Caffe Nero in York

Average Caffè Nero, although it was busy mostly with tourists by the sound of the accents. Fast service, drinks ok, two flat whites. Disappointing toilets, not clean and there was an amazing amount of water on it, dangerous to those with mobility issues. Cleaning chart on the wall didn’t indicate any inspection since the shop opened.

A pit stop yesterday with the family as we passed by, a lovely hand crafted oat flat white coffee ☕, americano ☕ and a cup of tea. There was only one staff member working and although visibly extremely busy managed to make our order with perfect precision and with a smile on her face. God knows why the staff member was on their own, there was a little queue and the store therefore needed a tidy, dining area cleaning up, but there was no chance the staff member could do that whilst being on her own. Hopefully Café Nero will help resolve this from happening again...

Today was the first visit to this Caffè Nero in the centre of York. As it’s part of a chain you generally know what to expect if you have been to other branches but this visit was disappointing. It was relatively early(around 09:30) so they weren’t rushed off their feet but the place was not at all welcoming. The barista who made my coffee filled it absolutely to the brim, so that as soon as I touched it the coffee spilled over. Also because it was put on a counter which was almost at my eye level it was very difficult and uncomfortable to try to pick up the tray. He did bring a couple of serviettes over but if he had been properly trained, that wouldn’t have happened. Poor selection of gf bars; overpriced. I popped into the loo before leaving-the actual toilet was filthy and had to be cleaned before I could use it. The area was generally grubby and apparently had been cleaned only once the previous day and not at all today🤷‍♀️ I certainly won’t be going to this cafe again.

Went in on evening of Saturday 24th February 2024 at around 6pm. Long queue and only the trainee was making drinks, whilst the more senior team member just stood by the counter sipping his drink and looked at the ever-growing queue.

Tables not cleared. Dirty. Not cosy. Air conditioning blows cold air on customers

Dirty,drab, and dreary coffee house. The staff kept dropping things on the floor and the coffee was like tar. I understand it was the end of the day, but still .

I was a Gen Xer when I came in but a Boomer by the time I got served.

I stopped here for a tea and something to eat, it was good polite staff and comfortable seats. Five stars from me!

No better than the last time I visited. Pleasant staff, run off their feet. Tables left uncleared. What comes first when the place is understaffed and customers are waiting?? Coffees or table clearing??

A trainee barista served me and made my order perfectly, delivering excellent friendly service. Her colleague (presumably her trainer) was extremely patient and worked very efficiently. I have worked in hospitality before and know how awkward it can feel, being the newest employee when you aren’t quite as fast as your colleagues, so it was wonderful to see patience and kindness on both sides!

Smart coffee chain outlet. Didn't seem uncomfortably busy.

A lovely team behind the counter greeted us, all with a big smile. We had two oat milk porridge, two ginger shots and two large black Americanos. The porridge was delicious, its one of my favourite breakfast dishes when out and about and vegan options are scarce, you can always rely on Caffe Nero. Coffee was great too.

Nichts zu meckern. Service war schnell, cafe war gut und die Preise echt in Ordnung (der große Cappuccino ist wirklich riesig). Wirklich schön war auch die Atmosphäre im hinteren Teil (vorne ist es etwas hektischer). Vom Kuchen und den Snacks haben wir nichts probiert, aber sie sahen sehr lecker und verlockend aus.

We stopped in the Caffè Nero in York for a pistachio latte and a cheesecake slice (treat) whilst sightseeing York. Friendly staff. Lovely food. Nice atmosphere. The toilets were clean and easy to find. Great prices. Highly recommend the Caffè Nero app. I would visit again and recommend to friends and family.

It was OK but que was moving very slow. Staff were doing well to manage.

Just been served by a lovely gentleman, who made me the best oat milk chai latte I've ever had. Very polite and friendly. The café looked clean and tidy and I will be back again.

I come in almost daily to get coffee before work, the staff are lovely and fast with their service. They offer a wide range of drinks and have vegan friendly options too! 🫶🏼

Delicious food and drinks. It took a while to be served and then quite a wait for the coffees. Also there was only one toilet, which caused yet another queue.

Absolutely love this branch, best out of the 3 in York. Staff are always lovely, especially silva who always has a smile on her face and extra specially kind and always going out of her way for customers, when she walks she lights up the room with her energy. I refuse to have anyone else take my order or make my drink as I only want the best service and that is what she delivers. Queues are sometimes long if you go at the wrong time!

Busy cafe in the heart of York. Coffee and food were very good. Only downside was the failure to clear tables after use. We did it ourselves so no problem really. Will definitely pay a return visit when in York.

Out of all the chain coffee shops, Nero servers the better coffee and had the best atmosphere - nice and busy without being noisy and overbearing.

Always good service here, even though it can get quite busy. Lovely location in one of York's pretty little squares. Great selection of coffees and cakes. Clean and tidy and staff very helpful. ☕☕☕☕☕

Coffee is usually really good, though the last time I went they made my drink differently to how it's been every other time- but it was probably just a one time mistake

Nice coffee, friendly staff, but the café is somewhat dark with a low ceiling, and has only one rather grubby toilet for guests which leads to big queues at times.

Great Dog friendly cafe, the lemon meringue cheese cake was very good, the wife liked the black forest gateau, coffee and hot chocolate are always excellent. Was very busy on our visit and quite a queue for service but the staff were working flat out, excellent job.

Staff had no clue about Gluten free options ended up getting a black folder out from under counter and could only offer flapjack nothing hot Ladies toilets disgusting with sanitary bin over flowing with dirty products sticking out top at 10.20 in the morning no disable toilets .

Opens early on a Sunday morning thank god... Had a lovely latte and seasonal coffee early Sunday, the place was a godsend the girls were lovely.. Can't comment on food really.. Everywhere's great when quiet though isn't it tbh 😁

Quite busy place, but handful of choices . It was a really busy morning with only two girls on shift . Although they were really friendly and cheerful. Many cake and food options to choose from - as well as drinks. Definitely would come back here.

Updated Queues are more frequent. Sometimes has been best part of 10 minutes to get a coffee. Overcharged last week as well. Will stop using. Reviewed a few months back - Generally a great place to have a coffee and maybe a light bite. Used this branch many times, staff are always friendly. Sometimes a bit of a queue. Much better than the branch in Davygate.

Our favourite cafe Nero in York. Consistently excellent coffee served by friendly and efficient staff. The downside for us is that sometimes it becomes too busy especially during the tourist season with visitors and due to its one floor small layout there are no seats available and we have to come back later when it's less busy

My go to coffee shop as it is near my house and near my work. I am a regular customer and here almost every day. I usually order an iced chai which the staff often explain isn’t actually on the menu but they’re happy to make. Fantastic service going above and beyond for the customer which is why I always return. Today I went in and asked for my usual drink and a member of staff I had not met before barked at me that they do not do iced chai. That’s absolutely fine. I was about to just order an iced latte instead when another member of staff that I have been served by before (who is always lovely and helpful) mentioned that he would be happy to make it. The aforementioned member of staff then yelled at him that he is not allowed to and all in all was incredibly rude to me but even more so to him (who was just trying to do his job!!). Not sure if this woman is management or just feels above her station but if she is in management she shouldn’t be. I can’t imagine being so rude to your own staff and customers. At least now I know what she looks like and to make a sharp u-turn if I’m about to go in again and see her! What an awful experience. ): needless to say I left without ordering anything today and just went to pret around the corner instead lol

This location is very close to where I work but was very disappointed with a lukewarm very milky very wimpy cortado that hardly wet the bottom of my cup (incidentally I bought my own cup to save on waste but didn't get the 50p off the drink that all the other chains offer!!). Mediocre service, filthy cafe and all this for £2.65, daylight robbery. Won't go there ever again.

The coffee is spot on, always has been. But the cleanliness at this coffee shop is shockingly dirty. The staff quickly wipe down the table but don’t sweep or have high cleaning standards. I found crumbs everywhere around the table I sat on, food on the floor, stains and even a web on the top floor. Yuk! How do they get away with such low cleaning standards in this pandemic beats me. Definitely not following HACCAP. 🤮 No serviettes for customers, and toilets are unclean. Seriously, the manager needs to make improvements especially because it is such a busy place for food and drink.

Staff were a bit sullen and rude. No sugar , had to ask for some for my tea. I had two small packets shoved at me from behind the counter. Had to go back and ask for white sugar as if been given demerara. Felt like i was being an inconvenience. Toilet facilities very poor for such a busy place.

Visiting York for the day, started raining and wanted a decent drink of coffee. Just what I got. Was busy but managed to find a seat. Selection of cakes also served and tea if you prefer.
