Warm up chips, burnt to a crisp never again .

Food was lovely.Hot, fast delivery and fasted good

Unfortunately, this will be the first and last time I order from here chips are more like they’ve been cooked a week ago and re cooked every day since

45 min wait...for fish and yesterdays already overcooked chips. Customers ordering chinese in situ, got served before us. Diabolical service, at least 1 customer demanded money back, and very poor quality. Won't be visiting again.

The food quality and price to food ratio are beyond fair and amazing. Very tasty and enjoyable which I’ve found hard in York. It’s my go to. Staff are very friendly and make the visit a pleasant and easy going experience. Highly recommend to all.

Chinese food was good. It has a really good chippy too. Unfortunately you can only pay cash. That's the only reason I haven't ordered as I don't carry cash.

The fish is very nice from here, the chips are the sort you would make at home (or atleast I do) chunky and I don't know another fish shop that gives you so many it's massive. There is no sit down but I think there is delivery.

Went for tea, use this takeaway normally once a week haven't used since before Christmas so decided it was time to have one, chicken curry was so watery it was tasteless might be a while before we use again

Great family run takeaway, sensible prices, food is excellent every time I visit. Everyone is very friendly and a great variety of food. They even do delivery too.

Best battered sausage in York. I read that you can pay £40 for posh "one of each^ at flash hotels. Waste of money, they won't be any better than these!!

Overly expensive, bad quality food. Portions are good but the food is not.

Closes early before scheduled time.

Really frustrating because the chips themselves were actually good - chunky and well cooked - but really spoilt by being cooked in really old oil. It's false economy to hang on to old oil when it's well past its prime - the food cooked in it smells off and the taste is not nice either - heavy grease. They've lost a repeat customer because of this - I'll try elsewhere instead.

Always get great quality food and no corners cut so great value.

Excellent place for take away, we go regularly, last night it was fish and chips for 3 of us. Probably the best in York, fabulous price and always fresh with flaky haddock. The Chinese chips are chunky and delicious. We had 3 haddock and one portion of chips. We find you get a massive amount of chips for your money, so divided into three portions. The price was £16.80 with my NHS blue light discount. The Chinese meals are even cheaper and of excellent quality, the lunch time special is brilliant too. A fantastic place to eat and they deliver for a small fee. Fabulous food. Well done to all you friendly staff. 👍👋🙂

Great local independent chinese. We ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with Boiled Rice, and Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce with Fried rice. Both were good sized portions. The rice's were tasty, the boiled rice still had good texture and wasn't overcooked. The fried rice is just rice and egg (and soy sauce) and was very tasty. Sweet and Sour chicken, the chicken (in a very light batter) was cooled well and tasty on its own and the sauce was great, not too sweet or too vinegary but with a nice tang. Chicken in black pepper, again the chicken (plain) was cooked well, the sauce has a nice heat but not overpowering. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area, I know we will be having more from them. Update : the chicken fried rice is delicious (rice egg chicken peas) and the Singapore fried rice (think special fried rice with spice! Rice egg peas chicken char sui prawns beef) was great too

The food is home style chinese. Big portions bbq ribs are to die for. Not a fan of crispy seaweed made to order it by my dinning companion. I am now fantastic. Can not fault this takeaway. If you have chips with your mains one will do two. Enjoy

Everyone says the Chinese food in the UK is inauthentic but they just proved everyone wrong. The food here hit so close to home and is absolutely delicious! I ordered black pepper beef with fried rice, the food is served hot and with good portion. 10/10 would visit again.

I go here from fish and chips and got to say they are the best fish and chips in the country the fish is pure white and tastes like nothing else iv ever had cooked to perfection everytime

Great service, however they used to have the best chips in York, but the chips aren't as good as they used to be.

Awful!!I ordered a beef curry,there was a few bits of onion and beef that was chewy and that was it,no peas or mushrooms.. very disappointing

Food is gorgeous from this takeaway, this is our regular bearing in mind we drive across York for this! Good sized portions, and reasonable prices. Waiting area not great but for the food is manageable

Really like this take out, mostly because their fish and chips are amazing..and you get loads. For me..the best chippy in my area. Their native/traditional dishes are nice and you get enough. They do smaller portions for the kids and lunch time deals. Staff are always friendly and the prices are okay. We always get take out but they do delivery. They always get the order right.

Had fish and chips from here....the Chinese lady who took my order was very polite .... Fish was average...and chips was ok...These things are acceptable...but the most unacceptable thing is the attitude and rudeness of The English lady who served me food..in her late fifties..with her bl....dy.. Attitude...she served very nicely with the English white man before me very nicely.....But when she saw the brown skin....her../////..came out....

Thought this place had turned itself around, fish and chips for 3, friday tea time, - its now Saturday tea time, just finished buildind a shed with the chips, and using the grease off the fish as swarfega.

Been coming here on and off for the last year or so. Food has always been lovely, the owners/workers are friendly, and the portions are big! Prices are very reasonable to boot!

Was cold, had to re heat it.. The food tasted like it had been cooked in old oil. Overall not great unfortunately.

Gross, the guy kept coughing over all our food before giving us it. Then it was extremely greasy undercooked.

One of the best places in York for fish and chips Even thought a Chinese! The chips here are amazing!! Whenever I go anywhere else I am always comparing the chips to this place no where else measure up. Very friendly staff always amazing service! Keep up the great work

We have recently discovered the China Inn and I cannot fault it. Really good tastey food, the big juicy king prawns in their dishes are delicious! The chips are amazing, proper chip shop chips. We get it delivered to Leeman Road area and it's always on time and piping hot. The delivery man is lovely, so polite. We won't use any other takeaway now. Very happy customers.

For a chinese there fish and chips are flipping ace, nice and chunky, and no delivery charge. Love it.x

Chinese takeaways that open on a lunchtime are becoming rare and I was delighted when I found this one. The food is very nice, the chips are chunky with a great taste and the pancake rolls, are well filled and tasty. I must try the fish and hot dog sausages which apparently are great!

Great food , friendly staff and good prices

I only go to China Inn for their chips which are superb. Unbeatable value for probably the best chips I have ever tasted. The photo is the chips topped off with ketchup, mayo and fried onions.

I live across the road and the staff are really lovely and friendly. I don’t like Chinese food so can’t comment on that - but a friend said her wonton soup was great. What I can comment on is the fish and chips. Wowwww the chips. They get them delivered from a farm - whole proper mucky potatoes not bags of pre cut pre washed ones. They hand cut and fry them. Honestly the best chips I’ve ever had in my life. So fluffy and crispy. £2 portion could feed 4. The standard you get at a Michelin restaurant when they’d give you 5 single chips in a jenga pile. It’s a godsend they only take cash otherwise I’d eat them every day and be huge.

Never go anywhere else. It was closed during first wave so had to go somewhere else. Not a patch on China Inn. Special Curry no onions with spring rolls. Doesn't matter what I for I've not been disappointed

Food always been good , nice size portion (never been left hungry). If its not on the menu ask , they will make it if possible. Friendly staff.

There was only 1 person in the shop waiting for his order when I arrived but thereafter there was a steady flow of customers. My order of fish & chips took about 15 minutes as meals are cooked to order. The shop is a typical Chinese type take away fast food outlet with an Asian menu with some English dishes. My fish was beautifully cooked and larger than expected, as were the chips & I can recommend them.

I love the Chinese food from this place, eat there all the time, and their lunch menu deals are excellent. But never ever get the chips, they're greasy and inconsistently cooked and just naff. Fish & Sausages etc are passable, but I'd rather cook oven chips Also they're cash only so bear that in mind before you visit!

The portions of chips are huge, I normally ask for a small portion for £1, same amount as a normal portion elsewhere for much less money.

PLEASE DON'T EAT FROM THIS PLACE the food is unedible I wouldn't give it to my dog

Lovely food lovely people only down side, doesn't take card payments

I’m a bit of a food snob and in my 30+ years I’d never tried Chinese. I don’t eat greasy takeaways ever. A year after moving opposite China Inn I was reluctantly persuaded to try it. I hated it. But that’s probably the style of food. Then I tried the fish and chips. Wow; they’re amazing! Only £5.50 and sometimes you get two fish. I think 2 portions of fish and chips could easily feed 2 adults and 3 kids. The portions are massive. The chips are hand cut and honestly the best I’ve had. My partner gets them regularly now. The staff are covid conscious - masks, screens, gloves etc. Weirdly no customers ever wear masks. They’re a friendly team too. China Inn doesn’t look aesthetically glam but honestly the fish and chips are my favourite in York. It’s cash only.

Some weeks ago my daughter [keyworker] had left York District Hospital and passed the China Inn on her way home. Being tired after a long specialling - shift she called in to pay with her card..but the shop only took cash? She was asked about her day..and without a grumble..given some food for nothing by the grateful staff and thanked for her efforts. This was appreciated..and passed on to others. The food is pretty good and reasonable in price..and I've not had any real complaints in 10 plus years of using them? I've always been wary of take - away / chippy combinations..but this one's alright!!

The last 2 orders from here I’ve had a hair in my food both times. The curry sauce literally tastes like powder and has usually set to a strange jelly like substance by the time it reaches your address. Really not appetising. And the prices seem extortionate. On a better note though, their salt and pepper chips are amazing and a really big portion, but that doesn’t make it a decent meal unfortunately. So unless your only coming for salt and pepper chips and don’t mind your chances of eating a hair I’d say come here ✌🏼If not I suggest you order elsewhere.

Been here for a bout 10 years now... Amazing. Those special Chinese ingredients enhance every flavour. Delicious. Always the same quality which is exactly what you want from a takeaway. Find you're favourite, and it'll be the same everytime!

Old school firm ,but have lunchtime specials , english and chinese. Recomended is their Fish Pattie, a meal in itself.

Have come to this take away many times over the years but i am finished last 4 meals have been rubbish not sure why i kept going ordered last night it was awful i truly can't say one good thing i was not even eatable have tried telling them before how the meals were not good so now i am finished never again ...

I passed by today at China Inn and ordered Haddock and chips as it was on my walk home from town. The fish from here somehow surpasses what I've had from sit in restaurants in Whitby, for the money it is amazing quality and what you would expect from a dedicated coastal fish and chip shop. Chips also are fantastic, literally can't recommend this place highly enough.

Not for me ordered our first and yes you guessed our LAST Chinese from here. Awful very horrible we got the set meal for two the Chicken was dry and chewy (I had to spit it out!) the rice was dry too. I really could not get eat anymore of it the chicken put me right off. Would not recommend delivery driver was fab following government guidelines and was polite.

For me this is a very nice Chinese which just happens to be the most cost effective in york - Bonus !! The Chicken Foo yung is mouth wateringly good.

Odered 5.15 when it hadn't arrived by 6.30 rang told it was on it's way arrived 7.05 nearly 2hours. Chicken was woody duck was barely warm and one item paid for was missing.We ordered shortly after opening so should have been near the front of the delivery schedule.

Portion sizes are good but the quality of food isn't always the best

Telephone order for 19.15 rang at 18.50 not ready. Driver took two orders while I waited half an hour! In the shop outrageous.

Proper chippy chips and excellent Chinese food

This Chinese/chippy has become seriously run down. Went on Friday teatime when visiting York, place was empty and not particularly welcoming. Should have taken this as a sign but just looking for something quick so we ordered anyway.Played safe with house special curry and house special sweet and sour. On a positive note, the food was hot. Battered meat in the sweet & sour was incredibly tough and chewy and impossible to distinguish one meat from the next (apart from the prawns which were slightly fresher looking but didn’t taste of much). I suspect the other meat had been cooked off previously and reused. Sweet and sour was generic takeaway sauce from a packet. Noodles ok.The curry sauce was awful - tasteless and chalky. Meat also tasteless. Fried rice was greasy and odd tasting.Years back this was a decent takeaway, but based on this experience I’d be surprised if it’s still open at Christmas.

This is by far the best Chinese take away you will not be disappointed it is excellent value for money and free delivery

Been having Chinese from here for 4 years now and never once had an issue with the food or the service, yes sometimes they forget to leave the onions out of the food when I ask but we all make mistakes! Never been to a different Chinese since!
