Good local beers, some bigger brands like Guinness on tap as well. New beers are constantly getting added and switched out to keep the selection fresh. If beer isn't for you, there's a good selection of spirits, with a smaller selection of bottled wines and beers. Cosy atmosphere with a bartend who can only be described as a pleasant hippy Santa lookalike. Friendly and chatty, would recommend.

A vibrant cozy micropub with a selection of varied affordable drinks, ranging from craft beers and ciders, to your usual bar classics. The Tipsy Toad has been a shining light in the growing Heaton Road Scene; since its opening, the pub has garnered almost a cult clientele, in the same way a cult classic movie builds its own community. It is frequented by regulars who come for the Buskers Nights (a favourite of mine), Quiz Nights, the relatively new games room, other events, and of course, just for a lovely drink in a lively but cozy atmosphere with friends. Everyone is welcome here. While I can't speak for enjoyers of beers and such, as a lover of fruity drinks, the collection of tasty craft ciders here blows my mind every time. It's unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. Truly my favourite place to drink. The decor here builds an atmosphere tavern-esque wonder, with focus on browns, oranges and neutral colours with pops of vibrant colour, coupled with warm lighting, that makes this place shine like a cozy fireplace in Heaton's Nightlife. This place feels friendly and familiar. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Some LGBTQ+ wins here, with first of all its welcoming nature, I've seen people from all walks of life frequent this venue, be involved with its community. I can assure you from personal experience, no one is here to judge, and there would be a problem if they were. Secondly, this place has 2 unisex single-stall restrooms, which takes all of the hassle out of managing toilets for the evening for all us trans, nonbinary or otherwise gender non-conforming folks. Overall, I don't think Heaton would be the same without this place. I grew up round the corner from here, and I can't comprehend that for most of my life, this pub wasn't here. It feels like such a staple of the local community, and I hope it stays here for a long time. Come here, get your drinks, have a good night.

One of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had. Was so looking forward to trying this place. They have two breweries on the doorstep and yet they sell nothing local and mostly mass produced. Had a pint of Grand Central beer which was average at best. The worst part was a lady (who I presume was part of the staff as soon as we sat down she started screeching and ranting about customers, recanted a story about a run in with another pub/taproom. Every other word screamed was the F word. I could hardly hear my boyfriend talk. She dominated the place with her foul language. Although some lawyer was giving out free legal advice. NEVER EVER GO HERE!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Unique and quirky micropub. The back room occasionally shows sports but is otherwise a helpful expansion to the main bar. Small but regularly changing lineup of international beers and ciders, fridges stocked with bottles and cans and a wall of spirits for those that partake! Local art on the walls and occasional session musicians jamming in the corner. Only complaint is the size means it fills up quickly and becomes hard to navigate. Otherwise a great local venue.

One of the best establishments on Heaton road. The tipsy toad is a micro pub, where you can get drinks, hang out with mates, and have a good time! The thing with pubs, is that they're all the same ... At least usually. The Tipsy Toad is one of the most welcoming environments you can experience. From the rustic decoration to the cozy size, you'll quickly find yourself making friends with the regulars and sharing laughs over your drinks. Everyone here is friendly. There's often a good selection of drinks to choose from, so everyone will be happy here. Although the size can often leave the building a little cramped later into the evening, it really just adds to the coziness and closeness with everyone. It's like a modern day tavern you'd see in a fantasy novel. Wednesday's will see quiz nights, but not your typical quizzes, as this include a mixture of unique and comedic rounds; no one gives a toss if they win the quiz, because everyone has fun while doing in! Thursday's will see buskers nights, where you're welcome to listen to various regulars sing and play instruments, or join in yourself! All in all, you'll always have a good time ... Plus the quizzes include free shots! Some other plusses include Gender Neutral toilets for those who require them, darts are available to play, and a selection to insense sticks you're free to light while enjoying your drink! Edit: Apparently I've also reviewed this place a while ago on an old account! Just goes to show the consistency of how amazing this place is

Just moved into the area and after a few visits thought this might be a great regular spot for me and the dog. Rocked up late - 10.40pm - on a rainy night after a long drive, hoping for a quick pint before closing, to be told that the bar is shut and closing time actually means when the shutters go down. Closing time in my world means when the last drinks are served, otherwise what's the point of advertised hours. Annoyed? Definitely. Return? Unlikely.

Simply wonderful. Like the tardis it's bigger on the inside. It's warm and inviting and most certainly fits all the right tick boxes for a decent local. It's fair priced, well stocked and immediately screams welcome, we're all family here. The other customers are warm and chatty, there's a smoking area out the back and lovely loos. It's clean and beautifully decorated. A great blend of the outdoors meets old tavern. We were in on a Tuesday evening and it was fairly busy but plenty of seats and the atmosphere/bantz was spot on.

Sometimes I wish I had an extra star for places like this, plenty of places deserve five stars because they do what they do flawlessly. This however really is a personal favorite of mine. It's cosy, relaxed and they did this fancy cider which is the best I've ever had. I remember the pricing was pretty much standard for a beer in Newcastle and yet this is good stuff. I'll try and find out the name and edit the review. So in terms of core functions of a bar it's already surpassed much of the competition but it keeps going. They have: an extensive set of board games, a bowel of free vintage matches and free incense if that's your thing. So I very much enjoyed my tipsy game of chess, discussing The Cure with a friendly stranger as I re-lit the incense with the vintage matches provided.

The joint is quite small (of course) with a quirky front bar area and rear seating, but you'll cram in quite a few still I reckon. My Guinness was top, definitely no quality issues there. The vibe, though quiet was friendly also. It has been open nigh on a year now and through tough times for all. Give it a look! The number one bus heads right to the door nigh on, plus Shields and Chillingham Road are well within walking distance.

Interesting concept, a micropub in a former takeaway shop. A good range of ciders currently available; some unusual beers also on offer. The negative aspect is that the unisex toilets often present as malodorous and unpleasant, which has an impact on one's determination to remain in the rear room from which the loo is accessed.

The tipsy toad is a Micro Pub that opened in my local area recently. I haven't been to many micro pubs, but this one seriously takes the cake on how small it is. The small size, combined with the CTO (warm white) lighting creates a cost atmosphere, adding to the overall enjoyment. There's something about how cosy this place is that adds to the experience, and honestly, I'm in love with it. Whoever was responsible for the interior decorating of this place needs awarded. The place has a mixture of recycled things, such as table tops or chairs made from driftwood, and other items, and modern day decoration, such as a toilet decorated from top to bottom with posters or different artists, such as Jason Derulo, etc. Speaking of the toilets, I don't know whether it's due to the small size or excellent staff, but they are spotless. Not a tiniest bit of mess anywhere, and this is the first time I've seen a public toilet look as amazing as this. Not only this, but the toilets are separated by gender, as there are only 2 individual cubicles, which I love, because gender neutral toilets??? Omg??? We need more of those if I'm honest. Sticking close to it's role as a micro pub, the bar doesn't have a large variety of drinks to choose from. While in most environments, this may be something that I would lower my review for, the small scale of this pub makes this its biggest advantage. I tried new drinks, some I loved such as sweet cider, others I didn't like (but that's just my taste, and I can appreciate that other people may like them). All of the drinks are excellent. Having only interacted with 1 staff member (I don't know her name, but she was working the morning of 15/12/19, to give some credit) I can't really give a clear opinion of all of the staff. But if the rest of the staff are as kind and helpful as this 1 staff member, I would rate the pub 6 stars if I could. I enjoyed this place so much. More than I enjoy most places, and it even prompted me to ask if they were hiring, and I left my contact details with them, because working there seems like such a good job, and such a good environment. I am very impressed. I wish I could have gotten more photos, but my camera is broken, so the quality is really temperamental.

An incredible find in the heart of Newcastle. A small cozy restaurant with an absolutely wonderful menu. Wine selection is simply top notch. The service is prompt and excellent. Arguably the best mid-tier(£) restaurant in Newcastle. And for those of you who know Cook house, expect nothing less from Long Friday.

Been here a few times and the food is always of a decent standard. However last night me and my girlfriend decided to try a couple of different sushi options and one of them was crab. I was absolutely perplexed when they brought out our sushi with two crab sticks adorned on them. When I indicated to the waiter that we expected some sort of fresh crab meat he laughed awkwardly. For the price you pay your can get much better food elsewhere, you mainly pay for the theatre. Unfortunately after £130+ for two dinners, one bottle of wine and two soft drinks, I will not be back again.

Xiao Long Bao 10/10. Steamed prawn and cabbage dumplings also great. Try them with the vinegar, soy & chilli oil all mixed together. My only wish would be see a really hot chilli oil/sauce to try, as I tried both but they didn’t quite kick as much as I would have liked. Wasn’t a problem though.
