Best roast! I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Yew Tree in Aylesford, near Hampshire, and I must say, it was one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had. This charming pub excels in every aspect, from the warm, welcoming atmosphere to the truly outstanding food. The highlight, of course, was the roast dinner. The variety of meats on offer—chicken, lamb, and beef—ensures there’s something for everyone. I chose the lamb, which was tender, perfectly cooked, and served in a generous portion, far exceeding my expectations. The inclusion of sprouts, often overlooked in many roasts, was a delightful touch and prepared to perfection. The free cauliflower cheese was the cherry on top, adding a creamy, cheesy element to the meal without an additional charge—a rare and appreciated bonus. What sets The Yew Tree apart is the excellent balance of quality and quantity. Each plate is hearty, satisfying, and made with evident care. The roast is paired with crispy roast potatoes, rich gravy, and fresh vegetables, completing the experience beautifully. Overall, The Yew Tree delivers a flawless roast dinner, earning a well-deserved 10 out of 10. If you’re in the area, this is a must-visit for any roast lover!

My wife and I have eaten here in the past (over 4 years ago) and we had always come away thinking that we could have cooked a better meal ourselves and needn't have bothered. It was always a worrying sign when one heard the 'ping' of a microwave oven sounding just as food was served at The Yew Tree of old. We tried The Yew Tree again this summer as we had heard it was under new ownership. The new owners have transformed the menu and quality of food completely! Jas and her team offer excellent, locally sourced food at proper pub prices and it is served piping hot on hot plates. It's a definite 10/10 from us and we will be back!

One of the best roast dinners I've ever had! We ordered the beef roast and the lamb roast and they were both excellent. The lamb was slightly crispy on the outside but soft and tender at the same time. The sides were all delicious too. I enjoyed every bite. This coupled with the excellent and friendly service makes it a pub I would highly recommend.

Lovely pub in a small hamlet. Given the number of people there that speaks volumes. Food excellent though other half felt her fish pie was too salty. Only observation - maybe the car parking area just away from the pub needs better signage. Didn't see that as drove up to the pub and I guess had the parking at the pub been unavailable (took last two spots) I would have been pondering where to park the car.

This pub is a gem - hard to find but absolutely worth it, both inside and the lovely rural garden. Freshly cooked food of giant proportions, good range of ales and wines. All of the staff are so friendly and professional. Go out of your way and visit this pub - but be prepared for it to be busy. Our first visit and we arrived at 12.30 to find the place packed (always a good sign) The staff could not have been more welcoming and happy to see us (one said we're just happy to be here) Yes it's an olde world style pub, but it's one that's full of character. Now to the main event - the food! My wife had the Venison Stroganoff which she really enjoyed and I had the classic beef burger, which was clearly home made and delicious. The dish of the day was beef pie. We saw quite a few of them passing by and they looked tremendous (home made our waitress told us) Hopefully they will be on the menu the next time we visit.

We stopped for lunch on our walk of the local area to find a typical country village pub and restaurant. Unassuming on the outside but once through the doors several comfortable rooms surrounding a generous bar. Rooms mostly set for dining. Two local cask ales on offer and both sampled were in excellent condition and well served by friendly staff. The menu had a reasonable selection but an odd preponderance of dishes served with boiled rice. The food was tasty. Busy for a weekday lunchtime. Uncomfortably low lighting in our dining area.

This is a pub that I have often passed and admired. This week we eventually went for food. It's a very traditional country pub. Good choice of beers. The menu had great choices, traditional and further afield combined. This really is a country pub where friendly dogs roam. If this isn't for you then you many not be happy. For us, it adds to the atmosphere. The welcome and service was excellent throughout. I had a grilled chicken and chorizo salad as a starter. Very tasty and generous portion. My wife had the pea risotto, our two friends had scampi and chips and pan fried salmon. All looked lovely. I chose a hot sweet and sour calamari dish that was also sold as a starter. It was quite hot and I like hot, it was also a very generous portion. Personally it makes a better starter than a main dish. The taste was very sweet and intense that makes it a perfect starter. A bit too much for a main dish. When serving is as a main dish it would have gone well with some rice just to take the edge off. The prices are very reasonable. There were two main specials, pan fried salmon and the other a fillet steak. I wish that when the specials are announced they would also let you know the price of the specials. Maybe it was on a board somewhere but I didn't see it. I'd have liked the fillet steak but as we were splitting the bill with friends I thought it might be a bit cheeky, particularly as I didn't know the price. I could have asked but not really the done thing.

I had booked this place for lunch as recommended by Hattingley Valley Winery where we were having an afternoon tour. It was a convenient mid point for both of us travelling from opposite directions and close to the winery. On arrival I was a little worried that the rustic look of the pub meant that the food would be the same, but the reviews weren’t wrong, the food is amazing! Staff very cheerful, friendly and helpful, a good variety food choices on menu. I had the shepherds pie which was huge but so delicious I nearly managed it all, tender meat and tasty gravy. My friend had the steak which was a special of the day and she said it was the best steak she has ever had, and she eats in a lot of nice places! Even though I live an hour away, I would be tempted to come back to sample the food in this lovely pub again.

This pub has long been a favourite fro its lovely location, friendly atmosphere and excellent food and it is still going strong and living up to its reputation. We came here for lunch on a Friday and had a really good lunch - the quality is slightly better and the pricing slightly lower than other local pubs (which themselves are still pretty good). We had shepherds pie and sausages, and these sorts of "pub classic" are really well done, while the menu does offer a good variety of dishes. The dessert menu is quite small but again was good value and good quality. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was very pleasant (with a nice line in background music which is interesting enough that you wonder what is coming next, while not being intrusive or too loud). All in all this is simply a great place for a meal and a drink and a real credit to the owners. We will definitely be back soon.

A stunning find⚡⚡ We both agree that this is one of the most charming English pubs we've ever visited (and Himself has visited a LOT🤭). We received a very warm welcome and we were squeezed in for Saturday lunch. The food was absolutely sensational and the chefs are clearly of a very high standard. The gravy was perfect, thick and glossy, the trio of sausages delightful atop tasty crispy bubble and squeak BUT for me the highlight of highlights was the shepherds pie🎉🎉 They used lamb chunks instead of mince, the mash on top was piped and then grilled. It was mouthwatering good and enough for two (or one with leftovers). The interior is beautiful, a nice combination of old English pub and the great British pop culture (ie. Beatles and Rolling Stones playing, lots of vinyls, James Bond art in the lavatories. We're already on a waiting list for tomorrow Sunday lunch haha!

We were staying locally for a couple of nights and wanted a nice pub meal. We didn’t realise how good our meal was going to be. I had the lasagna and my boyfriend had the steak burger. Both of them are insane. And then there is the sticky toffee pudding covered by my boyfriend‘s professional sticky, toffee opinion, it was the best he’d ever had! I stole the crusty corner. It was so good. We came back the following day for lunch, and I had a chicken burger with a buffalo sauce and we had the chilli loaded fries, he had a burger again and I’m writing this whilst we are constantly in having another dessert. Do not miss this pub. It’s a beautiful old style pub with amazing food and the staff are so brilliant as well. We had a magnificent lunch here. It was faultless. The premises have been converted from a shoe shop (of long standing) very well and the atmosphere is good. The staff were friendly and efficient and the set lunch was excellent and very well presented. We were enjoying ourselves so much we had an extra course from the a la carte menu ( gorganzola and tarte tatin). I would thoroughly recommend a visit. It deserves to succeed.

There are insufficient superlatives to describe the quality of food, service, and the overall atmosphere at this remarkable restaurant. Thanks to Evi, who runs the front of house, and Nathan, the world class chef for an excellent dining experience.

We visited today to celebrate a 40th birthday. The food was outstanding with a very varied menu. Genuine compliments to the chef, we will definitely be returning. The decor was lovely too!
