Great food and karekare is great... Meat is soft and well cooked, creamy sauce and plenty of green veggies in it. Veg Lumpia is nice... And bixol express.. I like coconut sauce alot. We had the buffet today and we're not disappointed. Dessert I ahd is halo halo and it's delicious. The place is clean and spacious... And staff are accommodating. Thank you for ur service.

First time trying Filipino food and it’s well worth a try. Definitely a hidden gem in Romford, they offer some authentic Filipino cuisines. Their chicken nachos is a must order, absolutely delicious! Only negative points I have to say is customer service, as waiter wasn’t sure on how to explain certain dishes to us. Customer toilet was out of order and not in usable condition as there was some sort of water leak. Other than that this place is a family run authentic Filipino restaurant which is definitely worth a try.

Restaurant Review: A Disappointing Experience with High Hopes We had high hopes for this restaurant, especially given the glowing reviews, but unfortunately, our experience left a bad taste in our mouths—literally and figuratively. From the moment we tried to find the place, things were off. Despite the high ratings, it’s surprisingly hard to locate, and clearer instructions from their website or reviews would’ve saved a lot of hassle. After calling multiple times with no answer, we finally got through. For future reference, it’s within the Quadrant Arcade, tucked between Greggs and some half-shut doors. You need to call to get in, which seems unnecessarily complicated. Once inside, the atmosphere was bleak. A few other customers were present, but their faces said it all—disappointment and frustration. One couple even gave up trying to find the place and left. Honestly, at that point, we wished we had done the same. The lack of music for the first 20 minutes added to the awkward silence, and even when they finally turned something on, two tables had already left with barely touched plates of food. Service was slow and disorganized. The waitress, though polite, seemed overwhelmed by just five tables and wasn’t attentive. The chef, who appeared to be the owner, had to direct her at every step, which was shocking to witness. Despite being a Friday night, the restaurant wasn’t busy, so there was no excuse for the slow and poor service. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. We spent about £60 on two starters, three mains, and two drinks, but none of the dishes stood out, especially considering the high praise the restaurant has received online. It makes you wonder if influencers get special treatment because our food certainly wasn’t worth the hype. Even a basic café like Sunrise Café in Romford serves better food, and that’s saying something. The restaurant itself is cramped, no bigger than a coffee shop, and to top it off, the toilet was out of order. For such a small venue, this felt like a major oversight. Overall, we were left deeply disappointed, especially as this was meant to be a celebration of our engagement anniversary. With a rating of 3.5/10, I would suggest avoiding this place and trying Sunrise cafe or Donia instead. Hopefully, they can improve, but for now, I wouldn't recommend it.

Food was standard, my friends found them tasty, isaw, Kawali Silog, humba Silog, pinakbet. Unfortunately, the garlic honey chicken wasn't as tasty as I'd like. They were very generous with honey and I could hardly taste the garlic. The spring rolls could be so much better, there was some weird sour taste to it Halo halo was ok. Service was slow! And service staff didn't know what was a available in the kitchen and we had to change our order twice. It was tricky to find the place and we had to contact the restaurant for guidance.

Team, I need to address some concerns about the meal I received. The food was very salty and watery, the rice was soft and saggy, and the noodles lacked extra toppings. Furthermore, the table was wet, the chair was dirty with dried food, and we were lacking napkins. Lastly, the toilet was dirty. These issues need to be addressed promptly. Thank you.

Just had the buffet here. Service was very slow. The young guy who sat us down cleaned our table and said he would be back in a minute. While we were sitting down waiting for him to return to take our order for drinks, etc. He cleaned the table next to us and sat down a group of 9. We were still waiting for him. Group of 9 got their plates and already started eating. It was only because the older gentleman behind the counter (guessing the owner) could see I was not happy and sent a young girl who served us instead (10/10 for her) Very let down, not impressed at all. Vegetable spring rolls (Lumpia) only had 1 as there only came out 6 at a time, but only came out every so often. The time we were there only 2 lots came out by the 2nd lot I had enough of the place and stopped eating. The fried chicken 1st lot was stone cold, and the 2nd lot was warm. The lechon was cold and the lechon skin which I love was like rubber. I'm sorry to say I will not come back and will wait till I go back to the Philippines to eat filipino food again.

Went here on Saturday afternoon, they were busy during that time and they have a big reservation. But their staff was super nice to accommodate the 3 of us as they have a spare single table. Thank goodness as we came all the way from SE London we didn’t know that it is best to reserve. Later on they transferred us to a bigger table so that we wont be all cramped with all our order. There staff were very sensitive about that which we really appreciate. And they made sure that our foods doesn’t contain Crab or Lobster as my daughter is allergic with it. We ordered Chicken Isaw (I loved this the most) Tokwat Baboy Pancit with lechon kawali Sinigang na baboy Sisig Turon All of them tasted amazing and will definitely go back to try the others.

We travelled for almost 2 hours to visit this place for the first time but we were disappointed. Firstly, there were only 2 young waiters and 2 kitchen staff earlier today when we visited so waiting time for the food to be served took a while. Secondly, the food did not meet our expectations, starting with lechon belly not being available, ginabot is chewy, not crunchy and lacks flavor. I also ordered bicol express but there was too much coconut milk that overwhelmed the dish so I maybe ate just a quarter of the serving. Although, the isaw taste 👍👍👍 and the ambiance is okay.

Very limited options, not a good experience for a Saturday lunch. The nice young man took our orders, came back after 20 mins to tell no tapsilog or any beef items available in the kitchen which is one of our orders, no escabeche or fish/ seafood options as well. They only have chicken and pork. The noodles was well presented but salty, halo halo was well presented but no banana which is one of the signature ingredients. Chicken was good though. It took them 40 mins to serve the chicken and considering there were only few 4 adult customers that time.

The restaurant had terrible time efficiency and service. The food took more than 30 minutes to be served, and no one cleaned the table for over 10 minutes after the previous client left. Additionally, they made a mistake with our order. We requested an upgrade or a switch from Jasmine rice to bagoong rice, but they ended up serving 2 portions of Jasmine rice and only 2 portions of bagoong rice. It was a truly time-wasting experience on our weekend.

Upon entering, guests are welcomed by affable servers and an ambiance reminiscent of the bustling streets of the Philippines. This synergy between the welcoming staff and the contemporary industrial interior design creates a lively atmosphere suitable for family gatherings or casual evenings with friends. The service staff at Tilaw display amicable professionalism, ready to assist diners in navigating the extensive menu. It is worth noting that during peak hours, service can be somewhat sluggish, with diners occasionally waiting for approximately 30-40 minutes for their orders. Additionally, diners might encounter deviations from the listed menu ingredients, potentially causing confusion, although staff do kindly inform customers of any unavailable menu items. Categorised as a 'restobar,' Tilaw offers an array of beverage options, including beers and cocktails. However, it's not uncommon for certain selections, particularly cocktails, to be unavailable. The pricing of their mango juice appears disproportionate, as it appears to consist of a less expensive, pre-packaged 'Rubicon Still Mango' variety. Commencing our culinary exploration with the appetizers, or 'Pulutan,' I highly recommend the Chicken Skin Nachos, featuring fried chicken skin served with a nacho-style sauce, the BBQ Pork Isaw comprised of pork intestine, Sinigang Fries dusted with Sinigang mix, and the Pork Spring Rolls known as 'Shanghai.' The 'Ginabot,' consisting of deep-fried ruffle fat, may not be to everyone's liking, as its fattiness outweighs its crunchiness. Perhaps influenced by busy service periods, which occasionally result in reduced portion sizes. Unfortunately, Tilaw did not maintain the same culinary excellence in their main courses. The Crispy Bicol Express, featuring deep-fried pork belly with a spicy and creamy coconut milk and shrimp paste sauce, impressed with its perfectly cooked pork but faltered with a subpar, overly spicy sauce. Similarly, the Chicken Adobo, Chicken BBQ, and Honey Garlic Chicken did not meet expectations due to lacklustre sauce flavours or marination processes. The Sizzling Lechon Sisig, consisting of chopped crispy pork with onions and chili, erred on the side of excessive spiciness, underscoring the importance of inquiring about preferred spice levels. Additionally, attention to rice-frying techniques is advisable, as frying freshly cooked rice directly from the cooker is less than ideal. However, amidst these culinary disappointments, there were notable exceptions. The Sizzling Escabeche, a Filipino-style pan-fried sweet and sour fish, showcased impeccably cooked fish and a sauce bursting with flavour. The Lomi, a Filipino noodle soup with egg and pork cracklings, offered comfort and warmth, making it an ideal choice for a chilly day. Both dishes are best enjoyed when shared with family and friends. To conclude our dining experience, we indulged in the Turon, a deep-fried plantain served with drizzled caramel and ube ice cream, and the Ube flan, a delectable custard and purple yam cake paired with ube ice cream. The Turon proved to be a delightful and refreshing treat, boasting a harmonious blend of textures and flavours, complemented by the accompanying ice cream. This delightful experience mirrored that of the Ube flan, which rounded out our meal with its distinct and satisfying flavours. In summation, Tilaw endeavors to offer an authentic Filipino dining experience, characterised by flavourful dishes and a welcoming ambiance. While areas for improvement include service speed, culinary techniques, and flavour consistency, the restaurant's commitment to preserving the essence of Filipino cuisine remains evident. If you seek a genuine taste of the Philippines, complete with fresh and authentic dishes in the heart of East London, Tilaw represents a compelling choice that is sure to leave your palate yearning for more, all within a vibrant and exuberant setting.

Absolutely delicious food, some of the best in Romford for sure. The beef bone marrow, chicken skin nachos and spicy pork belly are incredibly delicious. Why go to fast food chains when you have good food at good prices like this on your doorstop?

So excited to find this place! Authentic filipino food served with a smile. Located inside the quadrant mall it's a little hidden away but the staff are welcoming, the food delicious and the portion sizes fair. Hoping that as many people visit as soon as possible!

We had a great time! We came on a Saturday night, place was packed! There was live music and of course good food. Staff have been so kind and friendly too! So grateful for accomodating us, we will definitely book before our next visit. PS. It was our first time and you have to be in touch with them if you come later in the evening because the main arcade entrance is shut and they will come to let you in.

5 stars for the Friendly accomodating staff. 4 stars for the Food for the Sizzling Bangus Sisig taste like Dinaing na bangus. Bulalo Sisig needs improvement, Lechon kawali is good but they can make it better. Fried rice too oily. However, I would suggest that the kitchen pay more attention to the cooking techniques and seasoning to elevate the flavor of the dishes. Overall, I believe that with some tweaks to the recipes and cooking methods, the restaurant has the potential to improve their food and become a top contender in the area.

The staff are really friendly. Food tastes good but beef was a bit too chewy for me. Music is a bit loud but I didn't mind as I liked the songs they played. Rice portions are small. I will try the pork dishes next time I will go.

Visited on a Friday night after discovering this place by accident while walking around Romford market. The chicken gizzard starter was a bit too chewy but the sauce was really tasty, the lechon sisig had good flavours. Franco was really friendly, and we enjoyed the restaurant vibes. It's great to see South East Asian food popping up in Romford! We'll be back to try more dishes!!

Came here for some late lunch and it was pretty busy - which is normally a good sign. We ordered Kare-Kare, Lechon Sisig, Ensaladang Talong and rice. The food was decent and the meats were a good portion. It tasted nice and pretty authentic. Cons I would say are: The waiting time to be seated and time for the food to be served took a while, though we were informed in the beginning. Moreover something I only noticed once we left was our Kare-Kare was missing the Pak Choi and the Aubergine (talong) for £9 was incredibly small, it was literally one small aubergine and sadly did not taste grilled. I wouldn’t recommend this dish at all! Saw some desserts being served and they looked good, but did not try them out. It was good overall.

Great food, great vibes. I would recommend the Kare Kare, it was delicious. The bbq gizzard was a bit too chewy for my liking but everything else was so good! Only downside was waiting times for food but other than that it was great. Wish they had the calamansi juice in stock but I would definitely come back. 10/10

Staffs was very friendly and welcoming. We had 2 beef dishes and one rice. I really like the taste unfortunately beef was a bit chewy for me I will try the pork next time as it's a more tender meat Nice taste in music but a bit loud. All in all a good experience.

The special fried rice here is exceptional - definitely one of the best I've tried and the main reason I'd return. The portions are generous across all dishes, which adds great value. The prawn tempura, while decent, wasn't the crispy style I prefer, and the seasoning could have been better. The salt and pepper chicken was average - nothing special but not bad either. Would recommend for the fried rice alone, which is worth the visit. I'll definitely order from them again, though I'll probably stick to their rice dishes.
