The Yurt at Nicholsons in Cherwell

Met up at The Yurt for lunch with friends. Absolutely perfect in every way. Polite, friendly staff, wonderful food and very reasonably priced. We were the last table to leave but were under no pressure to as we were aware of the closing time. I can’t wait for the next visit.

What a fantastic venue! We visited for lunch, and had the courgette and pea tagliatelle with a glass of wine. The quality of food was excellent and you could tell how fresh the dish was. The chips were also very tasty! It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the yurt and the waiters and waitresses were attentive and made lots of effort to make sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to visit again!

This is a great place for a celebratory lunch for a group of friends, or for couples. The food, the hospitality and the venue are all excellent. This was our second visit and l am looking forward to our next visit already. The Yurt has fortified me with great food memories! Thank you team Yurt.

We enjoyed another wonderful lunch at the Yurt yesterday. The venue is so special, and always makes me feel as though I’m miles away from everyday life. The staff are helpful without being obtrusive, and the food is outstanding. Every dish is beautifully cooked and presented, and the flavours are exquisite. And the constantly changing seasonal menu means that every visit is a new experience. Two of our friends hadn’t visited before and were very impressed, vowing to return as soon as they could.

This is a great place for lunch - with delicious food, lovely staff and even meeting rooms. Go for any event from a business meeting to a personal celebration with your partner. Really great!

A stunning meal in a lovely setting; i was supposed to be engaging/talking while I ate but frankly the food was just a bit too tasty for that. Imaginative menu and beautifully presented too; service very friendly.

Superb experience hosting a business lunch in one of the beautiful huts at Nicholsons. Impeccable service from Lucy, Millie and Milo and the food cooked up by chef Andrew Carr was amazing - not a single morsel left on one of the 7 plates! Highly recommended for food, friendliness, environment and much more. Whether it's a meal with family or friends or a business lunch you will struggle to find much better and incredible value for money! Thank you to everyone at Nicholsons for a first class lunch.

Lucky you, if you need to visit a garden centre. Choose Nicholsons and be sure to include a meal at The Yurt - great atmosphere, lovely staff and a couple of chefs cooking up a storm. Our faultless lunch included cod cheeks in tempura, meltingly braised beef with pommes Anna and two proper puds. Thankfully, we’re bound to need something else for the garden soon.

I’ve been to the Yurt once before this visit and the food was amazing both times. The menu is seasonal and uses locally farmed produce but the presentation and the taste is spectacular. I’m a vegetarian and the veggie options were delicious (there’s even vegan options available!) The staff are incredibly friendly (thanks again to our waiter Lucy!) and the location is beautiful. I couldn’t recommend this place enough and it’s definitely worth a visit. There’s even private huts for those that want to dine privately (although dining in the Yurt is definitely a must) and you can even bring your dog along if you’re going to be dining in the huts. Thank you again to all the wait-staff with special appreciation to the chefs, we had a wonderful time and hope to come again soon.

We have visited the Yurt several times for both brunch and lunch, and every time we are incredibly impressed by the delicious food and lovely cosy atmosphere. The food is all locally sourced and seasonal with a great variety of choice - ranging from healthy veggie options to delicious cheese soufflees or meat dishes. My daughter is a coeliac and they are very accommodating, and have multiple GF options for starter, main, and dessert. The staff are always lovely and friendly and all round it is a great place to go for a highly enjoyable meal out. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

We love the Yurt and enjoyed our delicious lunch yesterday as always. The experience as a whole however was somewhat tarnished by the poor service; between the several young women who served us there was no warmth of welcome. We felt a little pressurised to order while enjoying our pre-lunch drinks. when our food was brought to us it was 'plonked' down in front of each of us with no smile, eye contact or comment. Generally we felt that 'service' was not on the menu: rather disappointing and off putting.

We normally enjoy visiting the Yurt @ Nicholson’s, always book in advance. On Saturday it was assigned seating apparently, the girl told me on arrival as fully booked, no hello or warm welcome .. not even a smile! Breakfast is generally good. Coffee was strong on this visit. Also the man on a Saturday at Nicholsons, always stops you at the entrance to ask you what you are here for.. happens every time .. then have you booked?! It is so off putting. Why not just say hello and welcome ! Sometimes we have just come to look at the plants/trees.

Had a breakfast at the yurt. Excellent prompt service and the food was fantastic and of high quality. I would recommend the Turkish eggs. Highly recommended.

The Yurt is a total delight - the staff are kind, friendly and informative. The food is exceptional - delicious and beautiful. The Vietnamese rolls were mouth wateringly good. The setting is what really completes the experience - peaceful, tranquil and serene.

The Indian Eggs were the best brunch I have ever had! A mix of lentil and chickpea Dahl, roasted garlic yoghurt, perfectly cooked poached eggs, topped with delicately pickled red onion, lapped up with yummy flat bread, yum 😋 all served in the sunshine under the gorgeous pergola that slightly takes you to the south of France - beautiful

My favourite relaxed and happy restaurant. Lunch was utterly delicious, fresh, clean, tasty flavours, and wonderfully helpful, and humorous, service from Greg, front of house. Will be returning very soon for more of the lovely Yurt experience.

This was a group visit lunch. The food was served all together very efficiently. We had previously ordered one of 2 choices, steak and chips with salad or vegetable tagine. Both arrived hot and delicious. The steak was perfect, crispy brown on the outside and pink in the centre and tender, with thin fresh chips and salad grown and produced on site. This had a good dressing and was so fresh. The vegetable tagine contained about 8 kinds but was a small portion compared with the steak dish as a whole. I felt some rice or even chips were needed to make a complete meal. The dessert of chocolate ganache with cherry sauce again was delicious. This cafe is to be recommended and the surroundings are stylish and fun.

After years of enjoying coffee and cake at the Yurt, arriving today I was turned away empty handed! No warning, very shortsighted decision for loyal customers (of which you can see there are a lot). Other loyal coffee drinkers arriving before me received the same welcome. Bizarre decision not to offer drinks lunchtime

One of the things I love about this business is that it constantly evolves as it keeps everything fresh and interesting. The Yurt sits in the centre of a tasteful plant centre and rather than being an 'ordinary' cafe, it has grown into place where you know the approach is ethical and sustainable but the food is imaginative and really enjoyable - and a cut above.They have recently revised their menu and moved from a coffee and cake offering to a more sophisticated menu and it really works. Prices for main courses range from £14.50 to £22 so it delivers on value and the predominantly vegetarian menu has a real range of flavours. On my first visit I chose the blackened halloumi which I really loved - so much so we returned the next day when I went for a Fennel cream topped with red peppers, pine nuts and artichokes and very tasty. Great desserts too.The lovely yurt breakfasts continue and next on my horizon is the stunning looking afternoon tea....All of the above in a beautiful setting with the loveliest of front of house team you could wish for.

We were given a voucher for Tea at the Yert, had to wait for Covid measures to relax but well worth it. Staff, food and venue were excellent, have already recommended to several people. Best tea ever not just sandwiches and cake, great chef!

The Yurt which has always been a fun and unusual place to visit has just upped it's game. The seasonal menu is varied and all 5 mains that our table ordered werebeautiful looking and delicious I was not prepared to share any of mine! we were allseduced by the delicious dessert menu and were equally delighted. The staff have always managed to be the ideal mixture of welcoming and attentive without being ever present. I feel lucky that we have this special place close to home but it would be worth travelling some distance for and is not even that far from the M40

The Yurt is just a beautiful place to visit, surrounded by a vibrant tree nursery, this unusual looking tent is a sight to behold! Walking into the Yurt is like walking into another world, and the food itself is just divine. With a focus on locally sourced ingredients the menu is good for you, and for the planet! Would recommend to everyone.

I have only been here once, and it was for my birthday (and friend's birthday gift to me). We ate here just before covid changed everyone's lives forever, but I just found the photos I took of the food, and I had a lovely time so I wanted to leave a review and share with others. Please keep in mind we ate here BEFORE COVID ... We arrived when it opened (for breakfast) so the space was empty except for us. More people arrived as the morning progressed. The cafe offers GF options, and adjusted my breakfast to suit my dietary needs (which are not by choice). I really enjoyed my food, as did my friend and I've included photos. The coffee they served at the time is supply locally (company based in Brackley) and I loved it. I loved it so much I still remember! I even commented to the manager and asked where I could buy it for my own home. It was a lovely experience

Lovely flavours in each of the rolls which we were given (although advertised as open sandwiches). Amazing petit cakes some of which were so crumbly they were hard to eat without making a mess. Scones were crisp(?) and already made up. Was surprised that tea (when it eventually arrived) was served with mugs and no choice of tea given. Would have preferred a cup and saucer. And to top it off no serviette until we asked for one! Service was slow and in attentive. Shame really as it is such a lovely venue. Could do better.

First visit to The Yurt although I only live 3 miles away. A much anticipated meeting with friends not seen since before lock down. I had booked a table inside as not sure of the weather. It is essential to book as it is very popular.The ambiance is wonderful, the staff all very friendly and helpful. The food is different and imaginative, fresh made pasta, local vegetables etc. The coffee is wonderful. Lovely cakes too. The pastry chef is fantastic the pastry on my rainbow chard tart was to die for. I shall be visiting regularly fro now on.

If I was on holiday and stumbled across a place like The Yurt, I'd be so happy so living close by feels ridiculously spoiling and its hard to find anywhere else where I'd rather go either alone or to meet friends.It's not posh but stylish. Quirky and creative and managed by an amazing team, it's set in a lovely and continually changing plant centre. The staff are just the warmest, most welcoming people ever and are attentive without being intrusive. Professionals with heart.I'm working my way through the menu (!) and today had a tasty tagliatelle with broccoli and chilli followed by an incredible soufflé with a berry compote and ice cream. OMG.Its not the cheapest place around but thats because they use only the best ingredients, mainly from organic suppliers and it shows. Love the place.

We had to wait for our narrow boat to be prepared due to flood delays and went to find somewhere for a light lunch. On the way to our planned location we passed a sign for the Yurt at Nicholson’s, intrigued we turned around and drove in.Lovely location and set up with the interiors shop and garden centre really attractively presented as you park up....strong initial impressions.Walking through the plants we saw the Yurt and were both expecting ‘rustic and basic’. On entering it is nothing of the sort....really well designed, Moroccan or similar style interior best describes it perhaps.The lunch menu was really different, we hadn’t realised it is primarily vegan. I ordered the Kerala fish curry and my wife the pumpkin ravioli. It’s difficult to decide which of us was the luckier! My curry was just full of flavour and the fish, perfect. Kim’s pumpkin ravioli, home made pasta, was delightful....I don’t like pumpkin but on tasting had to be impressed.Sharing a piece of their lemon squash cake just proved that these cooks have a real flair and skill....equally amazing cake.This place was so good we went back there for brunch today before setting off for home. Oriental Omelette......never had one before, I will be returning soon for another (we’re only 40 minutes away and it is absolutely worth it!), what flavours and taste......and vegan remember! Kim had the orange and pistachio cake.....and proved that the lemon squash was no fluke! Stopped by as we were passing. Nice cafe in a garden centre with a large outdoor seating area. Had 2 lovely warm scones with cream and jam and a slice of strawberry cake and 2 coffees. Shame it was full price tho as it's all served in boxes and cardboard cups. But still it was nice. Little bit pricey for the slice of cake tho.

Went here with my wife have been many times pre Covid and generally had pleasurable visits .Went today and regretted it and unlikely to return .This is a higher end garden centre cafe with prices to match but receiving tea in a paper cup and a rather stale cake in a cardboard box was not our idea of an enjoyable afternoon tea . We appreciate the safety measures that need to be followed but is it beyond comprehension that you cannot have a proper cup and teapot as was the normal pre lockdown if you go to a restaurant you don’t expect your food in a cardboard box and the environmental damage is quite unbelievable despite the so called compostablecups.Either charge prices accordingly or just revert to what you used to do well

We walked around the nurseries then had lovely lunch - the caramelised onion and cherry tomato tart tatin was amazing.

I took my nephews to the cafe to have some cake and a got chocolate. The cake wasn’t very good and cost just under £4 for a tiny rectangular piece and the drinks Were excess of £3 each. I had to sit outside on a picnic table due to their implemented social distancing. It’s a really nice garden centre but it’s just so over priced for the plants and everything in there is just a little too much over a premium rate for something nice, that you’d expect to pay. Good luck to them if they keep getting customers but I feel it’s the case that they’re being a bit greedy and think there’s better elsewhere and for cheaper - this certainly applies to the cafe so I won’t be going there again and had a few times in the past.

Visited during COVID 19 restrictions. Lunch fine, although not very hot, but Oh dear. The cream with the scones and Jam was dire. We come from Cornwall and we’re just amazed that anyone could consider serving that with a cream tea!

Inside an upmarket garden centre sits this cafe/restaurant in a yurt. Actually it is not well insulated like a Mongolian yurt but is unusual. You will not be cold as there is a wood burner. The small menu for breakfast was served by very polite, as expected, waitresses. The inside is rustic, clean and pleasant although the windows are small restricting the view. Certainly the banana bread served with yoghurt and honey is excellent and provided in large quantities. Two us had breakfast for £20 which is reasonable and certainly I shall return for another breakfast with the country folk.

Visited with a family member in a wheelchair. A member of staff helped us with the doors to get wheelchair into the yurt cafe. There is a wheelchair friendly loo too.

Aa fantastic meal for Valentines night at the Yurt. Superb flavours and textures, great service. I hope that these occasional evenings will become a regular feature.

Last week we visited the Yurt for the first of their valentines suppers.I can honestly say we had one of the most fabulous meals we have had in a long time.The ambience as you entered was perfect ,simple but romantic.Enricho the chef treated us to the most delicious meal with a fabulous mixtures of flavors.The presentation of every course was spectacular and everything was cooked to perfection.My starter of pigeon was served on a bed of beetroot and melted in the mouth, I followed this with a delicious sea bass and finished off with chocolate torte with chili .The service throughout the evening was superb attentive but never intrusive.I would thoroughly recommend this venue for any special occasion.I am a regular visitor to the Yurt for breakfast and lunch and am never disappointed but last Friday night was something else .Well done everyone and thank you.

I have used this restaurant a lot since it opened a few years ago, but was more than disappointed with a lunch I had with friends yesterday. It was not only expensive, but the food was really not very good. A very tough lamb chop (which was supposed to be a braised shank) and a very dull gravlax which was marinated in beetroot. But the crowning glory was chocolate and almond bread and butter pudding. Sourdough crusts with a small amount of chocolate sauce and a few almonds sprinkled over it with a dollop of ice cream Inedible!

We had lunch in the Yurt having come to the Winter Treat event at Nicholson’s Nurseries. The service was excellent, they had no problems with us changing our mind on where we wanted to sit, and even offered a change of table when a bigger one became available! The food was delightful, akin to the standard one would expect in a restaurant, both in presentation and taste. The staff were friendly and professional. Not only was the Yurt superb, we loved all the festivities at Nicholson’s and returned home with a Christmas tree, feeling in the Christmas spirit following our peruse of the Rosara on site shop. Altogether another stunning and successful visit to Nicholson’s and the Yurt.

We visited The Yurt to celebrate a family birthday. The place is very attractive to the eye with a nice feel about it. The staff were helpful and pleasant and the food proved to be very tasteful. I chose the Moroccan lamb with the other members of our group chosing the fish and the homemade pies, all delicious. For the dessert I chose the fresh fruit, merrange and ice cream, loved it! We all drank the raspberryade, it was delightful. I was impressed with The Yurt and will return again in the future.
