An amazing historic building from 1700s, it is more like a cultural museum for Garstang than a pub. We were looked after by Ali (Alison?). We had a mushroom bourgunion pie, mac& cheese and some of the local alcoholic beverages. Good portions. Ali informed me that it gets very busy during the warmer days due to it's prime location. Clean throughout, a place to take your children to get them interested in history and learning. Pets are treated like VIPs. I would recommend.

Traditional real English bar. Dark, cool people and good whiskey. In the front part you can eat and even celebrate birthdays or other parties. The toilet facility was extremely clean. For summer or warm days there is a large terrace with a view of the canal with all the houseboats. A visit is a “must”.

Disappointing visit. Other reviews seemed good so we wanted to try the place and menu looked good. We reserved a table but on arrival we weren't told whether it was table or bar service. When we went to the bar to ask we were told it was table service but they were busy, so we would be best ordering at the bar. When we went to order we were told there were no steaks (it was 6.30pm), so not a good start. I asked about bar snacks and was told they are only served on week days...the online menu didn't say this. Large table near us were complaining they hadnt had their order so after waiting over 30 mins for our garlic bread starter I asked if we could cancel our order. Told that our order was ready and they brought it out altogether, no option for the starter. The food was good but at no point did anyone cone over to us to ask if we were OK or happy with the food. Didn't feel welcome or valued as a customer so probably wouldn't come here again, which is a shame when the food is good.

Visited today (10.03.25) at 14.30. We have been to Th'Owd Tithe Barn quite number of times over the last few years, we've noticed it gradually "going downhill" with regard to the food - the quality is getting poorer, the quantity is getting less, but the prices keep going up ! Today, on the way back from Lancaster we decided to try it again - it was a nice sunny day & it's in a sheltered location beside the Marina, so we decided to soak up a bit of sun with a beer & have a meal - hoping the food had improved since our last visit. I went to the bar & got a couple of beers, & asked when they were doing food up to. I was told by the lady serving me - "no problem, last orders for food at 8pm". We sat outside, happily relaxing in the sun - went back to the bar to order food just after 3pm & was told - "sorry, the kitchen is closed, we only have one chef on early in the week". I explained that we'd been told that we could order until 8pm & that it would have been helpful if we'd been told that the kitchen would be closed for an hour or more from 3pm -- not even an apology for the misinformation ! It might seem that I'm being overly critical here, but I have a medical condition that requires that I eat regularly - at (pretty) set times - it's not actually that unusual a condition" -- If we'd been told when we first arrived that the kitchen would be closed within the next 1/2 hour we'd have ordered immediately -- or gone somewhere else ! We'll probably call in again for a beer (if we're allowed after this review !) - but certainly won't bother with food again !

Seems to have been going steadily downhill for the past few years. We've been going there quite often for over 5 years, but have noticed a consistent decline in the food -- quality getting worse, quantity getting less, prices (always) increasing ! Visited again today (10.03.25) hoping to have a decent meal. Nice sunny day - we thought that a drink / meal by the Marina might be nice - hoping their standards had improved. Sadly we were disappointed (again). Arrived at 14.30, got drinks & asked if they were doing food - was told by the bar lady - "last food orders at 8pm" - so decided to relax in the sun for a while. Went back in to order food at just after 3pm & was told by the manager / owner ? - that the kitchen was shut from 3pm for an hour or more, as they only had one chef on in early weekdays - WHY weren't we told this when I asked about food at 14.30 !! NOT HELPFUL -- I have a medical condition (not an unusual one ) that requires that I eat at regular intervals -- if they'd told me that the kitchen would be shut for the time I was there we would have either ordered immediately - or gone elsewhere. The owners / management need to "get a grip" - otherwise they're going to harm / destroy a great pub, in a lovely location --- a suggestion - start using locally sourced meat / veg products (not cheap frozen, reheated) - & get a GOOD Chef ! This pub could be "right up there" for location, ambience, food & atmosphere -- don't mess up anymore -- great food at a DECENT price will always get you repeat visits -- unlike us - who are wondering if we'll bother visiting again !

Love this place for many reasons , we used to come here years ago when we had a boat moored at the marina so lots of happy memories, these days not much has changed , it’s still a lovely atmospheric and cosy place with a real fire and canalside seating , all the food we have had has been lovely and very well cooked , small or large portions to suit , the roast was best I’ve had in a long time with plenty of lovely veggies crispy spuds and tender beef with crispy Yorkshire pud and lashings of gravy , the staff are all lovely and welcoming from minute you arrive and nothing is too much trouble and muddy boots and wet dogs are all well catered for - the place is amazingly dog friendly to well behaved doggies with bowls , water, treats and rugs all supplied . In short , just fab !

Gorgeous pub/restaurant, very attentive staff upon arrival. 4 of us ordered the pie and paring , Wednesday special, pie and a drink for £16, great value for money, pies were lovely, crisp pastry and filled to busting 😁 Service was very good. The decor is farming inspired, it has you looking and finding different things. The icing on the cake was the HUGE fireplace, with a log burner, keeping us toasty on a chilly night. All in all, we would all definitely return, the menu was very varied with something for most tastes, and all reasonably priced

Experience 10/10 people make a place and let me tell you the land lord and lady of this establishment go the extra mile and rely do make you feel very welcome and as though nothing is a problem. We had an accident with our baby (projectile vomit) honestly what a wonder the land lady was. She swooped in like a grandma and cleaned the whole area and reassured us in a very down to earth warming manner. Something we haven’t experienced anywhere else.. and has left us both feeling cared for and happy for the rest of our day. The food was delightful and the atmosphere welcoming and the decor original like no where else you could visit. Pubs moan about falling trade , but this is an example of why people choose to drink at home rather than be blatantly robbed .

Went on a Saturday early evening, ordered 3 meals, unfortunately all left a lot to be desired. The batter on the fish was dark brown, the garden peas were shriveled and the frozen chips had the taste you get when using old oil. My Rump steak was ok but not great, my peas were slightly less shriveled but the onion rings batter, again over cooked and dark brown. The steak pie was very nice but again let down that there was no alternative to shriveled garden peas and again frozen chips cooked in oil well past its best. I definitely would not be calling this a gastro pub. It's mediocre pub food. The positives about the place are that it is dog friendly and even has a dog station with water bowls, biscuits and blankets that are free to use. It's also a nice location by the edge of the canal which seems to attract a lot of people who go for drinks. Would I go again or recommend it? For drinks in the garden, yes but definitely not for food.

I used to come here fifty years ago as a child with my parents, since we were looking for an eatery en route to the lakes, I suggested Th'Owd Tithe Barn as not being too far out of the way. A beautiful sunny day and plenty of outdoor tables, I was looking forward to it. However, when we arrived we discovered that the kitchen had taken a break as the chef was new and still getting to grips with the menu (least that was what we were told). I was rather disappointed. Working as I do in a service industry I know that information is key in cases where expectation cannot be met. Therefore either offer the full service as per the website, or post on the website temporary kitchen times, or don't offer food until your chef and supply the menu to the stated times. Had I known I would not have made the diversion to go there.

We visited Th’owd Tithe Barn 25/06/2024 as a group of 4, we was really impressed with the quality and portion sizes of food that we received and ordered on the set menu at £17 per person, food was fresh, home made and plated very well (props to the chef) The staff made us feel welcome, they were also very helpful and friendly. Thank you for such a lovely dining experience, we hope to return in the near future.

Booked a table at 6.45 on Sunday 2nd June as we were on a canal boat holiday and it looked like the ideal place next to the canal Less that a warm welcome from a woman who apparently "didn't normally work there" and perhaps was missing the point that if you have booked a table at the end of service the experience should be the same as the beginning. Despite booking a table we pointed in the general direction of tables and told to order at the bar quickly as the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes and we have run out of various menu items. We had an average main course and promptly left. Need less to say as we passed returning on the canal we booked else where, there are many options in Garstang only a few minutes walk away.

Lovely food, great service just had a slight issue with a burnt brownie, burnt black but my nephew didn't complain to me till he had pushed it round his plate. Staff were brilliant but we didn't want another one, had to lose a star for that but that was all.would recommend.

Been here today with my partner and his friend , always go here for food and drinks because we are local , I'm very disappointed in the food that was cooked for us today , normally really nice but today wasn't great at all, my partner had a garlic chicken wrap and let's just say for £9.50 you don't get much chicken. And then I ordered parmasen gargrilled chicken paparpella pasta in white wine sauce the chicken was really dry and it had bones in it , now in my eyes you don't put bones in a pasta dish.

It's a nice place but the food isn't very good. I ordered Louisiana burger with peanut satay sauce and Asian slaw. What I got was a rubbery burger with panko breadcrumbs, tartare sauce and white cabbage. Dessert was a bowl of ice cream with sauce on top and a lotus biscuit, instead of the sundae I ordered. Maybe they'd run out? 🤷‍♀️ I can see why they don't ask you how your meal was when they collect the plates. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't that nice either...and not what I ordered.

Nice rustic pub, ideally located next to the canal. Good food choice and friendly staff. Update; the food on a more recent visit had fallen in standard. The chips were hard and crusty and the kids pizza lacked taste.

Drove into the area to visit family and chose this pub due to its location. The menu was rustic however simple and lacked healthier options. In terms of drinks; diet coke and shandys were our main choices but were quite flat so we were initially dissatisfied. We ordered chicken burgers, steak, steak and ale pie with the option of mash instead of chips and the “healthier” option of the chicken burger which was quoted in the menu to “ditch the bun and swap the chips for salad”. The chicken burgers themselves were appetising but the presentation of them could be improved. The steak and ale pie was delivered to us with chips instead of mash which is not what was asked for, so at this point we were disappointed however didn’t mention this issue to a staff member as we felt it was unnecessary . The “healthier” option of the chicken burger which was to be a chicken salad came as chicken and chips which wasn’t even an item on the menu and so we asked for it to be with the salad that we had asked for and after a long wait we were delivered a bowl with a few lettuce leaves and some slices of cheese - this was extremely substandard and left the individual with disheartened hunger. We then ordered some coffees to finish off the meal but we were then informed that they had run out of milk so had to wait another 10 minutes. Overall the experience was unsatisfactory and we will not be returning.

Excellent pub with tradition feel, dog friendly and looking onto the canal. Well worth a visit food excellent, lots of old style trinkets to look at inside, a much better feel to the place now the tables are proper if you came here on the past it was like sat in pews at a church. Both was good but the seating gives it more of a charm. Small room to the side and a pub area to stand if that's your thing. Lots of car parking space and outside seating to get the loverly British weather. Drinks are pricey but you pay extra for the fantastic views and the staff are friendly.

Overall the place is okay, it's clear that it used to be incredible but there is a clear lack of care and attention to detail from the owners. Our room had multiple walls with cracked paint, flaking off. Lights painted over partially. 4 of the hot tub jet caps flew off the moment we turned them on and floated to the top. Carpet unclean and small dirt marks on the bedding. The exterior of the room was absolutely coated in cobwebs and dirt, clearly hadn't seen a duster in months. and the Italian restaurant LOOKS really nice and high end, but overall lacks in flavour. Cheap wine marked up heavily and bland calamari. HOWEVER the kids play area looked incredible fun for little ones. The overall aesthetic is quirky, makes you forget what year it is in a good way. The pizza at guys restaurant was incredible, as was the breakfast. Comfy bed, nice space in the room. The pub on site was cozy and welcoming. Overall we felt with some TLC and some effort put in, this place could be incredible and even increase it's rates per night, if it was cleaner and tidier we'd have happily paid 20% more. Good value for money, there is a reason it's fairly cheap though.
