Greyfriars Bobby Bar in Edinburgh, City of

Great bar amazing food tried one of their famous pies and it was packed with flavour one of the best ale pies I've had and the service was top end we were seen to as soon as we went in even though it was busy and what history the pub has to offer with Bobby to top it all fantastic! Nice pub, quite busy on a Saturday night. This one was on the more expensive side of the local pubs we tried. Service was quick and friendly.

Very nice and quaint place. Possibility to eat at the restaurant or bar without reservation by paying first at the cash register. The tacos and sausage & mash were good, we expected a little more from the steak. Friendly staff, fast service

Disappointing. They got half our order wrong, then it took ages for the right order to arrive. So one of us ate, then we waited, then the other's food turned up quite a bit later. And then the food wasn't great. Shame, because it's in such a good location and looks nice from the outside.

Food is meh, service really nice and fast, quiet place, I found a baby squid in my calamari which brought the review down a lot

A truly magical place, with a lot of choice of food and beers of the highest quality. Very kind and helpful staff. Not to be missed if you are in Edinburgh

3 staff members were standing around, talking amongst themselves, instead of actually doing their job and serving us. 0/5 The pub was basically empty. They looked at us multiple times and saw that we were ready to order. The front of house who seated us just disappeared. So we left after 20 minutes of not being served. They need to work on their service standards.

Good bar with good food, the servers are really nice. I'm putting only 4 stars because I waited a long time to be seated and for the server to take my order.

This pub is OK for a drink with friends. I don't know if it serves food. It's a warm and friendly bar. I can't comment on the range of drinks available. As I was driving, I only ordered a soft drink so didn't look at what was available, beers, whiskies etc.

Good. We had a good time. The environment is also beautiful.

As it is near a tourist spot the prices are a little higher than other pubs in Edinburgh. However, it has excellent service and food. I ordered Haggis with a Pint!

Friendly staff, very good beer 🍻 we didn't eat but we will do next visit in Edinburgh.

They served us a bowl salad which was missing half of the ingredients stated on the menu. When we complained they added some quinoa out of the freezer which gave us problems with the stomach.

I had the signature fish pie here and it was delicious!

A charming pub in the centre of Edinburgh. Bartenders were nice and friendly and the beer was cheap… what else can one need;)

Very pleasant atmosphere, typical pub. Food average but good. A bit grumpy waitress, as soon as you say you don't want anything more she brings you the receipt and immediately asks you for payment, even if you are still eating or drinking. You feel a little left out.

The food, which is known to be very local, was just okay. I ordered the award-winning pie, but I found it lacking in flavor. However, my friends enjoyed it, so it might just be a matter of personal taste. The atmosphere of the pub was great though—it’s beautifully decorated and has a great vibe.

A stain on Bobby's legacy. Just another tourist trap profiting on the story. Went in and it was stale and overpriced

I had a very disappointing experience at Greyfriars Bobby Pub. As someone with serious food allergies, I always take precautions and inform staff to ensure my safety. Unfortunately, the waiter was dismissive of my concerns and could not guarantee that there wouldn’t be cross-contamination in the food preparation (not even a salad). Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, he waved an iPad at me, pressuring me to click "got it" in a waiver without fully explaining the risks or allowing time to read. This lack of understanding and care left me feeling unsafe. We ultimately had to leave without eating, which was very disappointing. I would not recommend this pub to anyone with dietary needs or allergies.

Stay away if you don’t want to be disappointed. The employees there just aren’t worthy of Bobby’s memory and aren’t surely honouring it. The older lady at the bar was simply horrible. Not a smile, not helpful, always rushing you and got my order wrong. Made one girl walk back to her table because she didn’t know her table number!!! I asked for the loaded chunky fries that took WAY TOO MUCH and when I got the order, it was a regular plate of simple fries, that weren’t even listed on the menu, that I didn’t order and went to talk to the rude lady, she started arguing with me that I had made the wrong order and I tried to show her the menu to show her that I didn’t even know there was plain fries because they AREN’T ON THE MENU!! Just an awful awful experience! Will not recommend ever. Poor Bobby.

Very nice old pub, typical atmosphere of Scottish pubs but without that loud music that breaks your eardrums. Very kind staff. Prices normal

Good selection of whiskeys, lovely atmosphere and fantastic singer in the night we were in. Only recommendation is that bar staff are more informed on whiskeys

We didn't eat here. We had a drink. The staff were friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was good. We enjoyed sitting and chatting. A nice friendly pub.

This very busy spot by Greyfriars cemetery had great food. The wait staff was very busy but they kept everything moving well and we never had time wait for drinks, to order, or our food. We had the Balmoral Chicken with Haggis (rich and tasty), the bacon cheeseburger (grilled well and with good toppings), the Nourish Bowl with chicken (plentiful with a sizeable piece of chicken), and the mushroom pie (which was absolutely fantastic and I'd highly recommend). This was a nice place to stop and get out of the cold for a quick meal and good drinks.

Great pub and atmosphere, friendly staff, gets busy so book if you can. Visited during christmas time so it was decorated nice and felt all cosy and warm. Lovely fresh chicken, meat pies, haggis mash and veg really enjoyed the food and drink would recommend a visit.

Really, really friendly servers, good gin list, and tasty pies. Great vibe at this place, if a little touristy due to its proximity to Bobby’s statue (of course, we contributed to the touristy-ness!).

Great pub to have something to eat after an hour in the museum. When you go inside you have a served area and a service area Where you have to order your food and drinks at the bar. It's really a pub, so it's nice and busy, not the cleanest of tables, but cozy. The food is fine. Good haggis and tasty sticky chicken. So you can walk in here with peace of mind. Service is good.

Characteristic pub near the cemetery, famous for the statue of Bobby the dog! Very nice place. Friendly staff. Excellent quality/price ratio!! Highly recommended for a break between one visit and another and for a dinner and/or lunch while visiting the city.

Excellent Scottish pub with traditional atmosphere and good eats. Seating is limited, come early or prepare to wait but it’s worth it! Haggis and tatties were the best!

Holy! One of the best Peppersauces i have ever eaten. Very friendly staff. Really. So nice. I ve ordered the steak. Meat on point. Fries perfect. But than the peppersauce: i am in heaven. 10/10! I will come back. Donation for social bite included. Great idea.

Love the history of the Greyfriars Bobby and his dog. We ordered pigs in a blanket, and it was sausage wrapped in bacon. We both had hamburgers. They had no seasoning, and the meat is mixed with ketchup. It's not a flavorful burger, in my opinion. Service was excellent and a place we had to try after reading the story.

Had a delicious meal in a cozy pub with great service! Definitely one to check out if you’re looking for a dinner in Old Town. We enjoyed a few drinks and had the bangers & mash (WOW) and the crofters pie - both 10/10! We’re already planning to come back and we’re only here for 3 days!

Was here on a Saturday. Ordered the veggie pie. After a while a delicious pie was served. When I opened it, a big chunk of chicken fell out 🙈 Went to the bar and showed them my plate. The bartender told me I ordered chicken pie. I told him I'm a vegetarian, I'd never order a meat pie. He went to look it up and excused himself for making a mistake. He was going to fix it. After that, two different people came up to our table telling me they were sorry for what happened. Not long after I got served a truly delicious vegetarian pie with extra veggies. And when paying the bill, I got a refund for my pie! We left the bar with the knowledge that even when something goes wrong, at Greyfriar Bobby's Bar they will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Ours certainly was. Would recommend to go there, the food was delicious.

Cozy pub right opposite Bobby's statue. If you don't know the story, you can read it in the pub. They serve delicious pub food with the tastiest pie ever, with beef, beer and crispy onions!

Been before and it was good. Just went in for a few drinks and got muscled from the bar for someone to take a photo of the beer pump taps. Thought it was some tourist wanting a souvenir. Wrong. It was one of the staff, Todd. Obviously his customer service skills need improving to learn to wait. Another disappointment is £1.75 for a bag of crisps.

Stopped by on a chilly day for a surprisingly tasty hot toddy. Sat outside and watched the passers by touching the Bobby statue and then took a walk through Greyfriar's Kirkyard directly behind the pub.

The charming waiters, the beautiful and very typical place and delicious typical Scottish food. We recommend the balmoral chicken and the haggis! Great!

Excellent restaurant where you can try beer and typical Scottish food. All very good. We tried the haggis, chicken belmore and meat pie. Everything very well cooked and delicious. Excellent service. If you don't know English there are several waiters who know Spanish. An ideal place to stop for a while, chat and eat something after taking a tour. It is behind the cemetery where the dog Boby is found. In front of the restaurant there is another statue of Boby. By the way, don't touch his nose, the Scots don't like that fashion.

Hi, On'8th of November we had a dinner in your pub. When we paid Mr. Christopher charged us twice for dinner (I have got the receipts); he said that you reimburse one payment immediately, but we don't received nothing. Could you provide as soon as possible? we paid twice the dinner because Mr Christopher said that bancomat doesn't work: 78,98£ paid twice!!!! We had the bills, None have refunded us although we contact them!

Spent 35 pounds per person for 4 people on 2 drinks each and a full meal with one shared appetizer. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was the best. Terribly sad story about the dog, but it's a great place for remembrance.

Found the greyfriar while wandering around the area and introduduced by the story of bobby by the road corner. 1st time pub goer in Edinburgh, protocol was to find a table then order, pay and wait for dinner and drink to be served. Finally had the opportunity to try a traditional fish pie and dark ale. Pie had some chunks of haddock, salmon and shrimp in creamy herby potato base and topped with melted cheese-wished ratio was more on the fish side but still delicious. Serving was solo and came with a side of long stemmed broccoli and carrot spears seasoned well. Guiness ale paired well. Ambiance was great for a friday evening and service was efficient.

Reasonably priced and delicious pub fare, and wasn't too crowded at lunchtime despite the iconic location. A lovely "Scottish" experience! Food was served incredibly quickly. There's a great selection of beer, and the bar staff are friendly.

was honestly really lovely, even though it was a bit busy but it was not too overwhelming and still a very lovely and cozy atmosphere to be in. food was brilliant as well, real big fan of the mac n’ cheese! personally could’ve been a bit of a bigger portion but that’s more a personal preference if anything

Management couldn't do anything about it

Pretty decent place. Personel didn't seem to really notice you. Took some time for someone to come to us as you had to be seated by an employee (and they were not busy at all.) Also had to ask to order as noone came up to us after reviewing the menu etc. Nothing to extreme just slightly disappointing. Employees were nice enough though, just not very aware. Decent food though and overall not too bad!

Really nice bar, food was tasty, pleasant atmosphere and the live music was great. The service was always very attentive, friendly and helpful, although on two different evenings we were asked to leave in a relatively unfriendly manner about 30-45 minutes before the bar closed, which seemed a little strange to us.

Visited this place with my family. I was SHOCKED at how stand off-ish and rude the manager was. I came here once during the fringe which was a positive experience but this won’t won’t have me back. Seems like different people and was not impressed. Won’t be back.

Lovely place, we feared it would be a tourist trap but it was one of the better pubs we visited in Edinburgh. Decent drinks and nice filling food, although their whiskies are incredibly pricey.

The interior is nice but I'll put it this way you wouldn't want to go in hungry. I'll be honest if could no stars I would We waited an hour for the food for the first dish and the carrots were raw me and 3 other friends came here the rest of the food was over an hour late. One of my friends waited an hour and a half and the chips as part of the burger were half cooked and didn't get her food until an hour and a half passed to say we all were disappointed is an understatement. I would not recommend it to anyone.

In the restaurant, you have to sit down and place your order at the counter. You take your drinks. The waitress gave us our dishes, didn't even really take us into account. She was not warm or smiling. Our table was wobbly. The dishes were good and hot.

Really nice place where to eat! I had the sausage and mash and it was delicious, my friend had the vegetarian version and liked it too! The team was nice and welcoming, bonus point for the location, very central and accessible! A good place where to have a nice meal after a busy day in Edinburg

Delicious food (in the picture the Nicholson Burger and Balmoral Chicken) and pleasant service, only towards the end you had the feeling that you had to say goodbye quickly so that other customers could take a seat.

Great staff, nice ambiance, good food. I had the fish pie which was really tasty. We were here also in 2016 and came back now 8 years later to find the same quality of food and friendliness of the staff. Highly recommended!

This bar was ok. Very very busy and difficult to get served at the bar. We drank outside as there was no room inside and people were waiting she's for a table. The beer was good (peroni) but they didn't have as good a selection as most other bars in the area. It was fun watching people getting their pictures taken with Bobby the dog across the road.

Stayed for a few drinks, all favorably priced. Service staff were all friendly - would definitely go back on a visit to Edinburgh

Food and atmosphere here was great. The staff were lovely to talk to. Great story about the dog which I’m sure attracts many tourists like ourselves. Very busy atmosphere and definitely recommend the fish here at Greyfriars I loved it.

OK, I was really looking forward to trying this place out even though we ended up here a day or two earlier than we expected. We had some time to kill from an adventure nearby so we thought we’d grab some fish and chips while we waited. One staff member was a little bit rude as though we were a bother to them, but another staff member was awesome and made up for the other staff members lack of decorum. This was our first meal in Scotland, and we were really looking forward to it. It was good, but I have to admit it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. Would I buy again if I was hungry?… yes. But I bet you there’s better fish and chips in Edinburgh Scotland and we hope to find it. still, the batter was very light and it was very fresh and very hot. I do suggest you try here especially if you like pubs and the pub atmosphere.

Well, the place is really beautiful, and the food tasted good, but even though the restaurant was quite empty, we weren't served until after 30 minutes. Very unfortunate.
