Decided to visit the dormouse tonight as we're staying in York, good decision, our waiter Warren was just a joy a credit to his employers. Pate good, turkey and mushroom pie, sea bass really lovely. Definitely a go to. Julie Hugh sneddon.

I was extremely disappointed by the quality of the food...my friend and I ordered the fish and chips.. The fish had a nice fleshy bit but at least two thirds dry , the mushy peas were watery. My other friend ordered a side salad as a side order.. for the price it was tiny a few leaves and a couple of cherry tomatoes. My pudding was the Honeycomb comb supposed to be White chocolate, it was an ORANGE mould that barely tasted of chocolate and hardly melted, sickly sweet centre, it sat on dry ?biscuit crumbs...why??? I couldn't eat it and askes for it to be removed off the total bill , which it was. My friend who ordered the honeycomb Ice cream and coconut sorbet , said the ice-cream was vanilla with a bit of sauce . I was really embarrassed as I have been to the Dormouse many times in the past and loved it, so I recommended it PLUS my friend paid for a birthday treat.... I'm sorry, but if you are charging prices, you need to deliver the goods, word gets round fast, especially somewhere like York. I was surprised to see the place so empty on a sunny Saturday afternoon and I now know why! Please look into your quality, I would hate to see the place go under. kind regards

Lovely Sunday roast with family. Karen was a fantastic server and very attentive. A great atmosphere for a family meal.

Nice food and wonderful service, a lovely evening out

A warm welcome and good service. Food was lovely. We went just after lunchtime so it wasn't busy and we got seated and food was delivered in good time. I had the arranchin balls to start. It was delicious. I had a main of lamb. The lamb was a little over, but was still tasty. Hubby had squid to start followed by steak, which was perfectly cooked. We didn't have room, unfortunately, for dessert. A really enjoyable lunch.

Amazing pub in York. We were staying at the Premier Inn just beside the pub and came in for an evening meal and drinks. The food was fantastic and very well presented and very reasonably priced, the fishcakes I had were probably the best fishcakes I've ever had. The service we received was also excellent and everyone was very friendly and chatty. We had Karen and Jamie serve us and they were both fantastic and very friendly and definitely went above and beyond. Compliments to the chefs too for the delicious food and presentation. Could not fault this pub at all, would highly recommend.

6 of us for tea time meal. The food was OK, the outstanding meal was the aubergine dish with the special burger the next. Warren the waiter was exceptional picking up on my allergy to cheese checking that the chips were not cooked in the same frier as cheese dishes. Plus his wit and conversation with us and the children was refreshing. An asset to any business. We will be back.

Pleasent little pub, very cosy and welcoming. Only.down.side is the service in the restraunt area. Had to wait 45 minutes for drinks to arrive after prompting the waiter twice. Meals were.finished before drinks finally arrived. Food was nice though. Have been back a couple of times since posting my original review and must say that the service has greatly improved. Staff are really friendly and helpful, food is delicious and all reasonably priced.

We have been here a few times, yesterday's food was the poorest that we have had. 4 of us ordered the Sirloin of Beef with a few extras here and there, and another member in the group ordered a burger etc. It was the the Sirloin of Beef that just did not itself justice at all. The Beef was dry to say the least and only 2 slices. We have had this before and enjoyed it, hence why we told our Son who had come with us how lovely it was. We was all very disappointed with it to say the least, my Son is a Chef and was not happy with what he had been served. The burger, was well.....hard to muck a burger up. But overall, value for money was just not there last night. Makes us think twice about going back.

Everything is amazing, I ordered a pizza, omg was it good, great lively atmosphere, nice place rlly friendly for dogs and humans, 5 stars.

We visited our daughter in York and stayed at the Premier Inn next to the pub.. we collected our daughter and gave the Dormouse a try. Food was good and the service from Mariusz was excellent. A decent amount of diners gave it a good atmosphere and the food was good value. We will visit again when back in York to try the Sunday roast

Called in for lunch after a morning at clifton moore and was very pleased we did. There was an excellent choice of beers lager and cider including cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales which were in excellent condition when we visited. We both opted for the steak sandwich, which was excellent. There is a nice pub garden, plenty of car parking and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I have been back when i have been in the area as it is a good pub for food and drink.

Went here 2 nights in a row while staying at Premier Inn. Fitted us in first night without booking even though they were busy. Excellent food and excellent service from. Mariusz. Would certainly recommend.

I came last night as part of a group of 5, and was impressed by the menu and the comfortable atmosphere available. I had the pie of the day, chicken and smoked pancetta, which was absolutely delicious! Will definitely come here again

We have visited here a few times and always enjoy it, Karen has served us the last few times we have been and always gives the best service and makes our experience that little bit better thank you!

Came upon this pub by chance as all of York was busy at lunchtime. So lucky ! We walked in at 1.30 pm and was seated straight away, ordered two Sunday lunchs which came within 10 minutes. Absolutely delighted , the food was all fresh cooked oinsite , the belly pork and crackilng was best I've had in a long while. Completely faultles service in all respects. Will definitely return.

Had an excellent meal, nothing was too much for the team. Food was outstanding, I had steak it was the best I've had. Manager Nicola seated she is definitely an asset to any team.

Lived nearby for quite some time and have visited a fair amount. What we initially thought was a great pub for the location, slowly became a place we went to less and less. In the past 3 years the food quality has gone down significantly. This evening a man working behind the bar, who seemed like the manager, was coughing excessively whilst making drinks. Coughing on his hands, in his shirt, and into the open air. If you're sick, stay home. This is absolutely not professional and so careless for others' health. Still an okay place to visit, but the setting doesn't match the overall quality of service, food, and hygiene standards.

Ate here two nights running as we were staying in the hotel next door. Excellent food and service. Did seem quite busy both nights so probably worth booking just to be safe.

Mariusz was a delight serving us. He engaged with our humour. It makes such a difference when you smiles are reciprocated! We love coming here. Will be back when we have ventured from Bristol!

From email response very quickly to my questions to booking via email was so easy The welcome and service was excellent the food was extremely yummy 😋 and don't go there if you're not hungry cos its filling, the desserts were just as,described on the menu

Not a great place , service is surly , range of drinks limited, expensive! Caters for the hotel next door really which is a shame but understandably.

Awesome food, everything fresh, nothing any trouble, service at bar and in restaurant just unbeatable, so good we went back next night! The food was lovely but what made the experience was our server Karen. She was so nice to us but the interaction she had with our son was lovely! She made him laugh, smile and distracted him enough he ate the whole meal! Definitely a credit to the company

We've eaten here twice now and the food has been really good. The service has been excellent, with special thanks to Karen who helped make our visit so pleasant. Third visit today as we are staying at the Premier Inn next door. The pub is really convenient. Beth was our server today. Excellent service and the food was good too. Our fourth and final visit on Tuesday evening. Karen was serving again and as usual gave great service. Shame there were a couple of issues with the food. The first issue was that the "Chicken, Bacon & Avocado Salad", ordered by two out of three in our group, had no Avocado. When this was pointed out to a member of staff, a plate was brought out with some Avocado slices, but the looked a bit grey. The second issue was with the desert, a "Banoffee Choux Bun". This was supposed to have a caramelised banana on top but turned up with a piece of banana which was quite obviously over-ripe at one end i.e. black through its entire thickness. We complained again and the cost of the dish was removed from our bill. After three good meals during our four day stay this was very disappointing and not the end to our York visit that we expected.

We came for Sunday Lunch and were pleasantly surprised, the food was scrumptious and very well presented, Service was ok but the food made it. see you again soon. David.

I'm not local but am familiar with Vintage Inns so knew what to expect, mostly. I'm putting my experience down as a one off but I can't be certain. On our mid-Saturday afternoon visit there was a wedding party in, not sure this place has a 'function room' to book as such and they were all just occupying a specific area but the whole place is open plan so our party of 4, which included our young daughter had to sit through an hour and a half of shouting, singing and swearing whilst trying to enjoy our meal. I get they probably put a bit of cash through the bar, given the state of some anyway but would the landlord tolerate that sort of behaviour from any regular patron? Pretty sure if it was just a small group they would have been asked to quiet down or leave with behaviour like that. We did ask to be seated elsewhere further away but we're told there was nowhere that would help. You could see some of the staff were frustrated by the party too but clearly profit was the key. As for the food, it wasn't as good as others we've visited recently and had some of the same dishes. Overall one to avoid for us I'm afraid next time we're around.

This is a very pleasant venue close to York. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. Never rushed to finish your meal. Child friendly. Would recommend

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. I came for Sunday lunch with my family and we all enjoyed it. The sea bass was excellent but the standout was the service by Mariusz!

We had the Sunday roast, which was very nice plenty of choice of vegetables the meat was cooked very well. Service was exceptional too. Would definitely recommend and come again

Nice location and ample free parking was appreciated. The decor and ambience was nice, the restaurant staff were very friendly. The food was mostly OK but we all thought it could have been better.

If I'm honest, I've always gone here with a very low bar set however I am always pleasantly suprised by the quality & the service I receive here. When my parents come to stay they usually like to stay at the Premier Inn next door, so this is very handy for them and its only about 15 mins from where I live, so an easy pub to get to. The food is decent, portion sizes are good & value for money (especially if you have a Vintage Inn voucher or coupon) During my last visit I had the hunters chicken and then the Chocolate Honey pot - both lovely and would reccommend. Service can be a bit slow at peak times but they do let you know which is great.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. My son enjoyed the Easter egg hunt. Lovely atmosphere in the venue. Food was excellent. Slightly disappointed that we couldn't use the Vintage Inns voucher we'd been given for signing up to the newsletter.

Always enjoy a visit to the Dormouse for a family meal out. Having worked there 20 years ago I enjoy the atmosphere, the menu is even more varied these days and food is good. Thanks to Karen for her ever exceptional service yesterday evening.

The food has always been great at the Dormouse but the Mother's Day menus this year was superb! Our server Karen was brilliant and so helpful. Already booked for Xmas 2025!

The food is not as good as it used to be. The veg was cold and my fish cakes were hard and over cooked. The overall ambience is good.

Visited for an early dinner as staying at the premier inn next door. Great little pub/restaurant, beautifully decorated. Plenty of choice on the menu and a huge drinks list to choice from. Food was cooked very well and presentation was 10/10. We were looked after by Mariusz who was very polite, smiley and prompt at taking our food & drink order. He also checked us mid way through to make sure everything was ok with our food. Would happily go back when we visit York again.

A lovely little classical style pub with a cosy atmosphere and a great menu. The staff are lovely, polite, and accommodating- the times that I visited with my mum were neither too busy, nor too empty- just perfect. My mum currently can’t walk, and has just been admitted to Mulberry Court care home, and this was her first time out since she got there. Despite the obvious difficulties that arise from being wheelchair bound, the staff were understanding and did their best to accommodate us, which is always such a relief. It was nice to get away from the carehome and share some nibbles and a few drinks together. Thank you!

Arrived Saturday early dinner time after a long day with two tired children. The food was great and our server Karen was extremely attentive and helpful. Will definitely return in the future, cannot recommend highly enough.
