I used to love it here, but my recent visit was disappointing. The manager was incredibly rude, which really put a damper on the experience. It’s clear that the standards have slipped – the place wasn’t as clean as it used to be, and the quality of the food and drinks has gone downhill. It’s a shame because it used to be a great spot. I hope they can turn things around

I was disappointed with the standard of cleanliness of the 'uniforms' of the staff. It really was quite off putting. They wear black and the 2 guys who took turns in serving me had dirty jeans and stained shirts. The coffee was fine and the cake but standards of staff appearance need to improve to the standard it used to be before I'll return.

a good range of light food good coffee and tea. It is a bit expensive for what it is as there are so many cafes, restaurants and tearooms in Heswall. It is attached to the Post Office.

I was in here last Thursday with my grandparents who both go there weekly with a friend, they both could not stop raving about the place! They said that all of the staff are lovely, 'nice girls and boys' - as they put it, not to sound patronising, but I think it's very sweet. I totally agree however, all of the members of staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, they all thanked us and said goodbye when we were leaving, and even when I looked back to check I'd left nothing behind, I received a smile from a young lady behind the counter. I just love the fact that none of these smiles seemed false either, all of the staff looked like they were working well together and keeping calm under any pressure - I've worked in hospitality for over 5 years, so I know what it can be like! Just wanted to say a BIG thank you too all of the team there, my grandparents aren't the easiest to please either, so your team are certainly doing something right! It makes me very happy to know that they go look forward to going somewhere every week and be treated the with respect and care they deserve. Thank you!! - By the way the coffee was also delicious - perfect latte! - and the food very tasty and a good portion for the price!

Visited twice in recent weeks for a coffee and a snack. Table service by young friendly staff. Menu is just snacks and sandwiches but that's fine. The toasted t cakes are enormous! Only downside is that you can't pay by card under £10 and no loyalty card but well worth a visit.

I have visited Thornton Coffee Shop on a few occasions now and the food has always been nice and well presented. They have a good variety of soup, sandwiches and a specials board. If its a snack you want the coffee is one of the best I have tasted and they have a good choice of cakes available. I have always found the staff pleasant and efficient. The coffee shop is located in Thornton's Chocolate Shop and they have chocolates on sale, it also has a post office but they all have their own individual space and the coffee shop is set out well and is lovely and bright. A really nice place to stop and have some lunch.

£3.25 for a sausage bap! Smallest bap I have ever seen. It was chewy and it looked as though the sausage had been pre-cooked. Service was great but unfortunately the food was very much lacking. This used to be my favourite place to eat in Heswall for a quick bite to eat. I don't think I'll be back there any time soon.

Been here a few times, sometimes it's okay other times its not so good.Staff sometimes chat amongst themselves whilst you wait for your order to be taken. I think regular customers are treated differently, which is wrong. Don't think I will visit again. There are better coffee shops in Heswall.

Visit here occassionally but think people who visit everyday are given priority. Some staff pleasant and polite others not so. Would not rave over the food, pretty basic and you can see staff going across to Iceland for food then sold in the cafe. I am pretty certain soup comes out of a tin and is overpriced. Just stick to coffee or tea in future.

Have walked past this place many times due to its location and after visiting the post office, so thought it was time to try it. Being a winters day, I chose the soup and bread and I'll be honest....im sure it was Heinz or a similar brand and the bread was disappointing. With Iceland over the road I could have bought the same lunch for a fraction of the price. Needless to say I won't be going back, but I have given it three stars, because I'm sure you'll agree, Thorntons chocolates are delicious, so i had to grab a box. With so much choice in Heswall, they would be better specialising in chocolates alone!!

First visit here with my mother- who is a regular. I was nicely surprised! This is not your average Cafe food - this is fresh, good quality food. Not your average coffee & a sandwich, the food really is unparalleled in Heswall. The other coffee shops do have similar menu's however the quality of the food here is far superior. Sadly, visually it is not clear/eye-catching as an eatery...as I said my older mother is a regular but I myself would never have thought to go there, when out and about in Heswall.Thortons you associate with Chocolatiers...the display of the site does not distinguish that it is an eatery - which it should and Im sure would get a lot more repeat custom if the Cafe side was promoted a little more..

We decided to give Thorntons a visit as it was one of the only places in our town that we had not yet been. I was in the mood for a hot chocolate, and as this was Thorntons, I thought it would be a perfect choice. How wrong. I ordered a large, expecting it to be delicious, but wish I'd not ordered at all. If I had closed my eyes, I would not have even been able to identify it as anything other than a hot tasteless drink. I've had better hot chocolate from a garage forecourt! My husband had coffee which was also very bland, and the atmosphere was non existent too. Will not be returning nor would I recommend . There are so many other fantastic places to try in Heswall, I am surprised this place is still in business.

Seems bizarre in this day and age that a cafe doesn't have at least one high-chair, but this place doesn't despite the fact that every other cafe in Heswall does. The are better cafes and worse cafes than this in Heswall, so it can't be because it is trying to be exclusive or anything.Oh well, guess they're losing a lot of potential custom, but that's their lookout.

The sandwiches here are quite nice but they are very expensive. The last time we went the salad which they serve on the side was really below standard - I think we counted two pieces of sweetcorn and red pepper and hardly any dressing. My biggest complaint about this cafe is that the tea comes in the smallest teapot I have ever seen and literally only does one very small cup - very stingy if you ask me considering the price of one tea bag and a splash of milk. The bakewell tart was not very nice.

Visited with my (well behaved) 3 year old for a quick bite. Was promptly overlooked by the waitress in favour of any other customer. When she reluctantly came to our table I asked if they were able to make a half round of sandwiches for my son. I was abruptly informed 'no'. So it appears that the staff are either unable or unwilling to cut a sandwich in half! Had to leave and go elsewhere. Seems like an odd business model when the families of today will be the silver haired customers of tomorrow!

A very nice place to go for a quick bite to eat and the young man was very pleasant and helpful. The sandwiches - toasted and ordinary - were excellent and the pot of tea reviving. Why oh why can't you put a V sign on vegetarian food? I know you have a vegan menu (there is a difference between vegan and vegetarian, just lazy to have just vegan and think it will suit vegetarians). All menus should have V signs and also there is no mention of food intolerances, gluten free not mentioned either. On a sunny day there is outside seating but not one sun umbrella so too hot to sit out in bright sun. Noisy radio playing inside too, sad as this place used to be good and lovely environment. Won't return.

I visited the restaurant while I was staying in the area. I had one of tge best steak meals I've had on this occasion. It was just perfect. Abd the value from the Evening set meal price is very good. Service was excellent. It was very disappointing to learn this outlet is one of many Whitbread have decided to close. Over many years it has been a very popular venue for a good value meal and will be much missed. If only Whitbread had invested more in and it's other restaurants instead of closing so many. Very short sighted

Mysterious, Quirky, Intriguing and most certainly very original and different. Whilst the Fort Perch Rock as a fort is closed to the public, the Cafe Eatery inside and open air and along the ramp is open and worth trying out. The Cafe is atmospherically dark like the bowels of a ship but quite an experience and the food menu is very reasonable. Be brave ..... and visit .... just for an experience.

My last visit a few years back with my family left much to be desired regarding the food quality. However, today's experience was utterly different. I enjoyed lovely fish and chips, featuring a generous portion of fish and crispy and hearty chips. The service was pleasant, and witnessing your efforts cleaning an already immaculate-looking establishment was pleasing. The staff was courteous and amiable towards my grandson.
