Tides reach chip shop in Waveney

Had an icecream stop on a sunny October day (they do exist) service was friendly and welcoming and I particularly enjoyed the Mega Icecream. All was good value too

I looked this up as we approached the prom’. It looks like the beach / coffee shop and fish shop are now run by separate people. Fish and chips was quality, well prepared food. Tea prepared with a cheery Smile by young female staff - a credit to the area. We were looking for good Fish & Chips to sit and eat on the Prom’ and that’s what we got. Thank you.

Stopped off on the off-chance and had the best chips I've had in a very long time! Brilliant service as well, really polite. Even offered to make me a fresh portion after I had to run off to take my son to the toilet. Excellent.

Stopped for some doughnuts as the smell was lovely . They were very good and worth the heartburn after 😂.

Lovely place to eat along the seafront. Fish and chips were tasty. Only one criticism, the outside tables could have been wiped down regularly, we were there for an hour and a half and didnt see any wiping down, hand gel was available.

Visited lowestoft for to 3 nights went to this fish & chip,cafe gift shop. Best tasting fish and chips and great value . Arron served us on both occasions with a nice young lad . Friendly helpful best customer service ever . Must mention the ice cream stand the staff are all so helpful too. Icecream waffles service and value definitely the best ever place in Lowestoft . Can't wait to return in 8 weeks October

Cod - couldn't eat it. Mushy, off colour, and tasteless, well the 3 bites I had were! Chips - skinny, bitty, taste free. Being in a 'fishing' town, you'd expect a whole lot more from an establishment that sits right on the beach front. Avoid at all costs (costs - that's another point!) Sorry folks but you gotta have a reboot I think.

This place should be closed down. Poor hygiene, nonexistent COVID prep, the worst overcooked fish “fresh cooked”? All I can say is batter red and battered again.the chips well god knows how many times they’d been re fried and yes two battered sausages ordered , ended up with one cut in half. You should be ashamed and condemned

Three years ago best ever fish and chips However change of staff/ management and now the food is disgusting . I asked for cod and chips and 2 sausages and chips. The fish ( wouldn’t think it was cod to look or taste) was yellow I wasn’t sure if it had absorbed the oil so much but when discussing it with a friend they believed it was part frozen fish. Either way it was so bad I disposed of it. The sausage with no batter had a tough skin the battered sausage was passable and the chips were greasy . At least having one un battered and one battered they didn’t attempt like last year to cut a jumbo in half and charge you for 2! There were no Covid precautions visible I wore a mask to go into the fish shop but others weren’t . Had we not driven away with our food I would have taken it back however We will certainly never use this place again.

After waiting nearly 20 minutes, we were presented with s**t. The fish was almost cremated, chips greasy. They also had the audacity to cut the battered sausage in half and charge us twice for the privilege. Disappointed to say the least. They have no Covid in place, the establishment was grotty and not at all welcoming. Will never go back. Avoid at all costs. Dreadful. Should actually be shut down. Would give it NO stars or if possible a minus rating, but cannot do that.

No idea what this place was like as it was shut. At lunchtime. Ended up in another Chippy down the road which was terrible. Wish we’d never visited Lowestoft.

Ordered five portions of fish and chips to eat outside. Then waited nearly 25 minutes. Chips were small and poor portion sizes. Fish very tasty though. Needs a good tidy up inside and more organisation to make the ordering, cooking and delivery process more efficient.

So very very impressed with this place! Popped in for some doughnuts on way to beach and they was really good. Went back later on for lunch and had an all day breakfast, and they continued to impress, the breakfast was delicious. They even do choc spread sarnies, which is all my son eats! Definitely will be returning

Popped in on the off chance they could do gluten free and they said all their chips are gluten free but in any case they cooked some separately and we all enjoyed some yummy chips! Shame no sausages or other extras but to be honest what we’d had was lovely so I’m happy to give a good review. Sometimes it’s the staff that make the experience good rather than a huge range of gluten free choice and in this case the helpful attitude made the visit worthwhile.

Great ice cream and value for money. We got a waffle with soft ice cream, sauce and topping for £1.50. That is incredible value for money by the seaside. Service was very friendly. Will definitely visit again.

Wasn't expecting much from this place. It's right on the seafront and I assumed it would be traditional touristy fast food. How wrong could I be! This was quite simply the BEST BATTERED FISH I have ever had, without exception, just amazing. The batter was as light as air, the fish was so white and fresh I have never experienced anything like it. The portion I was given was just standard cod and chips but it was huge. I'm not a big eater but had no problem polishing that off I can tell you. Stunning. You have to be prepared to wait a bit as they cook everything fresh, but Sooo worth the wait. This is my new go to place for a snack in loverly Lowerstoft.

I recently stopped here for lunch whilst having a walk along the sea front. I,VE read all the reviews since being there and I have to say I enjoyed the fish n chips. Didn't find it too greasy. Mushy peas were ok. Plastic knife n fork. Comes in a box. Young lad seemed OK, not particularly friendly though, and the older lady in there wasn't that friendly either. They. Could definitely work on their being friendly to customer skills.

This was the worst fish and chips we have had for years. It was very greasy and the batter had burst open on both pieces of fish which was slimy and tasted stale. It was served in a cardboard box with small flimsy plastic knives and forks, ketchup costs extra and if you want a drink they don't supply cups. A place to be avoided!!

Took my children there today for chips. Absolutely disgusting, took ages for them to “cook”, when we did eventually get them they were so greasy it was unbelievable and had a cheesy taste . They were also hard in the middle. Customer service was poor, very slow and both the lady frying and the young man serving ignored the fact that I was standing at the counter waiting to order for quite sometime. The lady frying was also eating chicken nuggets as she was cooking, not very hygienic!! Avoid this place at ALL costs!

Hopes weren't high from the outset, but the location right by the prom was good so we gave it a go. The chips were a bit soggy but the fish was worse. Bland, tasteless and greasy, one to avoid.

Wait ages to be served even tho there was no one else in there. Rude customer service and the old woman just look at you like s###. Whiles the potatoe chopper was being used flys landing all over the chip basket and the young worker trys to hide it by standing there. Never again.

Had a huge, dense Mr Whippy with a flake for only £1.30 (the medium size). Best value cone I’ve had in ages. They also do 6 doughnuts for £2. If you’re going to do junk fairground/seaside food, do it here.

Lovely fish and chips cooked while you wait. Large portions,too much for me to finish. Seats outside so you can eat overlooking the sea.

Went here with family was quite a wait for food the fish was so greasy and had loads of bones the chips were weirdly shaped, curry sauce was lumpy and full of unmixed powder. Everything I previously asked for they didn’t do. Hardly any drinks in fridge. Such a shame.

Weird place. No idea as to whether table service provided or not. Service with a snarl and fish and chips average to say the least. No wonder sea gulls are so fat

Had fish and chips here today, the fish tasted awful and smelt worse could not eat it. Took it back in and was told it's the same as all the other fish, took it off me and threw it in the bin no offer of refund or money back, infact not even a sorry. If I don't get a upset stomach I will be lucky. AVOID this place. will never go there again.

It said cooked when you order so seemed like the best choice of F&C; place. Well it was cooked whilst I waited but!

In fish and chip shop today thought the fish was nice until I found bones nearly choked brought it back to the people behind the counter a old lady and the young boy told them about it they turned away and never said A word or anything when I said there is something wrong with it I nearly choked on the bones what do you want us to do about it and apology would’ve been nice but instead she told me to F off I think this place should be avoided as if it was a child It would’ve been a different outcome with no remorse not even a sorry this is a death waiting to happen I would not recommend so for your own safety keep away there’s plenty more fish and chip shops with decent staff and great food thank you for reading

Visit them last weekend with children I saw 4stars on food rating so thought it’s good place but after while realised that oil smell like was changed maybe last season when I tried chips binned don’t go over there specially when you got small kids

So three days after the last bad review, we have had the same experience (how I wish I’d read the reviews before and saved a lot of money). Clearly nothing has changed. 6 portions of food in the bin as the chips tasted rancid and over an hour later we still can’t get rid of the taste. Our conclusion is that the oil has very much gone off..The fish tasted ok but we watched that being cooked in a separate fryer to the chips. The owners weren’t terribly receptive either. We went back to complain and just got a fairly insincere sorry but no offers of refund. When we went back the whole place stank of the bad taste...I’d noticed it smelt funny beforehand but had just assumed it was something outside.

Went there for takeaway. First they messed up the order, then when served the chips had a bad smell as if the vinegar was off? Never experienced this before. Fish was nice though which makes us think it was not the oil. My wife took the chips back to the restaurant and they refunded the money which was why I upgraded from terrible to poor. Avoid would be my recommendation.

What you see on menu is what you get . Lovely fish and chips . Cooked to order . Sit outside and eat overlooking beach . Very reasonably priced and tables were kept clean . Just a plain cafe but very popular .

Having really enjoyed the fish and chips here last summer, we were determined to eat here again on our next visit, and it did not disappoint. They were every bit as scrumptious as the last time. I had scampi, really good flavour, perfectly cooked. Divine, I wish this was my local!

Lovely place to stop along the promenade for a drink. Friendly staff and great coffee at very good price.

Had lunch here on a day out to the beach and was by far the best fish and chips I have ever had. Surprisingly better than Aldeburgh! Freshly cooked to order, piping hot, great taste and crispy batter, not greasy. Will definitely lunch here again when we visit again. Highly recommend.

After a very disappointing fish n chip experience earlier in the week on Gt Yarmouth we ventured a little further in search of better.

Las mareas llegar pescado y patatas fritas tiene un ambiente increíblemente acogedor con personal que siempre son amables y los perros familia feliz que hacen el lugar sentirse como en casa. No sólo te hace sentir tan cómodo estar allí, pero la comida es increíble y todo fresco a la orden! No puedo pensar en un mejor lugar para comer junto al mar lowestoft y recomiendo sin duda revisando el pescado y patatas fritas que mece las Mareas llegar tiene para ofrecer.

Well what can I say, Fish is delightful, chips are gorgeous, staff are extremely kind and friendly. Defiantly the best in the local area and potentially the country! Can't Fault it!

Fuimos a su sentarse en el restaurante hoy. Comida servida en un horrible caja de cartón con un cuchillo de madera y horquillas. El servicio era pobre. La chica y chico sirve estaban más interesados en un teléfono móvil que sirve a los clientes. Dos tés servían en vasos de papel y no eran Zohar eran bebibles. Peor comida jamás.

Las mejores patatas fritas Iv probado en mucho tiempo! Recién cocinado por dos gente encantadora y amable! A mi hijo le encantó tanto, que regresar para una segunda visita de camino a casa. Situado al lado de un parque y con monedas coches puede mantener a los niños entretenidos mientras disfruta de su almuerzo. Recomiendo encarecidamente! ! ! !

Visited here on a short break to the Suffolk coast. First impressions were reasonable, venue looked welcoming, clean and fairly busy. However overall experience wasn't great.My young son has a dairy allergy after suffering meningitis as a baby and I explained to the lady behind the counter about this and enquired as to whether their sausages contained any dairy (as some sausages do and any dairy consumption can make him very ill). Her attitude left a bit to be desired and she seemed to be put out about having to even check this out. Begrudgingly she checked and confirmed that they might have dairy in, so we ordered him a small portion of chips. Unbelievably the portion of chips was served with scraps/batter in after I had made it clear about the dairy allergy. I had to return for a refund and there wasn't really much of an apology. Rather disappointing that a food establishment has such an ignorance and bad attitude about food allergies since this should be a fairly basic requirement these days. It's one thing to be fairly ignorant about this sort of thing, but far worse to exhibit a bad attitude when an enquiry is made.Was overcharged as well to add insult to injury.The food was fine, just a shame about the service.

To start the decor is really fresh and the welcome from the proprietors excellent, really good food and excellent ambience. We will definitely visit again when we are in Lowestoft.

I and my husband had a fish and chips there and it was lovely, fresh cooked, definitely best fish and chip I have ever had.

I came into this fish & chip shop with my friends last week and I can honestly say that I have never had fish & chips that good anywhere else! while waiting for my meal I got chatting to the lovely couple who run the place, they were an absolute delight to speak to, they couldn't have been more friendly!a proper old fashioned English chippy at its best, a must try for anyone in the area.

The food was grate never tasted batter quite like it It is cooked to order always hot. A friendly welcoming couple run the shop. My wife and I pass three Fish and Chip shops to get to Tides reach which we visit on a regular basis.

First of all a bit of background. I was born in Lowestoft 55 years ago, so I have eaten my fair share of fish and chips in Town as well as on the promenade. Fish is cooked to order here and whilst waiting for mine I began to worry how much excess batter was being dumped by other customers. I was right to worry. The fish was devoid of batter at the tail and caked in the stuff at the other end. I have to agree with another customer about luke warm food. Surprising really as food cooked to order, but maybe the excess batter made it so. Best fish and chips? Not even close!

Must disagree with the previous reviewer. I visit Tides reach on a regular basis and have ALWAYS had excellent food. The 10 minute wait is expected as they cook everything to order so it's IMPOSSIBLE to have Luke warm food!!!The staff are really helpful and the shop is immaculate. The best Fish and chip shop in LOWESTOFT BY FAR.

I moved to Lowestoft a year ago....my little Hawaii....I love it here. Our first dining experience was on moving day where we opted for fish and chips by the sea. The fish was amazing and this place very quickly became one of our favourites......Sadly when we arrived at our little summer chippy this season....I was rather unhappy about the quality of the products I purchased.....a 10 minute wait produced luke warm and brittle battered sausages and chips that were on the crispy side with very little fluffy potato in the middle.....We were bitterly disappointed. Not one to cast this place aside as I do love the location and the mini refurb on the patio area looks great...I feel that this place just needs a little time to come into its own once again. Over the winter The Trawlerman chippy does us proud....For the summer my beloved Tides Reach is simply in need of some organisation and a little more pride in the product that is being sold.......

Run by a lovely couple, they make beautiful testing food by the sea nice seating area. Dogs welcome too. The cafe next to here does a lovely cup of tea. Can't wait until my next wee run to Lowestoft. I have stomache issues with chippie food but not this one a really great treat.

Ordered 2 x cod and chips with mushy peas. It was cooked to order and arrived promptly. Chips were the best I'd eaten in ages and the fish was boneless and skinless with a fantastic crispy batter no waste. We ate outside and the table was spotless. The proprietor came to ask if we were enjoying our meal and told us that he is the third generation of his family in the fish and chip business. We will return!

As well as super food the owner and his lady restored my faith in human nature. Their helpfulness was absolutely amazing,at last real customer service if they could bottle it they would make a fortune.

My girlfriend and I came here on a nice Sunday afternoon after being left disappointed next door at Aphrodite. Tides Reach is in a different league not only compared with their neighbours, but pretty much all fish and chip shops we've been to. I ordered off the special board - beer battered prawn skewers and salad with homemade lemon mayonnaise, my girlfriend ordered battered sausage, chips and we shared a haddock, mozzarella and spring onion fish cake with mushy peas. It all was absolutely amazing. The batter was cooked to perfection, their chips are brilliant and everything was far nicer than a regular fish and chip shop. The owners are really friendly and talkative, their passion for what they do shows in their work and they're rightly proud of what they do. They also explain what goes into the food they serve and where their influence for their specials come from. There's an amazing sea view and it's especially enjoyed whilst having an ice cream there for dessert!I couldn't recommend this place enough, the photos don't give it justice. We will definitely return here and warn people away from Aphrodite next door. Oh and notice that Tides Reach has a 5* food hygiene rating (unlike their neighbours!)

With a fishing heritage, my family rate themselves as very discerning fish and chip eaters, so we were delighted to discover the Tide's Reach. The fish was freshly cooked to order and dipped in breadcrumbs before frying, creating a lovely crispy & light finish to the batter. this is the first time I've been served a lemon wedge in a fish & chip take-away - and a knife & fork - both really nice touches. We look forward to visiting again next time we are in town.

Stopped here for lunch today after seeing the Hygiene Rating 5. The place was clean enough but it was clear when we got our food that their fryers are overdue for a cleanout. Fish and chips were covered in little black bits and there was a slightly burnt taste about them. A pity because the actual fish inside the batter was cooked to perfection.

On a dreary summer day we saw this little gem from the road, and are we glad we did!Lovely couple come up from Devon after years in the fish and chip industry - Devon's loss is Lowestoft's gain! Will definitely visit again and try the homemade fish cakes next time. Yum!

We are here last week during our weeks holiday. The building looked really nice so we stopped off for lunch. The new owners had only been there a week I believe. I had cod chips and mushy peas, they were perfect, great batter and awesome chips. I have to say one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Keep up the good work.

After spending time on the beach with the wife, we decided to browse the seafront in search of food. Within a couple of minutes, we chanced across Tides Reach, which seemed to be half tea room, and half fish & chip shop (next door to each other). Having seen the quality of the fish / fish batter being eaten by those outside, as well as the smell, we went in, each ordering cod & chips (the battered fish choice was cod, plaice or haddock). The cod was fresh and delicious, with a beautiful light batter, and the chips were tasty too. A good fish and chips should need no complimentary sauce, and this fish and chips did not need any. Recommended food at a good price for a day at the seaside.
