Pak Ho Chop Suey in York

We have been using this Chinese for years and the food never disappoints. Much higher quality food than other restaurants in the area. Large portions of chicken and delicious dishes. Highly recommend!

Literally the only Chinese I go to in York, even though others are nearer. Never had a bad meal from here. The salt and pepper king prawn is particularly tasty.

AVOID! ive never been so disappointed in chinese food before, i ordered a chicken chow mein a very standard dish, it was £8 of inedible slop, it had this wierd white runny liquid running through it like a soup, the vegetables were slimy and the chicken didn't even look cooked properly and was slightly pink in the middle, was actually disgusting on every level i would not wish this """food""" upon my worst enemy

Literall slop, one of the worst things I've ever bought, £8 for noodles that looked like white sludge

The food from this chinese is absolute filth please avoid it i dont like giving bad reviews to small businesses but in this case i have no choice i have had a upset tummy since eating out of here my husbands food had a strange taste he said he thought it had gone bad so he left he's there really is lots of bettet chinese in york avoid this one

Absolutely terrible food nasty lady behind the till it's my own fault I should of looked at all the terrible reviews before ordering I just wanted something quick as I'm in the hotel across the road

Pak Ho is one of the best Chinese in York for me. The salt and pepper dishes have never changed and they should never! They’re the best. Pak Ho is on the pricey side but you pay for what you get with the quality. Delivery driver is always lovely too!

Food was great though owner a tad rude.

The food was quite nice but the woman behind the counter taking orders was really rude and abrupt to my wife - decor from the 80’s not that it bothered us, cash only? I wonder why? - we won’t be going back.

Firstly I would have rated this 5 stars but on arrival I was told it was cash only and had to go looking for a cash machine this was not mentioned when I telephoned my order. However the food was really tasty. King prawns with ginger and spring onions King prawn curry Chicken chowmein All the portion sizes were very good and the food was very tasty and well worth a visit Remember its cash only 👍

We were glad to find the Pak Ho Chop Suey takeaway after a long journey on Sunday evening. We parked directly outside and were relieved to have sufficient currency as they don't take credit or debit cards. We actually enjoyed the minimal décor, and food, a throwback to thirty years ago. The place was clean, social distancing and mask wearing by staff, if not all customers. The Chinese vegetable spring rolls were large and filling, thin, crispy (not thick) crusts, carrots, bamboo shoots and lots of bean sprouts. The Chinese-style spare ribs were generous and for mains we had the King Prawn Chop Suey and the Sweet and sour Prawns, with fried rice (just a dit dry). Service was quick and helpful – the broken English just adds to the experience. We plan to go again when in the area.

The food was ok but the lady behind the counter is rude and curt.

Worst Chinese I have EVER had ....ordered a chow mein which was basically a load of thin noodles flung 9n with a few beansprouts and a smattering of meat and 1 x prawn. Cant describe what the prawn toast was....tasted like eggy bread or French toast.

Okay food, but the edges of the noodle pile in my vegetarian chow mein were burnt (~10% of the noodle volume). They also don't take card

This was our takeaway from Pak Ho after much research. Being over eighty we are still trying to avoid public places. I must say that we were very impressed with the service, it arrived spot on time even though we were told they could not guarantee it, The food was very good, I had Satay King Prawn chow mien, the helping was huge with plenty of prawns and with lots of flavour, just could not manage to eat it all unfortunately. Myhusband had King Prawn curry and was also impressed. We will definitely use again,

Very good takeaway have had no problems been using them for years

Staying in York, decided to have a Chinese found this takeaway. The worst food we had on our 4 day holiday. Main dishes were watery and tasteless. Chicken chow Mein burnt mush only half full container ended up in bin anyway. Take my advice and keep going and spend your money somewhere else.

Had a mix grill liver was over cooked and hard. The piece of steak was also over cooked and very hard and they was a tea spoon of gravy. Will never order mix grill from here again.

Placed order around 9.15 on sat with a delivery time of 10.15 as that is the time I would be home. They rang shortly after to explain they had run out of prawn toast ! And there last delivery slot was 9.45 ........ on Saturday ? Really ? Luckily someone was in to receive order

We made an order our chicken chow mein was all burnt and only half full in the tub, I rang up to tell them the lady didn't care at all she just said ok I'll tell the chief she never once said sorry to me, we've had a few orders from these and every single time weve ring up the lady is extremely rude. We rang up tonight the lady told us we had to spend a tiny bit more for delivery so we added prawn crackers to make up the order for her to tell us we'll still be getting charged for delivery so we told her that's not right so she said do u want to cancel? then obviously we said yes but absolutely rude as hell, definitely need a new member of staff on reception!!! Never again will we order from you!

Not as good as usual. Ribs weren't very nice and the prawn crackers didn't seem fresh. It's normally all great but tonight was a bit of a disappointment.

The chicken seemed very dry and tough and the fried rice was slightly overcooked a little bit burnt, as I know it was a later delivery as they called me to see if I could have it earlier than ordered which was fine, maybe my order was just kept warm till it was ready to be delivered,

Ordered for when my husband got in from work at 8.30,delivered at 7.40!!! Reheated Chinese for him!

Would’ve been a full five star rating for service and quality if they’d remembered all the food and it was all hot!. Unfortunately one dish was missing and had to be re-delivered after a phone call and several items were lukewarm while others scorching hot. Also, no complimentary prawn cracker on an order of £40? Seems a bit mean. Not quite the service we expected after family recommendation.

Awful meal. Rice was very dry, crispy beef in Cantonese had hardly any sauce and portion very small. Special chowmein was 40% huge chunks of onion, 50% burnt noodles and 10% way overcooked veg. Char sui was grey, chewy and utterly tasteless. Salt and pepper crispy chicken was rubbery and had far too much chilli. So much that you couldn't even taste any pepper, just chilli. First time ordering with them because top of customer reviews. Either they've had a really bad day or the people of York have no tastebuds...

Rec’d 2hours after ordering, said asp but was not to bothered when it stated 19.20 but it came at 20.15 and only warm. Food was ok as it usually is, but only warm.

Everything was great, no issues.

Portions have got very small and the delivery driver charge an extra £1 for delivery even though iv already paid it on just eat. Don't think I'll order again from here 😪

Good as always was wonderfully tasty and hot, unfortunately on this occasion restaurant didn't read delivery time requested and delivered an hour early.

We have started using this takeaway more and more because it never alters it’s always excellent.

what a lovely delivery driver! a real asset. Food good, well cooked and not greasy. chow mein excellent. would have liked more info on the menu before ordering as was looking for some meat free options and could not tell if pancake rolls or wontons were veggie (they’re not!).

Pak Ho is our go to Chinese in York and has always been faultless each time we've been. The quality of the food is superb, it's always fresh and delivered / ready to be collected at the promised time.

Gorgeous food, always arrives hot and on time. Don't order often as hubby's favourite is sweet and sour balls which aren't on the menu, but great when he fancies something different!

Quick, but very average food.. egg fried rice was burnt and we had to drive back to collect a fresh one. Spring rolls great, special fried rice fine not great, prawn toast sloppy and greasy

Food was on time but missed items out. When we called them we were told we would have to wait till the delivery driver was back and the rude women on the phone didnt know when this would be. Never received my missing items but paid for them. Was told I should repeat my order in future funny how it was ordered online!!! Never ordering again and that's now 3 times in a row weve had a problem!!!

Was 30 mins after confirmed time and the mixed grill was just liver. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Very nice quality food, very authentic! Only change I would suggest is to add the option for sesame seed prawn toast rather than just without! Other than that near perfect!

The first time we ordered from here through just eat the food was on time and fabulous. however the second time we were told they don’t deliver to Bishopthorpe via the app so had no choice but to phone in the order. One hour later we called to be told no order received !!! So after waiting for one hour so no reason we decided to order from silver pearl instead - be v careful when ordering by phone !!

Not great chinese runny watery sauces, rice noodles for chow mein, chicken watery like it's been defrosted from freezer, chips been sat in fryer for while and a lot of bruised bits! wouldn't recommend.

Don’t buy food from here if you want to eat it as it does not turn up. Ladies at restaurant is rude and keeps putting phone down on you. Never again

Always fantastic but delivered tiny spring rolls when i ordered the big pancake rolls. Will defo use again because like i said it's always great food. Maybe next time pit a small note on the order....

Worst I've ever had from this place, normally great but the chow mein was gloopy and almost cold. Prawn toast and spring rolls were super greasy and also almost cold. My dinner has ended up with me mostly nibbling on prawn crackers. Not sure I'd order from here again

Food never arrived. Called 5 times and they acknowledged my order and even said they would be here soon but the last time I called they claimed they had no evidence of an order.

First time order and left a good impression. Food arrived 20min early. Hot and fresh. Friendly delivery with a smile. Followed instructions. Food was as hoped. Curry sauce tasted really nice, good friend rice duck. Needs a little bit more veg other than that nice. Spring rolls perfect. Would order from again. Thought i would try it as all oder Chinese takeaways i used to order from before had bad press recently.

Very good value. Delivery estimated at an hour, but arrived within 20mins or less. Special Fried Rice - no King Prawns, but very generous quantities of prawns and everything else. Was told the Char Siu Foo Yung was good too.
