I used to love this place as a kid when they did the character trails where you could win prizes at the end after finding all of the characters from movies or tv shows. You used to be able to buy more items in the train gift shop and you could ride the little train up and down through the woods. In recent years however the train hasn’t been open except from the museum section, there is only one scavenger trail which is picking up rocks etc and as far as I am aware the train may not be running ( at least it wasn’t when we went). The cafe has stayed the same throughout and serves really good food and drinks, the walk is also nice and there is a mini playground for younger and slightly older children. I do however believe that it feels a bit unloved compared to its previous days

This place could be a little gem, but the food is a rip off. My advice would be bring a nice picnic as it’s a lovely spot for a walk by the river. The wait to queue up and order the food was long and then wasn’t worth the wait as the paninis were tasteless and dry. The cake was the same. Sorry but next time we will bring our own food.

Really recommend this place when you want something relaxing, not expensive and easy to do! It's perfect for families, couples, dogs, elderly people, anyone really. The cafe is really nice, we had coffee and cake and then for a lovely walk in an easy loop by the river and very pretty Meadows. Dogs can dip at the edge of the river. There are toilets and lots of seating for cafe customers and picnics too, and there is a big shaded tent area with picnic tables. There are some statues in a circle including King Arthur and Sabrina the mermaid. The train carriages and station are cute and have some train history plus tourist information maps and booklets which is useful, it's also nice and cool in there so it's a good opportunity when you've been walking and have tired legs, to stop here for a couple of hours. There is some adventure play equipment including zip wire and lots of space, plus parking is pretty cheap. You can go for long walks or bikes rides from here too, along the disused railway and there is a map. There is also a little stretch of miniature railway. Would visit again!

This place was magical to experience. It has a wide range of history and the new train museum was spectacular. The staff were very friendly and were always enthusiastic to ask any questions you may have. The food and coffees were excellent , and if you go during Easter half term , I recommend you try the fantastic Easter egg hunt and the miniature train rides ( which is open all spring and summer ) ! Overall , a wonderful experience and I would gladly go again.

I have visited this cafe numerous times either by car with my family or on my motorbike. They do a great breakfast and lunch plus serve a selection of hot and cold drinks. Their coffee is nice and not of the instant variety. It is closed during the winter period and normally opens around early April. There are some great walks from the cafe to suit children, adults and dogs. Don’t miss this little gem if you are visiting Tintern.

We’ve been a few times over the last 12 or so years and it never disappoints. Today’s visit was interrupted by heavy showers but the benches and brollys outside kept us perfectly dry. Only disappointment was not to see bara brith on the cake counter, but the food and drink we had were spot on, as was the service. Always worth the detour.

Visited on 20th June for a quick visit before starting a long journey. Able to park ok, had to pay £2 but as this helps to maintain the site happy to pay this. Looked at the information displays in the railway carriages along with the physical items on display. The miniature railway wasn't running but would be good to see for future visitors. Visited the cafe, greeted by friendly staff member, bought some items from the shop and ordered drinks / snacks which were brought out to the table Sitting outside in the sun was lovely. The grounds are well kept and tidy and sited within the Wye Valley the views were fantastic. Onsite toilets were clean too. Happy to recommend to anyone in the area.

From Tintern Abbey we took a five mile hike uphill to find a pub that we were going to visit in the evening, and then back down again. Then we strode on, through the entire length of Tintern and out on the A466. The road follows a bend in the river east and then continues north upstream towards Monmouth. We then reached this very picturesque station location about midway between Tintern and Brockweir. As a functioning railway station it has long since closed (in fact in 1959). The buildings however have been restored, and converted into a café. There are attractions on site for families (see my review of Tintern Old Station). Our visit this time was to enjoy lunch in the highly rated café situated in the station waiting rooms. There is seating inside the café and outside on a large and pleasant lawn. We decided to dine inside as the weather was a bit chilly. We studied the menu and having developed a substantial appetite we ordered an equally substantial lunch. I ordered a ‘Baked Potato with Coronation Chicken’ and my Partner ordered a ‘Coronation Chicken Sandwich’ made with wholemeal bread. Both plates came with a side salad with balsamic dressing, and my Partner plate also had some crisps, my plate had a small serving of coleslaw. Both meals were excellent, the Coronation Chicken was superb and it was eaten with gusto. The tea we ordered was good and strong. Signs offering a locally made ice cream featuring double cream made us buy some, but the ice cream was poor; taste-wise it was a pale imitation of the real stuff we can get at home from a local ice cream that is sold nationwide.

We just wanted to stop and have a decent coffee on our way to Tintern Abbey. This is certainly a lovely place to visit if you're into old stations like us, but there is a silly £2 parking charge, which applies even if you want to just stop at the café. We nearly didn't bother to be honest, but decided to stay as we needed to stretch our legs. The station staff were friendly and the coffee was excellent. The views are really lovely and you can at least get a table as there are loads of them. It just seems a short sighted you can't at least have the parking charge reduced if you purchase food and drinks. Probably won't be back I'm afraid.

Nice setting, you pay a minimum of £2 to park, which is fine if you have kids who want to run around and play, or you are happy to stroll around the site and are interested in the railway history. The actual cafe is disappointing. For a start you can only pay by card, which you only find out from a sign at the door. The old station building has been depressingly 'converted' and is chilly, draughty, ill lit, incredibly dull and joyless- a pity as it could be made much of and be far more welcoming. There is no sense whatever of the history of the building. We were there on a reasonably warm, fine day, so sitting outside was OK, wouldn't have wanted to be there when it was cool/wet/windy. Coffee was OK and one member of staff was very helpful and pleasant. Had intended to have a snack but settled for Welsh cakes which were dry (stale??). Won't be bothering again, there are much better options in the area.

My husband went in to order a pot of tea and SLICE OF CAKE. Nothing appealed to me so I waited outside. My husband came out with SLIVER OF CAKE + pot of tea. It was an achievement to have cut such a small sliver without it disintegrating. So - no bread pudding, no value for money, just the pleasant surroundngs, which hopefully cannot also be spoilt. I called only to take luncheon. Unfortunely the menu was very unimaginative and offered little choice. The "chunky" ham and mustard sandwiches were a disappointment, breaded with something akin to sliced, plastic 'mothers pride' and accompanied by an apologetic slice of cucumber. My advice to the kitchen is to cut your bread from fresh crusty loaves and fill your sandwiches with bacon, avocado, chicken, salmon, cured meats, etc. and invent. Ham and cheese fillings are just good enough. Have you heard of a croque monsieur or Welsh rarebit? Caeser or warm pidgeon brest or chicken liver salads? Frankly, you'd probably get better fare at a Skegness seaside cafe...

Had an over priced coffee, had a look through train. Would be better if presented as a working station

Saw a sign for the Old Station and remembered I had read something about it.Couldn't remember what so turned in and saw two train carriages looked interesting. I love trains so parked and went to look round. The carriages are a shop and a function room, where a group were having a cream tea.The station waiting room has been turned into a lovely tearoom, counted three types of gluten free cake.A small train was also running ,big enough for adults as well as children to ride on .

A nice find at the end of the walks from Tintern Abbey, serves a nice variety of good food, prices are okay, a little steep for some items. Cream teas were nice, scones fresh. A nice relaxing location with plenty of seating.

I have been to the Old Station at Tintern many times so, as we were staying locally, I took my daughter-in-law and the children there. Everyone was very impressed and we all enjoyed tea, lunch and snacks as well as playing in the playground and lovely river walks.

We turned up on a gloomy day so it wasn't busy. The service was good, cheerful and prompt. The coffee was really nice and the cakes were absolutely gorgeous. Good selection too. The carriages have a good shop and tourist information in and a nice space where kids (and excitable adults) can play with lego. All the staff are friendly and chatty as well. There are kids trails, lots of walks and things to see and do as you go round.Well worth a stop.

We found good lunch options for grown-ups (doorstep sandwiches with lovely choice of fillings, followed by bewildering choices of home made cake) and for picky toddlers (a picnic platter each). Washed down with good quality teas and coffees. Served by extremely helpful staff. Nice to be able to eat outside under a shady tree so that aforementioned toddlers could play nearby, enabling adults to sit for a bit longer. Beautiful safe surroundings in a wooded valley. Couldn't fault it. Will visit again!

Great for a visit whatever the weather. Station and carriages well preserved and a very interesting film which gives an overview of local history. Very nice little cafe with a good range of food. It was a rainy cold day, so the tomato and vegetable soup was very welcome as was the courgette and lime cake. Really enjoyed our visit.

This was a lovely place to have afternoon tea and cake. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. It was suitable for children to run around and they had some hands on things for them to do. You could walk in the nearby woods. There was also a small shop/craft making on a disused railway carriage.

We visited many years ago and thought we would revisit. A great stopover for coffee and a scone. Nice walks to stretch your legs.

Das Turismus Office ist in einem Zug untergebracht. Man bekommt ausführliche Informationen, Karten und Lesematerialien. Hinter dem Zug befindet sich ein sehr schöner Skulpturengarten.

Stopped for a coffee whilst on a walk to the Devil's Pulpit! The cafe is excellent - really nice and fresh home made cakes. It was a sunny day so we were able to sit outside at the many picnic tables. If you remember inter city trains from the 1980s make sure to go to the information centre in an old carriage. Great stop for families too as they have lots of climbing and places to run around!

Not a vast menu, but caters for vegetarians and vegans as well, which is always welcome. Food was all freshly cooked and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We only stopped for a cup of coffee at an establishment that calls itself a pub and coffee house! The cappuccino was small, served in a chipped enamel beaker and too strong. I assume it was just made by an automated machine. However to top it all we were charge £4 each. Probably the most expensive coffee I have had and one of the worst. Should not be allowed.

Had two of the specials, Crispy Chilli Beef and Spiced Crispy Lamb Kofta. Both meals were amazing. Flavourful and filling. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Will definitely be returning.
