The food is incredible, and presented in abundance, very nicely. You really feel like you can’t move after the meal for two. The pollock was the only thing that wasn’t too tasty. I found the music a bit loud for the place even asked to turn it down and they kindly did. As a designer, the interiors for me was a bit basic not in line with the food experience.

We had a delicious lunch here, they try to use as much locally grown produce as possible and the taste + presentation is excellent. Starters were the highlight for me, the mains could be more generous in portion size. Would definitely revisit if in the area again.

First off, the food is very average; when you factor in the price, it is poor and, frankly, lazy. And that is before you even get to the overall experience, which for us was shocking - huge delays, meaning we weren't served the second course until two hours after ordering. We were at the restaurant for a total of 4 + hours (most of it spent waiting for the food). I understand that there were some issues in the kitchen but still... When the second course came, it was bland and they had evidently forgotten all seasoning (as an aside, it was a cockles dish, and it had a grand total of two cockles). I should add that I felt for the serving staff, who were doing their best dealing with a kitchen that was clearly falling apart. But even on a good day, I would have considered the food average at best. In short, save your time and money. P.s. I didn't see one zebra. So all that riding gear I put on was a waste of time. At least I looked fly.

What a gem this is! The simple looking menu was not simple on the plate with delicious and interesting flavour combinations... Beef dripping butter anyone, wow! The Sunday semi sharing menu (you choose your main) was super sociable with generous portions. Why choose one starter when you can try them all?! Do not be concerned by having your desert chosen for you, when it’s the best sticking toffee pudding you ever did eat! This place feels relaxed but still special enough for an occasion (it was my birthday) Haven’t even mentioned the price… it’s a steal!

On reading the reviews I’m surprised at how different our experience was to others. The “tasting menu” used poor quality ingredients and lacked flavour and the first few courses were shared in the middle family style (I.e., you don’t get a plate to yourselves) which is not usual for a tasting menu - and overall poor value for money (£58 pp). The drinks were disappointing - £50 for a bottle of terrible Prosecco and very limited selection of wine, also overpriced for a glass. The service was shocking. We were given partial menus (missing pages) and when one person asked for another wine menu (we had one between 7) it was thrust their way. Throughout the evening no one checked on how we were “enjoying” the food or even looked our way, and when we were attended to it was with a very snappy attitude as if we were an inconvenience. We were never provided with the bill just presented the card machine. The evening cost us £600 for 7 people (less than 2 drinks each) and no coffees or fancy drinks (bar one cocktail). Would not return and so disappointed this was the first night of a 3 night stay at Birch ;(.

Booked a table for lunch online asking for a corner seat as we had a dog. The request was completely ignored and we were seated in the middle of the room. Valerie's restaurant has unusual decor and looks tatty, particularly the floor which was worn and covered in paint marks. The table next to ours (after moving) had left over plates and crockery with food on the floor. I ordered a pork schnitzel which strangely arrived about 2 inches in thickness and was deep fried. It was tough and unpleasant to eat. Overall the experience was very dissapointing so I wouldn't reccomend unfortunately. We certainly won't be going back.

For the money I’m afraid this was distinctly ordinary and somewhat disappointing. Service was friendly and efficient but small tip - if a course is not touched by a diner at least ask why rather than remove a full plate and say nothing. Plus I appreciate that you are dog friendly but two large dogs on the table next to us eyeing up our food was not pleasant ( fortunately you could move us) and you really shouldn’t allow dogs to sit on the seats - that is awful. A once in a lifetime experience I’m afraid.

My hubby and l had valentine dinner last night at the Zebra Riding club. £156 for 2! Better value elsewhere! Cold restaurant. Nothing we had was enjoyable. The choice of main was limited. The duck dish was awful. Everything else fixed. Birch tries hard at being receptive and friendly and that was felt throughout our stay. Good for kids as they can play and run around in a safe environment. Really let down by the meal that was overpriced and underwhelming, sadly.

Interesting location but not easy for stranger to find as it is inside The Birch Country club, then you need get through a lowered barrier The Sunday lunch consisted of several 'bits and pieces' for starters plus small selection of main courses. None of the courses being generous, in fact quite the reverse. The cost was £45 a head without drinks . Not particularly good value . Mainly the food was of 'interest' and generally the soroundings were pleasant

A disappointing, expensive experience on what was supposed to be an enjoyable birthday evening. Nightmare to get through to someone to make a booking in the first place, they then lost the reservation after ringing to tell us it had to be 30 minutes later than we wanted, kept us waiting in a taxi at the entrance for 10 minutes, then let us through but then questioned again by a rude guy inside the restaurant on why we didn't have a booking after explaining to the security that they'd messed up. He quite clearly thought we we're trying our luck and the worst of all was that no apology was made and we were made to feel very unwelcome. We were then sat right at the bar even though tables were free by the time we'd finally got in (30 mins after the supposed "sitting" time had passed and obviously people weren't due to arrive). Plenty of better restaurants for a similar price in Central London. Spend your money where they have a competent booking system and are decent enough to apologise for messing up.

It's worth going for the porridge sourdough bread alone. I love the concept; no time wasted reading though endless menu choices. You choose the main course only (meat, fish or vegetarian/vegan) and the other dishes are a selection to suit all diets and can be adjusted as necessary. And they manage to make a humble carrot taste scrumptious! This was my third time at Zebra and I will definitely go again.

It was my second time at this establishment and I must admit both times were equally amazing. The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious, keeps you curious as the ingredients are paired beautifully. Some of the classics are modernised which makes them more suitable to my taste as the food feels less heavy and much more enjoyable. I would suggest trying their porridge sourdough which has a beautiful texture and a very unique flavoir. I also absolutely loved ricotta dumplings with smoked tomato sauce. It was scrumptious and the dessert was a beautiful Pannacotta. Not a great fan of Pannacotta but this one was light, creamy, and incredibly tasty. Also, the menu is varied enough to suit vegetarians.

Very disappointing, having read so many good reports I was expecting the food to be much better. We went for Sunday lunch and the food was really underwhelming. Reviews are spot on about the homemade bread and apple balsamic..delicious. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was not. For the table, appetisers were very bland and uninteresting. The main meal, Roast beef lacked flavour and both my partner and myself had unpleasant gristle which was inedible. The side dishes uninspiring, luke warm hispi cabbage covered in an overpowering garlic dressing., small bowl of potatoes. The dessert, pannacotta looked like it had been thrown in a bowl and a few slices of apple thrown in too. The tuille was very nice. Our main waitress was very nice. However the waiter who brought the mains just grunted 'here's your main, your side dishes are coming' and then disappeared. It's not a cheap place to eat approximately £100 for two without drinks. Although it stresses that's its a tasting menu,it needs to offer more, I don't think the chefs are doing themselves justice. It just wasn't very tasty or inspiring. Sorry.

Hubby took me here for our anniversary. We had the tasting menu and everything was superb. The bread, which I presume is made on the premises, is like nothing I had ever tasted. So yummy. We had 5 courses full of scrumptious food with plenty of different vegetables, some meats and wonderful flavours. The setting of the restaurant is in what appears to be a converted barn in the beautiful Theobald's Park next to the Birch. Definitely one for special occasions or if you fancy something completely different from what the local area offers. It is pretty pricey but definitely worth it. I don’t really see what the fuss is about - it’s really overpriced for what it is. Go to any of London’s set menu restaurants (for example Leroy, Casa de Fofo, Pidgin - most have service included in price and service is exceptional at each) and you’d get real flavour for the same / less money. Visited evening 31 Aug - paid £130 for two set menus for £49 each (no cheese) and three glasses of wine. Wish could take service off - sat down at 730, got mains at 915... starving by then and unclear why took so long. Menu wasn’t explained. Wine recommendations not offered. Service of food was fine but doesn’t take much to bring a plate or take it away. And then the wait for food wasn’t even worth it - Food: great bread and butter. Pickles next - fine but not exciting. The main of monk fish (pesce) and duck (for meat eater) with beans and side of green beans. Where are the carbs? The dessert of chopped up strawberries and ice cream with separate plate of some sort of mandelline like cake (a bit burnt, hard and not warm) was burnt. I can see why people would go for cheese as I don’t have a large appetite and was left hungry. The wines are average - can see they tried but they’re not that great and also no recommendations. All in all, bit of a shame - like the rest of Birch, great concept and visually such promise but falls down on substance and execution. Take the cooking team to some of London’s decently priced set menu restos and pay attention to their taste combos, service and timings.

We were really looking forward to this when we booked but we quite underwhelmed by the whole experience. Firstly, booking on a Sunday the tasting menu was only 3 courses, not 4, which we were not aware of. The price was reduced to reflect this, but it would have been nice to know in advance as we could have booked a different day. Secondly, what we actually got was quite simple and unimpressive, every single dish was something I could have made at home myself with minimal effort. The starters were all vegetable based, aside from a tiny amount of anchovies for 3 people to share (2 each) and an equally tiny amount of cured meats (5 pieces for 3 people). They felt more like side dishes than starters and didn't really wow. We also had a vegetarian in our group who wasn't offered any alternatives, so instead of bread with cured meats just had bread, and just tomato salad without the anchovies. The mains were good, if small, the meat option was pork belly which was absolutely tiny. The size wouldn't have been an issue if it were a normal tasting menu, but paired with the starters and lack of a fourth course it wasn't a lot for your money. Again, the sides were pretty uninspired, potatoes and greens. Overall the food while not bad, felt more "dinner party at a friends" than fine dining. There was also no sommelier (or at least no one offered any advice on wine) and the orange wine I ordered was pretty ropey. All in all, it wasn't really worth the journey if you're not already staying at Birch. There was also a fairly long walk from the entrance to the actual restaurant which would have been very unpleasant if the weather wasn't nice, not much thought seems to have one into this, particularly if guests have mobility issues.

Featuring own grown and reared produce, the setting was perfect and the food was breathtaking. We booked to stay at The Birch for my partners birthday as well as our anniversary and we have not been disappointed. Everything has been spot on which is difficult enough when you have only been open a few weeks but drop the 'C word' in the mix and it makes this place even more impressive. Back to The Zebra Riding Club - I'm not one for taster menus or fish but the other half really wanted to go and it was her birthday so.. the main fish dish was an additional extra if we wanted so I was happy to avoid the majority of fish. The limited amount in there I would have had no idea about had I not read the menu. The service was incredible throughout and never left waiting at any stage. Extremely tentative and friendly without being overkill. Again, very difficult balance to get but nailed it here. Every course was spot on and well worth the spend. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be back. My pictures don't do it all justice.

Excellent range of dishes, some incorporating their own home grown/reared produce. Good food in a relaxed informal environment

The food is very greasy it’s really not great but the lady that runs the place is lovely she would always give me food when I was homeless and tbh there was times when that greasy cold saveloy and chips would taste so good so I suppose what I’m saying is that when it’s free and uv eaten nothing all day it’s all good but I wouldn’t pay for it if I had the choice and pls don’t think I’m being ungrateful I’m just being honest if it wasn’t for the fact of how nice the lady is they wouldn’t be getting 3 stars she earns them purely cos she’s a good person not for the food
