurant, you have to sit down and place your order at the counter. You take your drinks. The waitress gave us our dishes, didn't even really take us into account. She was not warm or smiling. Our table was wobbly. The dishes were good and hot.

Really nice place where to eat! I had the sausage and mash and it was delicious, my friend had the vegetarian version and liked it too! The team was nice and welcoming, bonus point for the location, very central and accessible! A good place where to have a nice meal after a busy day in Edinburg

Awesome place! The food, staff and atmosphere were all amazing. I highly recommend trying the Steak & Nicholson's Pale Ale Pie & the Cullen Skink. The food was so delicious!

Delicious food (in the picture the Nicholson Burger and Balmoral Chicken) and pleasant service, only towards the end you had the feeling that you had to say goodbye quickly so that other customers could take a seat.

This bar was ok. Very very busy and difficult to get served at the bar. We drank outside as there was no room inside and people were waiting she's for a table. The beer was good (peroni) but they didn't have as good a selection as most other bars in the area. It was fun watching people getting their pictures taken with Bobby the dog across the road.

Great staff, nice ambiance, good food. I had the fish pie which was really tasty. We were here also in 2016 and came back now 8 years later to find the same quality of food and friendliness of the staff. Highly recommended!

Food and atmosphere here was great. The staff were lovely to talk to. Great story about the dog which I’m sure attracts many tourists like ourselves. Very busy atmosphere and definitely recommend the fish here at Greyfriars I loved it.

OK, I was really looking forward to trying this place out even though we ended up here a day or two earlier than we expected. We had some time to kill from an adventure nearby so we thought we’d grab some fish and chips while we waited. One staff member was a little bit rude as though we were a bother to them, but another staff member was awesome and made up for the other staff members lack of decorum. This was our first meal in Scotland, and we were really looking forward to it. It was good, but I have to admit it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. Would I buy again if I was hungry?… yes. But I bet you there’s better fish and chips in Edinburgh Scotland and we hope to find it. still, the batter was very light and it was very fresh and very hot. I do suggest you try here especially if you like pubs and the pub atmosphere.

Well, the place is really beautiful, and the food tasted good, but even though the restaurant was quite empty, we weren't served until after 30 minutes. Very unfortunate.

We expected to eat in a historic, cosy place with pleasant, welcoming and friendly staff. Instead we were made to wait although there were free tables . The staff consisted of arrogant and adolescent and straight up rude individuals.

We came here for the namesake to such a great classic Edinburgh story. Unfortunately we left very disappointed. After ordering drinks, we had them swapped on us with another couple sitting nearby which caused us to have to wait for new drinks. This wasn't even the worst of the night. From ordering our food to arrival it took 80 mins. That's ridiculous!! Despite them giving us a discount as an apology (only after saying we would have to leave before the food arrived due to another commitment) I still find this completely unacceptable. The excuse was that the kitchen staff were new and slow. To me, if this is the case and obviously known, they should have extra staff working or perhaps warn people of service delays when they arrive. There was a long line of people waiting when we left and we heard them being told 30-40 min wait times. I'm sure those people waited much longer. I would definitely steer clear during peak meal periods otherwise be prepared to wait and bring your patience.

A great Sunday lunch just like it had been made at home comprising a well cooked Stovie and cider plus juicy chicken breast schnitzel. They were both perfect while enjoying the atmosphere of the pub and also be out of the wind to re-energise before further exploring around the Old Town.

Two of my orders were missing part of the meal. When I brought it up to the server they just said, “We are out. You aren’t missing much.” That pretty much sums up this place. Unfriendly service. Mediocre food. “You aren’t missing much.”

Its location made me worried it was a tourist trap and it was very crowded the day we were there, but the chicken pie was the best pie I ate in great Britain during our trip. Everyone appeared cheerful and happy to be there.

Food was pretty average. Order had to be corrected, and then the short rib pie is the whole short rib including bone so there were bone fragments in it. Service was friendly but pretty slow and it was absolute carnage around us with people missing meals, kitchen sending out uncooked food, long wait times etc. It was expensive and there’s an automatic 10% tip added to the bill which I really resent when I don’t feel like the service is up to scratch.

Stopped in for lunch. I was surprised that we got a table immediately. Loved the biscuit torte dessert. Had the soup and some small plates items. Staff was friendly. The atmosphere was nice.

I thought this place was great - lots of food and drinks options available. Well-situated close to Grassmarket and the Greyfriar’s Bobby statue(s)! I had a pint of beer from Stewart Brewing Co. Would visit again; there’s lot of history here!

30 years ago we had dinner in this pub, we returned with pleasure and found the friendly staff, the same warm and relaxing atmosphere, good food and excellent beer!!

We ate there 2 days ago. We weren't notified that there was no swede available for the haggis neeps and tatties before we ordered, so when the food arived with roasted carrots instead, we brought it up to the chef who was passing, to be rather flippantly told there's a national shortage. We should've been told when ordering. Also took you about 20 minutes to bring us the bill after we'd asked for it. The food we had was very good, but the service was sadly lacking. Overall, poor, and I wouldn't return any time soon.

Fantastic pub with scratch made food. We tried to go back for a second time but it is so popular our group of 5 was a bit much to squeeze in. Highly recommend you give it a try. Great selection of cask ales, cocktails, beer and scotch as well.

We couldn't eat at this pub as they couldn't tell us whether or not their food contained what my girlfriend is allergic to. I deduce that: either they don't know what the ingredients of their dishes are, or they didn't want to check.

Quite busy at the time. The sausage and mash was OK but the fish pie I had was mediocre at best and the vegetables horrible. It was quite expensive as there is a mandatory service charge. Food was not good enough to warrant the high food and service charges.

Greyfriar Bobby’s Bar had great food (fish & chips), don’t get me wrong. However, we got our food before we got the tap water drinks we ordered. I had to get up and chase our waiter down to get any attention for the waters or additional drinks we wanted to order, to which another worker told me “he’s busy, he’s busy” as we watched multiple other tables be sat, served drinks & food while we sat ignored.

Bobby, the Scottish version of the faithful dog Hachiko, was a faithful dog who lived in Scotland before the Japanese faithful dog Hachiko (1923-1935), and after the death of his owner John Gray in 1858. It is said that she sat next to her master's grave for 14 years. The pub is located right in front of Bobby's statue, and the pub is also named after this loyal dog. I had a steak pie and a fish cake, a croquette-like dish filled with minced fish and potatoes, and both were delicious! ! The store staff are generally friendly and provide good customer service, but they were so busy chatting with each other that they often didn't notice us, so it was difficult to call for someone. However, the atmosphere inside the restaurant and the food were delicious, so I highly recommend it.

Settled in the background of the Bobby monument, handsomely stands the Greyfriar's Bobby. Whether you fancy a cask ale or incredible food, this is the place to go. I had the massive beef meat pie and it was superb. Great spot for friends, family or the solo traveler to stop and recharge. HIGHLY recommend.

We had a fantastic experience! Came for early dinner and the place was packed. We’re lucky to get a table. Because it feels like such a tourist spot, out expectations about the food were not very high, so we were very pleased when we loved everything we ordered (including the haggis appetizer - try it!). Plus it’s a beautiful, historical building in a fun location.

So went to this pub with my wife while visiting scotland (im from portugal), and a pink hair waitress refused to serve after i asked for a coffee and a drink (she just had served drinks to a guy before me). I hadnt had anything to drink before and I was not rude or impolite. I felt i was discriminated, I loved my trip to scotland its a shame in so many nice people there was someone like this.

This was the second visit for my wife and I to the Greyfriar's Bobby site on our recent visit to Edinburgh but the first opportunity we had to venture inside the Bar and grab a meal with our Scottish host Patricia. The atmosphere was spirited but not loud or disruptive in any sense and the decor was very well done in traditional pub style. Our service was excellent as well and a tip of the ol' Scally cap to Runkun & Hope who waited on us and also took time to chat up with us tourists from the States in some nice friendly patter. My wife and friend had the Puy Lentil - Vegetable pie and I had the excellent Mac n' Cheese. The food was so tasty and was served hot & promptly. Stopping into the Greyfriars Bobby's Pub was definitely a highlight and well worth the stop on our last night in Edinburgh. Don't miss the opportunity to stop and sample everything inside the pub - it's well worth the visit if & when you're visiting "Auld 'Reeky" ps.......the sticky toffee pudding was delicious as well!!!

Great beer just avoid the food. It tastes nice but the portions are a joke for the price
