This is a decent and usually quite a busy Wetherspoons pub in the heart of Canterbury, making it a great place to stop off when exploring the city or shopping. It's pretty big with two levels, varied seating areas and even some tables along the pavement outside the pub but sadly no beer garden. You can even stay here as it's also a hotel. The food and drink is cheap and tasty as in most Wetherspoons pubs and brought out nice and quick. I would definitely recommend it if you want a bargain drink or meal when you are out in Canterbury.

After a long and tiring day in Canterbury, we checked into The Thomas Ingoldsby JD Wetherspoon Hotel, hoping for a good experience as it was our first time booking with JD Wetherspoon. Thankfully, the room exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, cozy, and had all the necessary facilities, especially in the bathroom, which was well-equipped and clean. Although there was no room service, everything else made up for it. Our stay was comfortable and relaxing. We truly enjoyed it and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Canterbury. A solid 100% recommendation from us!

The scene: Friday lunchtime. The dining party: myself, my husband and our 4 month old baby boy. Thank you to the wonderful staff for stepping in when some Karen started shouting at me for 'taking too long' in the disabled toilet (also a baby changing facility). Staff overheard the over-eager Karen trying repeatedly to break the door down whilst I was changing my baby, and intervened when she started to voice her volatile frustration upon my exit from the facilities. Super nice member of staff even approached us afterwards to apologise for the incident and to reassure us that the manager was keeping an eye on Karen in case she kicks off again. Awful experience made sweet by such an amazing response by the T. Ingoldby team! 🙏♥️

Cut me off at half 10 didn’t even give a reason left me outside in the cold for over an hour even tho I had valid ID wasn’t that drunk and being respectful I consider the staff to be very rude for this as a vulnerable 19 year old girl alone in Canterbury very very dangerous for me personally and they don’t seem to care at all. The staff in their very judgemental been here many times over the years and won’t be coming back if I was killed tonight doubt they would even care so much for this Angela stuff just a way to cover their backs absolute ignorant people I wasn’t even close to being over drunk many people were way worse off been in there longer than me but oh well just won’t be coming back I would also like to add I was with my trans female friend who has a severe speech impediment (you put it together) and that is the only reason I can think why they thought we were too drunk which is straight up discrimination I want to note also I wrote this just after being kicked out you tell me if I’m “too drunk” should be careful coz if they carry on like this they will be expecting a lawsuit stop being sexist and discriminative do better !!! I’m very scared for all women who go to this bar please be careful and don’t trust the staff

Went with a large group of friends friends. Spent three hours here, all ordered food and drinks then bar staff deemed one of the party was too drunk to serve despite him being well mannered. Suddenly all three tables ordered to leave...designated drivers included. Staff were extremely rude, a couple with their dog outside also refused service even though they were on the pavement which isn't owned by Weatherspoons. I should mention there was a lady collapsed on the floor in the pub for the entire time we were there, we attempted to help but were informed it wasn't required....they eventually called her an ambulance which arrived as we were evicted. Disgusting staff!

Went today as a stop on a Canterbury quest we were doing. We sat outside with a tiny dog, was quiet, no harm to anyone. Staff came out several times (despite a party of 6 spending money) telling us we can't have a dog as 'it's policy', i understand if noisy or threatening. Other customers expressed their disdain at the rule as was harmless and no concern whatsoever! We moved on quickly but spoilt our day!, wouldn't go back!

Just spent over £30 on two gormay steak meals, shame I can't post a picture of the amount of grisle and fat we had to cut from them. This is the third time I've visited this venue and been serviced an unedable meal, I should have known better. I use the Dover Eight Bells regularly and can't understand why there's such a vast difference in the quality of food being served. Canterbury, find out why Dover are way above your standards. The location was perfect for the town and one of the cheaper hotels. The downside was no on-site or street parking. There is a car park behind the pub but it's expensive at £30 per day. We parked a 5 minute walk away (in Holman's Meadow) for half the price. If you're only staying the night both car parks charge £2 overnight (9pm to 7.30am). The staff were lovely, friendly, and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable and of a good size. The room we were in had an opening skylight as opposed to a window and although it made a humming noise when part opened, it did not stop us sleeping. The food was ok, tasty and cheap. Breakfast could have been warmer. Lunch was better, and best of all - the warm cookie dough sandwich; the only thing I remembered to take a photo of! Well, that, my sparkly shoes and the Hugo spritz cocktail ;)

This good sized Weatherspoons pub is located just inside the Canterbury city wall and comprises two floors and a hotel. The pub is open all day serving breakfast and then dinner until late. The main public bar is on the ground floor, with a second satellite bar upstairs. This pub serves reasonable food including pizzas and burgers. It can become very busy late afternoon, however seating for small groups can normally be found at the very back (raised section) or upstairs.

I am a regular Wetherspoons visitor and have defended them many times over the years. Unfortunately the whole experience being a customer of this outlet has become very different. The food is now living up to the previously unjustified criticism. The burgers seem to have shrunk in recent times and the chicken is, in my view inedible. The last time I ordered chicken it had absolutely zero texture and turned to mush in my mouth, which I found revolting. I have not ordered food from them since. It just amazes me how many people seem to find it acceptable, because the venue is very well supported. The other problem is with the WiFi, which in conjunction with the app is a very important aspect of their business. For the last few weeks, it has been mostly impossible to use the app and at such a busy time of the year, I am quite honestly amazed at the reaction from staff when informing them about this. They have no interest whatsoever. Many local people that I know have had the same sort of experiences and eventually they will reap the rewards of very poor management.

I worked for ten years in these pubs, done the morning shift solo and I couldn't have made a worse breakfast if I tried. There were 2 people in the downstairs bar and I got given a plate of beans with a sausage and an egg the first go around (ordered a large breakfast). After sending it back, I got a large breakfast, minus the tomato. Hash browns were obviously not freshly cooked, bacon microwaved and only cooked on the grill on one side, the mushroom had been microwaved too. Absolutely terrible breakfast, especially so considering that it was first thing in the morning. Whoever was in the kitchen on morning shift of 28/11/24 should be retrained. If you want a spoons breakfast, go to the St. Dunstans one, Ingoldsby has staff that obviously don't care.

Disappointing food. Wetherspoons use to be a great place to eat but they must be going down hill or struggling financially. I wanted to order sausage and mash but they’ve reduced their menu. No problem, I get a chilly non-carne on jacket potato. I paid for cheese. When it came the portion size was that for a child. Hardly any chilly and about a tablespoon of cheese on top. I’m quite a skinny person and notorious for not being a big eater so for me to say that was too small is saying something. The staff were all friendly though. A bit rushed off there feet. It looks like the place needs to hire more people to help out. All round it just feels like the business is cutting corners and it shows!

Popped in after a very long time, yesterday. We bought drinks and sat down to look at the menu......... a member of staff wearing a red and black checked shirt, beard and his hair in a ponytail was standing by the food preparation area, took the band out of his hair and shook his head then reapplied the band. He then went behind the bar and served a customer with drinks, then returned to the plating area without washing his hands. We decided not to eat. There is no point in speaking to "management" as the last time we went (several years ago) I was sitting eating when a customer threw his sweaty T shirt across the seating area and it landed around my head, I spoke to "management" who said she would look at the CCTV, she came back and said it wasn't on there. I visit Herne bay about five times a year. I used to go playing the Amusements in neptunes and used to eat lovely fish and chips there. They used to be free because I played the machines. When it closed I tried deans place as the chef worked there after neptunes closed. The fish was still nice.. Fast forward years and the fish portions seemed smaller. The last few times including this one the fish batter is softer. Fish was smaller and not as tasty This time granddaughter saveloy was hard. Not like a saveloy taste imo. My fish was small slimy texture and soft batter insipid flavour and chips looked anaemically white. Nothing special to taste . . My wife's wasn't too bad but at nearly fifteen pounds each i won't ever go again.

UK garage and more on the day and everyone being friendly and having fun. Pints reasonably priced. No entry fee. Packed dancefloor but space to dance and have fun. Nothing inappropriate going on. Gem.

We found this little gem by chance this afternoon and popped in for a family lunch. The staff were so warm and friendly and could not do more for you. Our son loved the play area and made the most of the sun whilst we waited for lunch. We ordered a mixture of things - a sirloin steak, vegan steak burger and vegan nuggets basket meal for our son. Everything was flawless. The portions were gigantic (and I should add that’s the only reason the plates were not cleared!) and extremely good value for money. My husband commented that the vegan steak burger is the nicest burger he has ever had. Add to this there was a phenomenal collection of beer and cider bottled and on tap. The atmosphere was brilliant and though we were having an early lunch, the garden was soon filling up. Really delightful find. We had to head off quite quickly so I didn’t get a chance to thank management personally for such a great visit so thought I’d do the next best thing and leave a much deserved 5* review instead. Looking forward to coming back!
