I went with my friends and partner to watch the England v Spain game. Sadly England lost but the atmosphere was still great in there. The land lady made sure she found a seat for everyone, grabbing the garden chairs from the back and rearranging the tables so everyone could get a glimpse of a goal. When the match was ending, all of the tables were given a bowl of roasties to share on the house. The land lady was chatty and kind. The staff were also really nice. It is a small pub on the edge of romsey but I would definitely go there again.

Wow. What a find in the lovely town of Romsey. Excellent real ales and good food available. Comfortable indoors or under the cover outside with amazing arrangements of flowers. Knowledgeable ladies behind the bar were so helpful and were keen for us to sample other beers. We willingly obliged. Certainly will return.

Well worth a visit, barely a 2 minute walk from the town centre. Great selection of beers and pub grub.

I had roast turkey on Sunday and have to say it was excellent. I have a healthy appetite and struggled to eat it all. Nice choice of vegetables all cooked to perfection, it had all the usual trimmings and the best gravy. Excellent value for money, may have to squeeze another in before Christmas

We tried to book a room but unfortunately they were full but we thought we would check the place out for a future trip, so glad we did !! There was a live acoustic free for all and it was amazing - what an array of talent Romsey has!! Pleasant staff, friendly locals, good ales and free quality entertainment - what else could you want? Well done The Star 👍👍👍

I was working nearby for a couple of days and just needed somewhere to sleep. The room was large and clean and the full english breakfast was good. All in all good value for money. One word of warning - I arrived to discover there was a band playing. They stopped at midnight and then the juke box went on. This wasn't a major problem for me as I was very tired and always take earplugs with me when traveling just in case. If I had been traveling with a family and using this as a stop over for the nearby Paulton's Park Peppa Pig Theme Park it would have been a different matter. I'm not saying don't use this place just check to see if there's a band playing before you confirm. There are family rooms and with the above proviso would heartily recommend this place.

We arrived at the star having driven out to another pub and having to turn away as a sign said "no food tonight due to circumstances beyond our control". We drove past and thought "why not"! So glad we did. The friendly guy behind the bar had to ask which was the house red and I was given an option of two (chose the merlot which was lovely!). He was bright and friendly, gave us menus and pointed out the specials. We went through to the dining area and found trivial persuit cards on the table to keep us amused. We placed our order at the bar where we were warned there could be a half hour wait which we were not at all concerned by. I couldn't even tell you if it took that long though (it didn't seem to!) As we giggled through some of the kids triv questions (concerning the colour of Tiny Winky!). The starters were fantastic! We had the brie and prawns and shared both of them. They were so good I could have had three of each and no main!!! The simple things like salad dressing made the meal! Mains, I had steak and my fiancé had a chicken burger. I asked for my steak rare and fully expected to get it medium as usual but it came perfectly rare but beautifully seared on the outside. Bliss! Again the salad dressing was a simple addition that made such a difference. All too often dry salad is plonked on the side of the plate, totally inedible and just to garnish the plate. My fiancé reperted that the chicken burger was moist and lovely too. Staff were very friendly unintrousively making sure we had everything we needed (Although you can help yourself as the condiments are on a dresser in the room). We were brought the desert board to look at and struggled to choose. I had a sticky toffee pudding which was as you would expect, can't go too far wrong with these microwave deserts but this was one of the nice ones! My fiancé had the coffee sundae and I have to admit to food envy. It tasted like Thornton coffee creams! Very simple but so scummy! There is also a skittle alley which some children were making use of, a lovely garden with a variety of chickens, ducks and I think I spotted a turkey. Seemed to be dog friendly as there was a lovely doddery old alsation by the bar. Someone obviously has a sense of humour here with the pictured of brown trout by the toilets! All in all I could not fault it. Had a lovely evening.

i did not enjoy being pecked for my food during my lunch. We were lucky with the weather though. The ribs were fair. There was not a great deal of meat on them and the chips were under cooked. The setting was fabulous though, shame about the food.

Without sounding too smug I feel so lucky living in Romsey and having some wonderful pubs to go to. This is one of our favourites. The landlady and staff know how to run a successful pub. It is friendly, cosy and serves a good pint

We were booked to stay overnight and had requested a quiet room. On arrival Sharon advised that on the night a 30'th birthday party was scheduled and she was concerned the noise would be an issue. Sharon had booked us into a B&B very adjacent and we were not disappointed with our accommodation. The tariff at the B&B was higher but Sharen made up the difference. We returned and had drinks at the Star and were not disappointed. Although we did not stay there on the basis of our experience I would advise people to consider this friendly pub in a beautiful market town.

Tucked away just upside the town centre, this unobtrusive pub could be missed. Have not eaten there, but it is a quaint pub run by a very efficient and friendly lady, Sharon. A variety of entertainment is on offer Depending on the day of the week. I have been there a handful of times and the warm and friendly service has always been the same. There is a tiny garden at the back - access at the moment is difficult but I have heard that they are undergoing some renovations to improve certain areas of the pub. Definitely recommend it.

My Sister Hilary and I stayed at the Star for a long weekend in early September, As old Romsonions we grew up knowing the names of all the pubs in Romsey, many are now sadly gone but the Star has been on the corner of Cherville St. and the Horsefair since we were small children and looks exactly the same from the outside as it did nearly 70 years ago. We had a lovely stay, the rooms were spacious and clean the beds comfortable and the food delicious. Sharon and her family could not have been kinder or more helpful. If you are in Romsey at lunch time on Sunday ,they serve the best ,really home made roast lunch for miles around Hils and Mary

Adequate for a one night stay. Staff were most welcoming and helpful. The check-in with the corporate IT system proved problematic. It refused to take my visa card(s) - 3, and we eventually paid by cash. The staff were excellent, and service was also first class.

The food at Pink Olive was absolutely delicious. I had the King Prawn Karai and my girlfriend had the Lamb Bhuna - both cooked perfectly and packed plenty of flavour!! Paired with a Naan Bread, Pilau Rice, Saag Paneer and Bombay Potatoes this was an all out feast with no skimping on the portions from the kitchen and everything tasted delicious. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and the all-round experience was great! If you want to go for an Indian or get a takeaway curry I would highly recommend.
