My girlfriend and I visited here this week, staff were so so lovely and helpful towards us, and also gave us a couple extra spuds in our yorkshire pudding wrap because theyre the soundest ever. Food was soooo tasty, beef would melt in your mouth, gravy was gorg, and it was the perfect amount for us. Seating area was delightful as we could look out on the street below and people watch. Will 100% be back, very disappointed that i cant have it every day!!

My first time here. Ordered the Turkey meal to eat in. Also asked for a coffee. I was told coffee was not available? I went upstairs with the food. The carrots were stone cold, gravy was congealed and lukewarm ,wooden knife and folk were useless and I struggled to cut up the Yorkshire Pudding ( this had been reheated in the oven before the turkey and vegetables were put in it ) I left most of it. Upstairs there was a poster on the wall advertising your fresh coffee made with coffee beans? Sorry, but will not return here

Honestly drove from Essex as the hype of the Yorkie wrap and roast potato's with gravy and i was really disappointed the food didn't taste of anything the only thing I can say is the carrots were sweet and nice the rosties was a big disappointment. I wouldn't recommend it if that's what your going for, I have had better roast dinners at Toby carvery. For theoney definitely not worth it either

Massively disappointed, came here years ago, hot beef/pork etc sandwiches used to big and make you super full.. came here today and what a disappointment. Ate my beef sandwich with 2 bites 🤦. I wanted pork at first but was no pork crackling. Roast potatoes were Luke warm and not even crispy. It's really expensive aswell. Your best off just going to the butchers !. Didn't like the cleanliness of the place ethier. The meat is stored in a draw which looks like it's sat in warm water. The staff just grab the meat with their gloves and also touch everything else at the same time. Pointless having gloves in my opinion. Looks appealing from window have 3 roasts on show with crackling but can't even get crackling on your sandwich. Seen a few reviews saying there's no crackling so it must be a normal thing. Changed massively so won't be returning.

I wasn’t aware that this was a franchise/chain, but we used to have one of these in my local city and I’ll be honest that wasn’t a great experience. But let’s be honest, this is the equivalent of fast food with a Roast theme, kind of a cross between Greggs and McDonald’s. The large Yorkshire puddings are obviously masses produced as they are uniform in size and shape, and they aren’t heated prior to serving. I was astounded that the meat was weighed on a scales prior to being added to my pudding, the roast potatoes resembled something that had been frozen and then reheated, and the veg was far from being fresh, the only thing that was good was the gravy, and this is a pretty low bar to achieve. As for the service I can’t say it was friendly, warm or inviting, and while I’m sure they are rushed off their feet throughout the day, I’d still expect a little something extra. It’s great if you want something quick which is of a similar standard to any other fast food chain, but for the price there is better out there.

Very poor. Would not go back to this place. The food was barely luke warm. It was swamped in gravy (like a soup!), the portions of meat were pitifully small. I paid for an extra portion of pork and I wish I hadn't, it was not worth it. The staff were very apologetic. Lots of other places to try in York - go for them instead. It's a huge nope from me! After a 20min wait we made our order and decided to eat inside. The place is understaffed and many customers pointed out how stressed one of the staff members seemed. We ate indoors. The tables and chairs and mismatched and dirty. My wrap had no cranberry sauce (which I said twice making my order). Wrap was horribly burnt and vegetables tasted odd. Left a funny/bad taste in our mouths. I was too timid to approach the stressed staff to make a complaint. Used the toilet. Wish I'd waited till I'd gotten home. Filthy! I can understand the lower reviews from others. I suppose it does come down to expectations so I can see that considering price for what you get is a little boarder line. That said we had the roast pork with pudding and veg and the beef with veg. Both meats were tasty and fresh. The beef in particular was lovely and tender. The gravy and stuffing ball tasted good as did the Yorkshire pudding. Sadly the potatoes didn’t seem as fresh, kind of dry and crumbly. They may have been waiting around for awhile 🤷♀️ The staff were friendly and obviously working very hard. Generally we were happy with full bellies at the end of our meal and it was a lovely bit of comfort food on a rainy winters day in York.

Went here recommended by a friend who lived in York. Was told about the Yorkshire pudding wrap so we had a festive special one (only over Christmas, with pigs in blanket and stuffing) and a double beef one. Have to say was quite enjoyable and definitely something unique I had never had before. The only thing that was quite off-putting was the cleanliness. Want to reiterate this is a festive season with many more customers due to the Christmas market so suspect the staff were quite stretched but, that being said, every single surface and handle was covered in something sticky (sauce I suppose) and I definitely saw veggies that had been put on a meaty wrap being put back into the communal tub, which I suppose is also used for vegetarian options? I'm not vegetarian but would not eat there if I was given what I saw and the use of the grills to heat up the wraps not being clean. Other than that, for meat eaters, the wrap is a good portion, well filled, tastes good and if you can put the cleanliness away (or try not to look like I did since it's an open kitchen) then you'll definitely enjoy it. Lovely staff too!

Had heard all about these Yorkshire Pudding Wraps on social media and from friends so on a recent trip decided to try one. I had to wait 20-30 minutes In a queue of people so I thought we'll this clearly must be worth it. When I finally ordered my food from a member of staff who couldn't even say hello to me and mention anything about the wait time being a pain, she then proceeded to mumble through my order and thankfully she got it right but I didn't even know that until I received my receipt. Upon receiving my order, which was two pork yorkshire wraps and a side of roasties I found that the roast potatoes were lukewarm at best and the wrap itself was OK at best but to say I Paid £10 each for these wraps I was not very impressed with just OK, the pork was alright but there wasn't very much of it and the vegetables you could tell had been boiled from frozen and again there was hardly any in there and the pudding itself was probably the only part that tasted anything like it should have but for £10 I expected a lot more value for my money. Very disappointing to say I could have cooked a whole pork joint and the fresh vegetables, fresh toasties and a fresh pudding for myself, my partner and two children for less that I had paid. To top it off my partner is now complaining of stomach aches and been very poorly since having it so I'm questioning the safety of the way they prepare the food. Do yourself a favour and find a local pub and pay a little extra for a proper dinner because this isn't worth it, not for the price it is no way.

Overpriced tourist trap. Ordered a pork sandwich, received a Yorkshire pudding wrap. Ordered a beef festive dinner. Received turkey. Problem with till and payment. Pork scratchings covered in hair, were dry as a bone, incredibly difficult to chew and should not have been served. Two lads 'preparing' the food completed approx 3 orders per hour between them. Food was room temperature at best. Young lady on till clearly new and was being told what to do by a colleague in an unprofessional manner in front of guests. Window in the upstairs seating area covered in months worth of cobwebs. Claimed to be 'family run' - this place hasn't had anyone working there that's willing to put their family name to it for years.

Long queues, cold food and staff were simply rude. A 20 minute queue for a lukewarm yorkshire pudding wrap containing a few shreds of turkey, some vegetable mush and the wrong sauce, accompanied by some stone cold roast potatoes in a coffee cup half full of gravy. Coupled with incredibly rude staff and filthy facilities (dirt smeared on the walls of the toilet which didn't look like it had seen a cleaner in a long time) this ironically slow "Fast-food" style take on the British roast is probably best avoided. Anyone who dared to poke their heads in the door to look at the menu or, in the case of two older ladies, try to meet up with their friends in the seating area were verbally blasted by one of the miserable looking staff attending one of the pots of filling - a bain-marie with what appeared to be a carrier bag inside. Visited the Stone gate/Goodram Gate restaurant on 30/10/24 mid afternoon when it was not very busy. Despite this the service was at a snail's pace and staff seemed very disengaged. Once I'd paid at the till I could see terrible state of food prep area, vwry messy, food hygiene gloves and scraps of food littered the floor, while the person at the till said he had to wait until he could take the next order as there was a backlog but just stood there looking bored instead of finding a broom to clear the area. When our food was made, we went upstairs to seating area only to find the most disgusting site, dirty tables, bins overflowing, and a filthy floor and walls. Went back down to ask if there was anyone avaliable to give area a clean and was told by staff member that there was spray and blue roll to clean it ourselves. Food was tasty but very slim pickings in terms of meat and tbh if I'd had seen the state of the seating and prep area before ordering I'd have stayed well away. Considering people left reviews about the state of the place over a month ago I would expect it to have been adressed by now. Emailed directly, no response hence the review. The food was lovely, I can't fault it at all, the staff also lovely, and I was so lucky to arrive when there was no queue so I was served instantly. The reason behind the 3 stars (would be 5 if it wasn't for this) I'm assuming the owner, came downstairs and told the staff behind the counter not to let anyone other than customers use the toilet (completely fair especially in a tourist trap area) but the way this was directed at the employees was rather abrupt, and rude and it was repeated multiple times infront of me waiting for my order. I'm sure they understood the first time. As someone who's worked in hospitality for over 10 years, and has a few years as a duty manager under the belt, barking orders to your employees isn't how you should conduct yourself at all, but to do so infront of or in the vicinity of your customers (where they're able to hear) is absolutely inappropriate and I'm confident will have made the staff feel embarrassed. I agree that paying customers only should have access, and if staff members haven't followed the rules absolutely they should be put straight, but never infront of other employees and especially not customers. I do hope this is taken as advice, because it truly is, show the incredible staff you have some integrity and recognition.

We decided to eat here as the roasted meats in the window looked amazing. The gentleman was very polite and helpful who served my husband. That's about the only good thing about the experience here. I went upstairs to find us a table. The whole place looked very dirty and uninviting. The wooden knives and forks were useless that were provided to eat our meal. The food was very underwhelming, we had a Yorkshire pudding beef wrap. The meat was very tender, but not very flavourful. It tasted of not alot, the veg inside was very overcooked. It was edible. Bland is the word I would use. When we finished our meal we both used the bathrooms provided. They were absolutely filthy. They need a deep clean. Such a shame as the food looked really good from the outside.

Nothing great honestly. The bread pudding was rather tough.

Avoid. Service was just as cold and limp as the Yorkshire Pudding roast. Frozen veg and pudding with bland gravy. Meat was edible. Asked for crackling but told it was only for display purposes. Served in boxes with wooden cutlery. Ate upstairs but wished we hadn’t. Tables filthy, boxes of half eaten dinners left on tables that had clearly been there a while. Do not waste your money, very disappointed.

The wrap I had wasn't very nice, and the seating area upstairs needs a good clean, 2 wraps, and some pork scratchings £21 so it's not really worth it, I was disappointed, the staff was friendly.

Hate to say this but it was a rip off. 2 small pieces of beef in a badly unholdable wrap. It all hype with no delivery. It something made famous by instagram but in reality its just overpriced hype

The staff was professional and fast. The ordering area and the waiting area are mixed, so it was a bit chaotic. The beef wrap was disappointing. Very bland, not much beef inside. Stuff like this is giving the British cuisine a bad reputation.

Walked in and queued up, the amount of flies in there put me off immediately. All meat, vegetables and potatoes uncovered. Not worth the tummy bug.

Had a Yorkshire Wrap with turkey, and it was lovely - the order was taken quickly but was a little slow to make, this is because it was all made fresh to order. The dining area upstairs could have done with being a little cleaner as the tables were a little sticky, but all the available staff were dealing with an influx of lunchtime customers so this was a genuine oversight. Definitely recommended

It was not a good experience. The food was terrible. Half of the menu was unavailable. What was available was barely edible and unfortunately, cold. You can tell this has been this way a while, as the place was not busy at all for a Saturday evening. We left half our meals. The staff were excellent though, and were very accommodating. Safe to say we'll give this place a miss in the future.

I hate writing reviews especially like this!! I always visit this place and love coming here. However last 5-6 occasions I’ve come and realised they have so many items missing. No ketchup, mayo ( that’s three time now) I’ve come and not available. Today, no water bottles AGAIN not available, no chips this time either, and guess what NO KETCHUP OR MAYO yet again. Come on guys get a grip how can so many items be out of stock and this to keep happening. Surely order more you’re a business let’s not sink it to the ground just like many things that are disappearing these days. Decisive action needed !
