Food is amazing, service is brilliant.

What a hidden gem. Small, cosy, well run professional business. The food was delicious and HOT! Traditional service standards by the waiting staff. Very attentive and helpful. This is a firm local favourite now.

Amazing food and impecable service - great owner who recommended some new drinks to try and they were all delicious - would highly recommend Thyme and Plaice.

The food was absolutely delicious this evening. Service is lovely but a little a over with drink offers. Overall go for a lovely meal with plenty of time and a taxi home.

First time I had been here last night, and my experience from walking in the door to leaving was fantastic, nothing is to much trouble, the staff and the chef are unbelievable, the food is amazing. Would highly recommend a visit.

High standard would benefit with cloth napkins rather than paper. Picky, I know but the rest was so good. Not really a venue for children.

This place is a hidden gem, fantastic customer service and the food quality was excellent. The lamb was cooked to perfection and full of flavour, we will definitely be back!

We go here about twice a year. Today being our next visit. The food is excellent as is the service. When you are seated you have your table for the night in the relaxed atmosphere which is very nice. I also like that if you go in a larger group the table is square so every one can speak with each other. Would highly recommend and I would say one of the best restaurants in Chorley / Wigan

Superb coffee and a good selection of cakes. I recommend the rhubarb-apple pie. Very friendly and easy going owner, overall a very pleasure experience dining there.

Great little find. Food great, ambience good, booked table for four of us and there was no rush for us to leave. Will go again.

Had an excellent meal here with friends. Very cosy place and the owner and the young girl who looked after us were very friendly but not intrusive. We will definitely visit again, highly recommend booking a table before you visit.

First time here with friends. Food was lovely and great service. My friend is gluten intolerant and due to everything being made fresh this was no problem for them. The young waitress was attentive and friendly. No beer or lager on pumps but enough bottles to cater for everyone. Loved the gin and there’s a cocktail menu which may need to be sampled next time. Not a large place but the social distancing was good and very clean. Nice atmosphere. Well done guys.

I have rarely written a review on a restaurant but every time I visit I feel I should offer credit where credit is due. My husband and I called a few days ago for a special anniversary and as per usual staff chef and meal where excellent. If your looking for something special this is the ‘plaice’ .

Had a fabulous time here with some family. The food is exquisite. The owners/staff are friendly and helpful, service was brilliant, we were well looked after. It's good value for great food. Quite intimate so would recommend booking. Great selection of beers, wine and mocktails.

You will have to try this place our 3rd visit you get looked after the food is fantastic really cosy relaxed and they do a nice bottle of malbec very nice can't fault it you need to book though enjoy.

It's been a number of years since we last visited and yet again, it surpassed expectations.The food is outstanding and is a credit to the chef. Six of us had 3 courses and each dish was outstanding. From the hake and sea bass to the lamb shank and duck, not to mention the cheesecake and other desserts.The staff are so friendly and polite and nothing is too much trouble. Set in an intimate dining room, it is a relaxed atmosphere and there is no rush as the table is yours for the evening.The young waitresses really are lovely and so professional. They can't do enough for you. I don't like to single individuals out as all the staff were great, but the young waitress with the dark hair (hadn't heard of cognac ) was a pleasure. She really looked after us and joined in with the banter. (Sorry, I didn't get names.)Thank you to the chef and other kitchen staff. The food really was cooked so well and the presentation was great too.Thank you to the owner who was very accommodating as we arrived early but allowed us to park and enter early. (Sorry about that!)Would highly recommend and won't leave it too long before returning.

1st time here with friends,we had read the reviews and decided to try it,we were not disappointed,the food was great and the staff were lovely,will be going back pretty soon.

This little restaurant is another hidden gem, tucked away in a quiet location, well worth a visit as the food was good quality and freshly cooked, with excellent service and attention to detail. Also very reasonably priced for such a delicious meal, I look forward to my next visit

What a hidden gem this is, a converted pub but the food is amazingWent with friends not for the first time the food was beautiful the staff are attentive and look after your needs.They have a very well stocked winery and they are wonderful. We had the goats cheese cake last night with walnuts, never had it before it melted in your mouth both men had steaks and there was nothing left.if you want enjoy a lovely evening and not have to travel this is the place to go

We were a table of 4, good selection of gins to try while we perused the menu in the lounge. Prawns on the specials menu were good, however the risotto rice was slightly undercooked. Rack of lamb was cooked to perfection, salmon looked good and the lamb shoulder special was good too. The vegetarian options were limited but tasty. Wine, both red and white were good. Puddings all demolished. Coffee sealed the night. Our table was next to a radiator which had to be switched off to save the person sitting next to it served up as slightly pink. Problems with the card machine, telephone line but not an issue. Staff attentive. Good night, thanks!

This is a little gem tucked away down Wigan Lane. Although on the main road it has a large accommodating car park at the rear. Once inside a warm attentive welcome awaits you from the small team of staff. We visited on a Friday evening so had the choice of either an Al a Carte menu or the Friday Special which had a good range of meats and fish. Either 2 or 3 courses up to £19.50 for all 3. Great value for a plate full of superbly cooked food. A wide variety of drinks were also available to suit all tastes and to compliment your food choice. The table is yours for the evening so there’s no conveyor belt syndrome to worry about. And what’s more important no loud music to shout over if there’s a few of you. Just good food, good service and a chance to talk to your dining friends.

Had a meal here tonight with my husband, been many times over the years and never fails to provide a first class service. The food is excellent and well recommended.

Eat recently with some friends and we were all extremely happy with our food. The menu was varied and food wascooked to perfection. The final bill was also very good considering the quality

Probably a few years since we visited for no particular reason. A very warm welcome was had and after a drink in the bijou bar where we picked from an ample menu. All six of us had different meals and every one was great. This plaice is not a large restaurant so it is quite intimate which I like.

Great service & food on a quiet Thursday night. Thank you to our lovely host who looked after us from start to finish. We'll be back! Fab food.

Been here before and it never fails to impress. The staff are great and the food is sublime. I had the grilled Mackerel with Rhubarb and Capers followed by Fillet steak and white chocolate, orange and ginger cheescake to finish.

Excellent service from the minute we walked through the door. Love the fact that the menus aren't huge... 6 choices are ample. The food was flavoursome and well presented on all courses and the liquor coffee was amazing. Really cannot find any fault with anything.. read lots of reviews and we were a little apprehensive but we loved everything and will definatley be back nx week

Been here a number of times as a couple, with family and on this occasion with friend. Very good menu both a la Carte and special weekday deal you can enjoy a very nice meal in pleasant surroundings. Sadly there is a real effort to up sell drinks which detracts from the flow and enjoyment of the evening, hence we cannot score a five.

Our second visit to this restaurant. Polite efficient staff served us our drinks and our meal. We never felt hurried and the whole experience was enjoyable. The menu was interesting with a specials board. Three of us ate a spiced lamb dish which was extremely tasty. We chose wines from a good list. Nothing to fault here and well worth 5 stars.

Excellent food a specisl place to visit. Very personal. Its a bit out of the way but well worth a visit.

Distinctly average. Good food but not breathtaking, seems to be run for the convenience of the management and staff rather than it's customers, waiting staff uninterested. "Restaurant by numbers". One of our group ordered a pint of lager shandy which he was served but then refused a half pint of lager later as "we don't do halves". Did ask how the shandy was made but never got a response. Far better options in the area.

Way overpriced drinks. Cold restaurant frosty staff. Bland decor. Food good But all very expensive And no thank you or communication as we were leaving Give it a miss, spend your money where it is appreciated

It had been a few years since we visited The Thyme & Plaice mainly due to busy life style. As we suspected nothing had changed. Great quality food and attentive service. Well what do you expect when the husband co-owner is in the kitchen and the wife co-owner is front of house. They have being doing this now for 17 years so you just know you are always in for a meal without problems.

Went on valentines night for the special 3 course menu and it was brilliant. The atmosphere and the ambiance of the place is spot on. Very small and intimate and it runs like clockwork. They really do pay attention to detail which makes it feel really special.

Service was amazing. Food was top quality using best ingredients and the presentation was beautiful. Can't wait to return. Gorgeous

This is a small friendly restaurant, a little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. The set menu is extremely good value especially as there is a good choice. The food is well presented colourful and delicious. The restaurant is warm and comfortable and staff are really helpful and pleasant.ban excellent little restaurant.

We recently moved to the area and had always wondered what this place was like.Quite often driving passed I wasn’t sure when or if it ever opened.

Love this little gem, delicious food, quiet night out for a meal.

Have not been before in spite of driving past regularly. Doesn't look the most promising place from the outside. Went for a birthday midweek meal. Nice place to sit whist you have a pre-dinner drink and choose. Choice of fixed price 2 or 3 courses...

Staying at a nearby hotel for a wedding the next day we stumbled across this restaurant in an old pub....

We haven't been for a while, but soon we wished we had. All courses were delicious for both the carnivore (me) and the veggievore (my better half). My duck starter with hoisin sauce and spring onion was very tasty as was my partners goats cheese and sunblushed tomato cheesecake. Mains were a rare fillet steak and mushroom rissoto which were lovely. Of course we had pud and both soon history! The meal was washed down with a good bottle of 2009 Italian wine (No 15 on the wine list). Caribbean coffee sealed the night. Lovely staff. This restaurant is a credit to the owners. Thanks!

We arrived at 7.30pm for our table booked at 8.00pm to be greeted with "you're early and your table is only booked for 8 o'clock" and as there was there is no room in the lounge, "do you mind sitting at your table" Someone eventually came to take our drinks order and when we asked for menus to look at we were told" but your table is only for 8 o'clock we will bring the menus then" We eventually got some menus at approx 7.55 and were told there were specials up on the board which we could not see from where we were sat. When two people from our party got up to look at the specials board, someone from behind the bar decided to follow them back to our table and fully go through the specials which SHOULD have been done in the first place.

Another great evening at Thyme & Plaice. As always the staff are great, really friendly and welcoming, the set menu in the week is great value for money - £16.95pp for 3 courses and the food is of top restaurant quality, good portion sizes and good presentation.We will be back again!

Our second visit, first was in December. This time we were with friends who hadn't been before. Everyone impressed by the menu and the quality and presentation of the food. One downside was once again there was some confusion over one of our main course selections from which menu. When this was raised with the waitress the reaction was rather abrupt, despite four of us all recalling we had clearly specified which menu we were ordering from. However we would not prevent going back as the food is good, but waitress perhaps should consider her approach in handling a customer concern !!

From the moment we stepped inside, it was warm and the welcome we got was caring and perfect. The service was nothing short of outstanding all the way through the evening. The menu was varied with the right balance of choice and every drink we had was again perfect. Fantastic value for money with the best service around.

This was our first visit and will be returning for sure. Pleasant and relaxed atmosphere nice decor.We were first in restaurant on a Saturday evening at 6.45, they had told us they only had table for two at this time or 8.30pm. At 8.45pm when we left we were little surprised to see two tables for two still completely free so see no reason why we could not have had table at 7.30pm, but not a great issue.We had little misunderstanding over a starter but this was quickly resolved without fuss. We had a meal of excellent quality, with very pleasant and efficient service. My partner really enjoyed the duck and I had the very nice chicken wrapped in pancetta.Would not hesitate to recommend but it is quite small so best to book I would suggest.

Here for "Christmas Do", we have been here several times and its never failed to please , this place is very welcoming has a good atmosphere , our meals were great service very good- a good night had by all

This was the first time at this restaurant and it is so close to home! We had friends staying and wanted somewhere different to eat. It turned out to be a good choice, all 4 were impressed with the food we got. It's only a small restaurant and so booking, especially for weekends, is advisable. Staff were very friendly, service was good. The only thing I would say is that the drinks are a bit on the expensive side, but overall the priced for what we had was reasonable. We'll be going again.

We visited again recently and enjoyed the usual warm welcome and excellent food from both the a la carte and specials. Yes, it can be a bit irritating to be constantly asked if everything is ok but they are making sure that it is. Highly recommended. It doesn't quite fit into either 'mid-range' or 'fine dining'; it's not stuffy but it's more than what I would call mid-range.

Came with some friends food was ok nice little place would maybe give it another try have heard some great reviews so maybe just an off day!

I came here last month with my partner,we came in off the off chance and they had a table,the waitresses was lovely and we got well looked after. There was a bit of a wait on the food. I loved my main and plenty of veg I had lamb which was brill. But the starter which was Thai fish cakes wasn't it was bit dry and lacking flavour. Also while eating it was bit annoying waitress coming up so often to check once is ok.

After seven hours on the M6 we found this restaurant on the road-side having decided to take a break from the queues and break the journey. It was dark, were tired and had not had luck elsewhere closer to the motorway. Neither were we really dressed for Friday night eating out both in jeans and not a hair was turned. We were welcomed with a smile and offers of menus. We had starters and main courses which arrived promptly from friendly staff. The quality of cooking was good with excellent ingredients which showed through. It would be a good place to go for dinner under any circumstances and good value.

This was a surprise visit planned by our friends for our first wedding anniversary and it was superb.All the meals were piping hot and delivered to our table with a pleasant smile and we enjoyed the whole experience very much

Everything about this restaurant is excellent, We visited after reading the reviews and were not disappointed. We booked on a weekday evening and selected from their weekday menu. The food was exceptional and we still cannot get over the value for money. My lamb dish was by far the best I have ever tasted and the starters were flavorsome. The service was good and you were made to feel very welcome.
