Excellent dining experience - great ambience with a live fireplace to warm the room and wonderful tasting. We selected the tasting sets for lunch versus the 3 course. Great wine pairing, and teas as well for non drinkers. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Timberyard is one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve had, anywhere in the world. They hosted us for dinner after our wedding ceremony. Jack, the sommelier listened to a special request that we sent over and then crafted a whole experience around that. It was totally unexpected and very special. The hosting staff are all lovely, highly attentive and so passionate about the experience. And finally the food, every course was simply outstanding. So well thought out and really well curated with local ingredients and traditional flavours. Could not recommend highly enough and thank you to all the staff that made it such a great experience.

Do not ever go here. Ever. The customer service is the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. We made a reservation and cancelled with enough time to spare. They did not respond to emails or pick up the phone. They then charged us $540. We walked over and they agreed to cancel the charge. A month later, we are still disputing with them. Honestly the food is not good enough to justify this type of behavior. Avoid at all costs!!!

My best ever solo dining experience. I last went to Timberyard 10 years ago and felt very looked after as a solo diner then. Returning to Edinburgh for the weekend meant I also had to return to Timberyard. I was sat at the bar rather than at a table and I was slightly apprehensive about this but I needn’t have been frankly as I had an absolutely superb time. The food, sourced perfectly, is outstanding, and the corresponding wine list is something I’d very much like to worn through a lot more of. I ended up adding things like truffle to one dish, and a glass of red wine for a mallard course. The staff were all brilliant. I was jealous of one guy’s incredible moustache and the guy who served me on the bar was great, recommending the Blue Blazer for a post dinner dram (and encouraging me to book Panda and Sons on the Sunday night). Loved it and can’t wait to go back.

Came here Christmas time last year for lunch and was instantly impressed with the big and beautiful space. Everyone is so nice and overall it was a great experience. We started with the cheddar gougeres and their shrimp dish which is served fully shelled. They recommend eating it this way but it really just wasn’t my style. The grilled mussels and the pheasant breast were both excellent. Between the two desserts the creme brulee style one was the clear favorite. The other one I didn’t enjoy so much. Would love to come back and give the food another chance as it wasn’t one of the most memorable meals we had in Edinburgh food wise.

Had this restaurant booked for a table for 2. Other member came down with an illness, and advised restaurant we had to cancel our booking first thing in the morning for that evening. I also advised we’d be rebooking our seat when we returned to the city on the near future. Edinburgh was at its busiest with high season, and three major events going on but restaurant said they will charge a 100 pound cancellation fee as they wouldn’t be able to fill the table. I get that they have policies, but a promise to rebook, particular circumstances, and the busiest tourist season of the year I figured they could offer a bit more compassion. Just out of curiousity, I called the restaurant 30 minutes prior to my original reservation and was told that seats were fully booked for the evening. With that greed and lies about not being able to fill the table, I will not be back. I hope the 100 pounds today was worth more than the several hundred they would have received from our party next month

Went to this restaurant to have a boozy lunch with family and Friends. The décor inside was ok and there was a nice atmosphere to the place. We opted to go for the 3 course menu and I selected a mushroom dish with a confit hens egg. When it arrived I can only assume the egg was used in making some kind of sauce as it was no where to be found. I also did not like the fact that the dish looked like somebody had spat on it. When are these Michelin star chefs going to relies that putting foam on a perfectly good dish does not make it appetizing for the eye of the consumer. It did taste ok but I felt it was a tad over seasoned for my taste. When the second course came (A Red Mullet dish) I was again disappointed to sea the chefs sputum on it. Also for my taste the fish was under cooked and parts seemed raw to me. The pudding was a blackcurrant oat oat ice-cream dish and this was well done, but could have done with a bit more of the ice cream. The staff were very attentive, but so much so I felt it was verging on intrusive. I also felt the trip to the toilet could have done with a bit better lighting, the stairs are dark and the lighting is poor. This is an accident waiting to happen. On the whole I expected the food to be better for the price you are paying here hence the 3 stars.

Lovely restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Exceptional staff who were very engaging throughout. We went for our anniversary which is next week. We had one tasting menu, one vegetarian tasting menu with paired wine. The snacks at the start were ample. The truffle & Comte egg was my favourite and hubby loved the squid. Hubby had girolles and laganory, scallops and bath chaps, turbot and lobster butter, Hereford beef & kampot pepper, tayberry, strawberry symphony and rose pastel, blaeberry meadowsweet tart and Madeline. I had girolles, cauliflower and tropea onion, summer squash and horseradish, hen of the woods, rocket flowers and kampot pepper, tayberry, strawberry symphony and pastel, blaeberry meadowsweet tart and Madeline. Unlike others we were stuffed and went away happy with our tea bag. Awesome start to finish with some unusual wines and a lampic ale.

I am trying to figure out how this place is rated so high perhaps it’s just not my thing I have dined in many Michelin star rated restaurants and this was by far my least favorite. The ownership and team are engaged. They know who they are and what they’re presenting, they go to great measures to explain, their locally sourced and high attention to ingredients and I felt their passion but at the end of the day I paid a lot of money and left hungry My wife and daughter played up the flavors of the tastings trying to make me feel better about my choice. I found out later in the trip that when I went to sleep that night, they went out and got something to eat. OK, the premise is great. The food isn’t bad. Just a lot of money for three people leaving looking for a place to eat. Please note that the menu is price fixed and it is a tasting menu which equates to two very small slices of a steak not the steak I would avoid this restaurant!

There's nothing more to say for food and service as they were exceptional. The wine list is extensive, and we asked for a suggestion with our price range. I don't think the guy who brought the wine was a sommelier since he didn't know much, and it was 50% over our price range. A sommelier returned with a wine that fit our needs. The ambiance is old, rustic, and kinda cozy, but very poor acoustics. Some sound dampening panels would be nice to elevate the experience for a restaurant of this scale. The Washroom was dimmed for ambiance, but I think it was too dark to be safe and posed a trip/fall hazard.

We went for the full tasting menu, and the additional cheese course, and could not fault a thing. All the dishes were so creative and there were so many combinations where it shouldn’t work, but does! We also really liked seeing the ingredients on the tray that was brought around. Probably one of the most enjoyable Michelin Star restaurants we have experienced. It started with incredible service. I was extremely impressed by the ownership every single person in the restaurant had. Every organization has a hierarchy… it was not clear what it was here as every person was responsible for any and every last detail of providing excellent service (even ones that were not part of the team taking care of our table). At one point, my wife dropped her napkin and within seconds a random person showed up and handed her a clean one. Now we can talk about the delicious food. Every dish had sauces that had us wanting to lick the plate. Each and every dish was expertly crafted creating a beautiful multi sensory experience. We will be back the next time we’re in Edinburgh. The turbot and the game birds were handled expertly. As a matter of fact, this place offer some of the best food that I have had. Service was okay. It felt that they paid more attention to certain customers than others. Compared to the other one-Michelin-star places in town, Timberyard had the least impressionable service. The selection for wine by glass is quite limited as well. The ambiance is modern and cool. It looks like they repurposed a factory or warehouse into a restaurant. The restroom has this cool sound in the hand washing area. Overall, this would have been a perfect dinner if the service were better.

Always tasty, but unmemorable and the courses didn't complement each other, so no flow. The alcohol pairings made little sense. Overpriced, poor service. I would say poor customer service, but they don’t look at you as customers. You are on their time. Restaurants seem to forget they are also in the hospitality business not the food making business. Timberyard doesn’t feel they need to operate to serve customers, they operate to serve themselves. They are open just 4 days a week or sometimes 3 days a week depends on how they feel. They clearly can’t fill up a lunch service or dinner service on a weeknight so the food must be average. Support restaurants that stay open, they need the business. Not arrogant business owners that operate weekend gigs.

A well executed light lunch. I didn't enjoy the atmosphere as much though. Price slightly on the high side for the overall experience. The timber rawness of the space was also reflected in their poor workmanship of the floor board installation. Every time their servers walked around me, the floor board acted like a see-saw and bounced my chair. For a few times, I was putting food towards my mouth when that happened. So embarrassing that I almost missed it and made a mess. The interior dining area was rather chilled even in the summertime. Toilet facilities were inside an added-on cubicle and felt too temporary to be comfortable.

We visited Timberyard based on Google reviews & its achievement of one Michelin star (which is a big deal!). And, perhaps it was the tasting menu on offer that day (included in this review), but the food was unpleasant. Creativity & novel use of ingredients is appreciated -- but only if the end result actually tastes good. But almost every single dish was a gross combination of flavours. Many of our dishes we left untouched after one bite. We felt disappointed as Timberyard does come very well reviewed. I did have the soft drink pairing & that was well done. Inventive & well paired flavours. In fact, I'd give the execution 5 stars! Perhaps it was the menu on offer? I feel bad to write this review - as the presentation was lovely & you could tell effort had been put in. Timberyard is not a total write-off, as the premises are historical & the vibe relaxed. Although the piping in of the cacophonic fiddles was grating & repetitive. And apparently one of the staff recorded sounds of their wine-making from their casks? This recording of "bloop-bloop" sounds is then piped into the bathroom. Most of us just want to have some peace & quiet in the restroom - not have odd sounds klaxoned into the loo. There's a time & place for creativity. Perhaps I was already on edge after listening to an hour of "new age" fiddling. Servers are accomodating & enthusiastic about the food served but were difficult to hear over the aforementioned fiddles. But, no amount of explanation would have made the food taste any better, to be honest. I regretfully cannot recommend this restaurant. And we were really looking forward to our experience. Perhaps really take a look at the menu on hand before giving it a try...

We enjoyed the tasting menu with paired drinks. The food was delicious 5/5. Loved how the first part of the meal was lots of little snacks. Very original, lovely way to start the meal. The drink pairings 4/5, the final wine was nice but didn't really compliment the dessert. I'm really nit picking but also thought it odd to be served only one red wine. The white wines were delicious, but the wine selection did feel unbalanced as a result. The service was a 2/5. After ordering the paired tasting menu, we were asked if we would want some sparkling wine, I said yes, and began to read the menu and the waitress never came back to take my order before we were served our first drink. We were handed a tea/coffee/digestive menu near the end of our meal, but again no one came to take an order and we had to flag a member of staff down. Around 10 minutes after our last drink, a server told us that we had overstayed our reservation and wanted us to move from the table. Since we had ordered the tasting menu, the staff had complete control of the timings each course was served and being rushed off our table left a sour note at the end of an otherwise pleasant dinner.

You enter through a large wooden door into a lovely open space which is welcoming with candles. You then go through a glass door into the restaurant. Wooden flooring and rustic surroundings with candles on all the tables. Lighting is low. The staff were attentive and explained what each course was. The starters were delicious and each course was very tasty. The presentation was also lovely. There was one course I was not keen on and they offered me a vegetarian option. We went for the non alcoholic drinks with each course. They were all very unique and enjoyable.

To say that we were impressed would be an understatement. TIMBERYARD is located inconspicuously amongst other standard Edinburgh fare on Lady Lawson street, but it’s presence was thoroughly felt from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left. The ambiance was beautifully rustic, the staff was incredibly welcoming, and the food was perfect. My partner loved the scallop dish in particular, saying it was the best scallop she had ever had in her life. We would love to come back to TIMBERYARD on our next trip to Edinburgh, and would highly recommend anyone else do the same. Thank you for a great evening.

Had an extraordinary time at Timberyard, a prestigious 1-Michelin star restaurant in Edinburgh. Renowned for its commitment to quality, the restaurant sources ingredients from small artisan growers and suppliers. Opted for the 3-course lunch (£60) and chose the beef tartare, pheasant, and vanilla dessert. Every dish was a masterpiece—perfectly seasoned tartare, tender pheasant, and a dessert that harmonized wonderfully with their caramel sauce. An exquisite dining experience! 🌟🍽️

This was one of the most memorable dining experiences we've had in a very long time. The service was impeccable throughout, relaxed but engaging. We sat at the bar and each of the staff were fun and friendly with an extensive knowledge of both the food and (huge) wine selection that they had on offer. We opted for the tasting menu and were not disappointed. The pink fir potato was like an indulgent cheesy chips, the turbot dish was honestly one of the best we have ever tasted, and this was closely followed by the equally delicious pheasant. Charlie helped provide excellent wine selections throughout. All in all a cracking experience, one of the most laid back, informal but hugely enjoyable Michelin experiences we've had.

Exceptional meal in a unique converted warehouse setting with wood fires burning and overall very romantic. The food itself blew us away, with locally sourced produce and a carefully crafted tasting menu by a chef that clearly cares about the ingredients he uses and creates unique flavour combinations. One of our favourite tasting menus we’ve eaten in a long time, highlights included the bonito tuna and the pheasant dish, but to be honest it is hard to mark favourites when we enjoyed them all! We had 3 different waiting staff during the meal and all were competent and professional. If you find yourself in Edinburgh, this spot is definitely worth a visit if you can get a reservation.

Wine fail! Dishes, service, music, style, vibe all good. Turbot, pheasant exceptional. But paired wine with tasting menu was not befitting of the Michelin star. The paired wines appeared selected for rarity or obscurity rather than quality, and were a bit of parody of fine dining. Moving between thin and and oxidated finshing with a crescendo of home-fermented vinegar, just like the fruit vinegars I prepare myself for salad dressings! Quirky wine has to be interesting and good, not interesting and something between bland and unpleasant (contrast e.g. Heron or Condita equivalents). The whites were also served slightly cold, so improved a bit in the glass. Only perhaps three of the paired wines did anything special for the dishes and that includes a pinot noir from the Sierras which divided opinion in our party. Not the £220+ per person experience I expected, nor one I will subject myself to it again. Pity, because there was much to like about the place.

Came to this spot for a light lunch, did not realise it was the owner of a single Michelin star. Pleasant surprise for my wallet. I am familiar with Michelin star establishments and Timber Yard had all the typical niceties; exceptional food, eloquent setting and atmosphere with a nice rustic edge, and perfect service. A beautiful selection of wines. There is nothing I can fault. Its expensive, sure, but you get what you pay for with these types of establishment. Would I return? Candidly, as pleasant as it was, I won’t be rushing back. Primarily because I enjoy the atmosphere and menu of a more humble spot like the Palmerston; a venue with Michelin flavour and ingredients without the jazz hands. Overall, great spot if you enjoy Michelin.

Awful. Just awful. Sent my dishes back. Scallops and lobster smothered in creams…why? Food not explained. Uncomfortable seating. Overpriced drinks. Ridiculous wine menu.

The venue is stunning and has a warm and cosy atmosphere. The outside doesn't look like much but then it's surprisingly grand inside. Really appreciated the log burner and real candles, felt very welcoming. The food was incredible; my favourite course was the scallop course, closely followed by the dessert. Each course was a delight. What I did not appreciate was that we had to wait 45 minutes until we had a drink on the table. We were even served our first course before our wine. We were early and there weren't many guests at that time either. I would expect better service from a Michelin star restaurant. Lastly, it would have been nicer if we had one allocated waiter and not 7 different ones for each time someone attended the table. Hopefully, this will be taken as the constructive feedback that it's meant to be.

Very nice dinner, we especially liked the celery ravioli! Wine pairing was a bit too fancy (too many natural wines which barely anyone of us liked). Would definitely go again, but without drinks pairing

My husband and I came here because of the reviews. We both chose the 5 course tasting menu. I let the waiter know beforehand that I do not eat offal. Our waitress took note and assured me I would not have it in any of my dishes. First course low and behold is liver pate on a cracker in front of me. I ate a piece of bread and a very thinly sliced piece of meat. Second Course was tempura broccoli with some type of soup. The tempura on the broccoli was way too greasy. Soup was delicious. Next was a fresh lobster dish that I was very excited about, however it was doused in some type of cream that almost tasted like the sauce they put on top of sushi. Absolutely ruined the lobster and my husband had to finish it for me. The next course I gave to my husband because it was awful. Next was the scallop dish which came with a ton of cream. That was absolutely unnecessary. Scallops are delicious alone or just the tiniest bit of seasoning, the cream once again ruined the dish. The main course that I ordered was a partridge however, they did not inform me that the partridge came out with its talons still intact. I wish I would have been given a heads up, I sent the dish back however before doing so I did take a bite and it was bland at best. Next was a cheese plate that had melted cheese over some type of fruit cake. I sent it back, it looked and smelled awful. I sent most of my dishes back to the kitchen and was charged full price. We left and went to a local pub and had a hearty meal. The staff was incredibly friendly. The seating is VERY uncomfortable. I feel like the extensive wine list is there for people so they can get drunk and not realize how bad the food is. What a disgrace.

If you are looking for an old school drinking pub with character, you couldn't pick better! Doesn't serve food to save confusion.
