Booked for lunch in this lovely old style pub/restaurant in Romsey. The Maître d' Rob is an excellent host, and has a friendly and professional team, whom made our experience delightful. The cuisine on offer was not just a 'Sunday roast', and I had a wonderful risotto for my main course, whilst my wife enjoyed the chicken Caesar salad. We sampled the Crémant Rose, which was excellent. All in all a great dining experience....and a mention for the background music playlist, fantastic! Try this venue, you will not be disappointed.

Just to say Rob and the team were amazing today. I’d booked and pre ordered food for nine people. Due to horrendous traffic in and around the area our 30 minute trip took an hour and 45 minutes making most of our party an hour late. The two that made it in time informed Rob of the traffic issues and he said it wasn't a problem. When we finally arrived Rob and the team made us feel very welcome and when our food arrived it was delicious. The staff were friendly throughout and very attentive. I would highly recommend this pub and we will definitely re visit very soon.

Pleasant atmosphere and staff helpful. Limited mains option for vegetarian. I chose Caesar salad but was disappointed as only one type of lettuce leaf - made it very dull and boring . I fed this back to the waitress when asked ‘how was everything?’. She said she would feed back to the chef - but I had no response/apology or acknowledgment of my disappointment. I personally wouldn’t return for a meal here.

What a pleasant surprise not only was the pub ambience perfect the subdued lighting and roaring fire helped all the staff were brilliant as was the food . The young girl behind the bar was so knowledgeable about the beers and wines on offer simply because ‘she wanted to understand what she was serving’ in her own words . That was a brilliant start followed by some great food served to us in an enthusiastic and humorous manner that added to the enjoyment of what was exceptional food . Highly recommend this for food and ambience

The pub is very cramped, we came away with a headache as it was so noisy. We had to shout to have a conversation.Considering the amount of customers the service was ok, the staff tried hard but service was slow. There is limited choice on the menu, I assume this is because their kitchen is small. The roast dinner is good. The fruit crumble and custard was not as good as we have had it before and was barely warm.We would not recommend a Sunday visit.

No starters, but three mains ordered and served quickly. Fish and Chips, Salmon served with samphire, mash potatoes, mix vegetables and a seafood jus and three local sausages, onion gravy and chunky chips. Generous portions, tasty food, nice presentation and absolutely no complaints about the quality.Bar areas are comfortable and recently decorated. Disappointed in the boring menu - we came for the fantastic food and interesting menu that we experienced multiple times 2018-2020 pre-Covid. What a total let down. Our hearts sank when we saw bog standard pub grub. Shame you have lowered your standards we won’t be back as can get more exciting food elsewhere. What we ate however was well cooked and cannot be criticised it was all nice just the choices nothing special - could go to any pub anywhere and see the same boring stuff on offer . The only slightly interesting thing was the veloute with the salmon but even that although delicious wasn’t really a veloute. Big shame won’t be back unless we hear the menu is better again . Yawn bummer wish we had gone somewhere else. Sorry!!!!

6 of us plus dog arrived at 6pm on a very busy Friday evening without a reservation but were quickly shown to a table. That was fortunate for us as several people who arrived shortly after us were made aware that there were no more tables available for dinner for at least a couple of hours. Understandable, as it was obvious so many people were eating already. The staff were all superb - friendly, knowledgeable and attentive - even fetching a bowl of water and some treats for our dog. Our orders were taken, drinks and sharing starters arrived very promptly afterwards. We took some time to choose our main courses from several unusual options alongside some pub favourites. In due course, the mains arrived - all nicely presented and without exception we all thoroughly enjoyed what we had. We visited for lunch on a Tuesday. The 300-year-old interior is delightful, but the menu offered was not particularly interesting (not so good as a few years ago). I chose a chicken, ham and leek pie. My wife chose two starters: buttermilk chicken and hot-smoked trout rillettes. I ordered a gin-and-tonic with Fevertree ronic and the house gin (Gordons). The gin was well presented, with plenty of ice (as requested) and three slices of lemon. My home-made pie was tasty with a good pastry. My wife's two starters were quite OK but rather unexciting.

Characterful pub set in a residential street, close to the River Test and about five minutes walk from Romsey town centre. Staff are friendly and welcoming and there's a great selection of ales, including offerings from the local Flack Manor Brewery. I opted for a pint of Romsey Gold, but they also have Double Drop available on handpump plus a few other ales. The food is okay, but that's about as far I would go. Perhaps it's a Covid thing, but the menu is quite restricted, and not particularly cheap either. I opted for the Buttermilk Chicken at £12.95. This was basically two pieces of deep fried chicken breast, coated in a very think layer of breadcrumbs and served with chips plus meant to be coleslaw but as I don't eat mayonnaise, they substituted it with a (very small) green leaf salad. All perfectly eatable but for a nice meal out, I would have expected something with a bit more flair.

All 3 types of meals ordered ranged from poor to terrible, the ploughmans bread was too hard to eat and was sent back and very poor value for money. Having reviewed this establishment in Aug 2018 copied below:- [Having driven past the Three Tuns on a regular basis decided to actually give it a try. What a good decision, I originate from Hull once home to the greatest fishing fleets ever known and know my way around a decent bit of fish well I must admit I enjoyed one of the best if not the best fish and chip supper since I left Hull in 1959. Certainly on the visit again list].We where disappointed to find that the high standard of food we had become used to no longer applied although the service remains excellent. The menu and food where both uninspired and left a lot to be desired. I had the cod and chips which turned out to be a sliver of some specimen of fish coated in an undercooked tasteless batter. I was offered but refused a replacement but a replacement was brought anyhow and that matched the first offering. The Three Tuns cannot trade on 'WINNER! BEST PUB IN HAMPSHIRE 2017' anymore as there are lots of establishments vying for repeat customers and the Three Tuns is not one of them. I do hope the standards improve as this has been on our repeat visits for some time but not any longer.

My wife and i visited for a snack lunch. There was plenty of room outside, undercover and inside. The tables were well spaced. The waitress did not wear a mask, which was unusual in the pandemic times. We enjoyed our beers. I ordered a Ploughman's Lunch. It contained various items: ham, cheddar, boiled egg, small pork pie + pickle. The bread was a very fresh baguette (so much better than the bread recently served to me at the Goat). The ham was not quite so good, seemingly from a supermarket pack instead of hand carved. I enjoyed the lunch, largely because of the high quality bread and butter, also the fresh radishes in the salad. My wife enjoyed her egg and cress sandwich on granary bread.

Hadnt visited for Sunday roast since before the couple that ran the pub previously left at the end of 2019. This used to be hands down the best roast beef sunday dinner anywhere locally at any price. Unfortunately the roast we had on Sunday was nowhere near as nice as it used to be. It wasnt terrible, just average. Beef was very rare and quite chewy. The clever way the veg used to be presented and cooked is gone. The menu now has less choice and the roast dinners are not priced individually anymore, you are encouraged to choose either 2 or 3 courses for a fixed amount. As it transpired when we got the bill the cost of the roast has gone up from £13.95 to over £15 which wouldnt matter at all if it was as good as it used to be. A real shame, but when I heard the tennants had left it was something that I half expected to happen. Still a decent enough pub but I couldnt really recommend the roast to friends which I would do passionately previously.

The local ale was well looked after, which was no surprise. What was surprising was the fantastic food. They of course offer the pub classics of fish and chips etc, but had a good selection of "fine dining" options, and these were tremendous. The staff were friendly and attentive, so our experience could not have been better. They are dog friendly too.

Really love to come to this great little English pub, but why on earth do you have a selection of light bulbs over the bar that instantly destroy the ambience of this endearing place. Too bright - too toxic - and no TWO are the same. Take the bar out of the spotlight and embrace the atmosphere.

We were very well looked after by the Three Tuns team, and ate well here. With a relative just moving to the area we picked the Three Tuns for a family evening meal following a recommendation from a friend. They could not have been more accommodating, coping with the increase in numbers, making recommendations on the best place to sit, and making us comfortable when we arrived. Good food well priced too, with our group picking the venison pie, bream, and fish and chips for mains, and rice puds, cheesecake and ice cream for desserts. Very tasty and a good mix of fresh ingredients. Dog also joined us and agreed. Thoroughly recommended, and thanks to the team.

We met my Mother half way between Kent and Somerset for a pub lunch to celebrate her birthday and hit this place on the map. I’m so glad we did!

Never visited this pub before but I was in the area, it’s a fabulous looking building even though it looks rather run down outside, and basis inside which is fine. But the food was pretty bad Poor quality ingredients, badly presented.

This is a firm favourite and we will continue to visit. It is a great little pub with bags of character. We were seated in the dining area. The food is always delicious and good value. We tried celeriac soup, trout, hake, burger and vegetable pie. Everything was excellent. The staff are lovely. If there are a few of you, you will need to book as this is a small pub with limited tables and very popular.

It is not the biggest pub in Romsey but it punches above its weight as far as service and food . We booked a table in the restaurant which has aound two dozen covers.

Went with friends for a meal on a Saturday evening. The food, service, ambience and atmosphere were all excellent. Would definitely go again. Vegetarians catered for as well, and with a good selection

The food is sublime - there is a genius in the kitchen. The waitress in the white top - Think she is a sort of boss is brilliant - but the crowded restaurant is not good. We were about 2 feet away from the couple on the next table and they could hear and we could hear their conversation. The proprietors have crammed too many tables in a small space. My other moan is - this is a pub so why don’t they serve large glasses of wine ? They serve - 125 mls or 175 mls or a bottle. A cheap ploy to make us spend money .I love the food but not the discomfort of the restaurant

We had a great lunch for 9 of us, all choosing the roast. The portions are very generous and prices reasonable. The waiting staff were very helpful, bringing out the birthday cake after we'd eaten. The pub has a cosy atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

My title says it all, really; but need to state also how friendly and welcoming the staff are and at lunchtimes simply delicious, affordable light meals - my husband meets his friends here often, too. Good beer! Vivien Verey Art Studio.

I do like this pub, and I will be back but was very frustrated by the service yesterday. Turned up with my son and sister for a quick sandwich and pint at 2pm. I knew they did good doorstop sandwiches and have a good selection of ales and beers.

We went to the Three Tuns for a family birthday celebration - 7 adults and a 5 year old. We've been here several times, but this time the welcome and service throughout was outstanding. A very friendly, patient waitress and excellent food for all of us. Thank you. We will be back.

We were staying over the road from the Three Tuns and popped in one evening for a bit to eat. I expected decent food, but this beat our expectations. We had Hummus and Whitebait for starters, more than generous portions. My wife had hake for main and i tried the Steak and mushroom pie. Absolutely fantastic, served with creamy mash and very well cooked veg. A couple of Ciders and wines later mean't no room for pud, although i expect that would have been superb as well. Service was nice and the staff very friendly and eager to please. Well done and compliments to the food staff.

Absolute wee gem of a pub that we booked for our small wedding reception. The food, service and atmosphere was superb. The friendly team could not be more helpful and also accommodated some last minute changes, which we were very grateful for.

I went with my friends and partner to watch the England v Spain game. Sadly England lost but the atmosphere was still great in there. The land lady made sure she found a seat for everyone, grabbing the garden chairs from the back and rearranging the tables so everyone could get a glimpse of a goal. When the match was ending, all of the tables were given a bowl of roasties to share on the house. The land lady was chatty and kind. The staff were also really nice. It is a small pub on the edge of romsey but I would definitely go there again.

Adequate for a one night stay. Staff were most welcoming and helpful. The check-in with the corporate IT system proved problematic. It refused to take my visa card(s) - 3, and we eventually paid by cash. The staff were excellent, and service was also first class.

Recommended by my family living locally who visit regularly. So we did. Quite quirky we loved that! Bar area and separate eating. Ordered mackerel pate on toast (homemade) & mushrooms on toast both were delicious. Coffee was pretty good not too strong. My sister had a smiley face on her latte… I was envious but promised it would be my turn next visit 😂 Mike the owner was lovely very friendly and knew our cousins. My sister & I will make this our go to place as I live in Surrey & she in Hants. A good midway point to meet. We both have fond memories of Romsey as children. So see you in a couple of weeks time & there after > 👍
