The Nightingale in Cherwell

Regular Sunday visitors. But last few weeks, even though booked a table, waited over an hour for food, which was luke warm with very fatty chewy meat. Sorry Nightingale 3 strikes your out!!!

Once again The Nightingale proves itself to be a great community pub, Kieran , Allister, and the team continue to do a fantastic job, with superb service.

Came for a friends birthday, had a great meal and when I had a question about the vegan sausages the staff were super helpful and confirmed with the chef. Lovely vibe and kid friendly

Popped into The Nightingale for the lunchtime meal deal (sandwich, chips & alcoholic drink). Nick the chef made sumptuous sandwiches, full of fillings & lovely fresh slightly toasted bread, which left us wanting more. Crunchy hot skinny chips & a small pot of slaw too. All very tasty. When we wanted a 2nd drink, Connor didn’t hesitate to offer waiter service so as not to interrupt our meal. A fabulous experience for us today & excellent value for money too 👌 Well done The Nightingale Team 👏👏

We had this as a meet up point for friends and family as we are all scattered around the country. This was a fantastic friendly place that offered us our own area at the side of the bar. We will definitely visit again. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.

Great little pub with a sports bar feel. I had an out of office meeting here after lunch time so it was quiet. The sandwich options were good, reasonable portion size, great chunky chips and good value for money. And the service was warm and friendly. I would return again if ever in the area.

Food was nice, serves hot,and good portions. Service attentive and space clean and comfortable. Was a little disappointed with the Eton mess desert. Real cream would have helped.

Excellent.4 of us visited here on Sunday.We were greeted very warmly by the staff on arrival.The menu had so much choice and we all ordered different.Roast dinner,Fish and chips,Chicken madras and Lamb kofta kebab.We were all impressed with our choices.The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed and the staff were friendly and attentive.I,m so pleased we chose The Nightingale.Highly recommend.

Always a good time at the Nightingale! Amazing staff & friendly locals- food is great & at very reasonable pricing. They often have events on, pub quizzes etc to get involved with. Really homely & welcoming vibe. Happy to call this place my local!

Pop in on Sunday with a couple of friends from abroad had a lovely Beef Roast dinner the beef was so tender it just fell apart the potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle there was some American server who was so lovely and offered us some sauces to. Over all I can not fault the service we received and will definitely be returning in the future

My wife, 5 year old daughter and myself decided to visit after a few friends recommended and were not disappointed. The staff were both friendly and helpful and the food was plentiful and tasty. My fussy daughter ate all the chicken & mushroom pie and my fish. We will definitely be returning once my fulfilled belly has shrunk!! 👍

Went for lunch today taking my step mum, my wife and our dog. Bearing in mind there was a wedding on, the service was brilliant, the food was great and hot and although the cricket was on, it wasn't overbearing. Price was good. Overall, a great lunch out. Thanks guys.

We had our wedding reception at the nightingale and could not fault the hospitality. From menus to arranging tables nothing was too much trouble. Very welcoming and would recommend if anyone has any future functions. Sandra and Trevor New.

Good place to meet for lunch and have a chat with some food. Tried the mix 3 menu item which when it arrived was pleasantly larger portions than expected!

There was a great atmosphere with the sport on the televisions. So much choice we think the lunch and regular menu options. The new menu is great.

Sunday Roast was amazing! The Roast beef was sooo tender. Staff very friendly 😊 Husband was happy as he could watch the football at the same time lol We will definitely be back for a Roast soon!

Modern, but still a pub, and good for young and families. A real local gem.

Despite an initial mix up with our large family booking, the staff rallied around to accommodate us without fuss, our meals were fast delivered from order, and great value. Anyone who enjoys a Sunday roast should eat here.

Incredible pub, fantastic staff even better management. This pub has stayed consistently good after refurbishment and new brewery ownership, brewpoint beers have brought some fantastic ales on offer. Genesis stout breathes new life into the stout market! Easy drinking a Guinness killer if you like. 10/10 pub, food and drink

Fantastic pub with great staff.

Excellent lunch. We had beef lasagna and ploughman's. Lasagna was delicious, piping hot and not oily. Ploughman's had ham, pork pie and cheese and delicious warm bread. Couldn't fault either dish

Decent estate pub, recent refurbished.

I must say if you’re going in for a fry up 10/10 every time, the main not so much, the burgers we had were raw on the inside and bottom of bun soggy, that’s fine if you are into that but it was not for our taste. Partner couldn’t eat hers an I only ate mine because I didn’t want to waste my money. Mentioned it when paying thanked them then left. Platter was disappointing, staff was polite, atmosphere was good.

A group of us went for a Xmas meal here and it was lovely. Food was hot and very tasty and the staff were very chatty and helpful. Will definitely go back in the New Year.

Particular barmaid very unfriendly & actually rude. Food was a joke. £13 for a burger and chips and honestly the chips were a portion for a toddler. I do not understand why they skimp on chips that are clearly cheap, just fill people up!! Lovely atmosphere though, I’d come back for drinks when the barmaid isn’t working and wouldn’t order food. Honestly, I’m aggrieved I paid that for what I got.

Had an amazing Christmas party here. Food was OK. But service and entertainment was fabulous. Alison & Sophia (not sure how to spell or if I got the names right) where looking after our table and deserve recognition as there where just brilliant. But all the staff were amazing and really friendly. Thank you for making our night special

Starter was excellent...main course was absolutely disgusting...I know it's time for Christmas parties and they were really busy...but our mains were dry..the crust on pie needed a sledge hammer to get into it...fish n chips..once through the batter no fish...absolutely disappointed after reading up on the reviews

We booked this venue for our Bowls Festive Lunch, 15 of us.The Staff were ready for us, extremely attentive & accommodating. The food very tasty with large portions (especially the roast turkey) and the dining room, beautifully decorated & perfect for larger parties. A good start to Christmas. Cannot fault, will definitely come again.

We had the best tasting Sunday roast we’ve had from a pub or restaurant in a long time, ample portion size and great flavour. Staff were super friendly and suitably attentive, definitely value for money. We will absolutely be returning for more!

We stumbled across this gem on the way back from a random day out in Stratford Upon Avon and a stay at Warwick. We was trying to find somewhere that could fit us in at 3pm for Sunday roast. They managed to get us a table, so we headed over. They seated us fairly quickly and brought us the menus, then took around 20-25 minutes to come and take our drinks order but we were ready to order our mains by then. Our fault really, cause we was already hungry and we know we was after a roast, so could have ordered straight away, when being seated. They had a large group in (a table of approx 12), plus a table of 6, so could have been some of the delay, loads of people outside, as an unusually warm day for October and sport was on. The waitresses were all lovely and very caring, only scored down, cause I had to chase my olives and the wait of the food order. The size of my olive portion was extremely small, they came out in the little white sauce pot container, there was 2 garlic cloves, a piece of dried tomato and approx 8 olives, I was expecting something the size a ramekin dish and approx double that for nearly £3, however, they were very tasty. Omg the food was AMAZING!!! Best roast I've had in ages! We both had the beef and wasn't disappointed, we ordered a side of cauliflower cheese, which was also cooked perfectly! Everything was delicious, my 1 criticism is the long steam broccoli, should have been cut a little smaller, as a little tough towards the ends but I wouldn't eat that anyway, i just accidentally ate too far down, as was enjoying my food so much lol and maybe a pot of Gravy for the table, as I like a bit for my Yorkshire but I don't want it to be soggy, so needs to be poured on and eaten lol. That's a personal preference of course. Also the roast is so reasonably priced and a lot for your money! A wonderful meal and a place I would 100% recommend, I would definitely visit again, if I was in the area.

I went into the nightingale to wind down after a long day at work and was welcomed by by the very polite bar manager. I had a great conversation with him about how the day was going and enjoyed a pint. Would highly recommend getting yourself down to this joint! 😃

We were looking for a venue that would welcome & cater for children and of course adults.. definitely recommended The Nightingale our server was a lovely American lady who checked & double checked to make sure everyone’s order was correct. The Sunday roasts are delicious especially the red cabbage and they also cater for GF & a good variety of deserts. Friendly welcoming staff & Landlord very clean inside & plenty of seating outside.. 10/10 nightingale team. Jo

The Nightingale was suggested to us as a good place to have lunch and did not disappoint. We were warmly welcomed, the food was excellent and the service was really good. I would definitely recommend it.

We have been to many events at the Nightingale which have all been good fun but the Rock and Roll bingo was absolutely amazing, everyone was singing and having a laugh, the atmosphere was brilliant. The staff as always made everyone feel welcome and cannot do enough for you.

A disappointing experience at our favourite pub. We'd booked a table for 12 noon but the staff were insistent their system showed 10:30am. If it had been changed, it wasn't in consultation with us and we received no notification. I showed my email confirmation of 12 noon. They were really helpful and eventually found us a table in a corner. Waited quite a while for our food. One chicken caesar salad, half a plateful (not worth the money), and a baked potato, which was cold. Not what we are used to and will think again about going again any time soon. Sorry.

This place is fantastic and still keeps getting better. We always leave the nightingale happy, it’s so easy to book a table and very friendly for family’s. We have gone many times but just wanted to make a point that we went there to see the England women’s World Cup finals and there was such a great atmosphere the table we booked were labled to make it easy for us to find, we were escorted by such an amazing lady, Alison I swear is always working when we go and she makes our experience fantastic every time, what a wonderful lady ❤️ she really takes her time to make everything perfect for you with a smile on her face, another person to mention would be Marie she was rushed off her feet behind the bar but still had a smile on her face and an amazing attitude towards everyone. All the staff are great just wanted to toot some horns 😊❤️ thank you xx

This is Bicester's hidden gem! Called in for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. Really good food, well cooked and delicious, and great value too. Keiran and the Team were on the ball. Attentive, swift and courteous. This pub has such a lovely feel to it, a real community hub. Exactly how a pub should be ❤️

Our first visit since the refurb. Very comfortable. We were quite early for lunch and it was quiet, but the service was great and very friendly. The food was quickly served and excellent.

The service was very good (quick) and the people were nice, shame about the loud TV showing sport on a Sunday lunchtime. The roast dinner was appalling the so called roast potatoes looked par-boiled at best (definitely not roasted) and all the vegetables were virtually uncooked in fact my daughter actually had a raw carrot. The cauliflower cheese was no more than undercooked cauliflower with some cheese melted over it with no cheese sauce so very dry and hard. On the plus side the beef was okay and the Yorkshire was nice. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress she did apologise and offer to get us some more vegetables, but what was the point of more raw veg. We won’t be returning again.

Had dinner with my dad here this evening. He had fish and chips which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had nachos with chilli. The chilli was banging! Loved it, so tasty. Wonderful service with a smile by Kieran and a lovely young lad who I am so sorry I can't remember his name! Dad left his cap inside and Kieran made a point of coming outside to catch us and hand it back. Thanks guys. Highly recommended x

We visited this pub for a family birthday lunch yesterday and were not disappointed. The customer service was standout 👌🏻 only nag would be the roast potatoes were too big, not cooked enough and not crispy or crunchy at all but hey. The Nightingale will be our new half way meet for our family. 5*

Not been for a while. Got distracted and left my wallet on the table with a considerably amount of money in. After the distraction I sat elsewhere. I was approached by an amazing customer of the pub with my wallet with everything in tact. I hope he does not suffer from a hangover tomorrow.

It’s a very nice place. With great and helpful employees. When you need a place to have a party, this is the place to have it.
