We weren't made very welcome from the get go. As soon as we sat down to order, I was informed I could only have half a lager with my dinner instead of a pint I asked for because the manager had told her we could only have halves and single measures. When I asked why they told me it was company policy when dining with a small child. We just felt judged straight away, my burrito meal was tiny and I finished it before my wife's burnt pie and oven chips turned up. Absolutely appalling and has put a dampener on our stay at the premier inn. Hopefully the next Three nights are better but there is no way I am using that bar and restaurant again. Dreadful.

We ate in this restaurant twice. The first time we waited 45 minutes for a less than average meal. The second occasion my wife’s fish was dreadful with soggy batter and my gammon and egg had clearly been sat under the lights and the ham was tough and the egg was hard. The staff had a couldn’t care attitude. All in all two very disappointing meals.

Visited this restaurant while staying at the premier inn and had mixed feelings towards the experience. Drinks took 30 minutes to arrive and the garlic bread was a bit bland, noodles and burger were fantastic and so were the desserts. Jemma was friendly and engaging. Overall the food was mixed and the service a bit slow but friendly enough, worth a try if you’re staying at the premier inn!

We really enjoyed our dinner in this restaurant a few months before so decided to give it a go again, however something went wrong this time. The steaks were not what the menu promised, not the right cut, really tough and severely underdone. The house wine was also below expectations. We'll probably give it some time before trying it again!

I would like to say from the start that they were under staffed but I really don't think that excuses standing for 5 minutes in front of a member of staff waiting to be acknowledged for a table or the poor quality food which took over half an hour to arrive. We asked if the chicken burger was a chicken breast or breaded burger, we were told it was a breast, but got given a frozen breaded burger smothered in burger sauce and cold French fries. I understand being understaffed and the pressure that brings, a simple apology or explanation would have helped with the poor service but not the poor quality food.

If you are travelling and need a simple meal at the end of your day, Thyme is fine. If you want something a bit more special you are close enough to Canterbury centre to find another option, I think. Some Premier Inns have the Table Table restaurants attached and I think these are much nicer. At Thyme I had the fish and chips - straightforward Bird's Eye style food with oven chips and bullet peas. Not bad, but not special. Then I had Eton Mess, hoping it was going to be similar to the one I have at Table Table. It wasn't. The service was fine and friendly, and the environment is very comfortable and relaxing.

Having travelled for much of the day I was not in the mood to explore Canterbury in search of a restaurant and as i am staying at the Premier Inn, the easiest option was to dine at its restaurant Thyme. However, the most recent reviews did not set up my expectations. I am happy to say these were exceeded. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being too much. I ordered the BBQ burger - it was well presented, well cooked, with hot fries and the BBQ sauce was very good. Once I had finished a waitress cleared the table and offered dessert, instead I opted for the bill which arrived promptly. The restaurant and staff exceeded my expectations and I would be more than happy to dine here again

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I was staying with premier inn for two nights for business. I am actually still here and writing this in the comfort of my room. I did think about going elsewhere for dinner after reading the reviews but in all honesty I thought I would give them a chance... I did not have hugely high expectations as it is what it is ... a restaurant attached to a hotel. I ordered the duck wraps for starter and the chicken and bacon salad for main with a side of skinny fries and mac cheese... I was starving as missed my lunch earlier today. Starter ... okay ... average... not worth the £5.29 price tag but I had ordered from their meal deal which meant starter and main were £15 with a drink. However when the starter came the waiter delivered it to the table and actually said 'quack quack'... probably the most unprofessional way anyone has delivered a meal to a table. The main came... I can hand on heart say it was the worst chicken and bacon salad I have ever tasted. The chicken was stone cold and smothered in the worst tasting BBQ sauce ever with two pieces of bacon stuck on top of the very basic £10 salad?! The chicken was processed and cheap. Awful! I would expect this kind of standard in a cheap convenient chain eatery for half the price. I sent this back and did not take the offer of anything else as it made me feel quite ill. I had eaten the mac and cheese side which was barely edible and very plastic and tasteless. I ate it because I was starving. I ate the chips which were pretty much cold. I asked for the salad to be taken off my bill. After two different waitresses coming to my table and asking me what was wrong with the salad and having to explain twice I was offered £10 off my bill which was the cost of the salad. I was not offered compensation for my evening meal being ruined. I highlighted this fact which was ignored. I also pointed out that their house wine tasted off and watered down and offered the waitress to taste it... this was also left on my table untouched. I was offered no refund for this but offered another glass? I would also like to say that the waitress who dealt with my complaint was very loud about it in the restaurant and actually caused another customer to ask me what I had ordered!! That was not the best way to handle my complaint and a little embarrassing. I was trying to be discreet with my complaint for your benefit!!!!! The waitress offered a poor explanation about how there was nothing wrong with the sauce it was what they used on everything and that it must be my taste. She ignored my complaint of the chicken being cold? I was then told I would only be offered £10 refund because it was a set meal and that was all they could take off?? I even explained why I was unhappy with this as my entire meal was ruined, my drink was poor quality, I understand it is the house wine but still?? I don't expect a house wine to be that bad? Again no refund offered. They did offer me a coffee or another drink but by that time I was so annoyed I just wanted to leave. If you can go and explore the local restaurants , I am sorely regretting my decision to give this poor establishment a go.

The company I work for paid for me to have meals at the Thyme resteraunt Canterbury, the breakfast was ok and I was looking forward to my evening meals. The first night I had breaded mushrooms to start and the lamb burger (if you can call it lamb with the little lamb there was within the buger) for my main, both were disgusting! The second night I had the chicken wings starter and Chicken burger, again both were disgusting! I did not eat another evening meal there for the remainder of my stay otherwise I feel I may of become ill. I would say there is more nutritional value in a McDonalds then there is in any the food I had at Thyme! Top wack prices for Iceland frozen/microwave food! Disgusting!

We were surprised, given Premier Inn's reputation, that the menu and style were not more imaginative. The staff seemed over-run with the demand (in terms of numbers) from the hotel, and I think Premier and Thyme need to work to match Thyme resources with customer demand, especially given their premium position within the hotel itself. The choice of food my wife and I made was conditioned on being told that there would be a "long wait"; the items were not particularly inviting when they came, and the cost, was high. NOT good value.Another important point to be made is that when we arrived at about 8pm (without booking, since the brochure in our hotel room said the restaurant was open until 10pm), the booking desk had the "restaurant closed" notice in place; it was only after we complained to the staff member we eventually found about this, that they apologised and said that it was an error. We felt, in fact, that they were discouraging any more customers from coming.

Went here on the night I stayed at the premier Inn. The woman that greeted us was really nice and although we had to wait to be seated, she was assuring us the whole time that she would be with us in a second which was very polite. We got served quite quickly with drinks and again with food. I ordered a hotdogs but unfortunately 10 minutes later the chef made it known that they aren't serving hotdogs today so that was disappointing. I was looking forward to it. Therefore, I ordered a chicken burger instead. I had to think quick. We got our starters. Chicken wings!!! Absolutely gorgeous. Really enjoyed them. Our mains were a bit disappointing. My partner got a bacon cheese burger with a 'cheese rarebit' - now we assumed this was just a type of cheese. How wrong were we! If anything says CHEESE RAREBIT on it, do not order, it is horrible! There is not description of what it is before you order it, you are apparently just supposed to know. For anyone who doesn't know, it is a pile of sick like substance that they pile onto your plate. It put me off eating my food and I wasn't even the one eating it. My partner was gagging at the first few bites so he tried to scrap it off his burger but it was absolutely everywhere. He ate half because he was starving! We didn't complain because I guess we should have know what it was but how could we have guessed that it was a plate of mashed up watery cheese?! Anyway, mains out of the way.Dessert was sublime! I got profiteroles which were really tasty and you get 5 so it's a good portion for the money. Only thing is that it says 'lashings of fudge sauce' - it's just a tablespoon lol but that's just my greedy sweet tooth talking. Overall, price and service was good! The no hotdogs thing was a bummer but it can't be helped. 2 out of 3 course was really good. Just wish they had explained ingredients on the menu for us non-foodys. I wouldn't go back again in a hurry as I said about premier Inn but it was okay for a restaurant in a hotel.

It was disappointing that a restaurant had run out of as many things as they had which simply shouldn't happen but the chef made a fresh pancake for my daughter with nice ingredients when the other things ran out and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly although they were struggling judging by the speed of service. The food was generally good when it arrived although the couscous salad wasn't like any I'd seen before. the negatives seem to be management related e.g. Food stock and possibly number of kitchen staff. We ate here last night and were very disappointed in the whole experience of this thyme restaurant in this premier inn.....The restaurant was not busy what so ever so there should of been no excuse for this poor service, we were a party of nine diners and the starters came out at different times of which two were twenty minutes after the first......When the main meal arrived nearly 45 minutes after the last starter and us asking were the food was and being told that it was just getting plated and still having to wait a further 15-20 minutes........the food was cold the chips were not cooked properly and were wet and soggy.......Burgers, steak, ribs were all cold and were sent back.....hence another 20 minute wait. The waitresses were apologetic and a free round of drinks was given to us to compensate the wait and free deserts were offered, but we're declined as we were fed up of waiting. The whole experience has left a sour taste in our mouths and we will not recommend this thyme restaurant in this particular premier inn.

My partner and I were looking for somewhere nearby as we had a relatively short timescale for eating - we had to pick people up at 10pm. I called the venue much earlier and was told that they served until 9.45pm so we thought we would give it a try. We arrived at 8.50pm and were seated by a polite member of staff. She returned a few minutes later and took our order but she didn't actually write it down so it was no great surprise when she came back to us to check what we had asked for. As it was, we ordered two medium rump steaks and some drinks. When the food arrived, after about 10mins, there was no sign of a steak knife and none was offered. Both steaks were under-done but mine in particular was red raw in places. Unfortunately, no member of staff returned to ask how the meal was or if we wanted anything else until we had almost finished. I pointed out that part of the steak was inedible and undercooked and received a less than sincere apology. Due to the time constraints, I didn't complain too much when I went to the bar to pay but, when asked how the food was, I pointed out that it was undercooked and the comment made was "oh, you had the steak then?". Again, I was told they would have taken it back but I pointed out the time constraints. I've used the bar before and, whilst the staff are friendly enough when you can find them, I must echo other comments that it's often difficult to find anyone. A pity as it was a nice bit of beef, well presented with a nice sauce but I prefer my steak not to "moo" as I'm eating it!

Received a lump of chicken, accompanied with potatoes and carrots, 'garnished' with a thick, jelly-like blob of what I assume was supposed to be the accompanying sauce. Accompanying green beans were warm but practically raw, also recieved boiled (not new) potatoes which were very dry until staff could be persuaded to bring some butter. Second night ordered the grilled salmon steak- sauce bearnaise appeared to have curdled and smelt of rancid cheese, tomato tasted strongly of bacon and the grilled mushrooms were swimming in coloured water.Poor value for money- food is definitely overpriced for the quality you receive

However, I was on a table of four and was one of the first of the table to order. My meal however came an hour after everyone else's meal on my table, although cooked fresh was their excuse it did not excuse the fact that others had the same items in their breakfasts yet mine took so much longer. I had to notify the staff of my wait as they hadn't even noticed I had yet to be served. We ate here on the day we arrived at the hotel for which this is the restaurant and breakfast room. We were a little tired and chose this for convenience as it was already quite late. In retrospect a mistake as a little effort would surely have found us something better. We both had the fish and chips. Clearly not freshly made and probably pre-battered and straight out of the deep freeze. I have had much, much better fish and chips than this - just not good at all. The desserts were little better with the berries of one dessert still hard and frozen - so they definitely were out of the freezer. This is not really a restaurant in the traditional sense. They serve up poor quality pub-style food with little of no culinary content. The only thing you could say to its advantage was that it was cheap - and so it should be!

Not sure about the other reviews on here but I and 8 of my work colleagues enjoyed a very pleasant evening meal there last week. The waitress was friendly ,polite and looked after us. The starter (duck parcels) and main (grilled salmon) was well cooked and very tasty and my friends enjoyed their food as well. Would definitely recommend and definitely go back. Rob P

This is a brand new restaurant located in the city centre Premier Inn. It is tastefully decorated and comfortable. Also we found the serving staff polite, quick and efficient. Unfortunately we found that the food let the place down, not in the way it was cooked but in quantity and quality of the ingredients. My chicken breast was very small with a few chips and a small amount of vegetables. Also my wife's fish & chips tasted a bit strange and, on enquiring, we found that the fish was not cod or haddock as we would have expected, but some kind of imported catfish. We were left with the impression that this restaurant is run by accountants who wish to keep their costs down.

Nice and simple hotel in a prime location. Pub is busy but the staff are still accommodating, and they drew me this excellent T Rex picture. Very impressive!

Great place to eat and can take dog and messy grandchild without feeling uncomfortable. The staff are all lovely, I have often said it's the type of place I would want to work. Thanks

We had a voucher for carvery at £6. We had never been before. When we arrived we felt a little lost as did not know the procedure. However once we found someone to help we relaxed and went to the bar to order the carvery. We could have ordered at the table, by using a barcode, but as we are in our seventies, and not too computer savvy we went to the bar. The carvery was lovely. Beef was cooked as i like it, although as it was a new joint they brought out, it was a little fatty. The turkey was delicious. We were very happy as there were brussel sprouts and swede mix which we love. We really enjoyed the meal. The only thing we left on our plates was the beef fat. Otherwise we ate everything else on our plate.

Great location in a quiet village with garden, traditional pub food of high quality and reasonable price in an atmospheric old inn. Friendly staff. We've been a number of times over the years and it is our favourite. Only one bad experience when it was leased over a year or so ago.
