We had our bijou wedding (25 guests) across the street at All Saints Church and plumped for The Swan Inn as our reception venue (we lived in the area previously and loved it). It is a cosy and delightful place, a true ‘local’ with plenty of character. Annie and Stefan and their team truly made the dinner special, providing fresh flowers and nibbles in addition to scrummy food. Our guests were very well looked after! The back room/restaurant is absolutely perfect for an intimate ‘do. Many thanks!

We were looking for a place to stop for dinner traveling up the A303 and thought we'd give the Swan Inn a try. The atmosphere in the pub was welcoming. We were served promptly and hospitably. We shared a fried brie for starter which was very tasty. I then had a lovely fish pie for main course. It was a good alternative to stopping at one of service stations on the A303 and not a big detour.

Can't recommend this pub highly enough, all the staff are super friendly, the french chef is excellent and often has interesting and tasty specials to compliment the main menu, the real ale is always on point, my particular favorite is the Saxon Bronze by Alfred's Brewery in Winchester. The Swan Inn in Barton Stacey is a beautiful country village pub - a hidden gem. I’d not visited for three years and returned yesterday with my partner for lunch yesterday on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We sat in the garden enjoying our drinks and watched the world go by before tucking into a delicious ploughman’s lunch. We don’t live in Hampshire (hence the long gap since my last visit) but I know we will return, hopefully sooner rather than later next time. Highly recommended as it’s easy to get to and is set in a beautiful English village.

This is a great pub and we were made to feel very welcome. The owner was very friendly and helped us out massively as we were after food but they stopped serving lunch at 2.30. he suggested going next door to the local shop and getting something and then if we wanted we could eat it in the pub as it was raining. We took him up on his offer and are very thankful for it. We got drinks and some crisps to go with the sandwich we got and stayed for a few minutes. The atmosphere was perfect for a little country pub and there were magazines with what was going on in the village. Would be coming back next time we are in the area.

Stopped here on the way back from Cornwall - great find just off the beaten track and ideal to be just at the start of the M3. Very friendly welcome (I am guessing not any book as we were greeted by name outside!) and the food was just what we needed - we only had paninis but others meals looked great. Very much an independent local pub - but all the better for it.

The Swan is full of character as a very old building and the landlady is delightful. Three of us had booked to have the Mother’s day three course lunch. The soup was home made, hot and delicious served with bread and butter on the side. We had ordered roast chicken which came with sprouts, roast potatoes, parsnip, red cabbage, green cabbage, swede and carrot, as well as stuffing balls and gravy. Delicious The dessert we’d chosen was fruit crumble accompanied by a small pot of fruit purée. With drinks to start and coffee after the meal we’d enjoyed a lavish lunch. Compliments to the chef and the lovely staff who served us.

We live locally, so our local is The Swan, and we use it lots. But today's review is about the crafternoon they offer once a month. I am a keen crafter and this gives me the opportunity to meet with like minded crafters for an afternoon of fun. Today was one of those afternoons. We had a superb lunch and every meal chosen was well received. The chicken caesar salad was delicious, but it beat me with the portion size! Steve took our orders and it was extremely friendly service, accomodating all the requirements. Jonah was our server throughout most of the service and this was exceptional, always with a smile and ensuring everything was OK. He checked regularly that everyone was happy, and that we all had everything we needed. I asked for a lime and soda, without too much lime and it arrived perfectly. Our table was cleared efficiently, enabling us to spend the rest of the afternoon getting on with our craft projects and chatting amongst ourselves. A super afternoon, thank you Team Swan.

The absolute cutest pub with such friendly staff!! We had come away for a 1 year wedding anniversary celebration and were staying at nearby Norton Park Hotel and Spa. I emailed to book a table and received a response back really quickly confirming it was all booked We were able to ride our bikes which was great as those steep hills built up our appetite. This is what I would call a transitional roast…proper home cooked food. Portion size was generous and everything tasted amazing! I had the nut roast and my husband had the beef. Both absolutely divine. Pudding was also equally amazing. The staff are lovely and so friendly and down to earth…and I have to give a shout out to the resident dog Roudie (Roo) who was just an absolute babe. You must not feed him though as he has allergies. The way he runs around following his mumma with his little bell on…melted my heart! 💖💖💖 If you are visiting locally pay this lovely pub a visit as you won’t be disappointed in anyway. We often visit this village pub when traveling on A303 to the West. It is our third visit for Sunday Roast which is normally excellent however when we visited on Bank Holiday Sunday 28th May they didn't offer a roast lunch because the weather was warm but instead offered delicious Salads and a small alternative menu. I do not often write but I noted that someone had a bad roast dinner on the same day in the evening which is a bit weird as their kitchen always closes after lunch and they don't serve food in the evening on a Sunday in fact they close at 8pm. I know this because in the past we have adjusted our travel times to stop there. As always I can not praise them enough, the food is always consistently fresh, tasty, & great value. The staff are always helpful and friendly as are the locals. Well done and keep up the good work. See you in a couple of months

Everyone agreed the food was excellent. Everything is homemade by the superb chef, Stefan. Sadly not enough room for dessert today but I can assure you they are absolutely amazing and will not disappoint. The land lady Ann-Marie and all the staff work incredibly hard to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. One of the worst meals we've had for a long time! For starters, their lunchtime menu was limited to ploughman's or ham egg and chips! The special which 2 of our party had was supposed to be a steak pie. It could have been a Fray Bentos tinned pie for all I knew! The meat was gristly and the pastry was stodgy, the veg was hard! Two of our party had a dessert ice cream and a sorbet. They nearly broke their spoons, (not to mention their teeth) as it was frozen absolutely solid! Two of our party had the ploughman's which consisted of about a quarter of a white loaf, cheese and pickles - no presentation to it at all. The only one of us who had a decent meal, was the one who picked the ham egg and chips, that was OK. The worst part came at the end when we asked for the bill, for that load of junk we were charged over £150 for 1 egg and chips, 2 pies and mash, and 2 ploughman's, plus 2 ice creams and a moderate amount of drinks! Needless to say we will NOT be going back there again. I just don't understand it, as we've been there several times in the past and it's been fine. My wife looked at their website menu, but nowhere did it say that Saturday lunchtime would have a limited menu! Reply to Landlord It should not have been necessary to point out the shortcomings of your menu and the quality of your "food", it ought to be second nature for you to do your best! Your customers ARE your business!

We stopped in here for lunch to break up our long drive to to the South West Coast. The service was friendly and the food was good. I'm sure it is very cosy in the winter months in the big chairs by the fire

We had a buffet provided by The Swan after a memorial. The choice was brilliant especially for veggies. Comments were made about how tasty & delicious the food was. The landlady & her staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Can’t praise this lovely village pub enough and it’s only downside is it is too far from my home to be my local. My sons wedding was taking place in a venue nearby and we wanted somewhere to meet up with friends who were travelling...

Lovely food, really nice vibe. Log fire was burning and dog friendly. Quirky decor and fun pub slogans! Very reasonable prices & staff were attentive and very friendly. Would recommend! 😊

A friend and I meet somewhere in the middle for lunch ocassionally. We visited this pub and I have to say, I had the best pub burger I have ever had! It was absolutely brilliant. I still think about it now, even though our visit was a couple of months ago. Surely that deserves a 5 star review. I had to do it. A splended place to visit. Lovely atmosphere. Great food (as mentioned). One of those Pubs us Brits refer to as a 'good pub' and mean it's a 'fantastic pub' but we dont like to make them big headed.

A real gem in the countryside, this pub offers a good selection of meals. They obviously have pride in their food, perfectly presented and very nicely made. Plenty of parking and a really attractive traditional English pub. Highly recommended

Recommended by my family living locally who visit regularly. So we did. Quite quirky we loved that! Bar area and separate eating. Ordered mackerel pate on toast (homemade) & mushrooms on toast both were delicious. Coffee was pretty good not too strong. My sister had a smiley face on her latte… I was envious but promised it would be my turn next visit 😂 Mike the owner was lovely very friendly and knew our cousins. My sister & I will make this our go to place as I live in Surrey & she in Hants. A good midway point to meet. We both have fond memories of Romsey as children. So see you in a couple of weeks time & there after > 👍
