We really enjoyed food in this restaurant. Arrived there around 10:25 pm, are cordially invited by staff and owner. Food is fresh, very tasty.

Excellent experience at Simla. We've visited twice now and would definitely recommend. Food is fantastic and service is great, I've never felt rushed to finished drinks or pay the bill. We'll definitely be back

Delighted by the entirety of our experience. We gladly stumbled across Simla, cheerfully greeted by a welcoming host, who provided our group of 7 with window seats and view. Catering was excellent as was many complimentary sides and digestifs. Will be recommending to others.

Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor—especially the [insert standout dish, e.g., “grilled sea bass”]. The ingredients were fresh, and you could tell a lot of care went into the preparation. Highly recommend this place—can’t wait to come back!

This opened at 5:30 and we arrived at 5:35 as we hadn't booked and were warmly welcomed in, the incense smell transported me to the foothills of Himachal Pradesh, magical. We ordered 2x starters and two mains with rice and Naan and two drinks coming to £53 which is well worth it given the food quality and service, nothing will ever replace my local takeaway but for fine dining Indian cuisine this place and staff is exceptional, I'll go back to try some other unique dishes.

Disappointed to find that our £15 tip turned out to be £25 when we checked our bank account.

Lovely food, rapid service and a nice atmosphere would recommend. I would like a spicy chutney with my poppadoms but that's just my preference.

Aw, absolutely outstanding food here today! Visited with my partner and arrived a little early for our reservation and got there just as it was opening. We were the only ones in. Great choice of drinks and my hubby opted for cobra while I opted for rose wine. We opted for poppadoms for a pre starter and we're offered a choice of normal or spiced. As we were heading out for drinks we didn't get a starter and went straight in for the mains. I went for the coastal curry while hubby opted for the lamb masala. We also got a stuffed peshawari naan and saffron pulao rice. Good wait times and staff were so attentive and friendly. Food was amazing. The lamb masala was unlike any other masala we'd had before - the lamb was so tasty but it had really made the masala so flavoursome. Also, this masala was unlike any other masala we have ever had before too, it really was devine. Peshwari naan was great too. Will definitely be back!

Great selection and depth of flavours in the dishes. Vegetarian options were wonderful. Highlight was the lamb tarka, haven’t had anything like that before.

Each dish demonstrated exceptional flavour and attention to detail, showcasing a kitchen that clearly understands the layering of ingredients and how they evolve on the palate. Even the more traditional main courses were elevated, with every element cooked to perfection. The naan breads were light, crisp, and bubbly, while the sides—Bombay Aloo and Tarka Daal—matched the quality of the mains, rich in flavour and flawlessly balanced. The service was warm and genuine, delivered by staff who clearly take pride in what they do. For the quality on offer, the pricing felt more than fair. Simla isn’t just another curry house—it’s a special dining experience. We’ll absolutely be returning. Congratulations to the whole team!

Quite possibly the best kept secret in Newcastle. Except it's always busy, so perhaps not so secret. Exceptional cuisine served by wonderful staff in a very cosy setting. Any number of superlatives aren't good enough to describe Simla. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Me and my Fiancé went here on Saturday night as soon as it opened. We were not disappointed at all. My dish was recommended by Adil and was told that if I didn't like it then I could have a refund. I can clearly see why he made that statement as it was genuinely the best dish I've ever had at an Indian restaurant. My partner also enjoyed her meal. She is Vegetarian so was pleased that there was a separate section of the menu that had a good variety. Adil greeted us as soon as we walked in and addressed me by name. Very polite, attentive and professional service. The rest of the staff were great also showing that standards start from the top. The bill came and I was surprised at how good the price was (obviously everything was priced but I didn't really pay attention to them). overall there's not a single thing I could fault. service was above and beyond. food was simply devine and a perfect portion size and the price was outstanding. I can't wait to visit again 15/10 ❤️

We were table of 9 dining on a busy Saturday evening. From the moment we arrived, we were all made to feel very welcome and not rushed in our selections, even being one of their busier nights. Our starters and mains came in a timely fashion, and everybody commented on how delicious their food was. The service provided by Abdul and the team was very attentive. Thank you all for a lovely evening.

One of best Indian restaurants I’ve been too, and theres been a few. Everything about this place is great its a must visit book make sure you book.

We visited this restaurant with our family and had a very nice experience. Adil and all the staff are extremely nice and helpful despite having a full restaurant they were very attentive to customers and made sure every table was looked after. The food was amazing, very authentic and we will definitely be returning. I highly recommend this restaurant and would advise booking a reservation in advance as they are very busy. Loved this place. The dishes were hot, spicy and full of flavour! Good vegetarian options.

The amount of food they giving to you is just a joke. We’ve payed 98 pounds for nothing. All other Indian restaurants are offering more. I will recommend Khai Khai instead of that. So if you want small portions, overpriced prices and dodgy rice puddings this is the place to go! We were really disappointed. We came all the way from Germany to try it, unfortunately it didn’t go well. We will avoid that place in the future.

It's becoming an annual tradition to dine here on NYE. My partner and stepson just love it. The service is at the right level of attentiveness whilst also giving space to enjoy your meal. We are greeted and treat like old friends (if we dine without my stepson he's always asked after). The food is outstanding and the waiting staff are always there with a recommendation to try something new. The poppadoms are light and crispy. The curries are just packed with flavour and the naan breads are soft and perfectly cooked. The restaurant is cosy, with just the right level of background chatter but still feeling intimate with your party. It's definitely a family favourite that we save for special occasions.

Arrived on time for an 8pm reservation, however we had to stand awkwardly by the bar for almost half an hour until a table became available. Apologies were given but this tainted what was supposed to be a special birthday meal. No service recovery was offered, which was disappointing. We were then made to feel bad for not leaving a tip! Unlikely to be returning on this basis.

I had an incredible dining experience at Simla Restaurant in Newcastle! Came here the first time with my family and second time with my boyfriend, always a pleasure to come back due to the top notch service from the head waiter, Abdul! I get treated with special treats of extra paneer cheese and a glass of drink, very very good service. They closed at 11PM earlier and still welcomed me and my boyfriend at 10 mins to 11PM. Not a fan of Indian food but this place is absolutely perfect! Ordered Lamb Rogan Josh, cheese naan, and paneer chese and they were absolutely delicious, spices are perfectly balanced, not too over. The presentation was perfect too, very clean, good portion. Good value of price for the service, food, and ambience. This is definitely the hidden gem in Newcastle and a must-visit for anyone who wants to get the best of both worlds: service and food. Definitely would return for the quality of food and services!

I recently visited Simla, an Indian restaurant in Newcastle, with a group of friends. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Although we had a reservation for 8:00 p.m., we had to wait for about 20 minutes before being seated, which was a bit inconvenient. Once we were seated, the service was prompt and attentive, ensuring our dining experience was enjoyable. However, the noise level in the restaurant made it challenging to converse with my friends without raising our voices. Despite the delay in seating and the noise, Simla redeemed itself with its delicious food. The dishes were well-prepared and full of flavor, showcasing the rich and diverse tastes of Indian cuisine. The portions were adequate, leaving us all feeling satisfied. In conclusion, although there were some minor issues with seating and noise, the friendly service and delectable food at Simla made it a worthwhile experience. I would recommend it to others, but do keep in mind that it can get a bit loud and busy during peak hours.

All we can say is WOW!!! We were welcomed late last Tuesday after staying overnight in Newcastle after a concert. Amazing service and food was just first class. We love our curries and this is the best we’ve ever had, our taste buds were popping!! The only downside is we live in Nottingham otherwise we would be back most weekends. We would return to Newcastle just to dine with you again, THANKYOU.

Adil and his colleagues did a brilliant job squeezing us in at the last minute on a Thursday. The food and ambience was great and we wished this was our local restaurant! Looking forward to coming back again!

Wow the food was amazing. The service was great and food within 15 mins of ordering it. Reasonably priced also. I would highly recommend

Booked a table for 8:30 when I called to book they said they are usually busy but this time should be fine for two people. We were greeted at the door into a passage way and the lady was extremely lovely, table would be a little while but shouldn't be long. Five mins later we were asked to go inside to stand at the bar. 20 mins later. There was then a table of 4 (soon 6 free). As we were stood at the bar this table was then filled. We booked our table nearly a week earlier we were eventually sat 25 mins late. We received free poppadoms for the delay which was nice but we were only two people.. Food menu was very adequate with minimal veggie options. Small venue, no adequate bar facilities, food wasn't spectacular however the service was a 5/5.

Newcastle appears to have a lot of good quality Indian restaurants and ths is definitely one of the good ones. An extensive menu with plenty of vegetarian options and a good drinks list (I love Bombay Bicycle IPA). Food was very, very good. Service was efficient and well timed and the staff friendly and professional. We'd highly recommend.

I use to love this place as a musician it was a go to place as food was good fairly priced and open until well beyond 2am Food is ok now but too fancy so as to justify the huge price - it use to be friendly but now its staffed by young staff that care more about their looks than service They have stopped doing poppadoms and now do a bowl of shapes (not many in but pricy) And shutting too early - ive given up on it
