This is a really nice hotel, the room was very clean . Breakfast was good with options for vegetarian and gluten free. The owner was very helpful . Close to the castle and merlins cave also local pubs and restaurants. We will definitely be going back. I recommend this hotel.

We arrived after a 6 hour journey from North Wales.. I had checked the face book page, but found the pictures were clearly taken years ago. Bar area was appalling and dirty, with shabby decor .we were taken upstairs through an equally dirty ad smelly hallway ,with a massive hole in a skirting board and sticky banister..to a bed room with no headboard, dirty stained carpet .and a strong smell of cigarettes and damp. So I went down stairs and asked if we we could change room.the owner took us to another room, which was much the same...dirty ,smelly and a filthy shower. Now being very tired and upset we decided to return the keys and ask for a refund. Which was given with no apology and he didn't seem bothered we were leaving. This left us stranded in Tintagel on a busy August evening with no where to stay.but frankly I would have rather have slept in my car than stay another 5 minutes longer . Avoid this hotel ! And I use the word Hotel lightly ,as its more of a doss house,! It's Shabby, dirty and even poor Henry the hoover that was just left on the add landing looked like he needed a good scrub!!

Booked a stay here for 4 days wish we hadnt, dreadful hotel, bathroom had mould in the shower, door didnt fit, toiletries were old, bedside tables were falling off the wall only being held on by the rawl plugs, the pillows were barely 2" thick, there was an oil stain on the wall by the bed, a damp patch on the wall by the window, the wardrobe was made of cheap cloth that was ripped and broken, the tea bags were open and musty, the net curtains were tied up because they had holes in them and the main curtains were stained. There was no food other than breakfast even though on booking . com it shows pictures of food and menus. The tables in the dining room were dirty and sticky and breakfast was a bit of a hit and miss to what was available.

Expected much more . Started well , with friendly owner telling us that everything was cooked to order and how good it was .Food thereafter arrived within minutes. Food , however, felt like standard pub fare , owner spent more time chatting than organising and we waited along time for dessert. Expensive and dry chocolate gateau followed eventually. Got overcharged and took two attempts before waiter finally understood.

Left feeling totally disappointed, went to Tintagel Arms Hotel for evening meal with friends. On arrival at 7pm shown to our table and made to feel very welcome, drinks ordered menus explained.First shock massive difference in price from there online sample menu, to the actual menu, menu did look good with good variety of food choices, waitress came back took our orders.First course eaten, second course brought out with reasonable time given between, plates cleared.9pm nobody has checked whether we would like another drink or a dessert, having finished our first drink with starter, so way over an hour and half, only then when I went to the bar and complained did anyone actually approached us to ask if we would like a pudding. To be referred to as yous or guys or mate by a waiter, I felt this totally disrespectful and to refer to the food you've just been served as "stuff" when asking if "your stuff is okay" just not acceptable. Having spent 2.5hrs there with 1 drink and no offer of dessert, was such a shame and the bill could have been significantly higher than it was.Staff were openly chatting to other customers, but we felt totally ignored and not valued in any way, would not go back

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst working our way down cornwall we wanted to visit the castle so was very handy as a short walk got us there in 10 minutes The room was very small hardly enough space to walk round the room looked like it had just been painted so was fresh and clean Pillows didn't have any protective covers which was a bit worrying , the mattress was lumpy and not very comfy unfortunately but bathroom was clean and a good shower. Backpackers hotel at the back so was a bit noisy at night and lots of coming and going so get a room at the front if you can The breakfast didn't offer and vegan or fruit but a good cooked breakfast which my partner enjoyed, Toast and cereal with orange juice also on offer.Staff were really lovely very welcoming and friendly hence why we didn't say about the mattress . We were in room 8

We found this place purely by accident, due to a unpleasant experience at another restaurant which didn't meet our needs. On arrival the staff were friendly, very knowledgeable on gluten free and vegan options. They went beyond the call of duty and provided additional options to cater for our coeliac disease and intolerances, as well as as my own vegan diet. We highly recommend this place to meet your needs for ceoliacs and vegans with a personal touch to your experience. We'll definitely come back again.

Lovely restaurant. Food was excellent, and good menu choices. Kept looking at all the dishes coming out and wondering if we had chose wisely (the burgers are enormous!) but our choices were spot on. Our food was presented beautifully (loved the outline of the dusted fork on my chocolate cake (which was to die for!). Owner and staff were friendly and attentive. Would thoroughly recommend if visiting Tintagel. (Also felt safe with Covid 19 restrictions).

We used this restaurant last year when we stayed in Tintagel. We were pleased to see that the same owners were in charge. We learned that the restaurant had received an award for good food and service and it easy to see why. They have specials every day which change so that you can go back time and time again and can find something for your taste without getting bored with the menu. The food is top quality as is the service. So much so that we ate here 3 times during our 9 night stay in Tintagel.Everything was cooked to perfection and the service top class our waiter even suggested a wine to compiment our food.We will be back next year.

It's just an ok place. Food wasn't very inspiring but the place was quiet and a bit grubby. The window sills could do with fewer flies and the doors could have the dirty hand marks cleaned. Luckily the young lady who served us was off to Uni because she certainly shouldn't be working behind the bar picking up my slice of lemon with her fingers, God knows where they could have been. Anyway, to make up for it, they under charged us so after the above, I wasn't going to tell them. Need a kick up the bum. Try the other places.

The restaurant equivalent of when you book with Ryanair and find extra charges for everything. Steak with peppercorn sauce (sauce extra £3) as a prime example. If you like spicy chicken wings feel free to order them and receive plain breaded chicken. Like gin and tonic ? Feel free to pay full price with the tonic price added on top. An absolute disaster from start to finish. At least the atmosphere will bore you to death, so that's something.

The menu was amazing-much more interesting than the usual pub fare-plenty of fish and served in an imaginative way. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. My husband was happy with his steak and there was enough choice, with daily specials, that we were happy to return the following night. We loved the selection of vegetables served with the main courses so the portions were decent and the cheese plate was great.Perhaps the decor could do with a revamp to match the food.

I popped in here for a bite to eat after exploring the castle. I wasn't quite ready to eat yet and wanted to relax after a busy day. The girl serving behind the bar was really welcoming and friendly and left me to my drink and menu perusal before coming to take my order. There was only myself and a few people in - it's the end of the summer in the UK and it was midweek, but you were made to feel very welcome. I opted for garlic butter prawns and a cheese board, which isn't your usual main meal, but picky bits were perfect and I made SUCH a good choice! The food is more than just a pub menu, it's exquisite and made with care, the prawns were well cooked, nicely flavoured with garlic and the cheese board was just perfectly sized with enough cheese, crackers and chutney. I sipped my cider and read my book. Thanks for a nice ending to a lovely day!

The waitress was really friendly and told us that the fish was caught daily and so differed each day e.g. if you wanted lobster, they could ask the fishermen to try for some for the next day. The desserts were equally tasty, mine being tarte du citreon and my husband's being syrup sponge. The service and food were so good we returned Sunday and enjoyed roast beef Sunday lunch and what a meal it was - all for £14.99 for rwo courses. My husband asked for the syrup sponge and despite it not being on the menu, the chef obliged and cooked him some. That's what you call service!

Well what can I say... it was absolutely delicious and stopped me from eating anywhere else for my entire stay. I think the best thing about this place is the food is FRESH and cooked to order on the day. This makes for a largely different menu choice each day but also means that if you come in to dine later in the evening prepare to be disappointed if your chosen dish has sold out. So refreshing to be in a restaurant that values the basics of locally sourced freshly cooked to order food. Highly recommended if you're in Tintagel.

It was just before Halloween and there was a party on the coming Saturday, so the bar was dressed up appropriately - Victorian Gothic.

Staff were very accommodating to dietary requirements and courteous - a big thumbs up. Unfortunately the food was not good. Pasta slightly overcooked and dripping in oil. Chips were hard to finish and fish batter was poor. It felt like the chef hadn't eaten out in the last twenty years. The decor was a little creepy. A lot of money for a sub-par dining experience.

Arrived for a 1 night stay to visit Tintagel. On arriival we were greeted with a jardinaire full of dead flowers.(see photo) Not a good impression! The room was a very big disappointment, small, untidy unclean & dingy! The bed was uncomfortable too with the mattress being so thin you could feel the springs!

Stayed for one night here at the weekend, with my daughter. There is the most awful smell in the corridors and stairs, a cross between damp and fried bread! Arrived to be told that a band was on that evening until midnight! We were in room 11, directly over the bar. The shower was cramped and we could not get a comfortable temperature, it was either freezing or boiling hot. The wall paper / plaster was peeling off the walls, which would confirm the damp. The sink which is situated in the bedroom and not in the bathroom, has a glass shelf directly above the sink, so you can't clean teeth or wash without banging your head on it. We couldn't face the breakfast as the smell was overwhelming! On check out, we couldn't find a member of staff, so had to just leave the key, the room had been prepaid.

Came here for lunch. We were greeted by a friendly cook and she was friendly and attentive. We decided to go for some toasties and they were pretty average, more on the side of disappoint, but we were all hungry so ate them. Filling was pretty bare and very over cooked. I reckon I would come again but avoid the toasties.

We decided to try this place after seeing they sold fresh lobster which we had never tried. It was a jazz evening so the menu was slightly different so had to ask a few questions. The waitress was new so terrified and slightly anxious. The food was ok but seemed a long time before any arrived although we appreciate it was cooked from fresh. Overall not a bad dining experience and the new waitress was lovely and polite.

Mischung zwischen Restaurant und Pub mit teils kitschiger Einrichtung. Unangenehmer Geruch nach altem Gebäude sowie Frittierfett und Fisch reduziert den Appetit leider deutlich.

I ordered a lasagna for it to come out charcoal black with absolutely no edible parts. When told about it the waitress didn't even apologise and told us to pick something else. I had to sit there without any food while everybody else at the table ate. Then after a 20 minute wait, a plate of pasta came out, it was chewy and clearly not cooked enough. Then the waitress again didn't apologise and took it away, then to sit there for another 10 minutes with no communication. A manager eventually came out and had the cheek to ask me if I wanted a pizza from there. He also claimed that it's okay for the waitress to not say sorry because she was only 16 which is ridiculous. An hour and a half after ordering my first meal I decided to go over the road to the King Arthur Arms and had an amazing pizza and stayed there for a few hours and had a great time. Avoid Tintagel Arms and go to the King Arthur Arms.

My daughter and I visited the bar twice as they had entertainment on two evenings. My daughter ordered a Malibu and cola, which they didn't have stocked, so the amazing Barman went out and bought a bottle from somewhere! Excellent service. The decor is lovely and different from the usual pub types. We had a great time both evenings and would definitely recommend.

The atmosphere was nice but unusual, with red-painted walls, velvet curtains, and gold-painted wood trim. The bartender struggled a bit on finding where the gins were on the shelf behind her, and seemed a bit new--though very friendly and gracious. We'd happily picked this restaurant from the others in town based on the outside posted menu; unfortunately, about half the actual menu was no longer available. The server explained that the outside menu (which had been up all day) simply hadn't been changed. So, both of the items I planned to order were not on the current menu. The (apparently, only) server was gracious and competent and nice but seemed overwhelmed as the room filled up. As to the food, the starter olives and bread were ok--the bread appeared stale (it was toasted) and the portion size stingy compared to the pool of olive oil and vinegar, while the olive portion was huge. The prawn starter was a bit oily, but tasty, and the crispy chili beef was delicious but not crispy. The pork chop was cooked poorly--the skin needs to be seared until it is blistery and golden, which makes it edible, and allows the soft layer of fat under it to be rendered. My skin was tough and rubbery, and the layer of fat under it completely white and unrendered. The rest of the meat was fine, but what a waste of a beautiful chop that could have been outstanding. The sausage and mash were also disappointing. The sausage were ok, but the mash was listed as mustard, but had no flavor of mustard and also lacked any seasoning. Finally, because the poor server was overwhelmed, it took almost 30 minutes after we finished eating to get our check, and we finally just went to the bar to pay--where a new bartender was unable to read the receipt--it seemed like it might have been his first day behind the bar. This was all a bit like a troop of actors thought to take over a restaurant and made a good initial show at it, but couldn't quite keep up with peak demand.

Like dining in the Antiques Roadshow!Overwhelming to say the least. Food was Ok. Took a long time seeing there were only a few diners. Fancy presentation for mediocre food. Highly overpriced.

This seems to be a friendly pub, and popular with the locals. There was an incredibly good band playing on the night we were there, the lead singer was amazing. I think they were called 'The Pictures.' - We dined in the restaurant part of the pub, and though the service was very good, sadly I can't say the same for the food. I would return to have a drink and listen to a band, but definitely wouldn't eat there again.

I cannot emphasize enough how good the service was here! We were lucky enough to have three excellent meals out in cornwall and this was our favourite night. The waiter catered to our every need in a very professional and friendly manner, even giving us local advice. We were recommended here by several people as they have recently acquired a new chef with good reputation. We had starters and mains - all spot on. A huge dish of olives with a delicious olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce, roasted ox tail for starter to share =) For main I had a stone baked pizza with a nice thin crispy base and got to chose all my own toppings. My partner had paella which was her fav dish of the trip! All in all a great meal - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

We chanced upon this cosy, historic pub while out walking along the Saint's Trail from Perranporth to Cocks on Thursday, 5th December. We initially popped in for lunch - sandwiches, dripping cooked chips plus drinks - and ended up returning that evening for fish and chips, and again on Sunday lunchtime for the Sunday roast. We were that impressed!!!! The haddock and chips was sublime, as was the roast pork, which came with all the trimmings plus the excellent cauliflower cheese as an extra. The desserts of sour cherry roulade and sticky toffee pudding were also excellent. Finally, Matt clearly knows how to keep beer as both the London Pride and Landlord were perfect. As others have recently commented, the new landlords, Matt and Diane, are a class act and we found them very friendly, accommodating and professional. They have a lot of experience from previous ventures and we wish them well at the Bolingey Inn - we will certainly return there, next time we are on holiday in the area and will happily recommend it to others.
