Have been meeting here every 3 months with a group and they keep impressing me with their fantastic menu and service. Fantastic quality.

A great place out in the countryside. A small menu, but everything is cooked to perfection. The service is attentive but not intrusive. All in all, I couldn’t fault anything at all.

Delicious food, beautifully presented. Really lovely dining area and friendly staff. Toby the dog was a sweetie.

Five stars for The Three Horseshoes Pub! Their food is consistently of amazing quality, complemented by outstanding service every time I visit. The well-kept, beautiful garden adds to the charm of dining here, especially in the summer. A must-visit for anyone seeking great food in a lovely atmosphere.

It’s a really strange fascinating place. We enjoyed the building, nice country pub atmosphere, great service, although a little too formal for my taste. The food is a bit… pretentious. Maybe I’m just uncultured, but sous vide chicken breast is really bad. Horrible texture, zero flavour, the sear was I presume chicken skin? The traditional dishes I’m sure are a lot better, but not to justify their cost being higher than a good gastro. The desert menu I feel needs more of the classics. I loved the carrot cake (roll) tasted amazing, tiny portions. The pistachio ice cream, awful. I love pistachio ice cream, that was pure salt. Anyway, the rest of the experience was nice.

Just stopped by for a quick drink and the staff were super friendly. Nice beer garden and very clean. 01/01/24 - My wife and I were going to pop to our local for a bit of New Year's Day lunch, but they decided not to open. So we called The Three Horseshoes to see if we could get a table for two, which they were able to squeeze us in. Well, all I can say is what a great decision to go, the food was outstanding and the staff were just as friendly and attentive as the last time we visited. If you are looking for a cosy country pub with a great menu and super service you need look no further. Although we managed to get a table today, I would recommend you book.

Love this place as it never disappoints!

We have been there twice now and the food and service on both occasions was outstanding. We will certainly be recommending it to others.

Brilliant 👏 fitted us in last minute too. The guys all said they had best Xmas burger ever and it was amazing. I had fish and chips the fish was beautiful and tasted so yummy. Great random find after a day out with friends.

Had a delicious dinner, and the service is friendly and attentive. We had our toddler daughter with us too and they were very accommodating.

Gorgeous little pub. Staff are super friendly and helpful, food is tasty, good drink selection and lovely large garden in the back. Plus it’s dog friendly! Definitely recommend a visit :)

Amazing little gem of a place. Such a cute family run establishment, all of the staff are so attentive and friendly. Makes you feel at home! We had a raspberry lemonade which was gorgeous!! Little nibble of sourdough and chilli butter, again amazing! The roast, amazing! I went for the beef and it was incredible. When you get cauliflower cheese on the plate without asking, that’s when you know it will be good! It was also my birthday and they bought me out a mini cake out. Can’t wait to return!! Cannot thank George enough for his attentiveness :)

Our first time here for a birthday celebration. The food was amazing and the service was superb. We were really well looked after by Sam and his mum and their dog Toby. Their detailed knowledge of the dishes and wines really helped when making our choices from the menu. Definitely coming back.

A warm welcome and lovely place to eat with excellent attentive staff however the portion sizes were too small. Food on the whole was tasty and beautifully presented, but just not enough of it and felt expensive for what you got.

We sat outside, with blankets, very snug. Tomato soup amazing as was our whole meal. Excellent service 👏

A group of four of us went for a Sunday roast and it was genuinely one of the best I’ve had! The fireplace was whirring inside to give the place a superb atmosphere, the service was excellent - better than most places these days, it was great value for money. You can’t go past the ragu mushroom for starters (chefs kiss), the chateaubriande for main and a wine to go with it from the gorgeous selection

Second visit for lunch. Both times we were blown away by the quality of the meal and service. The fish dishes are particularly amazing. Best restaurant in colchester by some margin. Looking forward to returning.

For the money we paid, we thought the food was mediocre at best.

Food was lovely but portion sizes did not justify the price, especially £10 for a mouthful of cheese mousse.

Sat outside the coffee shop and enjoyed a delightful cold drink whilst waiting for the breakdown recovery. The lady served us whilst chatting and making us feel welcome. Even came out and offered us iced water to keep us cooled off down. Beautiful gardens and hope to return for a proper meal as looked so inviting. Thank you for your kindness on what was an unlucky day for the auld motor.

I remember when it was one horseshoe!!!!

Lovely, old English pub. Exposed beams, low ceilings (mind your head) but all adds to the atmosphere. Food was very good with some unusual tweeks to the dishes that made them all the more interesting and delicious. Service was excellent 👌 and friendly.

A lovely warm welcome. The staff are cheerful, friendly and very accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. My partner was particularly happy with the great selection of lagers.

So pleased to be living in a village with a decent pub! Prices are on the dear side but the presentation and food are exquisite. Perfect for a fancy night out and lovely, cosy atmosphere.

We came as a family for lunch with our dog. All of us loved it, though our dog did not get to try the truly excellent food. Pleasant service, for me as the driver decent (very) low alcohol beer. We will return.

Previously had croissants in the little shed next to the pub. The hot chocolate and croissants is very good. Have not tried the food at the pub.

Had a fabulous lunch here today, had the cod in chicken butter which was so delicious I had to ask for more sauce as it tasted sooo good!!! Very friendly people that work there, really enjoyed the whole experience

Fine. Lovely food . Well cooked , nicely presented and pleasing to the eye. Wine and beer selection is on a par with the food. Staff and service are pleasant and professional. My one and only observation is the single door at the main entrance . A busy thoroughfare ( in and out and for the loos) The spring in the top door mech is faulty and consequently the door was slamming shut when used. We were seated at it ! Slam,slam,slam,slam,slam,slam,slam! Not enough to put me off going again,but an area that I would ask not to sit at.

We called in here on a Thursday midday. The staff were fantastic, they found us a table and welcomed our dog. The service was friendly and first rate and our meals were stunning and beautifully presented.

Great family owned gastro pub. Limited but imaginative menu, but with all meals prepared from scratch to order this is logical. Always well presented and cooked to a high standard. Superb service. We are now regulars here.

Best food I've ever had from anywhere thoroughly enjoyed it had the chicken it was juicy and suculant through out and even my uncle who thinks he is a wine expert ate every bit of his dinner lovely environment and well trained staff

Shocking service A Pint of Cokacola and ice accidentally spilled all over me Weak apologies and JUST paper towel “Action” Told It will dry out ok Uncomfortable meal ( due to Coke wetness ). Proprietor I think embarrassed..? No offer of dry cleaning etc No reduction or complementary drinks JUST A PLUS 10% SERVICE CHARGE… Uncomfortable situation, With just “ see you later” Upon departure I certainly don’t think you will

Today my friend and I were looking forward to her birthday celebration lunch at this 'pub' We researched the lunch menu which was on line, and were looking forward to our cold plate. However we were told it finished yesterday even though it is still on the on-line menu this evening, We were advised to have a sandwich with fries which would be ok for what we wanted.. OMG! It was the greasiest heaviest plate of "food" I have ever been persuaded for a substitute, We couldn't finish it, most unusual for us. Why do pubs not keep to their advertised promises and serve lighter lunches, we don't all want a heavy/fatty carb-filled meal. So we were charged £60 for 2 sandwiches, a couple of drinks and a bottle of water and to add insult to injury a "discretionary" 10% service charge. Won't go there again.

Great find, lost in the country roads when we stumbled upon this place, we weren't booked, but the owner accommodated us at short notice, great food ,service & staff

Just came across the pub by chance after a morning of Paddleboarding on the STOUR and had a plowman’s meal each. Very good service, delicious lunch with really pleasant staff. We are definitely coming back very impressed 😁👍

Just got back from my bicycle ride, my friend & I stopped here for a bit of carrot cake & coffee. Lots of comfy seating outside which was nice 👍🏻 The carrot cake was amazing, we will definitely be stopping here again for some more cake - 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Very tasty food, however my food was only lukewarm, portions quite small , bordering on london prices in a village location.

Our first indoor pub meal since restrictions were relaxed. Great food (excellent burger in particular), friendly service and a lovely pub puppy! What's not to like!?

despite the grey wether we had a great time a the three horseshoes ! the food was highly thought after. It's a real experience to eat there ! and the staff is very nice ! we'd come back without esitation !

Took a group of friends here, beautiful delicious food, exceptional service and very attentive to our needs. Even the rain didn’t dampen the experience.

Over priced for the portions of food

Amazing welcome as soon as you arrive. Very personable hospitality from all of the team. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff and they treated every guest like family! Loads of smiles from people dining or just popping in for a coffee or a drink in the garden. Beautiful scenery - a perfectly idealic village garden with views of the church. Not forgetting the food! I had 2 desserts after a very generous sized Sunday roast - 10/10 to thr culinary team and if you are there on a Sunday you must try the lamb! Dog and children friendly! Felt very covid safe too! Am looking forward to returning with more friends and family this year!

Friday night out, lovely seating in the garden , excellent food, excellent wine selection, all locally sourced produce, friendly and efficient service. Under CV19 restrictions - they doing a great job! We do wish them well!

We had a takeaway Sunday Roast for Easter, it was top quality. The beef was melt in the mouth and cooked perfectly and the potatoes and veggies were roasted perfectly, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Can't wait for the indoor dining to open again. We also tried the deli sausage rolls which are incredible with chunks of glazed apple inside.

Great food and great service with a smile

I've only been able to sample takeaway coffee and cake, but both were very good (superb lemon drizzle cake!). Pleasant service.

While out on one of my recent walks, l had a very good take away lunch from this pub. I would recommend the marmite cheese twists and the rhubarb custard tarts.

The three horse shoes is my favourite pub and I refuse to go anywhere else! Hehe, never had a bad experience here and would recommend to anyone! The staff, food and atmosphere is amazing and everyone who works there does a fantastic job! Thank you three horse shoes for the best pub in the world x

Good selection of food and drinks.We had no complaints at all regarding the service.Well done all concerned.We will return. This is a follow-up to our last visit.Service still good but the food no so good had the chowder bad choice where was the seafood for a dish costing over 15 pounds.Sorry to say bad experience will not return.I will have to remove three stars from my original visit

The food was great. However service was very slow even though not that busy, it's a shame I have visited before and it was perfect. Maybe I cought them on an off day, it will not deter me trying again.

Very friendly staff to both us and our dog, decent beers on tap and likewise with the wine. Very charming inside and the open fire is always a hit. Certainly coming back again in the near future.

If you want to go to a truly country pub where as soon a go in, you feel welcome and can relax next to an open fire, this is the place for you. Lovely people and fantastic food. Will definitely be going back.
