Three Horseshoes Inn & Restaurant in Staffordshire Moorlands

Firstly, all the staff were friendly, helpful and polite, they are an asset to the restaurant. Good customer service, so fair praise where it's due. I'd taken my Mum to the Three Horseshoes for lunch and we saw that lots of other customers chose the carvery so it's clearly a popular option, but it didn't look very appetising with boiled carrots and peas and grey stuffing. Although to be fair, a carvery always reminds me of school dinners, so I'm not a fan anyway. We chose a couple of dishes from the main menu - lasagne and butterfly chicken breast, both served with side salad & chips. The chips and salad were fine, but the main meals were only average. The mince in the lasagne wasn't good quality, so for that reason we are unlikely to return. There are many other pubs offering better quality food. We declined desserts and just had coffee. One minor irritation was that after making my booking online for 1pm, I received a confirmation email informing me that we must vacate our table by 2.15pm! In the event, there were still plenty of available tables at lunchtime and no one hurried us, but as our food didn't arrive until 1.40pm, the short time slot we were allocated seemed rather unreasonable! However, we didn't mind the wait for food as it usually means that it's freshly cooked, which it was. Overall a mixed experience.

We were surprised how average the carvery was for a place with such a good reputation for weddings etc. We have had meals there in the past from the menu and they were excellent. Unfortunately we won't return again, very poor value and little choice in veg. Carrots, peas and cabbage ! Even the Carrots had nearly run out, so lacking a bit of supervision. Go for other pubs in the area for a better experience

Called in twice this week, Monday evening and Sunday afternoon. Got a table easily and food served within 10mins both times. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is superb.

Just returned from a lovely stay at the three horseshoes country Inn &Spa, hotel was lovely and the outdoor area stunning, food was excellent and what especially stood out was Deborah on reception , who took the time and went out of her way, to help us, she was great. It was our anniversary and it lovely, deffo recommend a stay here, the steak was gorgeous!

We called in late Friday afternoon for a drink and some food. Lovely pub, nicely decorated inside and was definitely giving those ‘country’ vibes. There was a wedding on and they did struggle a little behind the bar as I think everyone arrived at once. The food and the drinks were lovely, we had sandwiches and chips from the lunch menu and the bread was so soft and so fresh! Delicious. And the service was great too! We would come here again :)

The pork belly starter and the garlic flatbread starter were amazing! Brilliant flavour however the noodles with the pork were cold but we thought that’s just how it was supposed to be. Our starters came out before our drinks and the drinks already had half melted ice in them. My partner had a beef burger. When it arrived the bottom of the bun was soggy and he was never asked how he would like the burger to be cooked. Came out well done which is great if that’s your thing. I had the off the bone tikka masala which was nice. Good amount of chicken, flat bread was great dipping in the sauce but I found there was too much rice. Personal preference. We really wanted to stay for dessert because the menu looked great but after average food, not the best service we decided against it. The service was quick but we waited 20 minutes to finally pay after receiving the bill, our waiter was very young which isn’t a problem but the whole restaurant seemed to be run by very young people which gave the impression that not a lot of them new what they were doing. The environment of the restaurant was lovely! Which was what made us decide to go there. Lovely views, loads of space, loved how the restaurant was separate to the bar too. I would book in advance as a couple before us got told the kitchen was closed when they arrived but as we walked in after them we got shown straight to our table as we booked beforehand!

Called in for a carvery after having a lovely day out in bakewell, we were starving ! the pub was very busy yet we still managed to get seated in a cosy corner. we ordered our carvery they gave us a buzzer thing and told us to go to the carvery station when it went off, we thought this may be some while but it wasn't only took about 10 minutes. the food was lovely and unlike other carveries we have been we actually got given proper thick slices of meat. and help yourself to Yorkshire puddings. the food was a good temp and tasted nice, if I had to make one complaint it would probably be lack of choice of veg thought just having peas carrots n cabbage was a bit stingy for what we paid why gave 4 and not 5 stars however we would go again we did enjoy it.

Very disappointed, not a warm welcome in the place, cannot see us returning during our holiday. We called in on a warm sunny afternoon for a quiet beer or two in the shade. No welcome at the bar, no 'can I direct to our"beautiful terraced beer garden" '. A pint of beer pulled when she could be bothered to drag herself away from her computer screen. We shall not be back.

One of the most scenic places to eat or have a beer, the views are absolutely stunning. The food is excellent, staff also very good. It’s all here for a great time with the family. Thank you we will be back

I went for dinner solo last night. The bar area was lovely and I didn’t feel awkward dining alone. There food was really good, the lasagna especially something I’d recommend. Though the Eaton mess arctic roll was also lovely. There was a wedding on in the function room who were using the main bar, some of the guests were quite drunk and loud so it made it hard to get served.

Spa day - fabulous day! Very pleased, all the staff on reception were very friendly, easy and efficient check in, we were then taken down to our spa attendant I believe her name to be Leanne, she was very thorough and gave us a great amount of information on the spa and it’s facilities, she was very attentive throughout our time in the spa and available to answer questions etc Clean and modern spa, great treatments, lovely view

We had a lovely time in both the spa and the restaurant. Lisa looked after us and was exceptional. I left my charger in the room and she even organised to get it back to us. Thanks again guys

We booked the "stay and dine" package to celebrate a family birthday and had a really good experience. Rooms were well presented, clean and comfortable. Our meal was very enjoyable, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Micheala and her team, particularly Ruby and Ashleigh, went out of their way to look after us and make my mum's birthday meal special. We also really enjoyed their lovely patio with its glorious view of the Roaches. This was our first visit and we'll definitely be back.

We ( my husband and myself) called in for lunch, I opted for the senior lunch, my husband had the meat pie. The pie looked, and I’m told tasted great, the roast beef I had tasted great too, I can’t say the same about the presentation however. When it arrived it was - beef, Yorkshire pudding, a large blob of mash and a couple of roast potatoes all swimming in so much gravy it was spilling over the sides of the plate. Do they think that senior citizens don’t matter when it come to presentation, the taste was lovely but I felt insulted by the lack of care.

Booked an early table for 5 of us for dinner. We were told to order drinks via the app which on previous visits didn’t always work and was not the quickest and easiest app to use. You need to enter all your details each time you order a drink. Asked the manager if we could order via the staff. Response was - “you can now but not later when we are busy”. So basically telling us they won’t be serving us when they get busy. Not the response any of us expected from any hospitality establishment. All through the evening staff were pushing other customers to order drinks via the app. The table beside us had to ask for their drinks twice after using the app only to be told the app doesn’t always work. Looks like management hasn’t sorted the app problems. Irony is the app asked if you wanted to leave a tip! We were very promptly presented with the bill within seconds of the dessert plates being cleared. Waitress then came promptly back saying “can you pay now?” and pushed the card machine to us. This approach of wanting us to leave and wanting the table back is simply rude. You could have just said you needed the table back and we would have been more than happy to oblige. Sadly we will leave it a while before returning. It’s a shame as we like the place and have visited a few times in the last month. Looks like the establishment would rather build their business on new customers staying in their spa rather then returning customers.

Visited midweek evening for dinner. Very quiet, a handful of other tables, so more staff than guests. Not attentive at all - we were walked passed by 3 staff members who said nothing - not very welcoming! When we were shown to our table, it was in a nice dog friendly area. The service was efficient but cold- no interaction other than to give our order and take our money.Meals are a little on the sparse side - gammon steak was just that with a quarter of a pineapple chunk, over-cooked fried egg and a handful of chips with a nominal few leaves. Would it be that difficult to to add some colour - maybe half a grilled tomato - it was not cheap! The steak pie was OK, tender meat but lacking any real flavour.The Prava lager had a cleaning product after taste- perhaps the solutions used to clean the pumps need to be more thoroughly washed through. Would not target to rush back but maybe go just for a drink.

Dreadful website for ordering. Staff were brilliant sorting out the appalling clunky on line ordering system. It meant meals had to arrive sequentially. Clearly listening to the staff the boffins are not hearing there's a problem.

Wow. The staff are fantastic. The food is the style of food you would want in a Gastro Pub.... IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR COVID SECURE this place is amazing. They give you the “night out at a pub” feel whilst being very secure. Come here. Enjoy. You’re safe. Excellent!!!

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Three Horseshoes. We booked through secret escapes. The dinner bed and breakfast package was very good value. Paid extra for a spa afternoon and again that was lovely. Staff were very friendly in Spa, reception and restaurant. Felt very safe in the current climate and their covid secure processes are excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and their facilities, it was a very wonderful mini holiday

Had a few trips here whilst staying locally, it's a lovely location with great views over The Roaches. On a sunny day, the beautiful back garden area is a great place to chill out over a couple of beers. We also are here a couple of times and the food was good rather than great and it's not the cheapest place to eat. Probably worthwhile but don't expect fancy cuisine.

We have just visited the Three Horseshoes and what an excellent experience it was. From start to finish ! The staff were very attentive without being over the top. Drinks order was taken and within 2 mins they arrived. We had starters which were delicious and then had the carvery ! Very Covid safe and fabulous at that. Pud was again lovely. I could not find anything to fault on this lovely Sunday afternoon! Keep the good work up guys. You are doing an absolutely amazing job !! Xx

After a long walk on the Roaches we decided to pop in for food. The inflated prices suggested that the food would be top notch. After half an hour we were brought two meals on child sized plates that had clearly been pre-prepared and microwaved. We were then brought the veg, which was a side plate sized portion that included a carrot and cabbage covered in melted cheese which had also been microwaved. After about two minutes of disbelief we asked where the rest of the veg was and they said that was all we had between two people. We requested more and they reluctantly brought another portion just before we finished. This time it was a small piece of brocoli and cabbage covered in some sort of sloppy white goo.The roast potato's were rock hard and completely dry after being microwaved, the portion sizes were a joke, the stuffing was like slime and the gravy had clearly congealed and dried out before being reheated. Coincidentally, we were both ill with upset stomachs after eating this slop!Dreadful! Avoid at all costs!

Oh what a shame! We were looking forward to our stay at the Three Horseshoes but unfortunately we have been very disappointed. Our room backs onto the outside spa and we were woken early whilst people cleaned. All the time we have been in our room we have heard people talking loudly outside our window in the spa area. We have had to have the window open because the room is so hot and doesn’t have aircon.We had to preorder our food. Yesterday at dinner we had to wait over an hour for our starters .. prawn cocktail and pate, despite pre ordering. This evening we arrived 20 minutes early but were told our table was not yet ready. We ordered a drink at the bar but could not find anywhere to sit as all the tables (the majority empty) had reserved signs... so we sat on a reserved table. I don’t quite know what they expected us to do when they said we could not go to our table? It goes from bad to worse. My partner ordered soup and it tasted burnt. We then had pie and a roast. The pie was served with raw, cold kale. We returned it but it came back and was still cold. I had a roast .. I asked for beef, but was served beef, pork and turkey? The yorkshire was flat and undercooked, the mash was solid and the roast potatoes were soggy. Need I go on? Oh yes my partners triple fried chips were limp and covered in fat. We are supposed to be eating lunch tomorrow but are seriously considering not to bother. The location is brilliant and it is a shame that the restaurant lets it down.

It was the worst afternoon tea I've ever had. I brought 'Afternoon Tea for 2 with Bubbles' for £50 through BuyaGift as a gift for my mom.Firstly, on the Three Horseshoes website it states that their individual price for afternoon tea with bubbles is £19pp, a total of £38 for two. Not £50 which was the value of the voucher. Obviously there was a choice of many locations but my mom chose this location as it was one of the closest to home and we knew of a few people who have got married here.The service was awful, the food was even worse, the venue itself was lovely but definitely not the place for afternoon tea. We arrived and we could already see the food waiting on the side (uncovered) in the restaurant, for all to see/touch. Not only was the food going dry and stale sitting there uncovered but there was several flies flying around too, which made the fact the food was uncovered even worse!I had tried to call ahead 8+ times to tell them that I was a vegetarian, but there was no answer. So on arrival I informed the woman who greeted us. Which then I was eventually presented with homous on bread. Nothing more, nothing less. It tasted awful and I did not eat it.The sandwiches themselves were not 'finger sandwiches' as stated on their website. They were stale, half cut up slices of bread. We had 4 each, with rationed fillings in all the others, my mom also didn't eat all of hers. The scones were huge, dry mounds. Served with 'clotted cream' and 'fruit preserve', more like cheap tasteless jam. As for the service, the woman who greeted us was not the most friendly, she sat us at the table and asked if we would like coffee or tea and then she never returned after that. There were another two members of staff who were very friendly but again never returned to the table once they had given us our food/drink. At one stage I had to get up to go and find someone to ask if we could have more jam as they appeared to be rationing that out too. No one came to ask if everything was ok or if we would like anymore drinks. Also, from where we were sitting we could see the woman who greeted us and another member of staff, standing in the open restaurant area eating food whilst serving, which I don't believe would be considered as following Covid guidelines as they're touching food to their mouth and then serving other customers. I have also never been to a restaurant where it's acceptable for staff to eat, especially with their hands whilst working - even before Covid restrictions came into place.The list goes on with the issues we had with this place, and it certainly wasn't worth £50 or even £38 as advertised via their website... Complete waste of money and time.

We stayed at this hotel and had to order our meal hours before dinning. Considering that others could come into the restaurant and then order I found this very poor. The food was nothing to write about I certainly wouldn't book to eat there again. Yes there were 'social distancing' measures in place but to be expected bok in advance the meal .......

We where staying in the caravan and motorhome club campsite Saturday 29th of August 5 minutes away from the pub. We pre booked a table for 2 at 6:30pm, We got there on time and had our dog waiting in the car as we had read that we could not take dogs in the restaurant. We where put in the Function room witch was very outdated compared to the lovely pub setting that we thought we were booking. We ordered our starters and mains at 6:35 And by 7 the people behind us that come after us had had there meals. We had to ask 2 people one at 7:30 and one at 7:40 that we had not yet had our starters then we were told that our order had not ever been put through. They apologised and rushed our order through. We were so hungry when the food finally come out we eat it so fast we couldn’t enjoy as much as we should because we were so hungry. While we where waiting we had 3 rounds of drinks which we wouldn’t normally do. In all bad customer service, no one came to us or realised that there was a problem with our order. We would still be sitting there now if we didn’t say anything. There was no discount given. We would have booked for the Sunday lunch the next day but because of this we did not.

This is rated 4 star by the AA and it does have a certain feel about it that warrants that. The restaurant is comfortable and the food is good. Ample parking and in good weather has a good outside area with lovely views. Overall a good option to either stay or eat.

A fantastic stay once again, beautiful room, lovely friendly staff and wonderful food. Well deserved five stars! Look forward to visiting again.

After being let down at another local eatery we stopped here and hoped they had a free table. We were there around 5.30pm and they were so accommodating even let us bring in our well behaved dog and gave him treats!. Food service started at 6pm and our meals were served 10mins after. Really good COVID systems in place. Friendly staff. We have the supreme chicken and gammon. Absolutely tasty and moist. Thank you so much!

We stayed two nights at the hotel, with a package which included dinner. The first night was very decent (a good 4*) but the second night the food was not as good and the chips were soft and soggy. Sent back once, but not much better second time around! The waiting staff were also brilliant on the first night, not so good on the second. Apparently they have part-time furloughed staff so you either get the A Team or the B Team!

We have just returned from an extremely disappointing meal experience. We booked our meal for 7pm and tried to order at 7.20. I say tried because our first 2 choices were sold out. So no fish & chips, no Seabass. But we were then informed that there would be no hand cooked chips - only frozen fries. We ordered Steak pie with buttered Kale - an then waited 1hr 25 mins for it to arrive. At that point we were told that cabbage had replaced the kale as they’d ran out of that also. At this point we asked to speak to the manager - and can I just say we have never done this at anywhere else previously - the manager said that “ they had a busy lunchtime and sold out of everything “ and “ they did not have enough staff or time to even prepare any more chips “ and “ they didn’t have enough staff working “We understand that Eat out to help out has resulted in busier evenings but as an established restaurant they should be able to cater for pre booked customers and even know the potential Capacity of walk in customers. Needless to say we will never be returning here and nor would we recommend this restaurant to anyone we know.

We visited The Thee Horseshoe’s on Tuesday 28/07. Very well organised with hand sanitiser stations set up throughout the bar and restaurant. The table service, via the app, worked really well and all the serving staff were very good. A credit to the management. Food quality was fantastic with everyone enjoying their meals. Keep up the good work guys. We’re looking forward to coming back again soon.

Amazing meal with family, the first time my wife has ventured out since 17th March so I’m happy she had a great time! Food spot on, and a special shout out to Mark for looking after us. I know things are strange in the industry at the moment, and you can’t compare to time pre Covid, however the Three Horse Shoes have done everything in my opinion to operate a high level of service, great food but safely. Well done and thanks! Great to have you open again, and nice to see you busy. If you’re worried in any way about going out, give the Three horse shoes a change to show you how it can be done. Visiting for evening meal two days after opening again. There is a limited menu but enough to chose from. Prices a little steep especially starters and puddings at £6.95. Have to download App to order however where there are choices on menu they are not on the app e.g sauces with steak or accompaniments with flat bread, so you still have to ask. One way system in place and encouraged to keep distance however staff not 100% vigilant, for example on our way out we had to step aside to let waitress pass as she just walked straight towards us!Starters came without bread for pate or garlic butter for flat bread, had to ask for these! Garlic butter was sour and split so swapped for hummus which was fine. Mains were ok however bun for burger was a little too burnt. Salt was brought and handled by waitress without gloves. Overall a strange and not really relaxing experience. All a little tense on both sides. We totally understand this is all new to us all but it does feel like because customer service cant be ordered on the app it has been forgotten in the new normal!

We stopped at lunchtime after a long walk around Tittesworth Reservoir. We had the Senior Citizens carvery. It was amazing. Good value for £7.95Went back on Thursday night for the steak night 2x steaks and free bottle of wine £30.99The fruit merangue is fabulous. Real fresh fruit and chewy merangue.Wonderful staff and helpful too. Owner also very pleasant. A good family run pub.

Visited on Saturday night as a table of 4 adults and 3 children, it was easily the best meal I have had in a long time.I started with goats cheese croquettes which were very flavoursome and served with a lovely salad including apple and pear, I then had the lamb which was fantastic. My husband had the beef dish which was also excellent, the whole table enjoyed their food, we couldn’t fault any of it (well maybe I’d have preferred the kids sausage & mash to be served with veg but that’s a minor point).Overall a lovely night with great food and service, we will definitely return when staying in the area again.

We stayed 2 nights via a Secret Escapes deal. We had a garden room with hot tub. It was brilliant a bit cold with the snow but very romantic. The deal included the use of spa and the beach hut experience which was different but v good. The food was brilliant, I had wondered if it would be a restricted menu due to the deal, but the choice was fab. Mushroom starter lush and the Beef Skillet amazing. Regarding a pudding definitely can recommend the chocolate brownie. All in all a great few days

After hearing good things we decided to go for lunch. On the whole it was disappointing. The food was average and in the case of the vegetable lasagne very average (veg and a bit of pasta that was luke warm). If I had known that you could be joined by people in dressing gowns from the Spa I would have chosen to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant. There are much better value and nicer places to eat. Will not go back.

Beautiful food,good service and very comfortable.we were a family of six with two young children and were very well looked after.

We had an overnight stay to include an evening meal and then a day in the spa the following day. All of which was perfect. The room and bathroom were beautifully clean, the bed was very comfy and there were lots of nice touches (like the mint imperials). The restaurant although not busy when we dined was very comfy and cosy, lots of candles and a log burner. The food was plentiful and delicious no complaints at all and the service was great, chatty but not in your face. The spa the following day was amazing we really enjoyed our time in there, the beach hut experience was very original and very enjoyable as was the outside hot tub and back massage. All the ladies in the spa were very friendly and helpful and again it was super clean. It’s not a big spa and we were lucky that the day we were there it was fairly quiet so we had plenty of room to sit and enjoy things together. My only niggle and it’s a minor one about the spa was that the robes provided smelled a bit off, like damp washing it was a bit off putting. All in all we had a great time and we’ll probably come back in the summer to enjoy the delicious food and beautiful gardens and outside areas.

We went as a large group to this restaurant and again it did not dissapoint. Good service throughout. Good views. The carvery was also very very good with plenty on offer and cooked to a good standard.

Went today for lunch with friends. What a lovely ambience in the place. Warm and friendly welcome, great service and wonderful food. Portions were large and tasty and the prices were good. Can't wait to return.

We had a great time at Spa by Candlelight, the spa is very clean, really relaxing the facilities are good, and numbers were limited so that you can use everything there. We had a meal after as part of the deal, delicious, and the staff were very accommodating and helpful....I couldn't quite finish the main so it was packaged up for me. Couldn't fault our evening and hope to come back.

A really lovely place. We went midweek for Afternoon Tea. Were seated at a table with a great view over the countryside. The staff were very attentive and the afternoon tea was really good. We’re vegetarians and the choice of finger sandwiches was brilliant. Also offered refills in our coffee pot. Will definitely be going back. A lovely experience

Lovely experience. Rooms and clean and spacious and hot tub decking is a great addition. Staff were all really welcoming, more so than most places I've been. Spa experience was also really nice, don't be afraid of the plunge pool it's envigorating.

Little drive out the village. The restaurant was quit full on the Sunday lunch. The service was good and the food very tasty. Will definitely visit again.

Went in on the off chance of getting food on a Sunday - was able to get a table - was able to get one -

we were staying nearby and went for a pint on a sunday, we noticed how busy it was with walkers etc and the food smelled lovely,so we elected for a sunday roast

Car park large but very busy. Ordered one carvery and one meal from menu. Given buzzer to go up for carvery so food was eaten at same time. Service was incredibly slow. Food a bit disappointing. Probably wont go again.

We had a fabulous stay here. The treatment I had in the spa was amazing One of the best. The staff are lovely and friendly throughout the establishment. Restaurant, bar , spa. And we had a hot tub on the patio of our room which was also lovely. The spa was cleaned and water changed each day Would highly recommend

Good Pub grub with friendly staff and an excellent Spa attached. Had a room with hot tub - very welcome on a cold October evening.

Booked for afternoon tea, evening meal with overnight stay. Afternoon tea was lovely but they let themselves down with the service as we had to find people when we wanted to order more drinks and it took a while to get a response. Evening meal, my sister and I ordered beef lasagne. It arrived looking a bit black but after we tasted it we could not eat it. It tasted like a tub of mixed herbs had been tipped in. The staff offered another meal but there was nothing else we wanted to order. ( no discount applied for the meals we could not eat.) We were a party of 6 and the others said the pie and fish were nice. We had rooms which were over the event room with a wedding going on. There was a paper saying there may be a bit of noise with people coming from the wedding but nothing about the loud music until 1am. My room was very nice and spacious but I had no sleep as I was freezing cold. On check out I was told I should have let them know and they may have been able to rectify, but at 2am I wasn’t going to as I was on my own.
