The Zhang in Canterbury

Lovely food, never had a problem here, when we have chinese food this is always our choice.

Horrendous!!!! By far the worst Chinese we’ve ever eaten. My partner stopped after eating pork that she described as tasting like armpit!! The crispy beef was not crispy and the only flavour was onion, the rice was stodgy and bland, and the chicken was so cheap and chewy that the entire meal was inedible. Never ever again!!

Salt and pepper ribs just pure gristle and no flavour. Stodgy rice, nothing special about the special. Kung po chicken was not what its supposed to be. Every Chinese here is poor. Zhangs has joined the list

Ordered crispy beef and hong king sweet and sour pork. I could barely tell the difference. There was so little beef in the crispy beef it could have been a vegetarian dish. The sweet and sour was OK but not crispy and a lot of batter. No egg in egg fried rice. Disappointing but Uber eats delivery was spot on and the order arrived promptly.

Have been using Zhang for about a year now. Can not fault the food or quality. Have only had 1 delivery that was about 10mins later than stated and delivery people have always been really pleasant on arrival

Terrible, we waited 2 and a half hours, the food was all stone cold, not like warm actually stone cold. The missed food off our order and sent prawn instead of chicken and I have a serious fish allergy. Should be shut down immediately

Unfortunately won't be coming back here again. The lady got our order wrong X3 times my partner got home and the order was wrong so he had to go back again and got home and it was wrong so we asked for it to be delivered as my partner did not want to go out a 3rd time and waste more petrol. She was really rude and shouted down the phone to me and couldn't understand my order. Huge language barrier. This is the second time we have had an issue the first being rancid crispy Duck full of bone and grizzle.

Took 2.5 hours to be delivered even after chasing 3 times. When it eventually arrived the order was wrong.

We decided to order from here as we'd heard nothing but good things. Being valentines we expected it to be busy but after taking payment they then informed us that it would be 1 - 1 & quarter hour wait for delivery. Phoned after 1 & half hours to be told it was on its way. Half hour later, still not arrived but told again it was on its way. Called them again after 2 & half hours to cancel & get refund!!

Order food got told an hour. To ring up for times after the hour for food still not to come when it did was 5 mins away from being 2 hours. Then food was cold. Not happy quick enough to take money but not bring my food. Not even a sorry or a discount. Always come but this is second time in 2 months it been like this. Also my mother in law has to take medication at 8.30 now she not eating cos she can't on her meds.

Cold food when delivered had to put in microwave.

Horrible, clearly last nights reheated leftovers, hard chips, dry hard pork that just tasted of dirty oil, rubbery beef, certainly not worth £30 of anyones money. Avoid.

Cant comment on the food. Restaurant refused our delivery three times. Live in radius and was happy to pay extra. I could accept if it was a small order but for £100?. Don't advertise you deliver in a certain mile radius if you don't. WASTE OF TIME

Super quick delivery and the food was very hot and fresh. There is so much on the extensive menu to choose from, everything we had was delicious! Will be ordering from them again very soon

Had a meal from here on Wednesday, enjoyed it so much had the same meal today, Friday.

Delivered to our campsite with no fuss. Not being from the area we felt we have hit the jackpot in the lottery of choosing a takeaway. Food was lovely- would definitely recommend !

Best ever take away service! We ordered from Herne Bay beach, they were happy to deliver our food there which arrived within half hour of ordering. Food was piping hot and delicious. Fresh, tasty ingredients, thoroughly recommend for a great quality take away with excellent service.

Food was piping hot, good quality ingredients. Some of the dishes weren't quite to my taste, but now I know what I like from here, it's spot on every time!

Had a delivery from here saturday night, quite a long wait for food, but we expected that being on a lockdown and probably lots of people wanting takeaways. Food came piping hot, and was so delicious. Thankyou very much 😀

Just had our delivery, £60 waisted to be honest, we have always ordered and enjoyed our meals from here but tonight, the chips tasted stale, chillie beef was worse than chewing on wood, and don't I can't even describe the chicken balls, 1 bite and I almost threw up, it arrived stone cold due to the delivery driver not having a clue where they was going, and 45minutes late. Sad to say we won't be using Zhang's again!

Had a takeaway from here, was very salty with no flavour. Wouldn't recommend.

A good meal, all freshly prepared and very enjoyable. Regrettably that is where the fun stopped, a visit to the toilet exposed a world of dirt and grease. Nothing looked like it had been cleaned in years. This will be my last visit here. Note there was no official star rating displayed on the windows from the local health inspector.

Tasty but not really enjoyed. Stairs to the toilet and the toilet itself disgustingly dirty, first and last.

Good food but please don't be fooled by the Sunday buffet ad. They haven't done this for years....

Standard fare foe a chinese, good amount of MSG and jam s&s sauce but the wierd thing was the war that was raging upstairs. I thought the celing would cave in, asked the staff and they said its just kids playing, om my lordy, what a rackrt. Food was nothing special, can be had anywhere in uk and without the din from upstairs.

My husband and I were staying in Herne Bay last night and really fancied a nice Chinese. Having been to what I believe to have been called The Yanzee a good few years ago, we decided to give The Zhang a try. As we walked up to the restaurant I could see there was no one else inside. I guess this should have made us turn around, but I was so hungry we went in. We didn't get a a warm welcome, just a hello. We sat where we wanted. There was some music in the background but as you can imagine it lacked atmosphere and ambience. It looked more like a cafe than a Chinese restaurant. There was nothing to give it a nice cosy feel. Apart from a packet of coco pops sitting on a table on the other side of the room. I ordered a coke and hubby ordered tap water. We ordered the mixed starters at £9.90. The seaweed was hard and dry and cold. The Prawn toast had a funny smell and looked like 2 pieces of bread with some weird concoction in between. The ribs were 'ok'. The Satay Chicken was quite nice. The spring rolls were rubbish - no vegetables inside, imo cheap and nasty. To be honest, as we started to eat we contemplated walking out. I have never walked out of a restaurant before, but I was so disappointed with the food that had been presented to me. The waitress came and took away the starters, she could see that we'd left quite a bit but said nothing. She then brought out plates for our main dish. These were just put in front of us and were cold. Now, to be quite honest at home I never heat my plates. BUT, at every Chinese restaurant I have been to, they ALWAYS serve you heated plates. The waitress then brought our main dishes, chicken chow mein, chicken curry and egg fried rice. These were ok. I probably ate just over a half of mine and hubby ate two thirds of his. When the waitress came to take our plates she then asked if everything was ok. So at this point I told her the mains were ok, but the starters were poor. She asked me to specify, I pointed out the things I said above and she then said that she did not make the spring rolls, they were bought in??? She could not understand when I pointed out that she chose her supplier and they were cheap and nasty. She said that she also has a chinese takeaway and has been using those spring rolls for 20 years!!! Oh yes, not forgetting to mention that when my husband almost got to the end of his tap water there was all bits floating around on the bottom. When I pointed this out to the waitress and showed her she just laughed and said it's tap water. Well thank goodness the water that comes out of my taps doesn't look like this. She then proceeded to go out to the kitchen and i then heard raised voices between her and the chef!! Very professional. For me, when I go to a Chinese restaurant I expect a certain standard. On this occasion this standard was not met. We were served cheap and nasty food. I think what The Zhang need to realise is if you want a restaurant you need to serve food that is fit for a restaurant. The proof is in the pudding, the restaurant was empty. Two people came in for a takeaway whilst were there. On reflection, a good restaurant will be busy/have customers mid-week. We should have walked away. But remember YOU CAN. Take that trip to Whitstable or Canterbury, I guarantee it will be better than The Zhang!!

I used to like The Zang, but the last three have been very poor, just today i had one it was dry and tasteless I think that will be my last from the Zang, after giving it a few more go's its just not got any better. I thought being a Saturday night and punters in their restaurant it would be maybe better, but nope waste of money thrown 75% of it in the bin and all four of us said same it was dry and tasteless. So sorry Zang you have lost us as customers for good!

Always good food deliver on time too

We have tried them all and this one tops the lot. It takes a couple of calls before you get through because they are so popular. When you do get through though try here is a nice polite girl on the other end who is very knowledgeable about her food and so nice. The delivery took a little longer than others but I put this down to popularity and it's so so worth the wait. The food is on another level and all the dishes were cooked to perfection. Again, the best in Herne bay with no difference in price

We have been to this restaurant/ takeaway many times. Always had good food and good portions. Not this time. We had a set meal with mixed starter, duck and then mains and rice etc. We had a nice plate of mixed starter but there was only enough prawn toast to have a quarter of a slice each. Then came the duck but there was only enough duck and pancakes to have 1 and a half each. We asked for more and was told no. What made it worse was seeing spare duck on other tables ie they had plenty. Thankfully things picked up and we had plenty of mains brought to us. So much so that we couldn't eat it all. In summary the food we had was good and I have no idea why we had really mean portions of prawn toast, duck and pancakes. It was a disappointing visit compared to our previous ones.

We had a delivery, which was about 5 minutes early in their estimation. Unfortunately, the food was very greasy and tasteless, really disappointing. Won't be ordering again.

Word cannot describe how bad the service was waited 40min just for drinks when she finally asked about food because there was 15 of is she just said ill bring u starters? What? Then over an hour later 4 plates of food where put on the table by this point everybody was tired of waiting around what little food we where given wasn't bad at all but our table was booked for 6:30, we didn't get our starters untill gone 8pm when we said we had enough we wanted to leave she tried charging us full price which we refused to pay we had barely eaten starters! And had all paid for drinks as we has got them we ended up paying £7 each for our starters which was far more than they deserved, but this had already taken far to long so just to get put of there we paid. I left far hungrier than I had arrived!! I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Have been using Zhang s for years. Food is always good

We had the 'take away' on Friday 6th October evening. Although our food took a long time to cook/appear it was tasty and good value for money. Portions were generous although the duck option was not generous with the duck content.

I love this place but last nights food was not as good as normal ! but maybe it was really busy!

Usual high standard of food although I don't like the fact that they are adding carrot as a filler to their dishes, next thing you know there will be lots of vegetables added to bulk out dishes. That' how the last place I ordered Chinese from lost my business.

Pleased with the speed of the delivery, they also graciously amended my order when I made a mistake. Foot wasn't up to their usual standards, chow mein was a little greasy, fried rice a little dry, otherwise very happy.

Had family round for a meal and had Fantastic food as usual and our guests enjoyed it as well. delivery was 15 mins late BUT the delivery driver apologised for being late. (Food was still very hot) Would definitely use again and highly recommend

Having read the reviews I was pretty confident the food would be pretty good upon receiving the food was hot and prepared to a good standard but it lacked flavour and seasoning. The chow mein was especially bland. I also requested to make the black bean and special rice extra spicey and not to receive the complimentary prawn crackers. My notes were not read and I received an run of the mill version. All in all the experience was meh

I couldn't eat my meal last night it went straight in the bin as when I pulled my last dish from the bag I had a live fly hanging from the lid, as you can imagine this more than put me off my food. So disappointing as we thought we had finally found a really good chinese

La comida es buenísima, a un precio razonable, muy buena selección, comida cocinada a orden, así un poco de espera en algunos platos, pero yo prefiero esperar para recién cocinado! Poco personal cuando nos fuimos, y la situación es un poco extraño, baño pero sin duda volvería sin ningún problema

Ordered through Just Eat. Was a long wait - an hour and 10 mins - Saturday evening order!! However the quality of the food was excellent. Tasty, hot!! Will try again - will have to try the restaurant!

This restaurant has never failed to achieve it's delivery time or to get an order wrong. As a consequence it is the only Chinese we use in Herne Bay.

Always on time and excellent customer service

Food was almost an hour late and, when I rang up and complained, they said they were running behind. This could have been told to me by a quick phone call as they had my number. The delivery driver wasn't even fussed or apologetic about the wait and just gave me my food and left. The food itself was alright but not to the quality that it usually is. We usually have great experiences from the Zhang but this time was a disappointment.

2 hours to deliver and the tubs were half filled and tastless...will not buy from again
